Been a while since I was here. I need some help if anyone knows.. I have GT70-2OD (Barebone). Using UEFI mode, I used to be able to select multiple hdd drives to boot off of. By pressing F11, the bios detected my hdd boot on main drive (Windows Boot Manager), or the Acronis boot Image on secondary drive (EFI mode). I've recently updated the bios and firmware to the latest version on MSI site. And since I did that, I've now lost the ability to boot from the second drive. It now only recognize my main drive (Windows Boot Manager) when I press and hold F11 at boot.
I've tried several different bios settings, but I can't seem to find anything within the bios that would allow me to do this. Anyone using it a similar fashion as I do? (Dual boot from separate physical drives)??
Did MSI take this feature away? In legacy mode, I do see all of the drives on my laptop, but under UEFI mode, it only shows 1 boot option: "Windows Boot Manager" If anyone knows how to get around under under UEFI mode, please help. This feature is very important to me... I'd greatly appreciate it!
Thanks.
HDD Config:
Drive 1(main SSD): Windows 8.1
Drive 2(second slot): Fat32 EFI boot (Acronis 2014 Boot)
When I press F11 at boot (under UEFI mode), it no longer shows me the second drive option like it used to (I forget the bios version I was using prior to the upgrade). -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Are your CSM settings the same? (Is this option visable?)
-
Yes. CSM option is visible. Also in the UEFI mode, under HDD boot priority, I can only see 1 boot option as well. It used to work and showed UEFI boot option on the second HDD (Acronis Recovery Image).
Just as a clarification: Acronis 2014 allows you to create a UEFI boot / recovery image either onto a CD-ROM or USB stick. I created the USB recovery. I then cloned the USB image, and layered it onto the second HDD. Then used Paragon partition tool to shrink that HDD down to 500MB range..
So the HDD and Partition tables looked liked this:
Drive 1: Parition 1: Windows 8.1 (Windows Boot Manager) (UEFI / GPT / NTFS)
Partition 2: (D) Drive (for generic data and app installation (UEFI / GPT / NTFS)
Drive 2: Partition 1: FAT32 (500mb) Acronis Recovery Media (Boot Sector set to boot off the fat32 partition) ** Used to work / boot off of)
Partition 2: NTFS (600+GB generic data) Drive E: (under windows)
When I press F11. It used to show both Windows Boot Manager (drive 1 / partition 1), and UEFI OS (Acronis Boot Media) as options. When the recent bios upgrade, now it only sows the Windows.
I've even tried to wipe out the second HDD, and recreated the Acronis Boot onto it from scratch and double checked it to ensure it was bootable (using USB external drive caddy). It works fine. But when replaced onto the second drive bay, the bios does see it as bootable. It shows up on within windows.
I've even tried swapping the primary and second drive bay locations. Still no dice. It only sees the Windows Boot Manager.
So based on this, I can only gather that the new bios has lost the ability to boot multiple EFI bootable HDDs? Strange thing is, if I switch to legacy mode, they show as bootable. Of course, it would crash because the bootable image on the HDD is EFI.
So at this point my only option would be to completely reinstall my windows under the legacy mode and give up on UEFI to have this setup again. I would hate to do that because UEFI boots a lot faster, and just seems 'snappier' during operations.
One more note: I've also tried enabling and disabling secure boot under UEFI. I normally use it as 'disabled'.
So, in a nutshell here's what I think has happened: The new bios for some reason only looks for Windows based EFI specific on HDDs? Because EFI bootable images still boots, but only when it's on a USB device. But if that same image is layered onto a physical, internal HDD, the bios is not seeing it, or ignoring it...
Does any of this make sense? I am going crazy here, because I've been using it this way since the beginning (when I GT70-20D (barebone) first came out).
Does the secondary HDD need to be a GPT in order to be recognized under UEFI? -

New Dragon 2 owner here, but not your average user... No games on this laptop, but it runs server 2008r2 and thanks to the 3 X 128gb RAID 0 and 32gb of ram, makes an excellent computer to run multiple Hyper-V VMs on it. I am. Thanks for the feedback and congrats on your first post!
I'll be sure to mention that to people asking about computers to run VM's. -
And finally, did you use the same steps that you suggested in the Barebone topic to use the GT70-2OD Bios ?
Thank you in advance. -

Hey guys,
Just to be sure, even if the Dragon Gaming Center is not installed, the Hybrid Power tech still kicks in when its needed right?
I think I read before this was embedded in the EC firmware.
Many thanks! -

Hi all,
I have freshly upgraded my windows 8 to windows 8.1. Should I update my bios and firmware with 8.1 as well? -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Be sure to use the FLASHWIN in the BIOS package, and Autoflash in the EC package to update both packages in Windows. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Make sure you use the windows 8 bios too if 8.0 was your original os.

