If you find out the current version that you have, then you can update the BIOS based on the same version sequence.

So now I have version E1763IMS.50K.
Is it correct that the version I should upgrade to before I install windows 8 is E1763IMS.50W ?

hey guys, I installed a dual boot of windows 8 onto my win 7 gt70 laptop, what do I need to install for everything including the Fn functions and touch dashboard features to work?

another thing, is there a way to clone registry? or whatever it is I need to use to save time from reinstalling a lot of programs?

I have a problem with the Fan Control Tool v1.6.2
After install it, fan speed seems lower than before, and cannot change back even after uninstall the tool.
For example, fan speed used to be 30% when CPU temp is 37~57 celsius, but now is 20%.
    Any advice?

another question, is hybrid power and power boost available for windows 8.1? because I don't see it available at the software for the laptop im using at the msi site, and I don't want to go from 8 to 8.1 without that being available

does the application start? just being careful, and since I dual booted, is there anything I need to install besides the support drivers on this laptop? is there anyway to save time by copyng registries? its tiring to reinstall a lot of programs, like my 90s and 00s games, or some of my basic programs?

lot of questions I know but I gotta be absolutely sure

The application you will need is the ones mentioned pretty much under utility section, nothing else you will need to install.
You can't save time since registry isn't the same from one type of OS to another. Some legacy games do not rely on registry so you can probably simply copy them and execute without encountering issues.

Can anyone explain how to use super-charger?

I know that it is running but does not appear to be working. I've dug around other forums for help on this but haven't found a good answer. I'm trying to charge my Note II.

I don't have a tray icon and when I click on the app I get a message saying it's already running. I confirmed this in task manager.

    Thanks!

How are you testing if it is working or not? Which port are you using?

I've tried using one of the three USB3.0 ports. It charges much too slowly for it to be putting out higher than normal amperage. The app would be much more useful if it had an actual user interface. But with no splash screen or icon to click on in the notification area how are you supposed to know if it working or even which port is enabled with the functionality? Why did MSI even include this app?

The max current you are going to get from super-charger is 1A. What device are trying to charge? By default it activates when apple products are connected. You can however add additional devices to the supported list just by finding their DeviceID under device manager. Copy it and manually write it down in the SuperChargerINI.ini found on the program's install folder. It works on my Galaxy Note 3 and my father's Note 2 so it can work for other devices too. I'm on my cellphone right now. Once I get on my pc I'll explain better. :)

Be aware that those devices normally get 2 amps so charging speed would be between a normal port and a dedicated charger.

Yeah I know. Also charging rate gets slowed down further because the data pins of the usb port are connected and the data connection recognised as such by the android os. At least it goes faster than 500mah :p

Hi there, guys, I'm having an issue I was hoping this active thread could help me with. I'm trying to upgrade my computer to Windows 8.1, but MSI has this very scary upgrade page. ( Windows 8.1 Upgrade Support) In it, they say that I should uninstall both Nvidia and Intel VGA driver. They use the word driver, as if its singular, but I have 4 Nvidia programs and 5 Intel programs (none of which call themselves a VGA driver) on my installed program lists. I'm just wondering if I need to uninstall all the programs (because I assume that would take care of the associated drivers) or if there are only specific parts of the software that I need to uninstall. I'm just trying to avoid bricking my computer and minimizing the amount of silly updating I have to do once it's (hopefully) on 8.1.

You didn't delete anything and just upgraded to win 8.1? I don't know if I'm that brave. There are hundreds of stories of kids with bricked or BSOD'ing laptops on the MSI forums and there is no technical/customer support if I do brick it. :(

Just download it from the Windows Store, and let it update. That's how it's supposed to be done, and I've done it many times.

This ain't gonna brick a laptop. That's up to BIOS/EC updates.

It is the portable version. Here's fan tool v1.6.3 with afterburner updated to v3.01 (should not expire).

    installation instructions:

    1. uninstall any old versions of the fan tool.
    2. extract fan tool 1.6.3 and run the installer.

Hi all, I have this realy frustrating problem.
I have GT70 2OD for almost a year now and the touch sensor is not responding any more since yesterday.
I searched the net for more than 3 hours with multiple different solutions suggested.
I tried re-install SCM, do firmware update, reboot, and still nothing worked.

1-Is there any way to turn on the booster cooler (turbofan) other than the touch sensor?
2-Do you suggest I open the hing cover and try mess around with cables?

The cable connects the power button too IIRC so check the seating but if the power button is working then there may be issues with the board itself.

Hey guys, I just bought a MSI GT Series GT70 DominatorPro-890. I had Asus G750 JS and then JZ model before this, but bad thermal throttling led me to msi.

So, is the the forum for this notebook? The asus had an actual asus forum, for specific laptops, in which you could make threads and ask questions and all that. But is this the forum for the msi, or is there another website for that?

Also, my asus came with backtracker, which put windows and recovery all onto a usb for me, in which I could do fresh installs of windows with all drivers onto any harddrive in my laptop through the usb. Does the msi have a program like this?

Also, I've seen a few posts on here about downloading a fan control software thing, is that something that should be done?

I'm new to msi, old to laptops and pc's. I knew my asus like back of hand, and built several gaming and workstation pc's in the last year so I am fully knowledgable on both components and processes.

I'm going to be using this laptop for some gaming, but maily sony vegas 12, cyberlink powerdirector 12, maya, solidworks, autocad, and adobe cs suite.

Are there any first things to be done when getting my laptop? Other than the normal clean up bloatware type stuff?

I plan to change out hhd for 2x 1tb Samsung evo ssd's, and add in my 4x 8gb ddr3l 1866 ram. I have those from previous asus. Should I also change out the wireless card? Does it have miracast/widi?

    Anything to help out please.

Hi. have a problem with my new Msi GT70-2OD.
With default thermal paste arrive to 98ºC to cpu in test furmark+prime95, and 95-96ºC playing to Battlefield 4, and have the same temps with or without CoolerBoost.
    Gpu always work to 90-92ºC

I decide change thermal paste cpu & gpu.
After change thermal paste the temps only change 3-4ºC down.

Someone show a screenshot with max temps after test 15min to Furmark+Prime95 with and without Cooler Boost ??
    Thanks

All I remember is that I had less of a problem cooling down my 680m than my 780m hahaha :D

It think the main surprise in temps came from haswell rather than 780m. Haswell being hotter than ivy bridge took a lot by surprise. Luckily a repaste and a few adjustments go a long way.

All has been fine, but I updated my drivers to the latest beta for Grid autosport and whilst playing the game crashed, on reboot I found that my 780m shows as a standard microsoft adapter.....

I tried reinstalling clean drivers after using DDU, didn't work, I tried the MSI recovery (factory reset) that didn't work, I then tried a clean install of both win8 and win7 and those didn't work either!

I read about modded inf filss, I can get one of those to install, but I get the yellow mark beside it and a code 43 message then and geforce experience hangs

When trying drivers I have tried both ones from Nvidia website and the MSI ones for my laptop, nothing works I am beginning to wonder if this card has fried?

I can't make a modded inf file myself as I don't understand the hex bit but wanna try before looking at the options in regards to replacing the graphics card :(
