Did you check the Event Log Viewer to see what kind of error was thrown around the time that this happened?

That´s part of the problem, i think i already saw all errors code in this situation
    Memory management
    hadware failure
    power sbrubbles
    driver failure
    critical procces
    etc..

In the last three days i had the following blue screens:
Memory Managemente, Falty Hardware Corrupted Page, System Service Exception And Critical Proccess Died.

The only consistent thing is that it never crashs while i am using it, only when i let it be and get away from keyboard for some time.
That´s why i tryed to turn hibernation off, but it did nothing for the problem.

I have a 3 month old Newegg exclusive 428 8RF model (GTX1070) and when playing games for over 1 hour the video would start to corrupt. Even with Cooler Boost on the video corrupts, losing all red, until I power it off for an hour or so. Then it is fine. I tried the latest driver on MSI website (399.21) and the latest on nVidia. Still the same issue. I am starting to think I have a bad laptop and rather not risk removing the heatpipes and applying some better thermal paste. Figure I would post up there first for suggestions. Thanks

EDIT: It has become far worse, losing all red within minutes of playing a game. I have taken the laptop apart in the past to install a M.2 drive. Perhaps I can check on the headpipes his weekend. Temps for cpu hover around 74 and gpu around 94.

Sounds like either the SSD or RAM to me - try flashing MemTest86 to a USB stick and leave it running overnight to try diagnosing RAM errors. You can use something like CrystalDiskInfo to see if your system drive is throwing any SMART errors.

No idea how hot the 1070 models usually run, but 94C definitely seems excessive, although I guess it depends on what you're running. Is that the max after the one hour of use, or does that get up to that temp and start throttling early on?

Definitely something is wrong with the cooling, GPU temps should never reaches that high (around 70-80C while gaming is usual)

Thanks guys, it seems to be working atm, I'll keep you guys updated if windows reset these settings.

Also does anyone know how to change the location of the desktop folder/recycle bin to my hdd drive instead of my ssd? There's no location tab for the desktop folder

Yeah for some reason lol, there's no location tab. I had to go through the registry to edit it.

If anyone else is having this problem. Regedit is your friend.

I did not want to be one of those that never post an update. I dropped it off at MSI, took them about a week to repair, they had to replace the screen. Of course it is not all perfect as the back of the chassis halves do not meet, obviously the kid that worked on it snapped a few tabs. Oh well. my expectations with tech companies is very low, so nothing surprising.

It's been 2-3 days, and my M.2 Sata drive has written 100gb for some reason. Is this normal? Is there anyway to check if what's causing these writes?

When you delete Dragon center, i heard there's a manipulation to do with the bios or remove the battery... cause it interfer with throttlestop... but i can't remember and find what exactly to do.

I got a friend who install dragon center on his GE73 8RE right out the box, and he would like to use throttlestop for undervolt. Help please

Here's a new one... put the laptop to sleep this morning, unplugged the charger and headphones, and slipped the notebook into my bag. Standard procedure, done it dozens of times. Pulled it out about an hour and a half later, and it's got absolutely nothing going on. Didn't even try to boot when I pressed the power button - no lights, nothing spinning up, nada. Even if it had turned itself back on in the bag somehow, there's no way it would've died in that period of time, between Windows' power management and my throttling settings.

So I take it home during lunch and plug it back in. Turned on immediately, battery still full. Some system-level settings appear to have been reset, as the keyboard lit up in the default red. Dunno what happened, if something tripped trying to prevent a short or overvoltage at some point or what. On most other laptops I've owned, if something like that happened, I would've needed to manually trigger a reset switch or unplug and replug the battery. I've had something similar occur with my last Thinkpad, but only when I've had the back cover off to mess with the SSD or clean the fan; I haven't done any surgery on my GP63 in a couple of months.

Anyone have the same experience, and know what caused it? The vents do allow for quite a bit of potentially conductive material to make direct contact with the motherboard, I guess, but unless I accidentally poked it with a notebook spiral I'm not exactly sure what I did or how to make sure I don't do it a second time.

Hey, I have the exact same issue, around once every two weeks I will wake up the laptop to see just a black screen, after a minute I see the MSI boot logo and the system starts up basically from scratch, and yes my keyboard settings revert to almost factory defaults (out of 5 keyboard LED profiles some are left untouched while others return to red). It's highly annoying and I always have to correct my dragon center keyboard profiles then restart the machine fully because it feels laggy as hell.

Since tweaking windows update to back off I've noticed this happening less often, but it still happens. If you set your internet connection as on a data plan (not unlimited data usage per month) windows updates apparently stop/become less aggressive. Hope I helped.

Hi there people i will be kinda direct with what i have to say
    i have Msi GP63 leopard 8re with GTX 1060

i managed to get 1220-1270 ,max 1280 cinebench r15 score undervolting with with throttlestop ,and TS bench of 5.9 sec for 64mb and 24 sec for 256 mb max temp 80 for 3 cores and 85 for the other 3

does any1 know if there is possible to undervolt with bios, because i am a newbie to how bios work dont understand how cmos works ( why is like he keeps only the configuration settings that the "cmos" thinks is good, tryed different settings with no different results) and how bios works ( tryed to undervolt by bios but doesnt work like throttlestop it undervolts too much of what i imput and changing the value does not affect it , is like it remains at the first value put there doesnt matter how many times i change it and f10 it, and some features purely doesnt work if i make the active in bios - unlocked by alt+ctrl+shift+f2 )

from what i saw some settings persist in throttlestop or dragon center 2 even if i reinstall and fully format the ssd where i installed the OS
i dont get it if there is some kind of memory that keeps the "user configuration" somewhere , reinstalled the OS many times because i tryed alot of different settings to get more performance but something is glitchy and i cannot manage to find it.

another thing does any1 know what Test Fuction 1 is in bios ? ( tryed to fiend a detailed "guide" for bios for msi but failed on this.

