Which 1803 do you have? WinLogo Key + R, type winver [Enter] to find out.
Also, you can perform an upgrade on top of it by downloading the files using media tool.

Microsoft announced the general availability of Windows 10 October 2018 Update for Experienced Users on December 17, 2018. An update search should provide the feature update on Windows 10 V1809. Here is some information about what this means and what you should know.

    Latest... 1809 - 17763.195

Ja genau...ich verstehe nur Bahnhof
Yes on my ultrabook and Blade 15 there was also no 1809 update on windows update options as well (on ultrabook it showed even update errors with prebuilt update on windows option), I went to microsoft page, download windows 10 update tools and let them do the rest of the job, done. Need it for RTX on RTX off ;)

Unit arrived today, I missed signing for delivery yesterday by 10 minutes and have felt like a kid in a candy store ever since. Anyway, my build was Aug 2018 so I am no help but am also relieved! BTW, the unit look brand new, I cannot find any flaws or markings. The quick start guide was even still in its sealed bag and the factory sticker is still on the bottom. Feel like I got real lucky.

Awesome! Now go and play with your new toy! Run some Benchmark before you start tweaking.

    Temp, cinebench, Firestrike.

Quick question about the GS65: are the fans on permanently when an external monitor is plugged in, even at low temperatures? And/or can they be turned off with the shipped fan control software, again when at low temperatures?

You can set fans manually on dragon centre and silent option application. Up to 30% fans speed you can't hear it anyway. MSI GS65 on full fans booster modemod over 10db quieter then aero 15x for example so it's not bad at all.

QUESTION. I am too the point of updating drivers. So far I ran Chipset, Bios and FIrmware, set up and connected to network. Now I'm looking at the WAN drivers and Bluetooth drivers and am unsure how to proceed. Each has and Intel driver and a Killer driver. Since the Killer card is built on top of Intels card, my thought is to install both. Anyone have any insight? In device manager it shows the Wireless card as Killer and in Bluetooth it says Intel. Thanks for any help, don't want to make a mistake.

Once drivers are done I need to run a system Backup, then I'll run some benchmarks before tweaking anything or undervolting to get some baseline numbers. All I've changed at this point is turning off indexing and unistalling Norton.

    You will get mixed replies.

I have never had an issue with killer drivers, others have. I would install both.

Same for Realtek va Nahimic, again 0 issues on my computer.

    So Realtek then Nahimic.

You can use CCleaner or Revo Uninstaller to remove the Microsoft and MSI Bloat (really not much: Norton, Cyberlink, MSI registration, and a few others)

Thanks for the quick reply, I'm assuming do intel, then killer. I'm doing one device at a time and taking my time with a restore point before each one.

Hi, I want to use a thunderbolt 3 dock with my gs65, I know the laptop doesn’t support charging via thunderbolt 3 but can I use a dock designed for charging a laptop or will it damage the port?

The Thunderbolt™ 3 port can be used to charge your cell phone or tablet, but that is charging out.

Could you please link to the Thunderbolt™ 3 dock you are considering?

I haven’t really decide yet which one to buy, but most of them support 60 or 85 watts charging I know the gs65 won’t charge but I just want to know if can I can use them without damaging the port or the laptop.

Without seeing the specs of the docks you are considering, no one can really answer that definitively.

There's no specific sequence, each driver has its own place in the system to initialize their respective hardware. By default, Windows installs these drivers but if you have newer version available you can install the latest version directly from the manufacturers on top of default drivers.

    Here is it!
Yes, I know I can manually "force" updating with media tools, but I wondering why Windows are not downloading it by itself...

Thanks Papusan.. may be this is the answer; the 1809 update had some issue and may be still not rolled-out for my/our device. I prefer to not manually start the update and try to wait it automatically get in.
    Thank you too. :)

Ugh, I'm stuck, kinda. So i installed the intel wireless software from MSI site. This over wrote my Killer wireless driver. It also installed the intel proset software (which I deleted). So, being new to the idea of using killer drivers, I wanted to try them out. I tried uninstalling the intel driver from device manager and installing the killer driver but I am having zero success. It keeps re-installing the previous intel driver even after I delete it and run the Killer installer. Any ideas? I could just go with the intel drivers so I'm not screwed but I am stumped why I cant get the killer driver to show up. I do have the killer ethernet driver installed and the killer wireless driver was installed when I started and I REALLY don't want to start over, been at it 3 days already and if I can solve this issue I will be ready to run some stress tests and benchmarks. Thanks for any help.

