I use a Plantronics GameCom 780 as my regular headset for online gaming, and I recommend the cooler master U2 or U3 for cooling pad, as it has removable fans that you place where you need.

Thanks for your reply ryzeki !

All right. I will probably go with the cooler master U3.

Actually, I'm searching for wireless headset. I guess the Corsair Vengeance 2000 Wireless 7.1 is a good choice...

What about a back-bag ? What do you guys use for moving your laptop ?

I got one of these, to take my laptop when I commute on motorcycle.
Aquabourne Waterproof Laptop Backpack. Daypack for travel, leisure, gym, beach, sports. 3 Year Quality Guarantee: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

    20130902_121405.jpg

The laptop compartment is just long enough for the laptop, but you can stuff a load more things in the other area if you expand the bag out. Picture is with the MSI Gt70 inside.
I use it just for the laptop, and all other stuff goes in a tank bag on the motorcycle.

I was particular keen on it being water proof with a hood - to ensure no water will sneak through the zips.

I like the bag very much, definitely recommended.

Guys, has anyone unlocked the bios of a GT70-2OD ? (specially the ones with high end haswells that might benefit of some bios settings for oc?) Does anyone know if there is already any unlocked BIOS allowing for PSUs with more power? (I tried the MSI forum but I need a few posts to ask for ex Svet about this)

    Thanks!

It's the EC that deals with power. Also remember you will want your specific bios modded as your windows key is embedded in it ;)

My backpack is this one Amazon.com: Kensington 62238 Contour Backpack: Computers & Accessories

Its from my work. It is nicely padded and works great for my laptop but I have a 15inch version, the GT60, so the GT70 won't fit well (I had the GT70 barebone and it didn't fit properly, I had to almost push it and shove it to make it stay in place.

Thanks Meaker. Can you give me some more information about what you said? Is there any modded EC out there that can use a PSU with more power? To use this modded EC do we need a modded BIOS? Why do I need to have my windows key embedded in it? Are MSI modded BIOS specific to an OS..? ve never seen that before.

Sorry for all the questions, but I don't know much about this field.

    Many thanks Meaker :)

All right, this one looks nice !

You got me here ! I'm gonna buy the 3 years warranty... My buying project get closer day after day ! I'm so excited !

Thanks again to you all, it really finally decided me to buy this laptop !

With a few luck, I may get it before October (it would be awesome !).

In the future, I'm thinking about buying a razer mamba 4g wireless (with the pad), a wireless mic-headphones but my 2 first buying will be the coolermaster U3 and a good back-bag with a rain cover.

What is the first game you have run when you received it ?

The MSI retail machines do get a 2 year local warranty and 1 year global warranty as standard.

All retail windows 8 machines have the key in the bios to activate windows. This is true for all models of notebook and is now the done thing.

EC and bios are separate, I heard of a power EC being developed but have not come across it yet.

I've got this one: Amazon.com : Targus Drifter II Backpack Designed for 17-Inch Laptop TSB239US (Black/Gray) : Laptop Computer Backpacks : Electronics and it works pretty well. It's a big bag for a big machine. It pretty much completely covers my back. The laptop fits snugly, but not tight. You can get a lot of other stuff in there as well.

I guess it depends on how often you want to mess with beta drivers. Personally, I no longer go there with notebooks.
I use the GF Experience now and haven't had an issue with it on my GT70 675m. At first I was worried it would mess something up, but it was simple and installed drivers with no problems.

It's plugged in right? It will only use Intel on battery.

Otherwise, you can set which card is used in the Nvidia Control Panel.

Anyone knows a tool/program to remap some of the touch buttons? Like I don't use the G and display turn off buttons, but I would like a dedicated volume up/down, so I would rebind those.

Easy fix is to right click on the file and choose to start the game from the NVidia GPU. Other then that is like Kevin mentioned, go to NVidia Control Panel and under 'Manage 3D Settings / Program Settings', Add each game / program you want to use the dGPU or iGPU. Best of luck and enjoy your beast :)

Having searched this thread I have noticed that a good handful of people are complaining about the USB 3 bug that I complained about a couple of months ago (and was called a liar for doing so by certain dearranged MSI shills who frequent this forum).

However, I have never read any remedies to the problem.

Anyone with the USB 3 bug managed to fix it?

