hmmm question... if I get a mushkin msata drive, how could I set it up for caching? im thinkin of getting 2 msata drives, one for my games, and one for caching... cuz... well I have 2 empty slots, and a 120gb that fills up easily from just temporary web pages and temporary downloads... (game files) so why not right?
also blue screen I can only guess is from cause of program, if it is a possible virus, might wanna scan, ever try Avast? that's my number 1 source until something better comes along, otherwise its probably something unstable -
Anyone know if the GTX 780M in our GT70s is G-Sync-compatible?

Hi.
I bought some months ago this laptop and I didn't use it to play since today.
I have a very bad performance in some games like Counter-Strike Global Offensive with 15-30 fps, no matters wich resolution I use, I always have that horrible performance.
When I bought it, I make few times Hitman Absolution's benchmark having arround 40 fps all maxed 1080p, and today I have arround 15 fps with same options.
I have updated GTX780M's drivers and problems persists. I have no idea of what could cause this issue, I have verified that the laptop is using GTX780 card and not integrated graphics.
Games like FIFA 14 o Sleeping Dogs runs well...
What could cause this? :/
Thanks to all! -
I would say drivers up to date, but ive been running with NVidia driver: 332.21 for compatibility reasons with halo 2 vista... blah blah, or it could be game optimization, I never got many games to play because im in college atm, but you could reinstall a driver, im sure the other guys here know more
-
I update Nvidia driver to the last one, problem persist...
I cant believe that a game like Counter-Strike GO runs at 25 fps with all options minimized on this computer. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Can you screenshot the gpu load graph in the program you used to confirm the DGPU was in use?
-
OMG man, GPU usage its at 5-15% when playing, and getting over 10-30 fps... (all settings min.)
EDIT: Im definitely retarded. Few days ago I set power plan to economize... Was that.
Now, 130 fps on CS GO all maxed.
Some fps more on Hitman Absolution, but I still have bad performance, like 20-30 fps all maxed. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Same question on that then, what does the loading profile look like? CPU too would help.
-
I have stablished power plan to max. performance and connected the laptop to power and now Hitman is arround 50 fps all maxed and CS GO on 150 fps all maxed.
Thanks to all -
i think i have found the issue, i do belive the drive for the video card was the issue, so i downgraded to a previous version,
-
reason why I haven't updated my driver since december

Hey,
I was wondering if there is anyway you can optimize the performance of the Hard Disk Drive that is installed inside this laptop? The SSDs are plenty fast, but space is limited and I prefer to install large files such as games and music libraries on the HDD, except once in a while, when I'm in the middle of playing a game stored on the HDD or listening to music stored on the HDD, the computer will freeze for a second or two, the hard disk indicator comes on, and then after continues to function normally. Not really a big issue, but it can be kind of jarring when you are in the middle of a game or listening to a song and that happens. I dont have this issue when I'm playing a game or song off the SSD. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The HDD spins down to save power, you could edit the advanced power settings if you don't want this to happen. If you google HDD advanced power settings you should find a guide.
-
Okay, I didnt think the HDD would power down right in the middle of playing a game or song (unless perhaps it was already fully loaded into RAM perhaps), I will try this and see if it works.
Thanks! -
Hay all,
So here is my story:
I bought my GT70-ONE about 2 yrs ago and up until few weeks ago every thing went just about fine.
However, a few weeks ago ,after booting my laptop i saw the "red x" symbol "consider replacing your battery" poping on my taskbar which was fine (i guess) considering the period of time i had it and charged it so i guessed that around the time in which batteries starts to fail.
BUT the thing is even though the battery needed to be replaced, i still could plug my power adapter and keep working.
About two weeks ago, after i connected my power adapter to the laptop, it did not show any symbol of "connected to power" but the bleenking red x of "consider replacing your battery" continued to show.
funniest thing is that for a while, on random occasions the power adapter did manage to charge the battery.
Now i come to the big finale : a week ago after connecting the power adapter to the socket in the wall, it started to burn (smoke and everything). i immediately disconnected the cable understanding there goes my power adapter.
i thought, maybe it was all along the problem and bought a brand new power adapter.
today i got it and guess what??
after connecting it to the laptop nothing happens. no "charging your bat.." no led light indicating charging, no nothing.
ohh yes, i burned it too.
So, now that you know my story, any ideas on what the hell is wrong?
is it battery?
is it faulty power adapter?
faulty cable?
faulty power circuit?
all of the above?
non of the above?
other?
big help needed and big thanks in advance to all replaysickibar1234 likes this. -
my first thought, ebay... there are a few sellers that sell replacement batteries... if I see smoke and my battery is the cause, I change it. although it could be the adapter causing the smoke... idk, how is the battery life off charger?

