Did you mod any BIOS settings or flash the newest FW update for the card? Have you applied liquid metal to CPU/GPU that would cause a short? I'm not saying you did anything wrong, that's just not usually the type of defect that would pass QC before shipping.

Yes it has latest firmware. No i did not ever touch the heatsink. I took pictures and video to prove it too. It was not doing it when it was new. It doesnt even do it benchmarking only when playing demanding games. It may have something to do with whatever controls boost clocks when cpu and gpu are at full loads.
-
Interesting. I hope your RMA process goes smooth, you certainly didn't have it for long. Who did you order it through?

Newegg Canada. Ya its only a few months old

If you look at the 20 to 30 second mark on the video you will see it spike. At the end around 11:46 mark it spikes over 200w. It seems stable during actual play just during intermission it will spike. I have a desktop 3060ti with same core chip and it never does that.Last edited: Oct 19, 2021 -

COD is retarded an penalizes PC players. So many times unfair things happen. Today I threw a grenade that landed a few inches from an enemys claymore and it didnt set off the claymore but did major damage to me and then the claymore went off and i died. The RPG7 is now useless for me as unless i get a direct hit on an enemy they never die any more. Plus the time to switch and pull the trigger is absolutely insane long. I can be fireire my machinegun and switcxh to rocket without moving and it does no damage to enemy. If I am too close I will die though. I am going to ry a new mouse because when I zoom in on distant enemy using combat optic If I moce my mouse a smidge it puts the reticule an inch away. If I slow down the mouse speed then I can turn during regular play. Every time they update the nerf a gun I finally start getting kills with. I try moving a lot like u suggest and it doesnt help at all. By the time I aquire the enemy I am already dead. I am not terrible aim but it seems like that console aim assist is too powerful.

I have video I recorded today showing how far off where the aim point is compared to where i have to aim to make a kill. Thats absolute insanity. Who can play like that? WTF am I supposed to guess where I am supposed to shoot? This game is so infuriating I think I am going to have to quit. I am getting so frustrated I am smashing my mouse and pounding my fist on my desk out of frustration. So many terrible things happening like I throw a stun grenade and it bounces off a the corner of a building right back at me so I am 100% stunned and I get killed. WTF but my rockets hitting right at the feet of enemy do didly squat., Its just outrageous stupid.,
-
Well thats it i smashed a perfectly good mouse today so i uninstalled the game for good. On to new adventures. The latency in some matches was parhetic. I pull the trigger and my gun never fires. Not sure if i am being punished or what but i am officially done. Fack you COD.

Does anyone have an issue when you connect to an external monitor via HDMI? Every game and even chrome stutters like crazy. I'm getting 200 FPS in MW but it feels and looks like it's 20 fps. I'm using discrete graphics mode and tried with the laptop screen off as well. Drivers and BIOS all up to date.
When unplugging the external monitor everything is fine.
EDIT: scratch that about the FPS. in RDR2 the fps tanks to 20-25 fps on extenal monitor while i get 80 fps on the laptop monitor. what's going on? does anyone else use an external monitor on their ge76 and have this problem?Last edited: Oct 22, 2021 -

Can you use a USB C to HDMI? I think you have to have the Intel GPU turned on to use the USB C port though. Not that it makes a huge difference for basic gaming.

What you guys make of this? They received the laptop Monday afternoon and the first i heard anything this morning because i was starting to panik if they actually received it, i log in to the rma site and they just accepted it. Now a few hours later uts shipped out again?

I had a Asus laptop with Ryzen and RTX3060 and Windblows would update a driver for the AMD chipset and then Vulcan games would just bllack screen until you did a drtiver reinstallation. Annoying as heck. One reason I dont won that laptop any more.
-
They replaced the motherboard which is good. They left a wire off the wifi card and the outside looks like it was sprayed with something but i cant see any scratches yet.
-
Well it appears its still doing it. They definatly changed the mobo, whether its new or refurb i dont know. Could this be a symptom of a defective power supply? It hit 180 and 170watt max playing Doom Eternal. It doesnt seem to do it unless its a very demanding game. Benchmarking doesnt do it. It has hit 210 and 190watt before the mobo swap. The maxhine runs great other than this issue
-
Just my 2 cents. If temps and performance ware good I would just enjoy the laptop.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
A tech with MSI has the same laptop and he even loaded COD and played for a while and even made a video and his wouldnt go over 140w. We were using the same drivers and i even did a clean install of windows with all msi drivers and mine still did it.
-
I adjusted the report rate to .1 second and the high spikes only occur for a single frame and then go back to normal. I dont see anything else odd happening during the events.
-
Smoke_Skull At this point i would just run your laptop and enjoy it, i would not worry about.. if I were to guess, I would think it could be one of two things, possibly your power supply brick or just a funky anomaly in the your monitoring software.

I have a new desktop with 3060ti and its rock stable power draw. It matches what its supposed to be drawing. The scenario is the same as before the new motherboard. It stats of normal power draw and then starts getting higher and higher. It alrady up to close to 200watt on both the board and gpu power draw which just is not right. Nobody else seems to be able to duplicate this so there has to be something going on. I think a different power supply is the easist most logical thingbto test next unless someone else has a suggestion. I try playing Doom 3 and power levels remain normal. Only new demanding games seem to trigger this event. Honestly i spent my career as an auto technician solving weird problems so it just built into me to solve this mystery.
-
I found by reducing the polling rate on GPU-Z has calmed it down. Although so far it is only slightly exceeeding the 145W threshold I have seen no more crazy spikes which is a good thing. I just cant believe nobody else is seeing this issue.

Let me know please -what is your(our) SSD model? And may be timings for DDR4 RAM from CPU-Z?sk3tch likes this. -
Mine has a Phison SSD. Performs ok. Wish it was an OEM Samsung 980 Pro though. Also can you guys install GPU-Z and monitor the max GPU board and chip power draws please. It only seems to do it during COD Modern Warfare multiplayer and Doom Eternal play with settings max.

ps. seems OEM 980 pro was supplied only for i9 models "VIP stuff"
but I hope better then for 3060 models Costco with Kinston slowest one without DRAM cache 3Gen.Last edited: Nov 4, 2021 -

Windows 11 is a free upgrade that pretty much all computers that have windows 10 and qualifies from a hardware requirements standpoint, including having TPM security chip.
I wouldn't expect anything other than a power brick and power cord for the brick accessory wise.
The mfg. Price at Costco is 2299 with a temporary 300 instant rebate. When I saw this came out I felt really good that I got my GE76 with 3060 at the price I paid (1299). I upgraded the ram with 2 16 Gig sticks for 115.00, and got A new SS 980 pro for 150.00 at BB with the sale they were having and a bunch of rewards points I had saved up. -
3060 6Gb->3070 8Gb and faster timing RAM upgrade 16->32GB and better SSD and better screen Color Gamut with faster response = yes less ratio for a buck in comparison 3060 configuration but still worth it for next 5 years.tamanaco likes this. -
