Ha, that's typical of Razer. They love fooling people with marketing.

Yes most of the defaults there are 0.
Just "TDC" should be set to DISABLED (Dragon center enables this and the normal "sheep" has no idea that it does), and VR Current Limit should be set to 600 or 800 (400, which is 100 amps, is not enough).

This is why I returned the Razer Blade 15 and went back to the GS65. Razer would not respond to my emails asking for updates, and then every day I received and automated email saying that I have not responded to the email, so they assumed my problem resolved itself. Changing the IMON slope, etc worked to lower the TDP reported, but then it would just throttle at a lower TDP (25W or 15W depending on the settings applied). Much happier with the GS65.

This is why I'm glad I dismissed Razer out of hand and went straight to Best Buy for my GS65. Razer's build quality has never impressed me. ThrottleStop to undervolt the CPU (I seem to be stable at about -175mV) and drop the core 5/6 turbo ratios down to 35 (max power on all six cores is 41.6W). works for me.

As someone mentioned earlier, it comes down to personal preference and you should go to someplace where they have the laptops on display for you to try out. Personally, I don't use the click at all. I use taps/multiple taps/swipes and they work flawlessly on the GS65. Both Razer and MSI are Windows Precision touchpads and have the exact same functionality. The GS65 touchpad is smoother and nicer than every Windows laptop I have used barring Dell XPS series, but those have glass touchpads (incidentally, so does the Razer). If I have one complaint about the GS65 touchpad, it's that the palm rejection isn't great, and I'll occasionally find my cursor moving while typing. If you don't physically "click" the touchpad and just use touches or taps, I don't think you'll find much to complain about. It's pretty solid.

Just placed my order for the gs65 1070mq, this is my first gaming laptop ever. So excited!! @Donald@HIDevolution who answered all of my million questions was so patient and professional, he helped me get the laptop within my budget range and gave me a quote for it at almost midnight. I care less about “cheaper pricing” or free stuff and rather have excellent customer service. Buy from them they offer many different payment options that work for almost anybody. They are truly amazing. I’m gonna cry tears of joy when I finally get this baby! Thank you HIDevolution!

YMMV of course but I've *never* met a touchpad that didn't register my palm as a touch/click. Palm detection/rejection just doesn't work for me, at all, ever, regardless of the manufacturer. So for me, a touchpad is a thing I grudgingly tolerate for only as long as it takes to get a proper mouse connected and uncheck "leave touchpad on when mouse is connected", and then it doesn't exist.

Bella cumpà, spero che l'attesa del tuo GS 65 sia stata più breve della mia (poco meno di due mesi) :D
( I hope your waiting time to get the GS 65 was lower than mine - almost 2 months due to stock lack in Italy).

    Guys, I have a question.

I bought a UGREEN USB type-c hub adapter with a HDMI port on it but when i try to connect it to GS65's thunderbolt port and plug the HDMI to the hub, my FHD ASUS 27'' screen is not being recognized. It's like nothing is being detected.

Is there something i'm missing here? When i first connect the HDMI port, the optimus indicator led turns into orange for a brief moment, and then it turns back to white.

    product is this: https://tinyurl.com/y98snzsy

edit: I've managed to make it work. After plugging the hub without connecting the HDMI first, I've restarted the machine, then plugged the HDMI in and out a few times and that did the trick. Guess it was something with the drivers. Now it works flawlessly.

Ciao caro! Sì, per fortuna l'attesa è stata minima... l'ho acquistato su Ollo Store e sono stati velocissimi. Me la sono cavata in pochissimi giorni.

Hello mate! Yeah, i was lucky... the store where I buyed has been so fast. I waited just a couple of days.

First impression: the notebook looks so good! Its nicer than photo or youtube video. Professional and modern design.
Yes, the display seems to be a little fragile. When opening it's better to use both hands, because it flex so easy.

Even with no heavy task running, if not some drivers and updates, the chassis became hot, fan go spinning fast and che cpu cores reach... 90! Yeah, very hot days here, but these are very high temps in my opinion.

The windows update to version 1803 hangs at 91% and didnt complete, keeping the ssd busy endless... (thats not a gs65 fault). I hope to resolve quickly.

I have also another problem with the Windows Update 1803 on this machine. Searched the thread about it but couldn't find anything, sorry if it was mentioned before. Everytime i try to install the update, it gives a BSOD with a CRITICAL PROCESS DIED error and rolls back to previous version. It gives the BSOD while restarting and making the actual OS installation.

Have any of you guys encountered a similar error ? Tried it a few times, same thing happens at each try.

