I don't really know what's the "standard" bleeding of an IPS panel but mine sure doesn't look like that. RMA it.

I appreciate both of your responses even if they are completely different!

Yes, it's IPS. The camera exaggerates the effect a little, but the upper right and lower left are definitely visible during normal use. Are they distracting? Well, I find the lower left pretty distracting as eg that's where the start menu opens, or if I'm watching some movie, perhaps there's a person talking on the left part of the screen to someone on the right.

But even more importantly in my opinion the display has oversaturated colors, oversharpened -smudged- micro-details, weird gamma(? there's so many details missing on the dark parts of a film for example), quite visible banding, and a warm color cast. Changing the color temperature helps a little to make it more white, but some colors remain wrong no matter what, I guess it needs to be calibrated to get it better. Installing any of the two notebookcheck ICC profiles (for 6RE or 7RE, they use the same panel) makes the situation worse as the image gets even warmer. I guess my panel has different out of the factory color characteristics than them (they must have come with a blue color cast unlike mine) so they are of no help. (Before you ask: I have checked and I have the same panel as everyone else, it's not that they installed some weird panel in mine.)

Since I doubt that these issues are "normal" I'm going to ask for a replacement instead of a refund.

Other than that the laptop seems very fast, pretty quiet, and with an excellent keyboard.

However sound quality from the speakers sucks (I don't care much about it because I'm going to be using headphones anyway) and the touchpad.. I don't know, scrolling with two fingers works like once every 3-4 times that I try to do it? I enabled the feature like 30 minutes before shutting down the laptop for good because I decided to return it so I didn't test it extensively.

If anyone has anything to add or comment regarding my experience, you are very much welcome!

I have the 1060 model and have no thermal issues at all, the cooling system is pretty good on this chassis.

I never notice bleeding in normal use, so yeah it's not nice to have. If TrueColor didn't help with it then i guess the panel is just defective.

What's wrong with the speakers? Are you running the latest drivers? The ones preinstalled are probably not compatible with latest Windows since Anniversary Update (at least that was the case for me), once you get the new unit make sure to update tto stay 100% compatible with latest Windows. I don't know about the touchpad, perhaps it's some "hidden" settings messing around, it happened to me when windows decided to update the synaptics drivers.

The sound from the speakers sound "distant", bass-less and tinny, more like a mobile phone than a laptop. Latest BIOS / Windows update / all drivers.

Nope, didn't have the time because I returned it to the store for the aforementioned problems. :) I hope they will agree about the screen and proceed with the RMA, otherwise I will have to deal directly with MSI.

Also I should note my battery was at 90-92% and wouldn't charge further, but I found a thread online about some other MSI model with the same behavior and MSI told them it's "normal": https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=259081.0

However I am not entirely convinced, is it like that for you (and other people that read this) too, so that I know what to expect if all goes well with the RMA and I am sent a new laptop?

Battery is normal. It discharges to 90 and then charges back to 100 and it keeps repeating this cycle.

Hello all! New user to this forum, hope we can go on squeezing this little machine^^
I bougth a GT62VR 6RD (6GB version) around 11 months ago. Everything has gone perfectly fine for now, and I've been able to play most recent games at Ultra, FullHD and 60fps. Some exceptions are Fallout 4, for example, where I had to cap game via RTSS (no Vsync on, only Gsync) at 45fps to improve framerates. Even though I was able to reach 60fps in lots of places, there are some parts of that game that kill your performance. It's important to mention that I have Godrays on Ultra (with a "patch" that makes the performance hit lower), and shadows between mid-high.

Recently, I updated BIOS, firmware, etc. (and downloaded latest Nvidia drivers even though I usually wait for drivers that really mean something for my gaming experience).

I also went onto BIOS and saw that RAM was at 2133mhz, and put it to 2400mhz, because it seems that it comes at 2133mhz by default (I know that is only an XMP profile, but maybe it can help).