How far back does the GT70 screen tilt? How is the readability and brightness if you want to use this laptop outside on a sunny day? Might work well in the shade?
I was looking at the Precision M6800 but I really want this series of MSI if it can do well outside.
How bassy is the subwoofer?
Can the built in microphone pick up lectures in classrooms and does it have echo cancellation?
I am awaiting Svet's response on the MSI forums to see if he/she has any ideas about enabled 240 watts into the DC jack because then I could get the 780m/880m with confidence that I could overclock an Extreme processor without hitting a power limit. Otherwise I'd get the 770m/870m model. Of course all this will be years from when they are cheap used, if they keep on making genuine battery packs for this chassis.
It's true that you can mess with all the Extreme processor overclocking parameters from within windows, no limitations there via Intel XTU? So the only limitation would be power. I know the 12V fan is awesome.
Last question, if you disable the gesture features for the touchpad, is the touchpad easy and smooth to use?
Thanks and Urion12 best of luck, I saw your post on Facebook too. -

The screen tilts 180 degrees from the closed position.
The GT60 would do better outside with the matte PLS panel.
The sound is the best I have heard of any notebook, true deep vibrate the table bass not so much but you can listen and not feel annoyed.
You can but an unlocked bios is better than XTU really. -
The matte PLS I don't think is the stock screen? I thought stock was matte with TN technology. PLS is a Samsung technology ( Panel Technologies - TN Film, MVA, PVA, IPS, PLS).
Is that an option through XoticPC or something?
Thx. Also anyone with info on microphone, 240w ac adapter news, touchpad usage?
Awesome it can tilt 180 degrees -
so... am I the only one with mushkin msata ssd? thought I would see if I could make a partition, and bam! cant shrink drive, solutions?
ok now it says 72MB, which is weird since it has 20gb free in the primary partition -
Hello. Largely due to this forum, I recently took the plunge and purchased the GT70 DominatorPro-890 (17.3 display, i7-4800MQ, GTX 880M, 16GB DDR3 1600MHz, 500GB Samsung 840 Evo SSD) with IC Diamond re-paste. I plan on keeping it for a long time (I got 6 years out of my last laptop). Due to some earlier threads, I was concerned about not getting a lemon that overheats and throttles. So, I asked the seller to share their thermal performance test. Unfortunately, Im not knowledgeable enough to interpret them. Id be grateful if the community could take a look and let me know what they think. One image is test results with fan off, the other is test results with the fan on. I did see the GPU temperature max out at 94 degrees for both tests, and Im wondering if I should be concerned about that -- enough to ask for a new machine that tests better. Given how long I want to be able to use this laptop, I want to make sure its 100% to begin with.
Thank you very much.

94C on the GPU is pretty high for a GT model. We've seen that in the thinner GS models but the GT have been about 10C lower underload.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
CPU is fine so yes looks like the gpu needs a re paste.
-
that is extremely high... but if that is what 880m would give... I think its a relief that I got a 780m just before the release of the 800ms, it seems much safer
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
That's not normal for the 880M, so you can't really say that.
-
Thanks for the responses and identifying that the GPU temp is in fact an issue I'll have to solve for. This forum is fantastic!
-
hey guys, question, if I want to use matrix display through 3 hdmi slots, or 3 vga slots, what do I use? i only see one mini-usb port, which means i can use only a second hdmi/vga
-
Installed Steelseries Engine and Sound Blaster Cinema 2 today to check if I can modify some files to make them work with my 2OD but sadly both failed.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
So one HDMI, one VGA and one display port. -
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The steelseries engine will need specific hardware support.