I've been using 1803 for quite sometimes, for the first few days updated to 1803, it seems to be building index or something, CPU usage was high.

But after that the CPU usage becomes normal again. On rare occasions, upon resuming from Sleep at the log in screen I get BSOD the moment the password is entered, but the error code I got was driver_irql_less_or_not_equal, I'm still trouble shooting. However I chose continue to stay in 1803, as the BSOD rarely happens.

I've tried resetting the voltage offset back to 0, RAM timings and frequency back to default, audio driver to 6.0.1.8421, it still happens on rare occasions. Now I'm suspecting that it has something to do with the killer wifi driver, I was on 1.5.1859 grabbed from the killer network website, I've read its release note, the driver was tested in pre-1803 systems, but didn't state that it has no problem with the 1803. So I went to MSI website to download 1.6.1858.0 ( wifi driver 20.50.0.4). Until now, still no BSOD yet, but it's only been a few days.

By the way, has anyone managed to install 1.7.1034 on the GS65?

And in the 1803 there's something I think it could be a problem, in games like FFXIV, when you turn on the frame limiter, let's say I targeted at 144fps, it would go down to 100, very weird, is anyone seeing the same?

I think the reason for that frame drop is the same with why some people are losing some of their Firestrike scores after updating to 1803. That occasional frame drops might be the cause of that 200-300 points of loss. Don't know if that case is solved.

Did you disable that XBOX application from the registry? Trying to disable some "new" Windows features from the services might help solving this too.

    Hi All,

I just made the jump yesterday. Really happy for the moment. Still testing, I will write my feedback later...

Just to help to summarize for everyone:
    - What's should be performance and temp out of the box ? Mine: FireStrike ~ 12900 - Throttling
    - Without repasting, what should be the first custom setting ? Undervolting ? ThrottleStop ?
    - Which settings ?
    - Which tools to use ? I'm using Firestrike and HWInfo. I know my laptop is throttling but I don't know the frequency and the duration. Is there another free tool with some historical graph ?
    - ...etc...

It should be nice if we can add some kind of tutorial in the first post of this thread.

Hey guys, just got mine today. Having one major problem, even after reinstalling windows: I can't play web videos. I have tried YouTube and twitch, both on multiple browsers. I updated Java, flash, and Nvidia drivers. No matter what I do, I get a black screen for the video and sometimes I get audio. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Having a weird keyboard issue where some keys are a totally different color than they are supposed to be. It's not the software either because it happens while Windows is booting and in the bios. Anyone else seen this?

Hey guys, I fixed my video problem, but now I'm trying to undervolt and I'm a little confused. Right now, it's dropped to -.130 and running around 76°C on Intel XTU stress test. Processor core freq is at 3.59GHz and Max Core Freq is 3.88GHz... These numbers haven't changed since I udnervolted, but I was wondering what the difference was between them. Also, why do people lower the core multipliers? What exactly does he multiplier do? I haven't touched mine because I don't want to mess with anything I don't understand. Thanks, Mike.

Not as such. I couldn't get the stock OS to update to 1803 at all. It would get part-way through, stop, start over, stop, start over...

I took it as a cue to wipe the drive and install 1803 from ISO.

Core frequency is the current frequency of the CPU core clock, and max core frequency is the maximum available clock frequency. Max can vary depending on how many cores are loaded.

Every modern CPU package has a power limit, the maximum power it is allowed to draw because more could damage the CPU. For i7-8750H this is 45W. Turbo boost allows the CPU to exceed this limit for a brief period after which the CPU harshly drops its frequency (by way of lowering the clock multipliers) in order to bring it below the power limit. This is called power limit throttle. Power limit throttle tanks CPU performance under long-running, CPU-intensive loads.

Lowering the multipliers caps the power consumption below the power limit. This prevents the power limit throttle from engaging. In my case, by lowering the 5/6 core multipliers to 35 I keep the package power draw down to about 42W under full load, or ~3W less than the limit, so my CPU never power limit throttles. While this reduces burst processing performance a little bit it greatly improves performance of long-running processes like games and video encoding because it doesn't throttle. Win!

Thanks for the response! I totally get that and it was really helpful. Now my only question is, what program should I use? Should I just do it in the BIOS? I've seen people recommend either. What did you use?

A new owner of a GS65 here as well and I have a question. How are you guys getting those temps on the stress test? I've undervolted to -0.140 and I'm still hitting 90c. Am I doing something wrong? It seems like no matter what I change I still get that temp. Any help would be appreciated.