I downloaded Heaven Benchmark for testing the GPU power. Everything maxed out, no V-sync. First I went through a benchmark without GPU OC and less stressfull benchmark (Q=Ultra, Tess=mod; x4 AA). The score was 1457 and 57.8fps at average.
Then, I OC the GPU at different levels, via Afterburner. The better was +200mhz: the benchmark (Q=Ultra, Tess=Extreme, x8AA) gave 1446 and 57.4fps at average. The attached image is of this benchmark.
For more info, going from +100mhz to +200mhz improved 3.3fps and the score 80 points.

    I haven't tried OC more.

What do you guys think and suggest? Should I try to push forward?

The temps were stable at around 70ºC with the +200Mhz OC (cooler boost ON, cooler base (74CFM) ON).

Any advice for improving performance? I think this GTX 1060 is capable of runninng games like FO4 better than now.

    UPDATE:
I've pushed up to +220Mhz on core clock + +220Mhz on Memory Clock. I was wondering about a part of the test that inmediatly capped out itself to 30fps, when no V-sync nor FPS limit is enabled at all.
I dissabled G-SYNC just to test what happened.

I just leave the results to you: first, with G-SYNC ON. Second, with G-SYNC OFF. Weird.

Hi, I just bought GT62VR 7RE few weeks ago, and I noticed 10-11C differential on temps on 7700HQ, does repasting solve this issue or is it a problem with the core itself?

Max and the average temp have constant 10C differential, but in idle cores stay the same temps.
The CPU Idle temps is balanced maybe 1-2C difference only.
It is already -0.120V undervolted using Intel XTU

Are you using 100% fan speed? If not, please do that.
If you are, those temps are quite high for a 45W TDP CPU. When using NON AVX instructions. you should not exceed 60C. I'm assuming you already undervolted by -100mv in throttlestop (if not, you should).

BTW you can use prime 29.x and just disable AVX And FMA3 in local.txt. Try that. There's no reason to use the 26.x version of prime when you can just use 29.x and disable AVX and FMA3.
the file undoc.txt has the information on how to do that.

I would definitely repaste. Also check paste balance by using a pressure pad or a test application (works best with a VERY thin layer). Make sure the heatsink is balanced and the thermal pad layout has even pressure. With a CPU with that low TDP and not using AVX instructions, you should not exceed 5C core temp differences.

Just for reference, when I draw 100W of power on a 7820HK, at 4.3 ghz with AVX (FMA3), and liquid metal repaste, the temps are extremely high (depending on ambient, very cold could be 80C, cool could be 83C, warm could be 85C-88C), but core temp differences vary from 3C to 5C.

You using a much weaker 45W CPU at 3.4 ghz should get nowhere near that, provided you do a good repaste, and you don't need LM.

Hello guys, I spilled a bit water on my gt62vr keyboard and now the keyboard is dead. I was wondering what are the chances of keyboard being dead and not the motherboard fault? And is there any disassembly/keyboard replacing manual/guide for gt62vr?

    Anyone bought this laptop refurbished?
Seen it for $1080 with the 1060 and i was thinking about getting that instead of the p950hp6.

Yeah I know there 2 different classes of laptops but I figured for the price it's not a bad idea and I play exclusively indoors anyway. (I just move often and tend stay in hotels hence the need for a laptop)

I will try to make this as short as possible so I won't lose your kind attention.

    I have an MSI GT62vr, CPU i7-6700HQ, GPU Nvidia 1070, 16GB RAM.
Vsync is turned off in Nvidia control panel and in all games setting.
In all scenarios, Sports mode is activated in MSI Dragon center which brings the GPU and CPU to their max native clocks without any Overclocking.

