So I just received this machine and it is ridiculously good! Only thing is, I'd like to access the BIOS which I don't know how to do. Can someone explain it to me? This is the drawback of having 3 mSATA SSDs in RAID 0 lol, it loads to the start screen too fast.

Hi. Welcome to the club! BIOS can be accessed by tapping the Delete key after powering on/restarting. Yes, it's very quick to boot!

    Edit:
Hi again, can someone please run CPU-ID or similar and let me know if you have VT-x as an enabled feature.

    Hi everyone

I recently bought a GT70 Dragon Edition 2 and it is an amazing machine but I was wondering if someone knows if there are any compatible chargers from other brands (Asus, etc) that will fit this computer without re wiring as I am having trouble purchasing one here in Mexico.

I saw an asus G70 180W charger that apparently has the same tip size but it is 19v 9.5a vs 19.5v 9.23a for the OEM.

    Thanks

I got my GT70 2OD-001US today and I have been playing with it since the morning, unfortunately I have had more than 10 BSoDs in this time. The error has always been "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal". Twice it happened when I tried to start GeForce Experience and most other times while I was shifting to a more graphic intensive state leading me to believe it is the graphics card. I have installed the 327.23-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql drivers but it still happens at times.

I would appreciate any and all help that you can give me.

    Thanks!

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the oem windows 8 for install? Only media I have is for an upgrade to Pro and doesn't contain the regular non pro version. Have been trying to do a clean install but without non pro media I can't activate using my embedded key. Microsoft seems to have the iso's on lockdown for some reason with 8.

I bought it from a reseller - didn't bother to negotiate with MSI. In my language it's probably difficult to find anywhere. That Pro version didn't work (naturally/regrettably).
Probably I could have it fixed via warranty but suppose 2 -3 weeks without laptop would be too much. All MSI warranty repairs and other service are gathered here to just one service center which is quite loaded.

Thanks. Yeah I was reading some tech blogs showing how to enter UEFI BIOS by go into Windows and make 2000 clicks just to enter the BIOS, I was thinking are you sure? how come I never have to do that on a PC based? so I decide to make the video on Youtube. :D

No problem and the video was made for all PCs shipped with Windows 8. :)

Well contacted MSI support about my keyboard, this time the enter key on the keypad is having issues where it doesn't detect the key press always. Also going to have them look at the screen flicker I get whenever the brightness is not at 100%.

Sad part is I'll be without my main "gaming computer" now for almost 10-21 business days as they state... so 2 to possible 4 weeks or a month without my laptop?!?!?!?!? Really makes me wish I would have sent it back the first time I had an issue with the spacebar but it's such a nice machine otherwise!!!!

I tried the "Banding" website and didn't seem to have any issues there, but if I went to www.fantasyflightgames.com and decreased my brightness, the flicker returned.

How can get SCM to remember it's settings? I set it to Game, for example, reboot the laptop and hey presto it has returned to Off. Most annoying. I'm running latest firmware and BIOS.

    Hi there,

I'm grabbing a GT70 2OC and I'm going to repaste and remove the thermal pad on the bridge.

What would be the best thermal compound I can get to apply on the laptop? I need this to be a good solution as I plan on keeping the laptop for at least 4-5 years

I'd also like to know if there's a way to leave it on permanently. Plus, does Hybrid Power turn on automatically? I've noticed recently that every time I open the console, it says battery and AC are ready, but the function is turned OFF. I don't remember seeing it OFF before.

Im having this same issue for about the past couple of weeks, as soon as it boots into win8 the power button turns red, im not running any monitoring software and I've even disabled Steam. I just cant seem to find what is forcing the 780 on, even unplugging the power doesn't help (I thought doing so was supposed to disable it and force the intel on). Ive searched this thread but cant seem to find anything that helps.

You are going to have to quit/disable any software that acts upon booting, to see which one is requiring your dedicated GPU. I would advise to first have the latest drivers for both your GTX and your intel HD graphics.

Hybrid indeed is automatic. It only enables itself when the power required from the GPU exceeds the PSUs 180w, so you will only see it ON when you play super demanding games, or overclock your laptop.

As for SCM I don't know but you could try a bat file.

Finally got my GT70 2OD-089US back... Ahhh... So much quieter while browsing the internet. I am so glad I RMA'd it... Even if FedEx did screw up the delivery and I had to wait an extra week to get it back. I absolutely love this system!

Hmm. Never used the BD drive in my GT70-20D yet. Just happened to go into device manager, and the device is showing within an ! over it. When I open its properties, I get this message:

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

Searching for updated drivers yields nothing - it says the latest driver is already uninstalled. Sure enough when I put a disc in the drive is not showing up in explorer.

Any ideas how to fix this? I presume its been like it since I got this laptop 2 months ago - but I've never noticed it until now....

