I did not dismantle mine yet, but I would say screws fixing panel to hinge are loose or missing.

May be people are opening and closing the lid from corners, and that's putting pressure on opposite side hinge.
I think opening the lid from center would put less tension on hinges.

Does anyone have a scale or some calipers and can precisely measure the trackpad for me? I'm trying to replace a trackpad in another machine and am hoping this one will fit.

Yup, it's best to open from the middle of screen to reduce wear and tear on any particular hinge.

Sorry but I did exactly this 'best way' for closing , happened today to me too. 2 months of warranty left + 3 extra.

I will ask at my french store if I can try to reapply strong glue like msi does. Some informations for fixing that would be nice. Thanks

update (31/08): while warranty is running don't try to fix it yourself please.

The stress on it can be too great, best to utilize your warranty to have it repaired with a new hinge. Otherwise by the time you want to sell it it's harder to sell it.

I just got a used GS73VR and im having some issues, The video card seems to have something wrong with it, im getting this in the benchmarks:
    upload_2017-8-29_21-0-11.png upload_2017-8-29_21-0-11.png upload_2017-8-29_21-0-11.png

Im at a loss. Plugged in, set setting to just use the GTX 1060, light is orange, could i have a bad card? I hope not. I tried playing destiny 2 earlier, settings from high to low, got about 8 FPS.

    Am i missing something?

So I just got my GS73VR 7RF and activated bitlocker on the C drive. During bitlocker setup I was not asked for a password as the GS apparently has a TPM 2.0. Doesn't make much sense to not have a password on bitlocker so I removed bitlocker before rebooting as I didn't want to find out what would happen booting up without a password for bitlocker.

Am I missing something or ?

Does this info help? I got it to work BETTER but still very low FPS. I wasnt expecting to play 1080 120 FPS on ULTRA. But i did expect 1080 60fps on Medium High on games. I have No Mans Sky at Medium and im still getting to about 30 FPS max.

    Thanks guys.

Is the CPU supposed to be running at 800 mhz on the desktop? I didn't think it would downclock that far without manually forcing it. Can you check the CPU speed when you run a game?

No not really. That's the summary section. Please open the sensors section and open the graphs in this image.

    http://cdn.ultrabookreview.com/wp-c...ance-temperatures-heavy-gaming-on-battery.jpg

Then run a game for 5 minutes and send a screenshot. Please also send screenshots of all the numbers as well. I moved things around to get the important stuff in that pic but you'll need to take multiple screenshots to get all the important CPU and GPU info.

Go to nVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Power Management

Now change it from Optimal to Adaptive or High Performance

Also, uncheck the nVIDIA Shadow Play from within GeForce Experience and also disable it from starting upon startup and disable the nVIDIA Streaming Kernel Service then try again

Well it looks like your GPU is running fine. I couldn't see the CPU power though - it should be maxing out between 35 and 45W depending on what game you're playing. Your temps are not really going up. What game were you playing? Also, what is your resolution on your screen you are playing on? I take it you're using the laptop screen for all your testing?

So i tried to play the destiny 2 beta, and i was getting FPS in the 10s at LOW settings. That was what brought me here, but the beta is now over, so i cant test anymore there haha

For this instance i was trying No Mans Sky. 1920x1080. Medium Settings. Getting 30ish FPS. I know having a 1060 it isnt the FASTEST card in the world, but i think what i was forgetting is that the processor is slower on a laptop then a desktop. My Desktop is a i5 6600k so that CPU will be faster. I just was really concerned with the low FPS. And yes i was using the screen as my test bench.

Any other games you can try? Also, do you have the FHD or 4k model. No man's sky is very annoying because it defaults to a 30fps frame cap and likes to run at native resolution, even though you set it to FHD.

Hi, does anyone apply a sticker/skin cover over the whole palmrest pad ?
I plan on applying carbon fiber skin but a bit worry about the heat near the top ( near on/off botton), wanna know if the heat does cause any problem with the skin or not ? thanks

After messing around with the drivers and settings, i have gotten the GTX 1060 to work for games now. Frames are relatively good (Minus Destiny 2 when it was out and No Mans Sky), but for the most part everything else looks good!

