There are a couple guides on the web, theverge is simple to follow the Lenovo Synaptics workaround and activate the precision touchpad settings. The link is in the post above. That's cool you found the part on ebay already. This laptop will be fun to maintain and tinker with.
Just found this cool program that will create neat LED patterns for our 3 zones. The 1st box to set right off the bat is Background Mode: Original, you work your way down the choices from there to rainbow, color wheel 2 and beyond to see the color transitions. I like background mode: Color wheel 2 and Animation set to 35.
https://github.com/CalcProgrammer1/KeyboardVisualizer
Update: KeyboardVisualizer is meant to be run in the system tray where you click that icon to maximize or hide it. Don't pin it to the taskbar as starting up two of them by accident will cause the LED flickering.
Steps to setup:
Note of warning: when changing any settings hitting Enter or closing the window will kill the program. Just double click the system tray icon to minimize and hide the program. Click it again to use.
- Download the executable from github's releases folder
- Hit Win Key and R on keyboard. Then type shell:startup
- Right click new -> create shortcut inside Startup folder
- Browse to the path of KeyboardVisualizer exe -> Next and finish making shortcut
- Right click properties over new shortcut, in target section add startminimized flag "C:\path\KeyboardVisualizerVC 3.06.exe" startminimized
- Reboot. The keyboardvisualizer will be in system tray, click to change / save settings.

Thanks Le Quan. Maybe the touchpad has a bad ground, it's capacitive touch as the pad and chassis are one whole.
So what external mouses are people using these days for both work and play? I was thinking of getting a SteelSeries Mouse to match the keyboard LED lighting. I am budget minded these days so nothing too fancy. -

If I was going to buy a mouse now, I would choose something from SteelSeries as you don't need to install a separate driver for it, it's the same driver as the SteelSeries Keyboard one suite for all.
Get the SteelSeries Rival 110 Gaming Mouse if you want something cheap but good

And working with blueprints and CAD/3d models the fast speed from high dpi can be actually bad for me. This is my daily driver for the last year an a half, and i love it:

I am looking for some video that shows the keyboardvisualizer you showed us, have you come accros anything like that? I am pretending to myself that i don´t install any software just to see what it does. lol -
Thanks I made a quick run to Walmart which had the Rival 310 in stock over the 110. I'm testing it out atm. It has a nice texture / rubbery grip that feels good in the hand. PrismSync works well in the SteelSeries Engine to keep the color patterns together between mouse and keyboard lighting. You can change the wheel color separate from the logo in case people wondered. On the downside I don't see a way to reduce its brightness in the steelseries engine 3 so it dominates over the keyboard a little.
That Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum looks slick! I like how you can swap the buttons out for right or left hand and the wireless lasts 32hours on a single charge. I also like that there is a light indicator to show which rates are active. It's about $90 on amazon atm. Maybe there is a steelseries equivalent. I know it will probably cost more. LoL!
I see some mouse like the G900 include a tilt wheel. What are there any pros and cons? Can I use it for 3d software / day to day stuff too?Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

