Hmm, not sure what to think. In the MSI Dragon Center I've got it set to performance but in World of Warplanes I can get down to low 30's and the machine doesn't seem to be running very hot. Any ideas?

Very nice result :) You think it has much more headroom available to push more?
Any idea how long the battery life is for productivity tasks?

This happened to me also. Turns out its actually working fine but the keyboard brightness was turned all the way down which can happen automatically when on battery. To solve it just hold the Fn button and press the - button on the num pad several times. If you try the preset key again it will work.

    Fantastic score!

Hows the temps at gaming and idle? Hows the fan noise at gaming and idle?

Is yours stock or LM and fujipoly pads?

Even though he overclocked during idle most likely the temps will still stay the same. He needs to put a load on it. What you can try doing is monitor the temps during firestrike and see maybe if the temps are same with overclock and with out it.

Does the trackpad on this use multigestures? As many as the GS75? Doesn't look like a glass pad.

Those temps, so jealous, LM definitely does its job. You can unlock power limit in BIOS and let the i7 running at 3.9ghz all the time if you need all the processing power given your thermal headroom. Also, I believe the CPU only registers the higher value between core and cache undervolt (these 2 value usually goes together, same value), so currently you only have effectively -650mV on both cache and core

    Notebookchecks says RTX 2080 + i9 9700K got 24000 graphics in firestrikes and you get a whooping 28000, that's strange https://www.notebookcheck.net/Nvidi...-Laptop-GPUs-Performance-Review.401266.0.html

So, it looks like GE75 has better CPU thermals and cooling system than GS75?

Most definitely. Thin and lights can't match full sized laptops when it comes to cooling. That's why th GE75 has a full 2080 while the GS75 uses a 2080 max-q.

The GE75 you ordered, is it repasted or it's a stock one?

I concur. Just 5 years ago "full sized" laptops were significantly bulkier than what we have today. The slimmed bezels help to reduce the size of the laptop noticeably too.

Its a real pity MSI doesn't cram a 90+ Whr battery into the GE75. Then it'll be perfect for those who need longer battery life for on the go productivity tasks and don't mind trading some portability for extra performance.

Sadly at the moment, its either the GS series for long battery life or the GE series for performance.

I agree I would sacrifice a smaller battery for more performance, otherwise you shouldn't be looking for a laptop like this if you want long lasting battery

I still can’t compare benchmark results of GE75 and GS75. Maybe you did it?

Still can’t decide which to buy because has no proofs of GS75 weakness. New GS65 RTX users from neighbor topic says about fantastic thermals and no throttling. Maybe MSI really improve GS cooling system and it's CPU/GPU can work on GE speed clocks?

    CPU yes. GPU no.

The 2080 max-q is tdp limited to 80w while the normal 2080 is given 150+w. So unless you do a vBios and EC mod on the 2080 max-q it is highly unlikely that you will be able to reach normal 2080 clocks even if you have lots of thermal headroom.

However, it MAY be possible to overclock the 2080 max-q to near stock 2080 levels.

I am getting around 5 hours now while web browsing on 1/3 brightness, that is I think more than enough on a fully equipped gaming laptop with 17" screen.

So I finally got a game downloaded, seeing temps in the low 80's after an hour of gaming on ultra with an OC on the GPU +50 core / +1000 mem and a -70mv undervolt on the CPU. That was on BFV ray tracing off.

EDIT** Actually the undervolt was not applied lol. BFV should be completely done downloading tomorrow and I will test multiplayer and maybe record my results.

GS65 (from the review) reaches 75C on CPU and 67C on GPU with undervolting + custom fan curve (which is around 90-100% speed at 75C) + laptop stand. While GE75 from Derek got max temp below 60C after a cinebench run (probably on max fan) with undervolting. It would be appreciated if @drek20 can give us more on temp while gaming, but thermal comparison should be pretty accurate given both laptop has been repasted with LM + added thermal pads.

In short, GE proves to be much better at thermal management (CPU wise) but both laptop already perform at a great temperature.

Gaming at 1080p is a breeze for RTX series, at least for now. So you won't notice a big difference between max Q and regular 2080. However, if you want to run at lower fan speed, or can't get LM repasted on your laptop, GE75 might be a better choice given its better thermal headroom. Otherwise GS series has better battery life and more portable.

What's your fan setting? YouTube review shows the GE75's CPU hovering around 70C in BF5 w ray tracing.