GTA 5 at 60ish frame at decent settings. And other games pretty stellar. Im satisfied. Thanks for the help.

For no man's sky, try changing your desktop resolution to 1080p before starting the game. I had to do that when the game first came out, otherwise it would use 4k regardless of the in game settings.

I don't know a ton about computers, but i've been enamored with them for a little over a year now. I just find that there is a lot of pitfalls and misinformation and complexities to components it's honestly making my brain explode. Can anyone tell me for an MSI GS73VR 120HZ display, GTX 1060/1070 (not sure yet). I'm under the impression that this monitor doesn't have G-Sync? There's so much back and forth I honestly can't tell who's right lol.

I just want to know.. Will I be able to comfortably play games like Rainbow 6 Siege with this configuration despite no G-Sync? What can I do to combat any issues I might come across. I just don't want to buy something and not be able to play games I want to and have it just be a compromise I can't work with nor accurately knew about ahead of time.

The gs series doesn't have Gsync. Optimus is enabled, which isn't compatible. You'll still be able to play games just fine, you just risk screen tearing at frame rates higher than your refresh rate of the screen. If that's the case, just enable vsync.

Gsync isn't a must for gaming - it's just nice to have because you don't have rely on Gsync and you can squeak it a little extra performance.

Thank you so much for the speedy reply.. so I guess last question(s)... Does the fact that i'm looking for the 120hz screen offer me a nice padding in comparison to a 60hz then? As well as what's your opinion between the gtx 1070 and 1060..?

Also is the fact that my refresh rate so high leave me open for potential screen stuttering?

And I've read that V-Sync creates a decent amount of input lag.. is that a thing?

I know I sound dumb.. but I just really need to ask the cold cut questions I need to satisfy myself for this purchase. I really appreciate your guys' responses.

I'd go 120Hz whenever possible. The 1070mq is only marginally better than the 1060, yet much much more expensive. It's up to you but I don't think it's worth it - especially when you can probably find Skylake models at extremely low prices these days.

I wouldn't worry about screen stuttering due to the refresh rate. If you ever have a problem, you can always dial it down to 60Hz.

I'm sure there's some sort of input lag from Vsync. It is, after all, a software fix to prevent tearing and sync the game resolution to the monitor resolution. But keep in mind that vsync has been the gold standard up until just a couple years ago when Gsync came about. It's pretty much what everyone was used to at the time, and is by no means bad. In most cases, you could probably just turn it off, because it's unlikely you'll be breaking 120Hz on modern games with a 1060.

Do you* have blurry 1080p gaming or windows experience when you downscale from 4K or it continues to be sharp?

*Please, only 4K screen Stealth owners reply to this. Enough with the downscaling myths and opinions. Do you get blurred image or it's as sharp as on 4K?

In games it's 100% ok (I always play in 1080p and never have any issues or blur). In windows u can see it a little on fonts, but it's not so bad. I'm now using my 4k with downscale to 1080p, because of 2nd monitor connected. When i had 4k 200% scale, sometimes there were windows' bugs with scaling, and alttabing games. If you are using notebook solo with no ext monitor, so 4k in windows and 1080p games works often fine.

Really really thanks for this information :) . Do you, by any chance, do any graphic design with it? I intend to use it at my workplace. I'm using the Adobe Suite on a 4K Dell monitor as well as the inVision studio that's gonna release in January on the same screen. Do you think this minor "blurriness" on the fonts will be THAT annoying that I won't be able to work on an external Dell 4K screen for example? You say there are bugs. Have you formatted it or you are using the factory setup with all those bloatwares MSI puts lately?

The only monitors that can downsample 4k to 1080p with NO loss of image quality are some 4k TV's. PC monitors with hardware scalers can do varying quality with downsampling, but I do not know any PC monitor that can downsample 4k to 1080p with NO image quality loss at all. I don't mean imperceptible, I mean none (as in you would see NO artifacts in fonts or anything else)

    don't know about OLED's.