Guys, does anyone tried a clean install with windows 10 without deleting the recovery folders/partition?
If so, Do any of you know how much space that ends up taking? I am all out of space in my NVMe, i don´t really need anymore, but it is lacking the 20%-25% everyone says i should spare to increase SSD's lifetime. -
I know there is a FAQ / Knowledge Base topic with a MSI video showing all the possible ways you can do it. They go as far as using BurnRecovery or from USB Stick / and from DOS using F3. If I find the article again I'll update this post.Leandro Lopes likes this. -
I started undervolting my system's CPU last night. In my testing I was able to hit 1277 on CineBench using ThrottleStop 8.70.
Most of my changes focused in the FIVR sections. I didn't touch the other areas with the exception of TPL to enable SpeedShift on throttlestop's start up and raised the Turbo Time Limit to 40. The default was 28 if I recall correctly. I don't know if changing those setting make any difference or increase risk?
I was able to maintain steady boost of Speed Shift - EPP unchecked, or checked and set to 0 to get my cinebench to 1277 with all cores floored around 4Ghz. I may have plateaued.
Note if I set Speed Shift - EPP to 128 which was the mid point of speed stepping. I maintain my bench of 1277 with low temps and low fan usage.
Do you guys think that this is going to be my best numbers for anti-throttling? I haven't touched the other areas of ThrottleStop or use other tools in my tests. Basically what should I focus on next? -
Hi there, I own a MSI GE73 8rf with cpu 8750H GTX 1070, 2x8GB Ram, since 10 days and try to makes my pc better since i got it. Fresh install, came without OS, tweaking windows, no Dragon center, only steel series, Bios And EC firmware updated from msi.
I'm confused, tried to undervolt with TS and got weird result, sometimes was good, sometimes was bad. Couldn't fighure it out, someone on this forum said not all Throttlestop options or tweaks wotks with this chips, so trying to understand it, and gave up.
I start with XTU, but got Power limit throttling, but my temps good. So i've search more and find this :
1 - [Guide] How to take full control of the i7-8750H (Advanced version)
What 's the difference between those ''tweaks'' ?
If they have the same results or goal, what is the best, safer way to avoid this throttling. Thx for your help, and sry if i didn't post on this right lounge and for my bad english, not native language.
Edit : On this test, how can i got a TDP at 61 ? i didn't unlock the bios for now or something else.

Hello. I am interested in buying GP63, but I am wondering how fragile this laptop is. As I understand it, pretty much every casing components is plastic. Being said that, some plastic materials are stronger than thin metal. I have seen some comments about this laptop is somewhat fragile. How bad is it for normal use? I am not planning to take it to airplane so many times but it will involve some long travels, of course, relatively frequent trips to work also.
Since most of you have had this laptop for a while, I would like to hear from actual users who used it.
Thank you so much. -

Thank you so much for your reply. I pulled the trigger on this laptop. The price/spec ratio is too good. I don't necessarily mind the weight since I carried Clevo P650HS-G for a while. As far as I can tell, GP63 is about the same weight with a brick. As long as it can take normal use, I am ok with it. I can't weight to tinker with it. -
Hey guys just a quick question. I have purchased the gp63 428 edition from newegg and was wondering if the laptop could support a high impiedence headphones? Looking into buying a 150/250 ohm headphones.
-
Guys, dis anyone investigated about display of GP63 (both 8RD and 8RE series)? Modification with GTX 1050Ti comes with IPS-level screen and I wonder what is the coverage of sRGB/aRGB and accuracy of the colors. Unfortunately notebookcheck reviewed only TN modifications which are not for me fo sure. I need laptop for photo/video editing and wonder if this one will be right option for me or the screen isn't really good in terms of color accuracy and reproduction.

what i've done so far (per Falkentyne advise):
C states: DISABLED
IA AC Loadline ---> 1
IA DC Loadline----> 1
CPU VR Current Limit --> 600
IMON SLOPE--> 50
IMON OFFSET --> - 31999 (negative, NOT positive)
Change the sign to -
TDC -> disabled and "0" below that.
in ThrottleStop
core and cache both at -75 (anything lower will BSOD and reboot)
MSI Dragon center highest shift mode, and windows power plan at high power, and windows has all updates
I can get 1245-ish in cinebench multi on the first run after letting it idle, but repeated cinebench multi, on the 2nd or 3rd run it will drop to about 1150ish, and then gets little bit lower as repeated, and is thermal throttled (note, stock gp63 i get about 1170ish cinebench multi on first run, and then goes to 1100ish on subsequent runs and is power throttled)
and the bone stock Lenovo Y7000 can run repeated cinebench multi and maintain 1250ish score
Also, as a reference, to generate full previews of 73 photos taken by a Nikon D850 in Adobe Lightroom, Y7000 takes 2min14sec, and my tweaked GP63 takes anywhere 12-20 second longer (stock gp63 can be anywhere 30sec to 45sec longer)
Please advise, TIA -

