Exactly! When either of those programs are running it will enable the 780 to an always on state (in order to monitor it, it has to be on) So if any of those are running in the BG, it will be orange and you will not be using optimiss at all. Best thing to do it to NOT use any temp monitoring utilities unless your about to run a game or something that is going to need the 780 to take advantage of the amazing battery life optimiss offers. Also make sure steam is using the igpu. Steam doesnt need the 780 running. When launching a game, it will enable the 780 but no reason for just using and downloading with steam.

***in other words, when the power light is white, your 780 is pretty much off and you have no reason to monitor the temp. Even in the hottest of days, its in a state that stops it to like 2% of its power. Its not like a desktop card where the card is enabled but at a very low power state, when the light is white, for all intents and purposes, the 780 is turned off.

Okay, thanks to GenTech and and felix3650, I finally got to check the mSATA SSDs that came with my laptop. Upon viewing the BIOS, I discovered that the SSDs that I have are 2 Sandisk SD5SF2(128GB). Anyone know where to get the best deals in this?

So after having the laptop for awhile I'm quite happy but have stumbled upon an interesting issue with it on Battery Power when I'm browsing the internet certain sites seem to flicker doesn't matter if I do Chrome, FF or IE. Switch to AC and I'm set and ready to go.

I've not tried the beta drivers MSI has yet but that's my first step. Any other suggestions? I tried adjusting the power to no avail.

Has anyone had trouble with the movement keys (WASD) during gaming. Sometimes they stick on so the character in the game will move on its own after i take my fingers off the keys. Usually problem clears after a while. But is annoying.

Is this likely to be a keyboard fault or a driver problem?

    Thanks.

You could double check the cable is seated correctly.

Also Soran, ignore matching the SSDs and get a nice larger single drive operating by itself.

Updated the drivers, still nothing, I noticed if I adjusted the brightness up all the way it would go away.

If anyone wants to try going to this website

Anyone have a list of all the promotional items offered at X-Wing Events so far? - Page 2 - X-Wing - FFG Community

You should be able to see what I am talking about on the sides of the screen on battery power.

Has anyone had success with getting the keyboard exchanged? I'm still having issues with my space bar acting up and on the bottom left corner of where the keyboard actually sits, it actually has a raise part of the keyboard, I can press it down but eventually it pops back up.

Hey guys, I made an earlier post but got no replies so I am trying again. I've been having problems getting Hybrid Power to start. For some reason the program just won't open. Have any of you experienced this or have any ideas on what could be causing it? I made a post on MSI forums as well and got no answers sadly.

Hybrid Power cannot be turned off from my experience. The program is an utility that allows you to monitor when it is active or not. Not a whole lot of games requires the extra power from my experience so it doesn't always trigger. Final Fantasy XIV is one of the exceptions I have found though I'm sure there are plenty of others.

Well it's not the driver, it's related to the brightness, the instant it's not on the brightness it starts to flicker on certain sites, Battery or Plugged, and I ran a game in the background and it's using the Nvidia vs the Intel now.. I might email MSI support to see if they have any suggestions it's not a huge deal just annoying if I don't want the screen to be bright all the time.

Not sure if this is the issue you're having, because you mention it happens on AC power as well. But...

Go to Intel Graphics properties -- Then to Power -- Then Click on Battery -- Then Turn OFF Display Power Saving Technology.

The screen should stop flickering on battery now.

Yeah changed that the other night and again tonight, even did a reboot still doing the flickering my wife says she can't see it so maybe I'm just extra sensitive to the refresh rate or something.

I have a weird problem with my battery. When I turn off the computer, and leave it like that for about 20hours (not plugged in), then I turn it on again (plugged in) Windows says the battery charge level is at 92%. And this happens everytime.
Note that when I turn it off the charge level is at 100%. So it seems that it discharges through that 20hours resting. The battery should not be more than a month old.
Anyone has any idea why is this happening?

It shouldn't be. A battery that looses 10% of its charge during 20h is a very bad one I think.