Contemplating whether i should buy the GS65 witih 1070 or wait on a gs65 with a 1100 series graphics cards. What do you guys think? Is it worth the wait since more demanding games especially from E3 will be coming out.

I have liquid metal on the CPU and GPU and Fuji thermal pads and that lowers the temp dramatically.

Had anyone installed bios .10D yet? After installing, hwinfo shows I’m throttling and running about 15-20 degrees hotter than I was with .10C. Weird thing is my fire strike score hasn’t changed though. No other settings were changed.

Wait because you cannot afford the thing now. Wait because the thing you have now is good enough. Never wait because a newer, better thing is coming because there is always a newer, better thing coming. Waiting for this reason will only cause you to agonize over your decisions.

That and three bucks will get you a small coffee at Starbucks.

Any chance I can get a shot of your settings? I dropped 5&6 to 35, and left 1,2,3,4 at 41,41,40,40. I even tried 39/39/38/38/35/35 and I am still getting power limit throttling....

Only undervolt or crippled clock speed can help to stop the power Limit throttling. Max power consumption has to be below or equal the chips max 45W TDP. Some chips need more while others need less voltage.

I THINK I just achieved 41/40/35 on CPU and -.225/-.130 on core/cache... Going to play around with undervolt more, that was just first try... Temps under TS Bench hover around 67°C...

My GS 65 also seemed "stuck" at 91%, but after 15-20 minutes it went ahead and successfully completed the update.

I had a poor experience with 1803 on my GS65 and reverted to 1709 where I'll be staying for the foreseeable future. It wasn't unbearable but there's more hitching when doing things like opening up display settings to enable external displays. Clicking menus would sometimes cause hitching - 1709 is back to being smooth and proper.

I also wanted to post up my Cinebench results, I've seen very low results posted around the net and I'm not sure why mine differ. Undervolted -170mv run repeatedly to ensure I'm hitting thermal and power limits my results are consistently higher than 1200.

    https://imgur.com/a/Atkr6hI

At stock voltage there was quite severe throttling both thermal and power limit but most seem to have been resolved with the undervolt.

Thought I'd chime in with some observations (and related questions) after around 2 weeks of ownership of my 8RF.

    1. I initially stated that I was experiencing no palmrest creaking, but after a couple of weeks, the creaking and flex are very evident. The flex doesn't bother me, but the creaking is VERY annoying, especially while working as it's loud enough to creep through my headphones. For people who have managed to resolve this - how complicated is it to replace/fix the packing materials around the battery that are causing this?

    2. I'm running a conservative 90mV undervolt on ThrottleStop while on battery, and getting through around 5.5-6.5 hours of battery at work which includes some Excel, Scrivener, browsing, YouTube and even 30ish minutes of "Papers, Please". Screen brightness is usually around 30% and Bluetooth headphones connected for most of the day. Happy enough with this. Would love to find a way to stretch this to 7+ hours. I imagine I can do that when I'm just writing, with WiFi switched off. PSA: Don't use Dragon Centre's ECO mode. From my experience, it reduces performance to a degree that you feel you're using 5 year old hardware. Scrolling is sluggish, browsers freeze up, and the power savings are meagre.

    3. Many benchmarks/reviews talked of getting 100+ FPS on Overwatch on Epic visual settings, but in the real world, I'm not seeing anything better than 80-90FPS. Getting around 65-80FPS on PUBG with all settings maxed out. Not complaining of course, that's still great performance, but wondering if people are getting higher FPS on stock settings.

Yes, finally thats happen to me also...
Indeed I also deleted the $WINDOWS.~BT folder... and after deleting and reboot, the process update "un-stuck" from 91% reaching 100%... I dont know if correlated.

Now W10 1803 is up and running. :)

I will make some Firestrike test soon...

If this is a 1070 GTX video card, you should be getting FAR north of 120 FPS on all *ULTRA* settings. So Epic for a GTX 1060 is just as simple. That's a no brainer.

My Radeon 290X + i7 2600K gets 100 FPS on some settings at ultra and some at epic, with 1x SMAA low and reflections at medium.

    Greetings everyone,
Can some good person guide me of the advanced BIOS settings, that is nice to be set to achieve better thermals on this laptop?
Or at least give me some nice guide where most of the settings are covered with preferred values.
I updated to 10D BIOS and it is 1070-MQ model. Tried XTU undevolt of -130mv (also works nice with -150).

    Tag me
The tweaking session will take anywhere between 2-4 hours so make sure you have enough time on your hand.