Problem: My system has been running perfectly for 10 months up until last week where it can no longer achieve the regular high fps in the same games I used to play.
In Ryse son of Rome on ultra, I used to get steady 80-100fps, now it cannot go above 64fps max, while dipping to 22fps.
In Crysis 3 on very high, used to get 70-80fps on ultra, now 35-65fps.
In Battlefield 3 on max settings, used to get above 150fps, now down to 70-110fps.
The degree of jitter or throttling of FPS is high in all these games. The FPS ranges significantly while gaming. I tested for overheating and it is not a temperature problem.

Investigated causes of the problem so far: (5 and 6 are the most interesting)

    1. Drivers: I updated to the latest nvidia 388 driver using DDU clean install. Problem not solved. I reverted to the factory stock nvidia drivers using DDU. Problem still not solved. I did not "remove the present and nonpresent monitors" (under options of DDU) which is recommended to do, so I will try that again soon although I doubt it.

    2. Temperature: I monitored the GPU and CPU using MSI Afterburner and their temps range between 64C and 80C at maximum during Gameplay. Correct me if I am wrong, these are not considered as high temps which might cause voltage throttling.

    3. Utilization: This bothers me as MSI Afterburner shows that neither the GPU nor the CPU are being fully utilized up to 100% in any of the games at max settings. They go up to 70%. The CPU is always more relaxed at 40%-60%. I saw recordings on youtube of identical systems playing same games with GPU always on 99% and much higher FPS than my current performance. My GPU does get clocked to around 1700Mhz during gaming while on Sports mode. It can reach a max of 1919Mhz native. Never OC'ed anything.

    4. Malware and Cryptomining: Some theories on the web state that malware can cause what i am experiencing so i am running a deep system scan while typing this.

    5. Benchmarks: This is the tricky part. All synthetic benchmarks such as Unigine Heaven, Valley, and PC Mark 7 resulted in competitve scores which are comparable to similar systems. My Low FPS problem is only in games.

    6. Lowering Settings: I lowered graphics to lowest settings in all the above games and I still got the low fps problem. This is very perplexing. Ryse Son of War wouldn't go above 64fps again even on lowest settings same as on ultra settings! It went over 100fps before this problem started. Same for other games. What does this tell you?

I am out of options, and appreciate your guidance on how to restore my original FPS power.

EDIT: Added a recording of the insane GPU throttling that is happening and attached the corresponding GPU-Z sensor log.

    Thank you

Is this normal for this laptop? At the bottom of the screenshot you see "Yes" for CPU thermal throttling during gaming.

    At
At these temperatures typically , it should not throttle. Maybe your bios settings have throttling threshold set earlier that maybe the reason for your unexplainable loss of performance!

There are minimal options to play with in the Bios. Never modified the BIOS since purchase. Why now? I think it is just poor cooling.

I want to know what should be my strategy when communicating this to MSI RMA department.

Should I simply ask for a fix where they clean up the dust and reapply the thermal paste? What should be the IDLE temps in best conditions after repairs? Right now my Idle temps are mid-40s for CPU and GPU. It has always been like that since purchase.

Should I ask for a full return? an exchange?or just clean and repaste this one?

The temperatures are not hitting 90 Celsius so it cannot be throttling. Have you updated the BIOS & EC firmware to the latest? Under what scenario the CPU was hitting 82~83 Celsius as shown on the image?

Hi Kevin, thank you for passing by. Actually 3 of the CPU cores reached 87C, 89C, and 91C while playing Ryse Son of Rome for 10mins and Battlefield 3 for 5mins. (see screenshot below, YES in red). The cores throttled by around 600Mhz if you compare their max and min frequencies during the short gaming session.

My GPU hit 81C during the same session. Fans were on auto. If I activate cooler boost, temps will go down a bit but still above normal. I still experience the FPS dips and fluctuations even when Cooler boost is activated, only difference is CPU cores dont reach 90C.

    CPU Throttling:

Fluctuating and Dipping FPS during Gameplay:

Any ideas on the next steps with MSI are appreciated. I will not open the case myself. I hope cleaning dust and repasting would work as a long term fix. If it is a poor design issue then hard luck for me. In all cases I should be very clear while communicating with MSI so I am open to suggestions.