I just got my new MSI GT70-089US and found this forum, so I thought I'd say hi. This notebook is a beautiful beast. I am loving it. The only issue I've found so far with it, is that the cooler boost seems to be stuck always on, but I can live with that for now... Don't think it's anything that'll require an RMA, because other than a little fan noise, all it's doing is keeping the system insanely cool... 20s to low 30s while idle... About 70 while running through a stress test... Anyways... Have a good one y'all! Cyaz!

Already tried that... Didn't fix it... Waiting for tech support to find the issue in their script so I can find out what they recommend. Until then, I'll just have to keep the volume turned up on my games.

You might want to check the CPU/GPU temperature, could be the reason why fan is always on max speed.

to prove that it is the cooler boost install the RW-everything program ( http://rweverything.com/downloads/RwX64V1.6.4.zip). Run it and goto the embedded controller and change register 152 (see attached pic).

I was wondering where you could buy the same brand and model of mSATA SSD for the dragon edition. The version that came out in my country came with only 2 drives. I'm looking to add another one. Any info on this is highly appreciated.

I just wanted to update you guys on my RMA case:
Got a broken Notebook for DOA replacement, and MSI is keeping me on hold ever since. They say they cant find a replacement...
Im seriously considering getting a AW 17 and claiming mymoney back from MSI. Im waiting almost 6 weeks and their crappy service still hasnt figured out a solution -.-

Please keep that in mind when buying a Notebook from MSI. Always buy from a reseller!

Yeah, outside of the fact that you'll probably get better Tech Support from a reseller they also test them before they send it to you. If MSI sends a DOA you don't have to do the leg work to get it replaced.

MSI doesn't use same brand of mSATA SSDs all the time, check the BIOS see what brand and model of the mSATA you got in your laptop first.

The register was already at 02, so I guess according to the Embedded Controller, the cooler boost is off. Still haven't found any other reason for the fan going full blast, because at idle, the CPU and GPU never goes above 34 C and while stressed they might hover around 70 C at the most, yet the fan is always going at full speed. Of course, tapping the cooler boost button doesn't change anything. Oh well... MSI wants to RMA it, so I guess I'll just go that route, because I don't know if it's related, but I've started having BSODs too... Blah...

I live in Austria, so we share the RMA facility with germany. The notebooks are sent to Poland, but the quality of their work seems quite low to me. I work for an IT store, and many of our customers are complaining about the RMA service of MSI.
i hope i will be happier with the Alienware 17.

Alright I bought the MSI GT70 20c 065us model laptop from amazon. And I had a problem in the beginning upon opening the box. I would press power, and it will turn on for 1-3 seconds and immediately shut off. I would hear the sound of the fan start and then just stop. Eventually after 10 or so minutes of trying to turn it on I got it through the setup of window 8. I don't know the problem I am having>

Sorry if this was answered previously. I realize there was just too many posts to sift through and would feel grateful if you guys would baptize me with your knowledge, Thanks guys!

I also ended up opening back of pc to replace the 5400 1tb hdd, and replaced it with an samsung 840 series ssd and installed windows 7 through legacy not uefi. Thats where I am right now. I don't want to leave that out.

Silly as it sounds, it happened to me, you may have power saving profile active. I was unable to play Assassin's Creed 3 at full settings, it was at around 20 FPS, i had power saving active, it took me 2 days to notice, i uninstalled and reinstalled a different set of drivers, but the problem was something simple. Hope it helps.

Something else you can try is to force the game to run with the 780m instead of using the integrated one. There are two options, open the nvidia control panel, under "manage 3d settings" there is a tab that says program settings, find saint's row and make sure the graphics processor used is the 780m. The other method is by finding the game executable, right click, select run with graphics processor nvidia.

Well it won't help the situation you're having but your situation is why it's best to buy it through a tech reseller (Gentech, Xotic, AVADirect, etc). Those companies do their own QA and then if you have problems they have real technicians that can assist you. It might cost more but you get what you pay for. Amazon? Not sure what your recourse is there.

So I just got my custom GT70-2OD from XoticPC yesterday (I'm in Canada so I Expedited shipping to bypass brokerage fees). So far so good but I've noticed that EVGA's Precision X and GPUTemp both make the GPU's go wonky. The power light (Orange for 780, white for Intel) Is orange 99% of the time when either of those programs are running. the light will flash white for a fraction of a second and then go back to orange.

Anyone know of a temp monitoring program (that you can run in the tray that displays the GPU temp) that doesn't make the GPUs act that way? I really like GPUTemp as that's basically all it does but if the light is accurate on what the GPUs are doing I'm not a big fan of that.