Nope, it was not playing anything. Fixed it in the end by removing a specific registry key (apparently this is a known problem), then removing and reinstalling the device itself via Device Manager.

    You are welcome :D

Awesome, it feels good to use the laptop even if just for browsing huh? so much power :D

Not sure if specifically the GT70 but I think there are always deals. Since that time is soon, why not wait and see? Worst case, you don't get a discount on a particular model haha :)

Oh, thankfully that hasn't happened with my GT60 but It did happen with an older laptop. It's a weird issue, but removing the device completely and editing the registry does help, good thing you worked it out so quickly yourself!

    Battlelog / Log in

Looks like a pretty big issue with mostly Nvidia cards (according to this huge forum post full of complaints), both desktop and laptop cards. I'm getting the same issue on my 780M GT70. There are a few AMD set ups in there with the same issue.

    Hello Everyone

I just got my Dragon GT70-20D-039US this weekend and I must say I am very Impressed with the machine, I didn't change anything other than having had the laptop pre-installed with no bloatware and IC diamond paste, and so far it rocks.
I Tested the laptop last night with Assassins Creed 3 with all settings Maxed out and no turbo fan running for 4 hours with a max temperature of 87C. The laptop boots in about 5-6 seconds with the Super Raid 2 configuration ( I got 3 Toshiba SSD's as stock drives )

transfer speeds on the USB 3.0 ports are also amazing I got up to 190Mbs writing data to my C: drive with a Sandisk extreme USB 3.0. the laptop is exremely silent save for when the turbo fan is on which doesn't bother me at all, simply put the 1 fan cooling solution Is very good in this laptop. All in all I am very very happy I just need to get used to windows 8 now....

I want to give a very big thank you to Ken and he's team @ Gentechpc for been so very helpful with all my questions and requests Ken went out of he's way to ensure my laptop was tested, that my correct address and details where corrected especially considering there was no option in the registration to have the laptop shipped to the channel islands, and all shipping arrangements where a breeze, no to mention how quickly the whole order was processed. Very professional service, friendly and yes Ken if you reading this you have a lot of patience considering how many questions I asked you lol. I also want to say guys you have a very good and informative thread here for experts and noobs like me. well done.

Someone could confirm cpu and gpu temps under load with and without turbo-boost with the default thermal paste?? (for example after playing of BF3)

    I´m thinking in buy or Msi Gt70-20D (around 2000€), Alienware (around 2000€) or Clevo´s P157/177SM (around 1800€).

The Max temps and vent´s noise it´s really important for me.

MSI is unfortunately notoriously bad for their default paste jobs (that I've read around here anyways). As of now I get 75~79 for GPU and CPU (62 ~ 65 Turbo Fan) in FFXIV on max settings.without turbo fan but I've gotten mine repasted. I believe the GT70 is one of the quieter laptops (without turbo fan) and it is second to the G750. The Asus G750JH appears to be much quieter under load though and their idle noise is around the same.

These links give some pretty good reviews. The NBC GT70 review pretty much tells the tale of MSIs default paste jobs. So far, I'm satisfied with my GT70 aside from some shipping errors I've come across.

Can anyone else with a GT70-20D check task manager and see how my CPU time Bluestacks is taking up for them? On mine it seems to be using approx 15% constantly, even when just sitting in Windows. I don't really need Bluestacks, so I tried uninstalling it from control panel add/remove - but for some reason this does not work. The uninstall progress bar comes up, but it simply never completes. Any ideas?

I've tried that - but when I reboot its back and active again.

EDIT: - sorted it - had to stop the running processes as well, because a Win8 restart is not a real restart of course...

The Windows 8 restart is a weird thing. In a way it's good because it keeps configurations and things current, but on the other hand it prevents some processes to be disabled until you really reboot haha.

    Hi

Does anyone have Total Rome 2? if so what is the average fps you can get on extreme settings when running the in-game benchmark? the average I got was 33.7 fps. I am just curious as I would have thought a higher fps would be achievable on those settings.

I running the 770m, with the 331.40 nvidia driver, and it runs BF4 great!! If there are any crashes for me, its the BF4 servers. but other wise I haven't had any problems....not sure what driver you're running, but if you haven't tried 331.40, give it a go. It messes with some other games, so i have to change drivers on occasion, but yeah. sorry if this is a re-pete! :) For the driver, make sure your getting the one for the 770m, the first time i loaded it I forgot to change it to the laptop version and it wouldn't load either.

Just trying to update my BIOS to latest.

On the MSI downloads page, there are two versions: 70H and 50H. Can anyone tell me the difference and which one I'm supposed to be using?

One is for AHCI machines, the other is for RAID machines, since you have two SSDs in raid you will want the raid edition.

Heh, always worth carefully reading when it comes to firmware. Good you asked though.

70H & 50H are the same BIOS except the default SATA mode.
Therefore, you can always manually change the SATA mode to desired setting.