UPDATE: Things are back to normal, framerates are restored to original high levels. Here's how:

    1. I got sick of this laptop last morning because of all the inexplicable issues described in this thread.
    2. Decided to go for a walk, held SHIFT key+clicked on shutdown button in start menu
    3. Unplugged the laptop from AC power
    4. Plugged it back in 8 hours later, and all games run optimally again.

I changed absolutely nothing in software settings, drivers, and of course never opened the case.

    What was that all about?!

@plee82 sorry to bother, i was looking at the skylake/kaby lake hyperthread bug thread and saw you updated to latest bios available for our laptop, i wanted to ask how does it perform and if they added the speedshift toggle into BIOS settings.
I'm tagging you here since it can be helpful also to others :)

There is no optimus: only GTX is active, you cannot switch to Intel.

Is this fair for a GT62VR owner? I feel so gypped. I am in disbelief reading this from MSI Support center in Ontario, Canada. I might as well have purchased a Dell Inspiron or MSI GP or GS Stealth series to run old games from 2011 with such high temperatures. I feel abandoned, stabbed in the back, and out of options. If you are an owner please share your temps. MSI supposedly cleaned it and replaced the CPU fan but GPU still overheats. I have it elevated and all vents are unblocked and room temp is 20C. :(

Have you followed up by calling in an escalating this to a supervisor?

Explain you requested a re-paste because the GPU temps are 10c too high, and they did nothing except replace the fan, which you don't think did anything at all based on your tests since receiving the laptop back from MSI RMA.

BTW, how are the CPU temps in general? That one measurement doesn't look bad. If they are ok, be sure and tell him that the problem is only with the GPU, and that the CPU temps are great/fine.

Then they will focus on repasting the GPU. IDK if this model can do just one instead of both though... so you might want to tell him you want them to be careful to preserve the CPU paste as it's good for you now.

You can do this via another ticket, asking to escalate this to a manager for review so you can RMA it for a GPU re-paste, but on the phone with a calm even voice you can get more resolved quickly - they may schedule a call back from a manager and that's fine, keep your phone with you and don't miss that call :)

It happens sometimes, it sucks, but sending back 2 or even 3 times has happened. Do your best to remain calm and treat them congenially, it will make a big difference in getting things resolved in only 1 more trip back.

I would not suggest repasting yourself yet, work through MSI RMA first - you can lose further warranty support doing it yourself. If you end up stuck doing it yourself, do a lot of online learning before attempting it.

The GPU temp isn't "critical" so that is their point, if you can find another test to do to bring the temps up higher - a GPU benchmark or game benchmark that they can run themselves to confirm the high temp, that might help too.

Good luck! And, please come back and let us know how it works out. :)

    Thanks Hmscott.
Shipping to to their center cost me $170 and the problem is still unresolved. 2 or 3 more trips is way too costly, better off buying a new laptop.

I asked to speak with a manager yesterday over the phone and the operator denied it saying 80C-86C for GPU is fine as long as it does not hit critical 94C. "He cannot see it as a problem" like I do. It is an an old 2011 game. How is a DELL Inspiron or any other $1,000 laptop any different?

In my written response above I made it clear that the CPU is now a bit better and I was focusing on the GPU. They dismissed the GPU problem again in their latest written response as you can see.

I believe I am courteous and calm over the phone. My wife was overhearing the conversation and said I am being too kind to them after hanging up. They just don't see GPU rising to 86C within 15mins as a problem in this model.

On top of that, the CPU cores did reach 90C in another game (King Arthur II The Role...) while testing the unit after receiving it from RMA. So even the new CPU fan which they installed is not doing the trick. I have more than 15 years experience in this and I can tell when a unit is faulty. I am being nice to them by just focusing on the GPU overheating because it is more evident than CPU overheating.