I believe you need Intel to run killer software, but the same is not true for Intel.

    So

    1. To use killer you need to previously install Intel

    2. You do not need killer software to install Intel drivers.

So install Intel first and then install Killer.

The killer card is just a rebranding of the Intel chip.

Well, apparently I do not have a killer branded wireless card. according to the MSI website, my version, 050, comes with the intel branded card. I swear I saw Killer in device manager but may be mistaken since it does show killer ethernet. So I am unable to manage internet traffic with Killer using my wireless connection but can using my ethernet connection. I downloaded the killer lan driver package from MSI website and pointed to it to update my ethernet driver. I then rolled back my wireless driver and again pointed to the killer folder to update the driver. So I am running the killer driver for both. Not sure what difference it will make when I am wireless since the killer control panel does not recognize my wireless connection. I could always revert back to the intel driver if I have any problems.

On another note, after screwing around trying to get the Killer wireless card to show up in device manager to no avail and then having the killer software not even recognize my ethernet connection, I decided to do a system restore. I created on right before I started messing with this stuff. Well, restore never worked. I was only trying to restore 1 hour and it got stuck in "restoring the registry" for over an hour. I had to do a hard shutdown. Luckily no harm. Anyone else have trouble with system restore on windows 10? Any idea how to fix it?

Just run recovery (MSI factory recovery) and manually uninstall the bloat with CC or Revo, there is maybe 10 to 15 things you could uninstall.

Most are tiny like sub 100 MB programs.

OK everyone. Here's an update with my first stress test results. After receiving my unit, I updated every driver and utility from the MSI website. I made no other major tweaks to the system, just small things like adjusting keyboard colors, wallpaper, etc. So hopefully I can post some pictures. I used a fan profile someone posted earlier while running the test as seen below CaptureIV.PNG
    CaptureIII.PNG
    Here's my results, scary!

Don't be scared, that's normal. It can only get better now.

Stress test it with Max fans. So 150% on both.

Do NOT do what I did and stress test/battery test with GPU fan on all night.

I ran GPU with base speed of 30% and since its silent I said why the hell not, better cooling. I ran PCMark 8 battery test over night next day GPU fan was rattling.

Below is my GPU stress test result. Even though I I only ran GPU and CPU was at around 20%, CPU was still throttling. Since I'm new to this stuff, I just copied what someone else did on page 55 as far as testing goes. I'll leave it to the experts in here to look at my results, tell me if anything seems odd and what to do next, benchmark? Different stress test? I really need help. I won't do anymore until I see a few replies as to what to do next (of course I am going to undervolt but first want to run the appropriate tests to get the "before" results established)
    Thanks for any help.

I don't know how others feel about it but I don't particularly find any use in stressing the GPU. I limit my tests to 3DMark scores and see my performance was well as graphs.

I've installed Samsung 970 Pro 1TB as my 2nd drive and I was able to access it and use it normally, in the BIOS it shows both the PM981 and the 970 Pro are using NVME mode, but for some reasons, the Samsung Magician is only seeing the first drive which is the PM981, I tried repairing the Samsung NVme 3.0 using the installer downloaded from Samsung site. However, after I did that, the Samsung Magician couldn't even see the first drive now and shows only the blank page. Reverted back to Microsoft's standard NVME driver, same thing. Has anyone encountered this problem before?

    How much does it weight?
In the Nvidia Keynote the slide said "15% less", however the weight on gentechpc is similar to the previous model.

    MSI is relaunching the GS65 with a 2080 Max Q. There’s also a GS75 with a 17.3 inch screen with identical specs.
I happen to find someone that wants my GS65 with a 1070 Max Q so I’ll be selling that at a HEAVILY discounted price so I can get the 2080 version.
Anyone else possibly looking to upgrade? I’m making the purchase as soon as it’s available.
Of course, I’ll report here the performance of that GPU lol.

