The ec is not part of the vbios. It edits a different file which you flash separately.

Is the fan noise and the fact that there is only one fan a problem on these? I really want to buy one but that's the only thing putting me off.

thanks kev that solves one problem, now about the hybrid/dragoon gaming center programs.... more importantly the hybrid setting... how can I get that to work with win 7 pro? or is it w8 only

I never really cared for the fan noise, I could go without it, it isn't so bad, but more importantly, the speakers can be louder than the fan noise. so you wont have to worry about that pesky fan noise getting in front of that beautiful hi-def sound

EDIT: I was actually mentioning turbo fan noise, but regular fan mode is pretty quiet

Isn't the Hybrid mode built in, on a level which means it works automatically, regardless of OS?

As far as the other thing, I don't have the Dragon Edition, so I have no idea what that even is.

Thanks for that. I prefer this to the AW 17 and it's £200 cheaper. As I said I'd heard a lot of bad things about the fact their was only one fan.

it's a very powerful fan, takes a few seconds to speed up if you go turbo, but I always go turbo when running a game since the regular mode speeds up only at certain temperatures, plus turbo beats the heat early and keeps cool

    I don't have dragon edition, I have a standard gt70 2od

how will I know when its on?

and how can I get those two programs "Hybrid Mode" and "Dragoon Gaming Center" to start up on my win 7 machine?

EDIT: another problem, I can't keep the battery settings as I saved them to be, like the brightness of the balanced setting when plugged in. it changes to what it is when it is unplugged if I turn it on unplugged. and sometime the settings reset when I use the ECO settings. any fix? and don't say "don't use ECO" because I use the office setting for when im in class, and game for when gaming and I definitely notice a difference in battery life and performance

The program you can download from msi will tell you if it is on.

Have you edited the settings in the MSI software for power?

The function will always work when required, the hybrid boost software will let you know when it's activated.
There are different profiles when you use the ECO mode, so they will default the settings back.
You can try sticking to the adjustment of power plans under Power Options from Windows instead to what you wanted since there are performance mode and battery saving mode as well.

There is a software called Hybrid power that only displays when the function is ON or OFF in bright, big, letters. As for your brightness, configure both the plugged in and unplugged brightness settings, independently, on your power control panel.

I have set each one independently, but it always mimics unplugged, and that will be useless since hybrid power application and dragoon gaming center wont start for me on win 7. unless there is a fix. for that

Nice tip Kevin! I have added this to the lead post in the 'How To' section. Please keep us informed of any other great tips.

    :)

I don't know why Dave has deleted his recent post, but for whatever reason, I've updated the link to his fan control tool in the thread's lead post. Since hosting links to this program seem somewhat unreliable or dated, Ken has placed Dave's tool on his servers for posterity. Thanks Ken!

Also, since Dave will not longer be supporting his tool, as suggested, Svet's Fermi/Kepler VBIOS/EC Tuner - [ver: 2.71o] will do the job, and much more.

    :)

Well I'm back with the old problem.
My write speed of the Super Raid 0 2x64G decreased awefully again after 1 month of usage.
So I imediately suspect that Trim is not functioning correctly. So I tried Trimcheck v0.5 and that confirmed my worry. Trim is not functioning at all.
Need help. GT70-2OD with newest BIOS and IRST driver.

    Hi Guys,

I'm still enjoying my awesome GT70 2OD Dragon 2, and it's still eye-catching as ever, but I've been asked...... 'Will you be upgrading to the new 880M Dominator Pro'? Short answer: Nope, not this go-round, but SOON, MSI will amaze me enough to advance to the next level. (Translation: Enough new tech, to get me to break open my wallet again) ;)

Anyhow, if some of you are like me, I appreciate MSI partnership with Steelseries, namely the colorful and programmable backlit keyboard. Along the way, MSI has included other nice Steelseries perks, like their gaming mice and headsets..... which brings me to my current thought. Again, if you are like me, you want to be untethered from your desktop or notebook...... you want to be FREE from wired constraints, but do any of the wireless products make the grade in gaming? Perhaps to an extent, but there always seems to be concerns with compatibility, pixels, lag, sound quality, or battery life. Well, it just so happens that it's time for me to try something new, and new for 2014, Steelseries may have exactly what I am looking for. Hopefully these will make great companions for the GT70 Dragon 2, and my next MSI 'weapon-of-mass-destruction'. I'll be trying these soon,,,,, if you haven't seen these, check em' out:

Steelseries SENSEI Wireless Laser Mouse | Ditch The Wires, Keep The Performance | at Amazon

Steelseries H Wireless Gaming Headset | Professional Audio Without Compromise | at Amazon

If the performance is there, perhaps MSI will consider these in their next great flagship model..... and MSI, if you are going to continue the GT780/783/70 chassis, and the Dragon theme, PLEASE consider continuing the colorful Dragon design on top future flagship models. One can only dream..... some of us like to stand tall and apart, right? LOL! :D

    Enjoy

    :)

Hello, I've decided to release a small update to the fan tool. Version 1.6.1.