If you got the pop sound from the hinge, do you also feel any difference from opening/closing the lid? If yes, then something's broken in there (plastic). Best to contact MSI support to get this issue resolved while it's under warranty.

I've noticed just now after 8 months that some of the screws are missing from the bottom lid
    These are some photos
    IMG-20190428-WA0003.jpg
    IMG-20190428-WA0002.jpg
Now, probably that could be a cause for the broken hinge.
What type of screws are used in this any idea?
    And
What should I do as of now regarding this unit?

Those are not related to hinges because the hinge is secured onto the corner of the rear. However, over-tightening the screws can cause the base to break as the base mount is made of both plastic and brass nut. This usually requires a replacement of the entire panel (where base mount is located).

    I meant missing as in,
There weren't any screws on those two positions from the very beginning(from day 1) rather than having them go missing.

    I bought it New,
The lid wasn't loose from any place at all,
So i thought that it was just a design quirk,
Until the hinge problem came to light and I saw and analysed the screws in the teardown video.

I see, in this case still proceed with MSI tech support and have them take the system in for repair while it's under warranty. Sucks that it happened to you when it's not even supposed to but it did.

Does the hinge reliability on this model seem better than previous models, or should I look into loosening the hinge stiffness now before it's too late?

They should be about the same in terms of quality, however it's best to open any lid from the center instead of either corner to prolong its life expectancy.
If you start to feel a loose hinge like warbling then that's a sign of it wearing out.

I guess I'm not as concerned about the hinge itself wearing out (becoming wobbly), but more about the durability of the posts that the hinges are screwed into on the bezel. Apparently the posts are plastic, and because the hinges are so tight, the torque required to open the lid can over time cause the hinge to get ripped off of the bezel.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-raider-laptops.806824/page-143#post-10715436

Apparently this is a known issue with MSI laptops that I wasn't aware of, and I would like to prevent it if possible. If anyone has any experience with this, I would appreciate any information you have.

    @wizardbrony
Yeah you should make them loose...
It's an issue, one day my hinges were good but then i didn't touch it for 3-4 days
Then the hinge became loose with popping sound,
But as it was in warranty, I sorted it out via service centre.

I went through the same thought process but realized that it was not necessary. Be gentle, and always open the lid with your fingers right at the middle of it. Never ever open or move it holding the corners. Then no problems.

( My apologies for post a question here but my model MSI GE73 8RF and forum here, is a bit desert... since the chasis is the same )

I searching info about our MSI notebook about the battery while gaming, or demanding task. I got good temps on cpu and gpu, with undervolt, the keybord is not hot while gaming but the hottest part of the deck is between the screen and the keyboard, above the battery placement in the chassis.

Does our pc, using battery power while gaming ? Is it safe for the AC power to remove the battery ?

I would like to know if we can remove the battery safely or if there's a way to "switch off" the battery if it's safe.

    Above Battery.jpg Batterie.jpg

Edit : I found on reddit, someone talking about it here : https://www.reddit.com/r/MSILaptops/comments/3yhp24/question_about_ge72s_battery_while_gaming/ and here : https://www.msi.com/faq/nb-684.html

    Hi,

I have very high temps on my CPU while playing games.
I have not found a solution for this problem in 6 months

Ichange paste on my laptop with an IC diamond

    Will a cooling pad help?
What cooling pads do you use (my laptop model is gp73)?

If I undervolt, will this affect my laptop performance?
Will undervolt affect the processor lifespan?
What will be the best settings for undervolt?

Every CPU has different undervolt settings. I use the app ThrottleStop to undervolt.

Yes... You need to use MSI AfterBurner app.... By undervolting your dGPU(NVIDIA) correctly, it will run cooler and also help reduce the CPU temp due to the shared heatpipe.

The iGPU(integrated into CPU chip) can also be undervolted but i dont bother with it, i didnt notice any diff...

I've noticed the common stages ppl normally go through to reduce temps.

    Using ThrottleStop,

    1. Undervolt CPU, iGPU, System Agent etc... basically its the CPU
    2. Undervolt dGPU (NVIDIA)
    3. Then if they are still unsatisfied, repaste (normal paste or liquid metal)
    4. Start mucking around with ThrottleStop's Turbo Ratio Limits, reducing it....

Step 3 and 4 is interchangeable.

My question is, at stage 4, isn't it better to lower the IccMax settings rather that mucking around with Turbo Ratio Limits to lower temps?

    Hello,

    Newbie here.

I am not sure for core clock.

-125 will give lower temps and it will not affect performance ?
if we go more down, like -300, we will get better temps but performance will be worse?

Why intel did not put all processors on -125?

    Thank you!!

Just change the core and cache voltage settings...make it equal for simplicity. No it will not affect performance.. If its too low... then it becomes unstable... thats abt it... i've never had any performance problem coz its too low... could never go below -180mv btw. The lower you go, the cooler it becomes, too low and it blue screens or hangs on u
