i haven't bought the laptop yet, I might be ordering one soon. I was looking around to see how common this is and whether or not I could end up with this problem.

Just order it from the shop where you can return the item with full refund or defected unit exchange.

Those are all GT72VR threads, that's the 17.3" laptop... you are in the wrong thread, again. :)

The GT62VR is the 15.6" model, and it doesn't have the same screens as the 17.3" GT72VR.

The 15.6" GT62VR won't have the same screen problems as the GT72VR 17.3" screens.

    Please stop posting GT72VR 17.3" questions in this GT62VR 15.6" thread. :)

    OH GOOD GOD!!
Thank you so much, I thought the screen problem was for both of them. A review on amazon for the GT62VR said it had the same problem, but after checking bact, the buyer for some reason reviewed the gt72vr for the product. I might just get the gt62vr. Thank you!!

And if you don't mind me asking, does the GT62VR have any problems in general?

    Nothing really, read the thread.

Besides the GT62VR 15.6", the GT73VR 17.3" is the only other MSI laptop I'd recommend this season :)

I'm getting really close to pulling the trigger on one of these now that I am sending back my AW15R3. What kind of temps are these getting when stress testing with Prime95? Is there any way to hook up two external monitors and a VR hmd (like 2 monitors to the displayport and the hmd to the hdmi)? Thanks

It should be possible, I think. It does have 3 ports for external video output. You will probably need an USB 3.1/thunderbolt adapter to dp/mini dp and use both the usb, mini dp for external monitors and the HDMI for the VR hmd

So after having this for a good few days now i must say I'm just hugely impressed and happy with this unit. The build quality and looks are beautiful for the most part, it does look a bit gamery but then i have red and black headphones as well and it all just goes very well together.

It's built solidly and feels very sturdy, the screen has a bit of flex but nothing major. You can open the laptop with one hand easily so the hinge is good as well, not Macbook good of course but decent. The screen is unreal, so beautiful and GYSNC on Witcher 3 looks honestly unbelievable. The only bad thing i have noticed is a bit of lightbleed when on 100% darkness in a dark room with a black screen, i feel that is somewhat expected though. If you turn the brightness down or don't sit in a pitch black room with a black screen you will be fine.

. The keyboard is very nice to use, i never really use the trackpad but from my limited experience it's ok, nothing to write home about. The RGB lighting options on the keyboard is a very nice touch as well, you can make it as garish or as subtle as you like.

The boot up speed, ability to multitask, general speed whilst zipping in between different apps and games is very fast. A joy to use.

I have had 0 driver/audio/GPU issues, everything is running wonderfully well and no crashes as of yet.

The only things which have given me cause for concern was no.1 BF1 did NOT look how i thought it would, for some reason the game looks way nicer on youtube than it does for me in game. Not sure why but going to have a fiddle tonight with the settings (everything was on ultra). Another minor issue i got was when it dropped to 45 FPS in Witcher 3, i realised though it was just a certain area which was behaving strange in the game, a patch of small forest, when i fiddled with the in game settings (background characters from ultra > high) it was 60 FPS smooth again, was an odd thing and an in game issue more than anything.

    So:

    Pros
    - Beautiful GSYNC Screen
    - Fast boot up and general use speeds
-Great WIFI - over 2x as fast and much more stable than on my previous laptop - i never get ping fluctuations anymore.
-RGB keyboard is both pretty and very nice to use
    - 1070 is a monster which beasts games
-Temps never go above 75 on auto fan settings
    - Fans are not loud at all unless on cooler boost when they are a bit audible - nothing major
    - Games perform great - 60 FPS most of the time in Witcher 3 with all ULTRA and Hairworks on.

    CONS
    - Bit of lightbleed in impractical situations
    - Honestly not alot else yet.

My rating for the system so far is 92/100 - Super impressed and happy with the unit. I'm sure that it will continue to be an awesome system far into the future. If your thinking about buying a notebook i would highly recommend this. It all just feels right, a very solid unit.

I know others have had issues, that is normal with a laptop i guess however mine has been bug free so i can only sing it's praises. Thanks for the advice and help guys, very happy to have made this choice.

Hello everyone. Sorry that I didn't read whole topic, but it's long... So my question is: does everyone of you have GSync functioning properly? I just bought my GT62VR, there should be GSync according to seller, but no such option is available in nVidia driver panel. I found out that vbios version of my GTX 1060 is 86.06.2a.00.0c while on MSI support site two versions are available: 86.04.31.00.0D with description "for G-Sync" and 86.04.31.00.0C "non G-Sync". It looks like I have non GSync vbios ("c" version). Is it possible to flash it with "d" vbios to get GSync enabled? Notebook screen is LG Philips LP156WF6 so same as installed in other GSync notebooks. Thanks for help.