Are you using windows 8?. Windows 8 by default does not do a full shutdown so your laptop will use some battery when you turn it off. You can try turning off "fast startup" to see if it makes any difference. To change fast startup:

    1. goto power options > choose what the power button does > shutdown settings.
    2. deselect "turn on fast start".
    3. then shutdown as normal.

note: to change the setting you may have to click "change settings that are currently unavailable" at the top of the page

Do MSI-GT70 stock screens have any issues with banding? I recently got a replacement of, supposedly, the same screen for my GT70 and I was wondering if it was a universal thing with the screen. The gradient test from this website perfectly shows the issue:

Gradient (banding) - Lagom LCD test

My $400 acer laptop from 2009 does not have this issue of noticeable lines appearing yet my Dragon Edition 2 does. If anyone else is experiencing this with their stock screen, it would be greatly appreciated if you could let me know. MSI has told me that this is apparently "normal" with this screen.

I loose some % of battery but not on a single day, maybe 2 days and I loose like 1%. Something is consuming power while turned off? how odd... Could it be bad calibration from the battery?

I just received my dragon edition and the graphics card cant be detected by dxdiag and I cant update the driver. The graphics card works fine though. So I decided to format the PC which didn't have the windows serial activation code sticker on so I retrieved the serial number from a software. I downloaded windows, formatted my PC, tried my serial code it didnt work but my issue with the graphics card has been resolved. So I cant activate windows.

What should I do now with windows? Is it standard that I get my PC without the serial activation code sticker? I bought it from xoticpc.

On WIN 8 systems, OEM manufacturers now embed the Product Key within the system bios..... it's called OA3 activation, and product key stickers are no longer provided. How did you retrieve your product key..... a product like Magical Jelly Bean? What version of Windows did you download? Which key are you trying to use to activate Windows.......the one embedded in bios, or the downloaded product?

I suggest you get with XoticPC or MSI to resolve this issue. Good Luck!

    :)

I downloaded windows 8 pro and tried my windows activation key. It stated that the product key is not compatible something like that. I used www.belarc.com to retrieve my serial key.

Yes, you will need to use the OEM version...... and once activated, you can then ' upgrade' to WIN 8 Pro, which will automatically activate with your existing (bios embedded) key.

If you are planning on using Bitlocker, Hyper-V, VHD booting support or install the Media Center pack then ok. Else there is little reason in doing so. I too got some spare Win 7 Pro and Win 8 Pro keys I plan on using for work and home desktops.

Any lockups with the new driver regarding hardware acceleration in any of the browsers(Firefox IE Chrome)? The betas would cause some problems on javascript and flash heavy websites

I'm finally going to be ordering two MSI GT70's :D
One for me, one for my partner.

I'm going with the 2OC ( MSI GT70 2OC-065US - XOTIC PC - MSI Gaming Laptop) however. I can't justify spending 600USD for the 780. Just doesn't seem worth it...

    Would you say it is?

Define "worth it". I used Notebookcheck's Ultra benchmark preset to find the 780M's advantage over the 770M, and only averaging the 15 most recent games (all 2013 releases except 2012's Far Cry 3), the result was 51% in the 780M's favor. That's a pretty massive difference in power.

I'm pretty sure the 780M's limit is 92C, and the CPU should be over 90C as well.

I'm assuming you aren't using the fans on high speeds, as my temps are in the 70s with the fans turned up.

I'm hovering around 75~79 with everything maxed out (Maximum setting) in FFXIV. I've gotten as high as 83 when I'm around a lot of water for an extended period of time. The GPU is pretty much constantly at 99% usage at this point.

I need help with getting the optical on the GT70 to work. I have tried outputting optical sound through the SPDIF/headphone jack on the left side of the laptop, all to no avail. I notice that in the playback devices window, the option that says 'Realtek Digital Audio' is greyed out and there is a downward red arrow on it and says 'Not plugged in'. Also, dont SPDIF jacks have a red dotted light that is visible when you look into them? The jack on this one doesnt have any such light as far as I can see.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've spent hours trying to google a solution but I cant seem to find whats going on. I hope its not a hardware issue.