Hi all,
Ive had my GT70 2OD for around 2 months now and have been really enjoying it, very few minor issues to date and am hugley impressed with build quality and performance.
However, there is one persistent issue that keeps this from the 10 out of 10 rating i would give it, which is as follows:
Background:
Ordered the laptop from XoticPC, customized it a little including an 1x128gb msata SSD on the primary bay (so Windows would be installed there) and then bought a 1TB HDD for the second bay for general use.
When the lapotop arrived from Xotic PC to my massive disappointment it wouldn't boot at all....i kept on getting a message just under the MSI bootup logo saying "error no media present", turns out the msata adapter had somehow come off of the board during shipping. So I put it back in and thank goodness it booted up.
Presently:
Now almost everytime I startup the laptop (cold start) I still get the "error no media present" message, I then switch it off and back on and usually by the 4th attempt it will recognize the msata drive and boot to windows. Once it has booted I never get any errors, BSOD's, loading issues...nothing.
Attempts at resolving:
I have tried the follwing to rectify the issue without any luck;
1) Removing the adapter and msata SSD, cleaning the contact plates.
2) Wedging some foam in between the adapter and the casing to hold in place (in case of small movements when carrying the laptop).
Questions:
Has anyone ever had this issue on their GT70? If so, how did you resolve it?
Does anyone have any ideas on how I could resolve this even if you haven't seen this before?
Is this a hardware issue or software issue?
Do I need to replace the msata adapter or msata SSD?
Any help would be great....thanks in advance! -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Without the screw the adapter can go loose so double check it. -
I'm having a major issue, and could use some guidance.
I decided to restore my machine to factory default, with the four stage recovery DVDs. Something went wrong as the first disk was corrupted.
Now the laptop is stuck in a loop. When the laptop boots, it goes to a black screen which reads:
Intel UMDI , PXE-2.0 (build 083)
For Bigfoot PCIE Ethernet Controller v2.1.1.1 (02/09/12)
Check cable connection!
PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE ROM
Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key
I tried using a Dell Windows 8 restore my father had, to no avail. It installed, but went right back to the above. The only other thing I have is a Window 7 disk from a Clevo. It boots to it, but when it gets to 'Which type of installation do you need?', and I choose 'Custom', I receive this error:
Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that the installation sources are accessible, and restart the installation. Error code: 0xE0000100
So I'm stuck. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
If another set still doesn't recover the system then you may have a defective system drive. -
I also bought a copy of Windows 8 from Amazon, so I'll see what happens when it arrives tomorrow.

I'd also make sure your main drive is fully formatted again.

So I am from the Alienware 18x forum, I ordered a Dragon 2 eddition from XoticPC on tuesday, I was extremely excited to join the MSI family untill I ran into the companies customer service. This whole issue was caused because my shipping address was differant than my billing because I was using a family credit card that I am a authorized user on. I am listed on the card. I am a service member and have not lived at home for 11 years I have placed hundreds of orders with said card and never seen anything like this. If this much red tape is requried for a payment wat happens when I need service or warranty issues...
Btw the last customer service agent I delt with was awesome the rest could give a crap about me or my order. Here is the last email I sent before a cancelled.
As I fully understand none of this is your fault, I would like to express my
concerns with XoticPC. As an avid online shopper I have never experienced
the amount of red tape and lack of communication pertaining to my order. To
give a brief summary of my experience I placed my order on Tuesday the 4th,
I received an email from the sales associate that the company required more
information. I gave the required information and explained my situation with
my Father purchasing the laptop for me. I was told none of that would be a
problem and the bank servicing the card might need to call my Father. After
that phone call my order sat in limbo status for 2 days with no information
relayed to me. I called on Thursday the 6th to check the status and was told
I would receive a call back, I never received a call or an email. So I
called yet again this morning to try to resolve and was informed by you
about the further steps I would need to comply with. So I proceeded to
comply with the steps and awaited for the payment and was then told I would
need to place another call to my Father at work so he could call you to get
the order processed. That would be THREE calls from my Father and at least
EIGHT calls from myself just to get a payment to process.
So besides all these steps to get just a payment to post I am very concerned
that if I ever have a problem with my laptop or require any further
assistance that I will need the stars to align, the moon in the third stage,
and a sighting of bigfoot. At the end of the day I am paying for a service
and I feel like I am doing all the work in order for XoticPC to make a
little money. I do very much appreciate all the work and your polite tone
and professionalism regarding my order. None of these policies are your
fault, and really the blame falls on all the criminals and thiefs who make
these policies a must for a small business like XoticPC. I never had any
intention of ripping the company off or using my Fathers credit card without
his permission and I believe I took the steps to prove that. After my
experience with XoticPC there is no way I could have any faith of spending
the amount of money I was going to spend and feel like I was "taken care
of".
From a customer stand point you are an asset to your company and you truly
tried to help me, please pass this email along to your supervision so they
can understand the frustrations from someone who tried their company and
could not order a product due to the fact of their own policies.
Thanks again for your help,