I believe the only thing that would fix it is a replacement of the laptop and not patching it up with new fans and thermal paste, because after their attempt last week, it is clearly beyond repair.

What fan profile are you using? Auto? Does Coolerboost help with temps?

Yeah, they aren't going to replace the laptop for that temperature, it's not thermal throttling and in their stats it's within the acceptable range.

The other reviewers with better temps might be different tests or just at the better results end of the curve.

I haven't tried undervolting the GPU myself on the GT62, but maybe it will help enough. Undervolting the CPU drops temps 10c, and that resolves thermal throttling there, hopefully it will do the same for your GPU overtemp. If you haven't undervolted the CPU I would do that too, it will help drop temps across the laptop as well, especially if there are shared heatpipes between CPU / GPU.

Here are some how to undervolt CPU / GPU videos I posted earlier:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...scussion-thread.794965/page-428#post-10630086

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...scussion-thread.794965/page-428#post-10630138

Also, using Windows Balanced Power Plan for CPU power plan, with 0% minimum and 100% maximum will get within a couple of percent of best performance but will drop CPU speed and heat generation between load demand, allowing the cooling system precious time to "catch up" in between loads.

For Nvidia GPU set 3d Global and Program setting "Power Management Mode" to Adaptive, it will downclock similarly to CPU Balanced Power Plan, allowing the GPU to cool between loads.

At this point solving this through undervolting is your best (and cheapest) shot, so I'd try that first :)

yep on the phone with them now and they still believe 86C is fine as long as i dont see bsod or crash....should have went with the much cheaper MSI GP Leopard or GS model and get the same temps.

Thank you for the guidance Hmscott, appreciated.

Yeah, it's actually not that bad yet... if he wants it lower though that + undervolting / tuning the Fans / GPU settings are the options available.

MSI support in different regions has started telling people that they will void the warranty if an owner repastes, so he should ask MSI first if he can do it without losing his remaining warranty.

Plus, a lot of people don't feel comfortable re-pasting themselves, and the bad results from "pc repair" places doing it, suggest it's something that should be done by someone with experience, not something the average owner will want to do themselves.

I don't think the temps are that bad myself, especially since it's not been undervolted yet, and fan curves can be tuned (MSI Silent Option), so there are other options to pursue before pulling apart the laptop. :)

They said they already did that last week when I called them just now. They also said they replaced the heat pipes.

Idle temps dropped by 4C-5C but under heavy load they still go above 85C both cpu and gpu.

You need to repaste it yourself. The job you can do is far better than anything MSI can think of.
Please read many of the repaste guides here, check some youtube videos, then buy some Kryonaut, or if you are afraid of dryout issues with it,try Noctua NH-1 paste or if you can find it, Phobya Nanogrease Extreme.

Ah, MSI did make cooling hardware changes and re-pasted, and you noticed a 4c-5c drop, so that's at least movement in the right direction.

Please come back and let us know how the undervolting, fan tuning, and power settings changes affect the results. :)

Yes exactly it seems they renovated the cooling components in my laptop (but did not mention it on their report which they sent back) but I still get 86C on GPU after playing The Witcher 2 from 2011 for only 15 mins, CPU @84C. If these are the temps at optimal conditions of the laptop then things will get much worse when I fire up games from 2017, ultra settings, and play for 2 hours straight. I have read a lot of reviews and went over extensive benchmarks of this model before buying it and users have had much better temps than what i am getting under optimal conditions. Trust me, it is a lemon.

Yes I will go through the Fan profiling, windows clean install, and undervolting in due course and report back. Thanks again Hmscott.

The 2011 game vs 2017 game thing really doesn't track completely, I wouldn't fixate on that as a definite progression, as TW3 is just as heavy duty as anything coming out now.