I think you can easily work in 4k, if you re using only laptop screen. The only reason you want the downscale, is when you're connecting 2nd 1080p monitor and even then u can use setup like 4k 200% + 1080p 100%, but running games in this case and also alt tabbing games sometimes cause you icons to reshuffle. And draging windows from 1 screen to another is more tricky compared to similar scale.
Ill try to get some screenshot or photo of downscale screen in future, but now I can't.
As I know, in games when using open gl or d3d, downscale works much better then in windows. I cant see any blurriness in games. You have to understand that its just using 2 pixels for 1 and its not so hard to do with no blur.
But I think that TN1080p panel is better choice for this laptop cuz of time reaction and 120Hz if you are playing hard.

in the end which version did you buy? 1060 or 1070? I'm currently looking at various models and would like to know which one you picked up and how it's going?

Has anyone noticed weird reports from windows about the battery? My GS73 Stealth Pro-060 is listed as having a 65Wh battery by MSI, but HWMonitor says it only has a 52Wh (I just assume the MSI listing is a mistake because all of the other GS73 SKUs have a 52Wh batteries). However, out of the box HWMonitor was showing 47Wh capacity at full charge, after calibrating that went to 50.8Wh at a full charge, which made sense as the MSI battery conditioning would prevent it from hitting 52Wh. However, after draining and charging it again, Its showing 99% charge with a 44Wh capacity. Is this just HWMonitor pulling bad data or is there actually something wrong with my battery/computer?

It's probably just battery wear. MSI is notorious for sending out "new" batteries with 10-20% wear. It only gets worse, the longer you have it.

    Hello fellas,

I have recently purchased gs73vr 7RF (gtx 1060/i7-7700HQ) (refirbushed) and I am a bit concerned about CPU temps. On idle (ECO + fans on auto) its preety ok - 44C, but when I switch gear to Sport and set fans on Cooler Boost after 1 hour of playing overwatch on ultra my CPU hits 93-94C which is concerning (especially since FPS drops from 130-140 to 110-120) I don't know if that's considered normal or not, so far MSI support agent advised me to update BIOS and firmware as well as recovery the OS. I did everything except for recovery (cause hell, it;'s a new laptop) but the issue still persists. Do you guys have the same issue? Can it be improved somehow with software? Or the only way is to re-thermopaste it? Is it an outlier/factory defect or these thermals are normal for any gs73 7RF out there?

    1) Uninstall your Realtek Audio Driver then reboot when prompted
    2) Uninstall your Nahimic and reboot even if not prompted
    3) Install Realtek ALC899 HD Audio Driver v6.0.1.8273 / Nahimic v2.5.14
Install the Realtek HD Audio Driver first then reboot, then install Nahimic then reboot

Make sure that when you plug them in, you're not in any maximized or full screen app. Just like minimize everything and plug in your headphones. I know this may sound dumb but just ensure you are actually plugging the headphones into the headphone jack.

Haha yes I'm pretty sure I'm plugging it into the headphone jack , no worries there
And i tried plugging them after a reboot so everything was minimized
    Still no luck
In control panel in sound section it doesn't detect my headphones either, I've tried with different headphones and still no luck. Bluetooth headphones work fine tho.
    Any suggestions?

This is very funny. It should be really as simply as installing the correct driver.

Ok, let's try this then. Using the same method of uninstallation I described above, download and install these versions.

Make sure to right click on the *.zip file and go to properties, then choose unblock from the bottom right otherwise when you extract them all the files within that zip will have a BLOCKED status.

    Realtek Audio driver:6.0.1.8172/Nahimic:2.3.21

Please let me know the result I am waiting for you

If this also didn't work, then I need you to think and tell me when did this issue start happening?

just a quick question , where is this unblock thing you're referring to. is it on the regular properties panel where it shows the size and name and etc?