No, if your's came with the non-G-sync version, then keep it that way. The screen and GPU need to match each other and the firmware, and are set at assembly.

    You've got a non-G-sync model.

The system image, the Windows installation and configuration as distributed with your laptop, should have all the features enabled.

So if G-sync isn't showing in the Nvidia control panel as configured out of the box, then you don't have a G-sync GPU/Display/laptop.

Yeah, and then you ran Windows 10 updates until updates stopped flowing? Then got the latest Nvidia Notebook driver's from Nvidia.com?

And, you still don't have G-sync option in the Nvidia Control Panel?

The laptop came with the firmware intended for it, don't try to apply G-sync firmware, you could brick the internal display - or worse, make sure you have an external monitor if you just can resist trying it :)

Windows 10 is up to date. I tried Nvidia drivers from MSI support page, it didn't work, then removed these drivers and tried latest drivers from Nvidia.com - still no result. I'm not unexperienced user, I tried a lot of solutions. I already heard from others that they also experienced such problems - for one guy it just started to work from day to day, with another one it started to work after resetting bios to defaults* - it doesn't make too much sense, I don't see any logic in that, but it looks like sometimes there are coming problems from nowhere. If other users have same screen and same GPU vbios, how there could be no GSync in my notebook?

*I flashed my motherboard bios to latest version from MSI support page - no result.

I'm not going to flash vbios, especially if same vbios as mine is working at other laptops and GSync is ok there.

There was a slew of bad drivers from Nvidia with G-sync problems recently, but the recent one was supposed to be ok.

Drivers above 373.06 were supposed to have broken G-sync in various ways. Maybe try it, back from Oct 06:

    http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/108324

The other "symptoms" / flakiness sound weak, if the option doesn't show up in the Nvidia Control panel you can't enable/disable G-sync.

The drivers with the G-sync problems just didn't work, the control panel still showed G-sync option.

If you aren't doing so already, use DDU in Safe Mode to uninstall Nvidia drivers before installing new ones.

I checked on MSI support page Dominator 6RE (1070) instead of 6RD (1060).
    https://pl.msi.com/Laptop/support/GT62VR-6RD-Dominator.html#down-firmware
So, latest GPU vbios for GSync version is 86.06.2A.00.0C - same as mine. That means my card supports GSync as I thought. Anyway I removed driver with DDU and installed once again driver version from MSI page. No result. I will try again with older drivers. I have no idea why drivers doesn't detect GSync.

Just be sure you will use vbios for 1070 (6RE, linked before), not 1060 (6RD version 86.06.2A.00.0C).

Of course if you really think you need this and you have MSI? In your signature I see that it is probably barebone? On MSI page they write not to use their vbios with barebones.

I tried everything. No results. Now I'm downloading new Windows 10 ISO, I will burn it on new DVD and try to install Win10 once again. I wrote to MSI support about this problem, maybe even with good vbios there is still something missing at my GPU and GSync really cannot be used. NVidia driver control panel just don't detect GSync.

Anyone got any advice for putting a small overclock on the GPU? Is it safe to do with laptops and if so how much should i add just for a small overclock

Ok, so I found that bios was set to "legacy" - I changed it to UEFI (not sure if it matters), then installed fresh Win 10 again and this time I let it to install all drivers automatically - including NVidia driversf. And now Nvidia control panel detects GSync as it should (Win 10 installed 375.63 version - before I was installing this version and it didn't work).

Most games run super well, i am experiencing some small FPS drops in some games, like Overwatch, although i seemed to have fixed that for the most part it will sometimes go down as low as 60 FPS from 200.

BF1 has a bit of microstutter at times as well, really it's more Microstutter than anything, the FPS issues i was having was because GYSNC was causing a few problems. ~

I have unparked cores, ran CC cleaner, changed widow to performance mode etc. Just trying to figure out why i am getting some Microstutter.

I will be sure to use the correct vBIOS. My laptop is manufactured by MSI, and it has the same exact MSI gtx 1070 in it. I'd be very surprised if an MSI vBIOS would break and MSI gtx 1070 even if it is a barebones laptop. Usually MSI cards can be cross flashed with both Dell and Clevo vBIOS as well without issue.

All the MSI GT series (62VR and 72VR) are supposed to use GPUs and panels which support G-Sync. If you don't have it enabled, you might just want to update the bios and drivers, and make sure they officially fully support G-Sync.
The GT62VR 6RD-056ES sold in Spain for instance does not have G-Sync enabled out of the box, and MSI tells you to flash the latest vBios to have G-Sync magically appear in NCP.

You're fine. The thermals in the GT62 are excellent. When I had the GT62 my 1060 ran close to as cool as a desktop air cooled card.