Looks like the stock thermal paste and thermal pads aren't applied that well.....? Also check your fan curve.
For the tdp i have bumped the pl1 to 55watts and pl2 to 80watts.
Then I undervolted more aggressively to offset above which puts me above 1260+. I have noticed windows/intel updates lower my cinebench r15 multicore scores though.
I'm perplexed at the lenovo y7000 scoring so high given the limit air intake and air output (compared to msi's). Maybe they have pushed bios for it to run hotter for longer. The MSI gp73 I have stays sound of 65 degrees after multiple cinebench r15 runs. -
-

First make sure you them set in the bios (hidden and can't share shortcut publicly). Then you can set this in Throttlestop and they instantly apply.
-
I have unlocked my bios, please tell me where in the bios to set them! -
undervolter0x0309 Notebook Evangelist
8750h is locked, that’s why adding tdp gets closer to 3.9ghz but never over. So by combining higher tdp with undervolting you close that gap.
Careful with setting 70+ watts without undervolting.
The mods can be made under cpu performance. I forget but you should see Nominal and pl1, time and pl2 settings. -
also, could you comment on why if I undervolt anything lower than -75mv on core and cache, i get BSOD? is this just a bad luck of the draw sample?
thanks again! -
undervolter0x0309 Notebook Evangelist
Imon slope is only if your software checks watts to throttle. I didn t notice that as my perf remade the same even when I made that modification.
I skip it since it didn’t help me personally.
Probably also cause my msi gp73 is already maxing out the 8750h as it runs very cool -
Is there any other settings I could try to squeeze the GP63 pass the Y7000? -
Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
Uninstall dragon center, reboot, then go into Core I/A VR settings and set TDC enable to disabled and set TDC limit to 0.
Set VR Current Limit to 800. -
What does is do ''C states disable'' ?

@Leandro Lopes @TomoPrime @Ultra Male
I was able to RMA laptop back to NewEgg for full refund. I did give it a spin first - seemed a bit loud, two keys not lit .. but still confirmed that I wanted that model.
Ordered custom GP63 8RE-602 from Donald at HIDevolution (he was awesome).
Now, waiting patiently for it to arrive - hopefully here before Christmas. Who am I kidding?! I'm not patient at all. I want it now lol!

Let me know when you get it if you want me to help you tweak it. These are the Ultra Male Tweaks:
1- Uninstallation of all the Windows Store Garbage Apps like 3D Paint, Print 3D, Alarms & Clock, Feedback Hub, Maps, Groove Music, News, Weather, etc.
2- Removing all Windows 10 Privacy Invasion stuff like Telemetry, collecting your activities that you do on your computer, sending your keystrokes to Microsoft, automatically installing suggested apps in the background, allowing Microsoft to conduct experiments on your laptop, disabling automatic driver updates through Windows updates, disabling Windows 10 ads, disabling Cortana, Cloud Search etc.
3- Disabling Microsoft Edge from starting up automatically in the background upon reboot.
4- Adjusting a lot of options in PC Settings like disabling Windows Tablet Mode (you have a laptop not a tablet), disabling suggestions appearing in the start menu, disabling automatically connecting to Paid WiFi Hotspots, disabling Game DVR which reduced performance in games, and a lot more.
5- Replacing Cortana with a much better search tool that finds results instantly called Everything which finds any file you want as soon as you start typing even a few letters of its name and it doesn't even rely on the Windows Indexing Service to do this!
6- Restoring the Classic Windows Photo Viewer from Windows 7
7- Restoring the Classic Windows 7 Start Menu
8- Restoring the Classic Calculator from Windows 7
9- Removal of the new and useless 3D Objects Folder that appears when you open "Computer"
10- Completely disabling Windows Defender from its roots (including all scheduled tasks and startup files) for those who want to install their own AV. ESET NOD32 Antivirus is highly recommended if you want the utmost security with the least system performance impact.
11- Updating all drivers to the latest versions in case they weren't up to date.
12- Disabling the performance hit that is caused by the Meltdown and Spectre patches recently released by Microsoft (optional, only if you don't mind having this security vulnerability and would rather have your CPU's full performance back)
13- Overprovisioning your SSD anywhere between 10-20% depending on how much space you can spare to ensure optimal and consistent performance at all times.
14- Blocking the Google Chrome Software Reporter Tool (which causes a high system load when it is scanning files)
15- Preventing Microsoft Edge from running on startup in the background
16- Restoring the missing default power plans in Windows 10 (ie. High performance, Power saver, and adding the new Ultimate Performance Plan)
17- Creating a system restoration image so that you can restore your computer the way it was after I have tweaked it within a few minutes easily!