Also, you will need a fast internet connection. I cannot work with a slow connection.

when you receive your laptop, you will be greeted by the Windows 10 Setup Wizard and you will hear Ms. Cortana speaking, when you are prompted to login to your wireless network, do not do that otherwise you will be forced to sign in with a Microsoft Account, instead, click skip on the bottom left and proceed by entering a username for your computer and so forth.

Once you're on your desktop, now you can connect to the internet. Download TeamViewer and install it from this link: https://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/windows/

Then come to the forums and tag me and I'll then send you a private message so we can arrange a time to do the tweaking. All you will need is to run TeamViewer, it will give you a username and ID which you can then pass on to me so I can login to your laptop temporarily to do the tweaks.

these are the tweaks that I do:

1- Uninstallation of all the Windows Store Garbage Apps like 3D Paint, Print 3D, Alarms & Clock, Feedback Hub, Maps, Groove Music, News, Weather, etc.
2- Removing all Windows 10 Privacy Invasion stuff like Telemetry, sending your keystrokes to Microsoft, automatically installing suggested apps in the background, allowing Microsoft to conduct experiments on your laptop, disabling automatic driver updates through Windows updates, disabling Windows 10 ads, disabling Cortana, Cloud Search etc.
3- Removal of nVIDIA and Intel Telemetry
4- Adjusting a lot of options in PC Settings like disabling Windows Tablet Mode (you have a laptop not a tablet), disabling suggestions appearing in the start menu, disabling automatically connecting to Paid WiFi Hotspots, disabling Game DVR which reduced performance in games, and a lot more.
5- Replacing Cortana with a much better search tool that finds results instantly called Everything which finds any file you want as soon as you start typing even a few letters of its name and it doesn't even rely on the Windows Indexing Service to do this!
6- Restoring the classic Windows Photo Viewer
7- Restoring the Classic Windows 7 Start Menu
8- Removal of the new and useless 3D Objects Folder that appears when you open "Computer"
9- Completely disabling Windows Defender from its roots (including all scheduled tasks and startup files) for those who want to install their own AV. ESET NOD32 Antivirus is highly recommended if you want the utmost security with the least system performance impact.
10- Updating all drivers to the latest versions in case they weren't up to date.
11- Disabling the performance hit that is caused by the Meltdown and Spectre patches recently released by Microsoft (optional, only if you don't mind having this security vulnerability and would rather have your CPU's full performance back)
12- Overprovisioning your SSD anywhere between 10-20% depending on how much space you can spare to ensure optimal and consistent performance at all times.
13- Blocking the Google Chrome Software Reporter Tool (which causes a high system load when it is scanning files)
    14- Updating all drivers
15- Creating a system restoration image using Macrium Reflect

When you say you replace Cortana with Everything, are you actually able to make it work as the default search function? So if you open the Start menu and start typing, will it use Everything?

No, the search from the start menu will no longer work if we disable Cortana, BUT, if we use the Classic Start Menu from Windows 7 then you are able to search from within the start menu search for any program.

Everything is not for searching for your programs, it finds any file on your computer with 0 lag or delay unlike the crappy Windows search and doesn't even need the Windows Indexing Service.

If you feel that you do not like any of the tweaks above that I mentioned, then let's not do this and feel free to choose the tweaks that you want and do them yourself by looking at the following threads:

I've actually previously implemented most of the changes you suggested. I'm not the person who initially asked you. I just saw that about Everything and started looking into it. It is very fast, now just to figure out how to make the most of it. Thanks

I noticed my cpu still running @ turbo speed. 4.0 - 4.1 ghz. In Dragon Center profile i see mode set as "current" and Shift Mode - Sport.
On my desktop 4770k the core clock spin down @~0,8 when idling, with SpeedStep.

Is right to replicate this on the Coffe Lake cpu of MSI GS65? I think this can help lowering heat.

    Thank you very much.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-clear-cmos-and-prevent-common-issues.812372/

Most important tweaks are setting IA AC DC Loadline to 1 and 1 in CPU VR Domain/ IA Settings, and if your thermals are up to par, disabling the 45W TDP throttle by setting IMON SLOPE = 50 and IMON OFFSET (-) = 31999. Negative offset NOT positive. This should allow the CPU to draw about 70W of sustained power before being TDP throttled rather than 45W. The AC DC setting prevents the voltage from rising as much as 150mv at full load compared to idle. Not going to help you with these methods, do your own research and take your time and it's at your own risk.

Those stands all look too small...

The Ergostand's should be large enough and give you lots of degree's of angle for viewing placement.

I am a little confused... yestarday I got 3.9 - 4.1 core clock. Today I never hit these values.
I dont understand how the cpu speedstep is working, and how the Dragon Center Shift profile affect the cpu...