In Afterburner just set +200mhz on the core. If stable go up until it's not in 10-20mhz offsets. If it's not stable go down in 10-20mhz offsets until you find the point of max overclock stability in games. After you find max stable clock I usually go down 10-20mhz for those random crashes and usually never crash again.

If you were talking to me the Tornado already has Gsync and has the same Gsync display and Gsync GPU. So yes I would flash the Gsync vbios.

Thanks Talon :) Can i set say +300mhz to the memory clock as well? I think i saw that diversion managed 240 to the core and 500 to the memory clock. I just want to see if i can eliminate the microstutter i sometimes get in games, the games i have it in is very common, such as BF1 and Overwatch and happens rarely

Both of the games you listed are very CPU intensive and love raw CPU power. In fact overclock your GPU might even cause more of a CPU bottleneck that you most likely are experiencing. A test to see what I'm talking about is to overlay and watch GPU usage with GPU core clock increase. You will notice that GPU usage goes down because the CPU simply cannot feed the GPU as fast as its demanding information to be processed. Another easy way to see this is to turn down resolution and details. Normally without a CPU bottleneck the FPS should increase, but in reality what happens is that you get a very small or nil increase in FPS and your games look worse. The only way to up the GPU usage is to simply put more load back on to it with increased resolution, reso scale, or details.

The microstutters you are mentioning may very well be happening at times where the CPU is being overloaded. One way to fix the issue would be to overclock the GPU while at the same time increase the resolution scale. Not only will you get a better looking game, but you will shift some of the load off the CPU, CPU usage will go down while GPU usage goes up and the game plays better.

To answer you original question yes you can overclock the memory. Just keep in mind that the memory doesn't have the same thermal protections nor a temp sensor for you to monitor. Though the heatsink definitely does cover the memory modules on this laptop and you should be safe to overclock it. I would assume you can get anywhere from 300-500mhz overclock on the memory fairly easily.

Does anyone know what the hell kind of AC power supply to buy for this? Searching for the exact Delta model that came with mine is fruitlessly inconsistent, i.e., there are still many variations that come up. Plus, most of the sites don't show an image of the exact pins, which is frustrating. I also don't know the exact name of the pin type used to plug into the laptop, and can't find mentions of it in specs.

As long as you purchase the one with correct spec then it's fine.
    Output: 230W 19V DC, Input: 100~240V AC, 50/60Hz universal

The best source is always MSI of course, but if you want, search on froogle.com.

Example of first Google result for what you wrote: https://www.amazon.com/Input-100-240V-Output-Power-Adapter/dp/B00EZJG7BS

Such an adapter will not fit into the GT62VR, because the laptop uses a larger less-common 4-pin circular connector.

My message was originally addressed to the GT62VR owners who fail to get G-Sync enabled. But since the F5 falls in the same category, then yes, I meant the F5 too. :D

Hey mate, thanks for the great input, your a true gem on this forum. Thanks for sharing your advice.

The funny thing is that the CPU is never really at more than 50% load on anything i play, maybe around 75% sometimes in BF1. I think the frame drops with Overwatch are actaully a problem with the game, it's like it's trying to jump back down to refresh or something as it's always 60 FPS that it drops to. However i have fixed that for the most part i think.

Witcher sometimes drops to 55 FPS which with GSYNC shouldn't be an issue but there is that slight stutter for half a second.

BF1 seems mostly fixed as well, probably need to play around with a few settings in nVidia control panel. Also my Windows needs updating so that may not help

GT62VR 1060 owners, do you wish you had moved up to the 1070? I'm trying to finalize an order and wonder if the ~$300 is worth it.

If this is your main system and you tend to not upgrade for a few years (looking at your signature I would say this is you) then yes I would say it's absolutely worth the price increase. The performance jump is quite large and will help that system last you at least a year maybe 2 longer. Still the GTX 1060 is a great GPU and if you don't mind turning down settings faster than with the GTX 1070 I think you will still be happy. G-Sync will help keep things smooth below 60fps and extend the life of the laptop further. Enjoy your new laptop.

Thanks for the reply. This will be my main system. I'm selling my desktop and my laptop. The plan is to get at least five years out of this before purchasing a new one.

If you want that length of time, 5 years, you might want to move to the MSI 16L13 with a 1070 now, and which may get a 1080 and Kabylake in Dec/Jan time frame you could upgrade to later.

NBR forum for the MSI 16L13:

The Official MSI 16L13 (Eurocom Tornado F5) Owners and Discussions Lounge
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...nado-f5-owners-and-discussions-lounge.797128/

And, if Eurocom stays aggressive with MXM GPU upgrades for the 16L13 long term, you might have other upgrade options down the road :)

I agree with @hmscott. If you're looking for that length of time get the Tornado F5 which is the barebones GT62 with a desktop CPU.