Is there a way to lower the refresh rate? I can only set it to 120 Hz

Don't use the Nvidia CP. Some games don't like GPU scaled resolutions (NVCP only creates GPU scaled resolutions; Dark Souls 1 will crash hard if you try using 60hz from NVCP, but works perfectly with ToastyX EDID override method.raz8020 and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
@Falkentyne I got the unlock bios with the settings you gave me ( IMON Slope 50 / Imon offset -31999 ) does it stacks with the TPL board "Turbo Boost Power Max 45 / Turbo Boost short power Max 70 ?
Does the Imon tricks on the cpu Add up on the Pkg power ?Last edited: Dec 21, 2018 -

You could probably even try Imon slope 10, but I found it stops scaling on *my* system at 50. Others have been able to set it so low the CPU reports its using 5 watts -
It was a typing error (-31999) sry.

Can i have the modded bios please?
Thanks

Just purchased a MSI GP63 Leopard 8RE-602 15.6" w/ nVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 from Donald at HID. Very helpful and knowledgeable guy. Great service so far! Now the waiting is the hardest part.

Mine is "In production" now, so hopefully not too much longer. It was "Pre-production" since the 14th. I'm sure they are swamped this time of year. It'll be worth the wait.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

I returned my laptop to NewEgg. Just waiting on the credit back to card before rolling the dice again. It's a shame really if my touchpad wasn't garbage I had a pretty solid machine otherwise scored 1277 on CB.

If USA, then ask your vendor to get involved. MSI USA HQ will jump on it for you to get the proper resolution. -

Brazil is one of the countries that does not offer warranty for systems purchased from outside. The other one is Australia.
Reason being the custom taxes is heavy that's why electronic goods cost way more in Brazil than other countries.
MSI is not alone with this kind of issues. So your best is to be polite and inform them that you are willing to pay for repair and have that office to order the parts for you. Perhaps you have a higher chance to get it repaired locally, rather than having to ship the unit to someone that you know that lives in the region same as where your notebook came from (international shipping), then in addition, your friend/relative has to ship MSI's regional office, etc.
This is the part that are written in the limited warranty - US version.
https://us.msi.com/page/warranty-condition
Chapter 2:Global Travel Performance Assurance (The warranty just for MSI Notebook only )
2.1 Meaning of the global travel performance assurance
The global travel performance assurance is a multinational professional service available for apply by the customer that purchases the MSI product. Entitlement to the global travel performance assurance means that you may receive the Product's technical support service at the global travel performance assurance service centers designated by MSI worldwide, or else you may only seek technical support and post-sales service from the customer service center in the country where you purchase the Product.
2.2 Applicable scope of the global travel performance assurance
Within the warranty time-limit and with normal use according to the instruction manual, the customer that incurs the following hardware function breakdowns is entitled to free maintenance (including maintenance service and replacement of parts):
Product body, exclude other component and adjunct
The global travel performance assurance is applicable only when you send the Product to an MSI-authorized "Global travel performance assurance" service center not in the country of original purchase. If you travel to an area without MSI global service centers, you may send the Product to the global service center closest to you (sender responsible to and from shipping charges). -
Picked up my laptop today! It looks awesome! Ready to tweak Windows 10.
@Ultra Male are you still willing to lend a hand in setting it up?
As of right now, I did let Windows finish installing but I did not let it connect to network/internet.
Also denied requests for voice crap and ad/location tracking. That's as far as I've made it..