Hi BorntoPumpGas,
I'm sorry to hear things didnt work out. The days you mentioned you had to wait (2days) is not normal as we do try to call or email with any updates as soon as we have them, and do try to udpate everything within 24hrs.
I was able to find your order which I see was placed on the 4th, later in the afternoon. At 8:55 the 5th we did email you letting you know it was being processed, later at 11:44 we called the phone number provided and left a voicemail and also sent you an email to the one provided to us. I see you did give us a return call on the 7th then some follow up emails about the shipping as you mentioned above.
We all are customers as well and when we place orders online we expect them to be processed as soon as possible, and do not want to do anything less for people ordering from our site.
As you mentioned there are polices we have in place to help protect us and you, thank you for recognizing that. When an order is placed and the billing address and shipping address are different we do need to verify that with the issuing bank as well as talking to the name thats on the card. Unfortunately because of past occurrences there are just no exceptions on that.
I am sorry this order didnt work, we are here to help people out as much as we can but when we cant get things to verify we cant use the payment provided. In this case it was the bank not being willing to verify information with us without the card holder also being on the phone. -

Like I said its not your fault either, the company has such a tight and ridgid payment program that anything out of the normal throws the whole system into a blue screen of death. The company should have more flexabilty at some level to make situations like mine work. Like I said im listed on the card, my dad called and gave them premmision and called the bank to add my address for shipping, after all that they wanted ANOTHER call placed from my dad while he was at work to verify yet again the purchase was valid. In the proccess of keeping criminals at bay and honest hard working joe cant purchase a laptop without giving up my first born.
Makes me wonder wat would happen if I need some service after I purchased, feels like I would spend 6 months proving who I am to get normal expe ted service from a 2800 dollar laptop...

Part of the issue was a period of massive fraud and the continuing issue with it.

My GT70 is back in working order, in thanks to the OEM Windows 8 disk I purchased. Just booting from the disc, I still received the 'Error code: 0xE0000100' when I attempted installation. But then I remembered a post on Windows 7 forum, which gave instructions on repairing this specific error, with the Command Prompt under the repair section.
Following these steps:
type into command prompt (NO QUOTES)
"diskpart" (enter)
"list disk" (enter)
find your HDD (in my case disk 0)
"select disk 0" (enter)
"clean" (enter)
"exit" (enter)
It was an issue with the master boot record, and the 'clean' command fixed it. Then all I had to do was install 8, and I was able to use the MSI driver disc to install the essentials.
But here's another issue I discovered today..I bought this 3rd party PSU for a backup, but the laptop refuses to boot with it plugged in, and once the laptop is on it doesn't recognize the adapter as being attached. The specs match up with what's required, so I guess I just got a bad one. -

Can anyone reupload the GT70 Fan Control tool?
-
Thanks. I found it before, sorry.
-
hello guys :hi2:
we want a program that let color boost fan work automatically when cpu temperature increases
anyone could bring this program to life ?? -
i was wondering if any program can make the fan work automatically when cpu temperature increases
can you do this in the coming version of the fan control ?? -
-
I think it would be a nice feature to be able to do custom curves. I think using 100% is overreacting on my GT70 - probably 0 to 70/80% would be enough in most cases when pushing.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Pherein's fan control did that on older models at least.
You can also modify the EC if you know how to adjust the curve. -
fan automatically turn on when cpu temperature increase
like temp is 50 c so fan turn on to 60% speed
cpu temp is 60 c fan become to 80% speed
this will help if anyone start to play games and forget to start the fan and will save the machine
And for the current 1.6
Silent, Slow and Auto does not make changes on fan speed for my computer
Medium 40% gives Almost= 2900 RPM
Fast 80% gives Almost= 3900 RPM
Max 100% gives Almost= 4300 RPM
[/B] -
i didn't mean that fan tool will damage my computer
what i am trying to say let the fan tool change fan speed depends on temp, maybe she do that on gt70 ?
but i used the tool for my gt60
could you make the tool more compatible with the gt60 please..
thx -
Currently I am not looking to develop the fan tool any further.
Have a look at svets ec tuner. New version lets you modify fan profiles.