Hey all apologies if it was addressed earlier in the thread but I'm in the market for a new system and I'm curious what sort of temperatures are you seeing from the CPU/GPU under load on the Dominator GT70? The single heatpipe setup has me a little hesitant.
-
-
the adapter was faulty and replaced with same one from the same manufacturer (DELTA, though the new adapter has lower efficiency - iv vs v).
the cable was fried, one of the inner cables. that was the main reason for this whole issue. I replaced it.
after i got the new cable and new adapter, i checked the output with multimeter. after that, when i was verified there are no short circuit in the power connector of the laptop i hooked it up and it works just fine!
thank you all for advising me. -
Hi Friends!
Having problem with my GT70 and really looking for help.
Here is the story.
I bought GT70-2OD from HIDEvolution 4.5 months ago (well, not GT70-2OD exactly, but full equivalent, MS-1763 with GTX780M)
Anyway, it worked like a charm and 3 days ago, suddently during my working day (I did some programming in Visual Studio, not gaming, etc) FAN started to run at MAX speed (really noise).
So I decided to restart it, and then after OS started all graphic settings was resetted and then I realixed that I'm on integrated graphics and NVIDIA card started to be recognized by Windows as NVIDIA Tesla K10.
And FAN keeps running at max speed.
Anyway long story short:
- I came to conclusion that my GTX780M died. Even in DOS it is recognized as Tesla K10 by nvflash (btw, nvflash refusing to save VBIOS backup and refusing to flash new VBIOS saying that EEPROM is unknown). And ofcourse it doesnt work in Windows, Windows reporting it as problem device in Device Manager, saying that it do not have sufficient resources or something like this.
- FAN keeps running at max speed and it is VERY loud. My guess is that GTX fails to report its temperature and then EC deciding to run FAN at max speed.
This happens even if I disconnect GTX and turn on laptop with integrated graphics only. First 1 or 2 minutes after laptop is powered on FAN works normally; but then it switching to MAX speed and never stops, it didn't stop after restart; only after shutting down it works normally for 1-2 minutes and then MAX speed again. This happens even if I keep sitting in BIOS screen (e.g. without loading OS), so this must be really low-level problem.
I tried all options I found to control FAN speed with no lock (tried RWevertyhing with fan control scripts found here) - no luck - keeps running at 100%
So, why I'm sharing this with you guys, I have few questions, and would be great to get some good advices:
1) Do you agree that the entire problem caused by failed GTX780M and not something more generic (maybe motherboard, etc)
2) Can someone suggest me some ways to slowdown the FAN (as I said above I already tried Dave Pearson's GT70 2OD FAN CONTROL v1.6.2 scripts with no luck)
The thing is I tried my luck and already ordered GTX880M as replacement for my died 780M (I hope that my problem is died video card); and now I need to live and work with that laptop for about 2-3 weeks until I receive my new GTX880M. And loud fan is really giving me hard time, because it really, I mean really loud.
Thanks! - I came to conclusion that my GTX780M died. Just found a weird problem that's taken me a while to diagnose:
When I go into Steam on my laptop, I kept getting a "No Connection" error. Yet I could still download games (albeit slower than usual) and browse the Steam Community as normal. I finally pegged the issue down to the Qualcomm Atheros Killer Service causing the issue. I disabled it and everything ran perfectly. Re-enabling it causes the issue again.
My question is, is there a newer version I of the software that I can get and what does the service actually do? I have a feeling it's a helpful thing to have for my networking. Any thoughts? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Check the qualcom website for drivers.
-
it sould be safe to remove the fan temporarily unless you need to operate cpu heavy tasks. even so you can set the speed of cpu to minimum
-
Guys I have this new laptop, I bought it without any operating system (possible in Belgium and France apparently), so it's cheaper.
I'v seen that there are specific win7 or win8 bioses, from what I did understand from the msi website you need to check which version of the os was installed before updating the bios. But here it is I have no os installed, what should I do? -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
There are many utilities out there such as AIDA64 that can read the product key. -
Is this an microsoft product key you are talking about? And witht that I should know which Bios update to do prior to installing windows 8 ?