    Changes:

Status bar added to main screen with CPU temperature and GPU temperature.

    Installation instructions:

Uninstall previous version of the fan tool then run the new installer.

LOL! Yes, I too was curious about what he had in mind. After all, GT70 2OD is spoken here, and surely he isn't considering swapping to an 880M..... a pricey option, and hardly seems worthwhile.

oh im crazy enough to goto 880m, ill call powernotebooks (where i got my laptop) when the time comes and see what i can do

but of course ill need a stronger cpu to support it, besides i don't think it will be a difference going from a 780m to a 870m, so 880m might be the only one with improvement... unless 780m sli would ever be supported by a gt70 (you would think it would be an exclusive to a 17 inch laptop along with more cooling to support it)

Ok then, I assume you are a GT70 2OD owner, and I'll call you crazy, BUT........

In my opinion, the current 780M is about as good as it gets for the Kepler class. The soon to be released GTX-880M (also Kepler), though moderately better performance on paper, pushes the limits of the design. Expect higher temps, and increased throttling, even with stock settings. What good are increased benchmark numbers, if temps and throttling become more problematic in real-world gaming? I've seen the benchmarks and temps at stock settings, and I predict, little to no headroom for OC'ing. Furthermore, I do not believe the cost vs. projected performance, will wisely justify such an upgrade. And then, there is this for your reading pleasure:

    Tech|Inferno [Review] Nvidia GTX 880m

Page #4: Stock Performance (Still throttles like all previous Kepler cards!)
Page #5: Let's fix what's broken... (Still requires VBIOS modding!)
Page #6: Overclocking (Overclocking still somewhat useless, and only increases throttling!)
Page #7: Conclusions (Crippled performance, even at stock settings, and throttles worse than the GTX 780M)

Personally, I am waiting for the next-gen Maxwell equivalent, which will have substantially better performance and efficiency. In short, I'd say be happy with your current GTX-780M, forget the GTX-880M, and wait for MSI's next (Maxwell) flagship. Save your pennies, and I promise you'll be glad you did. I anticipate that THIS will be a worthwhile upgrade..... not too far off..... SOON..... and tech so grand (and tempting), that even the most frugal of GT70 2OD owners, will be powerless to resist.

    :)

the Maxwell wont be around for a while, that's for sure. but of course NVidia needs to make a little extra money somehow, so they will release higher clocked keplers until they can make Maxwell work on mobile power

The upcoming upgrade (8xxM) is supposedly Maxwell, but due to production supply and demand on the new fabrication process, it looks like it will be pumped out under the current 28 nm manufacturing process. A subsequent upgrade to the new 8xxM cards should come later in the year.

Unless I am missing something, I have to disagree. Yes, Maxwell will be produced in two versions, a 28nm GPU process (first-release), followed by 20nm GPU process. The upcoming MSI 880M (Dominator Pro) has precisely the same GPU-Z data as depicted in the Tech|Inferno article I referenced above, with exception to the Subvendor info.... ergo it's Kepler (GK104 chip). With the exception to GDDR, it is essentially the same silicon as the GTX-780M (also GK104 chip). It's not the manufacturing GPU process that determines Kepler or Maxwell, but rather the architecture or GPU Codename.

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M Specifications:

Just made some minor updates. The GTX 780M is a more significant upgrade over the GTX 680M than the GTX 880M is over the GTX 770M.

Thanks for the minor updates, but did you notice the chart is comparing equivalently spec'd Keplers......using the GTX-680MX? The only thing that really changes, are core-clocks, and GDDR.

how do I enable hardware acceleration on this?

I have a couple virtual box programs that need it, and a few settings on halo pc that have a hardware acceleration setting (yes I still play that game, ever since 2006)

There does seem to be no setting but it will be enabled.

Check with CPUID (link below) and see if VT is enabled
