You should be able to change in the BIOS which HDD/SSD is the first boot drive of the HDD options. Change it so the SSD is on top.

What cloning software did you use? Make sure it was designed for SSD use.

please help.. do you have pictures.. I took out my 1tb and my 128gb boots just fine.. but i want my 1tb to be storage and 128gb for windows and programmes.. i cloned my ssd with samsung data migration. easy and very straight forward ..

Turn the computer off, (may want to reinstall HDD now) press the power button to turn on, continually press delete and you should then get into the BIOS. Arrow over to the Boot tab. Down on the bottom where its "UEFI Hard Disk Drive BBS Priorities" you should then be able to move the SSD to the top.

That is correct, Windows machines didnt get the 680MX, just select Apple computers.

am I the only one who has battery charging issues? my battery was at 8% and didn't recharge... until I thought it could be heat issues and stuffed it in the fridge for 60 seconds (charged afterwards)

It's best to let the battery cool a little before charging if you have pushed it straight before.

Hello all. After lurking this forum for a long time, I just ordered my first MSI machine. Its the MSI GT70 DominatorPro-890 (17, i7-4800MQ, GTX 880M, 500GB Samsung 840 Evo SSD, 16GB DDR3 1600MHz, Windows 8.1 clean install). Im new to the boutique laptop world and not very tech savvy, so please excuse the basic question. Id appreciate it if you could weigh in on: (1) what Ill need to do when I first get my machine and (2) what kind of manual maintenance I should be doing. Kind of a day 1 users guide.
For (1), the only thing I can think of is to add an anti-malware package (I was thinking about Bitdefender Internet Security) and some backup synch software/hardware. Am I missing something?
For (2), I know Windows updates itself, but are there other things I need to be updating manually myself? For example, I see a lot of chat about updating graphics card drivers do they not update themselves? If not, how often should I be looking for new versions to install? I also understand I may need to get somebody to clean the fans and re-apply the thermal paste very 2 years or so. Im hoping to get 6+ years out of the machine.
Thank you for any direction you can provide. -

1) Install the latest gpu drivers from nvidia.com, create a backup did using the software provided.
2) if you have issues or are buying a new release game. -
As for graphics card drivers, as Meaker said, install the latest nvidia drivers from their webpage for your GPU. If you install the GeForce Experience, the additional software will then let you know when there are new updates for your drivers.
What I usually do when I first buy a laptop, is uninstall any software I dont need or probably won't need/use. I research online what does each software do and then just erase or delete them. In the case of Windows 8, I rarely use the so called "apps" and focus mostly in the desktop environment. This means I end up disabling or uninstalling most "Apps" in favor of regular programs. -
im still running on NVidia driver 332.21 because that's the last one that supports the halo 2 vista graphics

Hi guys, I have a couple of questions, does the new SteelSeries Engine from GT70 Dominator Laptops work with GT70 Dragon Edition 2 and also the light for my button which disables the mouse pad does not light up, even though the mouse pad stops working, but if I go to the tray icon and disable mouse pad from there, the light comes on and then if I click the button on the keyboard to enable the mouse pad, the mouse pad is enabled but the light is still on. I am using the latest Synaptics Drivers v17.0.9.1 from MSI's website.

got an issue with the display, every now and then, my screen kinda of splits it's displays into 3 stripe-like sections, its really annoying can its like a flickering-ish thing, any solutions? it vanishes sometimes when I change the resolution then change it back, but it comes back eventually

Hi, I have a GT70 Dragon Edition 2 Extreme and Im thinking in repaste CPU and GPU.
What paste is the most recommendable? (IC maybe?) Should I wait to finish the warranty or can I do it without problems?
I saw a vídeo on YT about the GT60 disassembly - repaste and looks easy... -
Double post. Sorry.
-
If you don't have an external monitor to test, update the drivers anyway. Be sure to update the Intel one first, as it is embedded on the motherboard chipset. -
OK the issue with the mouse pad is solved by downloading the latest synaptics drivers v18 from MSI website, which came online yesterday. Now the new SteelSeries Engine, will it work on the Dragon Edition 2?
-
well I have yet to see flickering, but ill keep you posted on it, so... I have a good sound card in this and I have yet to test it on at least a 5.1 speaker system... question is I have no clue what is a very good 5.1 speaker system these days since everything I see has many bad reviews, and recommendations?
-
I have a logitech system, pretty decent it is. Logitech Z506.
-
seems pretty good, a friend of mine recommended this to me but im not so sure since theres a lot of mixed reviews http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BJE3WEW/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_0xGjtb19ZGY2C
anyone else? -
Hey guys.
I'm preparing to get rid of Super Raid. My Haswell 2OD has an MS-16F42.
I'm wondering if I can swap with another guy who owns an Ivy Bridge one or a guy who owns AMD-based GX60? -
Are they sharing the same adapter port?
I'm giving out my 2 SSDs along with the card. So I consider it's gonna be a lot of people who would like to swap with me. -

But you can purchase it through any of the resellers available to you. -
Any update on the backwards compatibility of the new SteelSeries Engine?

The software will say "device is not detected" and became unusable. -
gotta say, a lot of site got rid of the 700s in a hurry

so... just realized this... with every other sound card ive ever used, realtek had a couple options: one was the pitch(karaoke) levels for changing the tone of sound, and the other was an equalizer, does this have it? cuz I don't see it anywhere

At the risk of being fussed at (off-topic), for fellow FPS snipers, I think this one will be stellar on the GT70-2OD. NVidia optimized, this game promises expansive environments, outstanding graphics, and much more realistic play. I enjoyed the last release of this franchise, but this should take the sniper role, to a whole new level. Check out the new developers video:
I've pre-ordered my Steam download, and we'll see ya on the battlefield! Enjoy!

do you guys want to hear a funny story? I was limiting my cpu to 90% and I didn't even know it, through the power options when plugged in. now its 100 percent and my gamecube emulator is now running so smooth

Hey, does updating firmware wipe all data?
asking because it says so here:
-
It says "Tablet" isn't that weird
-
I didnt know msi had tablets either -

Not deliberately, but in rare cases the machine can be bricked (this is a natural risk from all firmware flashing) so taking a backup is good standard practise.

Thanks Dave!
Once again, the link for your fan tools has been updated in the lead post, and Ken was kind enough to host the file on his servers.

Any tips or suggestions for someone running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 on this beauty? i have encountered a few blue screens, but they seem to have stopped since i re-installed 7, im running the 039US model Dragon Edition
-
hmmm I use win 7 pro but I only got blue screens from 1 external hard drive, and a few programs that were unstable(android emulator and tethering program) as well as experimenting with the most stable overclocking settings for my 780m
have you noticed any programs that you run lately acting odd? -
Windows 8.1 Pro runs perfect for me, haven't tried windows 7.