Not sure if that hassle is worth the upgade to a rtx 2080 max q though. Seems like they only upgrade the gpu, nothing else... at least that's what I get from the reports.
Sure I'm not a genius on this topic, but cooling down that gpu in the same old chassis seems like a problem to be...
The 17" model seems more appealing to me in that matter...

But sure go on ^^ Would actually be interesting to hear how they handle temps and stuff in a new revision.

Edit: The 17" hinge looks ugly as hell though... wtf...

Edit 2: Well they claim a gs 65 with a rtx 2080 max q is faster than a last gen desktop gtx 1080 ( https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/nvidia-rtx-gaming-laptops-availability)
If that's true and and it doesn't burn itself down... hell yeah go for it xd

After getting back to school and reapplying CM MasterGel Maker Nano, I can absolutely confirm that the performance of the paste itself deteriorated greatly after the first month and I used the laptop for 2 months or so after that. My temps gradually rose to the point that my games were auto-closing and I couldn't get through a full Firestrike benchmark without it crashing. After repaste, my minimum temps dropped from around 50 C to 40 C and maximum temps dropped from 90 C to 77 C. I will say that MasterGel IS a very high performance paste relative to the Arctic MX4 and LM Conductonaut I've tried (very close to LM), at least in the first few weeks after application. I've taken this laptop apart so many times to try different thermal pastes, application methods, and switching out thermal pad sizes that I honestly don't mind anymore if I have to repaste every few months, especially since I'm a clean freak and want to get at the fans with compressed air frequently.

I think it's actually a bit heavier than the last gen. Since they're pretty much the same external form factor, I'm hoping to see that extra weight is for cooling.

The one thing that bothers me is...
The GTX 1070 Max Q in the GS65 is 80-90 watts (I forget which one)
    The 2080 is 80-150W ( https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/gaming-laptops/20-series/).

This makes me wonder if MSI is somehow upgrading cooling or is going to severely hamper performance.

I'm figuring the original release information has a typo and they're replacing 1070 MaxQ with 2060 MaxQ. Makes more sense to me for a hardware refresh than a new cooling system and a new ~280W power system to run it all.

Nope. The GS65 will have a 2080 Max Q in it.
    http://www.hidevolution.com/custom-...5-15-6-fhd-144hz-i7-8750h-rtx-2080-max-q.html

On a 230W power brick? If this information is correct then the 2080 is heavily downclocked.

"A Gigabyte Aero laptop also made an on-stage appearance, outfitted with a RTX 20 60 Max-Q GPU."

Linked from Nvidia's website, is their CES 2019 conference.
    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/
    https://www.ustream.tv/NVIDIA

    Exact words:
"Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a Gigabyte 2080 notebook... 2080 RTX laptop."

Why trust a journalist to get things right, lol? Always go to the primary source for quotes, never a middleman.

Okay, it's "a" RTX 2080 notebook but "faster than GTX 1080 desktop" on a 230W power brick? Sure... in the same way that GTX 1070 MaxQ is faster than GTX 980 desktop.

    I don’t think that’s too much of a stretch.
The RTX 2080 is up to 150W. The 8750H is 45 watts. There’s still 35 watts left to feed the rest of the system and charge it.
As for the Max Q 1070 beating the 980 desktop, from the benchmarks I ran in comparison to other reviewers with a 980 desktop, yes it does.

    Small example:

    Shadow of the Tomb Raider
    GTX 980 - 52FPS
    GTX 1070 Max Q - 54FPS

    The desktop was running a Haswell-E 8 core 16 thread at 4.2GHz ( https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pag..._graphics_performance_benchmark_review,6.html)

    My system is running a stock 1070 Max Q with the 8750H. If I overclock the 1070 Max Q, I hit 62FPS.

OK now I understand: I have looked at the Nvidia slide again, it says in fine print "compared to the Asus GX501". That means 1.9kg. So you are right, it is slightly heavier than the previous GS65.

That makes sense. Can't put something more powerful/power hungry/potentially heat generating without adding cooling, especially in thin and light models.

There's an additional 2 heat pipes. Looks like they redesigned the cooling for this refresh! I hope they made the chassis more rigid though, I have some bends on my 2018 GS65 =(