I am picking up a GT62VR tomorrow and I have a few questions. Should I just do a clean install of Windows or just remove extra bloatware? What bloatware needs to be removed? Is there anything specific that I need to make sure is working correctly? Thanks.

When you pick up your new GT62VR be sure to also get a 32GB USB 3.0 Flash drive - a good one - to back up the MSI OS Image Recovery using MSI BurnRecovery.

MSI BurnRecovery only takes a short time and makes sure you can restore to "out of the box" configuration for support, or if you get stuck in the future it's a quick reset option.

I'd recommend *not* doing a "clean install" from MS media, but instead get to know the MSI image, you might find it's good as is, and you might find some useful stuff in the MSI tools.

I uninstall MSI Dragon Gaming Center, and use Intel XTU for CPU tuning (undervolt, multiplier setting in 6820K), MSI Afterburner for GPU tuning, and set Balanced or High performance in Windows Power plans.

You can live with MSI DGC to start, but disable the IO XBoost enhancements - they use a lot of CPU / IO resources to keep them up:

msi dragon center turn off both xboost options storage and usb.JPG

Not the person who originally asked the question but I have a couple questions, if you don't mind:

Is there any reason you stated a 32 GB 3.0 USB flash drive apart from (I'm assuming) 32 GB being the minimum size and 3.0 being much faster?

What tests would you recommend running to check if the laptop is running as it should? I've gone through the post regarding uneven core temps and it's the primary reason why I chose to not get an Alienware and instead pickup a GT62VR later this week. There were a few mentions of MSI laptops having issues too so I know to use HWiNFO to check the CPU and use Prime95 to stress it. But other than that, I'm pretty lost on how to test the laptop and would hate to find out further down the road that there's issues when it's more difficult to return/under warranty.

It used to be a 16GB USB 3.0 flash drive when the recovery image was 12GB, now the image is over 19GB and won't fit on the 16GB flash drive any more :)

The USB 3.0 speed will be appreciated when waiting for both the creation and restore modes, USB 2.0 is waaay too slow. :)

You have the main tests already, checking for thermals, core differential.

Make sure to run the fans at 100% for 5 minutes before the thermal tests, and let the temperature go back to that same before reading between tests - start at the same idle temperature.

The auto fans don't react quick enough, even on a "good" paste job running p95 will thermal throttle at OC speeds unless you give the fans and cooling system a head start.

Or, you can run autofans, and reset the hwinfo64 readings to clear the thermal throttle readings - the auto fans once at full speed aren't 100% but are fast enough to keep things from thermal throttling.

Other than that, we usually run reference tests at stock speeds of all our favorite 3d and CPU benchmarks - system tests too - and save results in text / images and URL's in the case of 3dmark - create a login to save the results to share.

Then game, have fun, let things run for a few days before panicing over little details out of place. Take time to gain perspective.

Our minds are in hyper-critical overdrive when first getting a new laptop, and everything seems "wrong", when in fact it isn't - we just haven't calibrated ourselves to the new normal of the new notebook.

Above all, have fun, it's supposed to be fun :hi:

Thanks for the in-depth response! In regards to the USB, the only 3.0 I have are externals and couldn't think of any reason why more space would be a negative but just wanted to double check.

Sorry for my ignorance but I'm pretty much at a loss for most of what you've said haha.

In regards to turning on the fan before the thermal tests, how would I go about turning on the fans to 100%? Google said either through power options or BIOS? By starting at the same idle temperature do you mean ex: temp of 40 before fans turning on, fans bring it down to 35 so let it get back up to 40 before running the test? What does reading between tests mean?

As for the other option regarding the auto fans, how does clearing hwinfo readings on the thermal throttle readings affect the test? Maybe it's just my lack of knowledge on hwinfo but I was under the impression it'd track start and peak temps for each core? I guess I just don't understand how clearing readings, which don't have any effect on actual performance (I think?), actually impact whether it throttles or not.

Will Prime95 run at overclock speeds or is that only if overclocking is enabled? I have a vague understanding of overclocking but is it necessarily/always recommended apart from the power drain?

For 3d and CPU benchmarks, would you recommend 3dmark and CINEBENCH? Or pretty much anything listed here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html and check against it? How big of a difference would be a cause for concern? Would you say checking the GPU benchmarks is good enough in lieu of checking against the fps benchmarks on listed games? I only play ffxiv right now and it doesn't seem to be a game that's benchmarked against.

I apologize for the spam of questions. If there's any resource that you could send me over to that would answer my questions and save your time, please do so! I won't be offended at all and, once again, thanks!
