After much deliberation I've finally made my purchase of this machine through HIDevolution as well. My first custom gaming laptop. Looking forward to the end result!

Yes, my cpu temps went down around 6-7 degrees while under stress.

Yeah undervolting the CPU can make a big difference specially under stress. Mobile CPUs often come with a lot of voltage that just generates waste heat and throttles you. For best results, a lower voltage +proper paste is needed but even on stock paste, undervolting is basically a must.

So I watched the video by BOAT, and it seems that throttle stop has to always be on in order to undervolt the CPU. Is there a way to make it stick without having a program running in the background? I think I remember some kind of intel program that also helped with undervolting, but I don't know if that one you have to always run as well.

I understand that he sets it to turn on when windows starts and does everything unattended, but the program still has to run in the background.

To be honest I think throttle stop needs to be running to force those settings on the cpu

Hmmm technically the only other way would be for force the offset via BIOS, and that would last a while until you reset bios or update it.

Aside from throttlestop, there is also intel XTU but it also technically runs on the background.

Unfortunately most laptops could not be undervolted from the UEFI/Bios thats why we rely on software like intel xtu or throttlestop. I keep throttle stop on to force the undervolting settings

So what I want can only be done if BIOS supports it, ok thanks.

And yes the other program I was thinking of was XTU (i think)

This RTX2080 inside is a beast. In 3D mark TimeSpy test I have 10300 graphics points with +150MHz on core (9750 default) and that is 1080ti territory in a 2.6kg laptop, nice. The only downside is that they put only one 16GB stick of RAM there, so its running in single-channel only now.

Pretty good result. I did notice that Timespy did showcase a large lead over GTX1080. My score was 7700 and you are close to 3k points high, that's a 33% increase in performance.

Playing shadow of the tomb raider I was able to get 90-110 FPS on the highest settings (rtx 2080).

My unit has optimus, I would expect all of them do

1- there were no thermal throttling and CPU kept boost at 3.9 ghz
2- GPU temp were amazing mostly 70 degrees. Occasionally hit
3- CPU average 80-85 undervolted. If I cap the boost to 3.6 temps will stay around 75

Battlefield V ultra settings with highest Ray tracing I was able to play with mostly stable 60 fps with minimal dips. With ray tracing off around 100-120 fps

65W battery? They could have easily fit a 80w+ battery in this. Why gimp its battery life that badly?

The battery barely fits in the laptop as it is. If they were to increase the battery then either the laptop would become thicker in size or the cooling components would get smaller resulting in more throttling. In my opinion I think its better off in having a smaller battery and using that extra room for cooling.

Probably no one. It is more about being able to use the laptop portably and for work/coffee shop mobility where you could just use optimus with much longer battery life for productivity. Could have easily removed the platter drive (use nvme/ssd) and redesigned the front part to reduce all that extra plastic from where the speakers are using all that extra space to expand the battery to more usable size.