You may find games that have a heavier thermal load, but I think TW3 is a good test across time too. There are thread heavy games coming out, so it's possible that the CPU will get heavier loads, but GPU loads are pretty maxed out.

You can compare all you like, but you don't have one of those sweet end results laptops, and at the same time you don't have a thermal throttling failing laptop, you have an average results laptop, not a bad thing :)

All across the range undervolting helps reduce temps, it's free to do and produces lower voltage loads on the CPU / GPU and reduces temps without losing performance - do benchmark runs before and after undervolting not just to test for stability but also to test for performance.

At least give it a try, you won't break the warranty seal doing it and it's something you can do right now. :)

    Happy to help :)

If you do plan on doing a clean install, first get a 32GB USB 3.0 flash drive, and do a MSI BurnRecovery boot recovery USB drive creation so you can restore to the out of the box OS if your experimentation doesn't result in better performance, if you haven't already.

    Have fun :)

Battlefield 3, 2011. GPU Overeheats to 85C with vsync off, framerate is around 100fps all maxed. Cools down when i enable vsync for obvious reasons. I had an HP Pavilion dv6 with AMD 6770 and it would run BF3 at that exact same temp, 30-40fps. HP Pavilion Dv6 was a $1100 office laptop with one small fan for overall cooling and a tiny weeny side vent.

All benchmarks such as firestrike and heaven and valley yield much higher temps than what is reported by gentech and notebookcheck.net and other users over here for this model. 80C+ is the immediate go to temperature for my GPU as soon as I start utilizing it. Youtube brings it to the 60C+ range. Even after a fresh repaste and replacement of heat pipes at MSI repair center in Ontario (according to MSI tech over the phone).

Notice where I am coming from. I would have not complained If I got those results from an MSI GP Leopard, or GS Stealth, or Dell Inspiron. I want to download a demo of Shadow of War or Arma 3 and let it run for 1 hour straight on max and show you what I mean by I have a lemon.

Test with max allowed ambient temp. I think it's 35C degrees for all OEM's laptop models. Then see how it goes. Post pict. If 35C is problematic to reach, push up mome temp as near you can.

After clean install and minimalist deployment of apps, this is my 3DMark Fire Strike Score, pretty much on the low end for this model.

    Total score: 12603
    Graphics score: 16279
    Nvidia Driver: 385.69 on GTX1070

    https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/23353239

Owners, can someone please let me know what speed is the memory set at in your BIOS? There are two options: 2100MHz and 2400MHz. Mine is set at 2100MHz.

I just left it to 2100mhz. Probably no difference since 2400 raises the latency.

How do you guys explain it when the CPU and GPU clockspeeds reach their expected turbo max under load with no throttling, and temps are low, yet you get 30%-40% fps lower than you used to in all games? The system is not reaching its full potential in generating frames anymore. Vsync is globally Off. There seems to be an artificial cap on framerates in my games now; a cap that was never there. BF3 does not go above 90fps on max settings now and is fluctuating a lot, used to be a steady 150fps. Same for other games but at different caps. Benchmarks & stress tests run fine with no crashing but they give low-end results. Example of very low score (better than 36% of all results): https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/23368768

    1. Clean Install of windows 10 did not change anything
    2. Trying various Nvidia drivers with DDU did not change anything
    3. Flashing the BIOS with latest build from MSI website did not change anything
    4. GPU/CPU Temps are at 30C-35C when booting the game (very cold in here), and I activate Cooler Boost to prevent them from reaching 85C but I still dont reach the original max and steady framerates like I used to.

The on-screen display occasionally shows the "Power Limit" flag while gaming. I assumed this is common in gaming laptops or is it not?

Could it be a malfunction in the power adapter? The circuitry in the motherboard? The chipset driver version 10.1.1.42? Can i reset the cmos without opening the case? How would you further investigate this?

If you can crack this then you are KING.

Try to uninstall Dragon Center and SCM if you're using it. DC was the cause of performance problems in my GT62.
