So, just got one with 3060 and two things catch my attention right out of the box: Only left fan is audible when idling on desktop (both work when gaming) and MSI true color won't start at all. Anybody knows what's up with that? Thanks.

Honestly I would uninstall MSI true color. With the screens we have the software reduces the available brightness a little bit. And believe me you need every bit of brightness you can get.

I love this thing. Fast, quiet and beautiful.
Awesome screen with the best speakers i've ever had on a lappy.
Only things that MSI could really improve on would be :G-Sync, better and more user friendly software, a bit brighter screen/keyboard backlight.
Maybe next year or two, MSI?
    I'll see you then.

I'll be departing soon, ladies and gents. Going with a Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 6 - 11800H / 3080 - only $200 more than the Costco price for the 11800 H / 3070. Granted - 16" versus 17" and 165Hz versus 360Hz - but a brighter, higher resolution screen and an overall lighter laptop plus the 3080..can't beat it. I used "LEGIONDEALS20" to get 20% off the price (also $100 off one time coupon for signing up for their email list). Only bummer is the quoted 2+ month wait - but we will see.

Why does it say 3060 in the title there?

config with 3060 is quite big cheapy limited screen and True color is no sense to use with.
    No wonder it doesn't work.
Screen is really so so, but price-power is just great.

About fans - No load for GPU till 50C approx.=no fan working. no big surprise for user sk3tch.

sure it all matters who is ready to pay+250$ with taxes with awaiting for 2 months - but then will be Intel 12th generation soon again?!
with Costco you could in 3 months exchange it.
Your config = HDR is better, thermal are so so from reviews, screen is good but 2k on smaller 16 .... who will see the difference?! Lighter is worse chassis for gaming < cos thermal again, so MINUS.
And again price higher but yes - 3080 in da house but still: how many Watts, so far the plus here I see - the usage in mining only ;-)) cos games will still going smooth...

The GE76 is really pretty darn good. Granted the Display is not as bright as others, but it looks pretty good to me. The sound is very good like you say. I like to play YouTube music videos and this thing can rock it very nicely. Yea the MSI software could be easier to use, I spent several days trying to figure out how to change the keyboard and found it's steel series software that allows you to adjust this feature. Glad you like your lappy.

    Regards.

The wait is an issue. To address that I placed another order for the pre-configured 5900HX / 3080 unit. That one is even cheaper at $2139.99 - and it also addresses your thermal concerns as AMD runs cooler (although not as good in games). It'll ship within 2 weeks. If the Intel does take that long and 12th gen materializes I will simply cancel it.

Not sure what the watt complaint is - it's a full 3080 not a lower wattage one.

The GE76 is great. Enjoy it. I have just heard widespread praise for the Legion series and at the price I am willing to make the move (because I already own a 5900HS / 3070 that I use for travel - it can tide me over). Plus, it's fun to have the 3080 - even if it runs hotter than a 3070 or 3060 with the same exact CPU. ;)

EDIT: also - mining is the same for the most part between the full wattage 3070 and 3080. No gain there. I got the 3080 for the max gaming performance, which, even then is only like 10% at most. But it'll certainly help with resale.

12th will come even if in January - February but at Full price!
So grab now this 11th with black Friday deals is only one opportunity (mostly). Lol after 12 - will be 13th again )))

ps.Mining at 3080 around 90-100Hs is not same as 55-65Hs at 3070 btw quite a difference.

I'm talking about the laptop GPUs - the full power laptop 3080 is basically a desktop 3070. Which gets nowhere near 90-100 MH/s. The full desktop 3080 gets 90 MH/s.

Strange comparison - I told about laptops versions but same desktop at least 3070. No desktop 3070 equal laptop 3080. Desktop and laptops 3070 are equal around 62 MH/s.
Even if memory faster in laptop version then it is 62 vs 61 in desktop. Same about 3080.

    https://www.nicehash.com/blog/post/best-mining-gpu-in-2021
    two 3070 as one 3090 approx. 3070+3060=3080

You have to look at the CUDA cores. Also - not sure if you noticed - but that article is about desktop GPUs - not laptops.

This is probably the best way to outline it:

2 issues of switching to Win 11. Getting weird anomalies occasionally from graphics only lasts a second or 2. For some reason it stopped recognizing not to sleep while plugged in. Had to change the whole power plan to ultimate and reset everything to get it to stop going to sleep. Otherwise its running decent.

Questions about space for heatsink and what kind is possible for SSD under the hood : anybody tried to put some heatsink, metal or simpler something on SSD?
How much space is in MSI laptops?

I didn't measure when I was in mine. There isn't a lot of room so it would have to be pretty low profile of probably less than 3 or 4 mm from what I saw.

I would say it is unnecessary as you generally arent using a ssd and hammering it enough to overheat it, however if you DO need to you could probabyl get a thin piece of aluminum or copper from the hardware store and cut it to size, then use thermal adhesive pads to just slap the sheet of metal over the ssd

Could you share pls - what temperatures gpu-cpu are you having in games with RT, simple Cooling pad, and Extreme profile for fans?
    For RTX3070 configs:
Undervolted in MSI Afterburner till 800-835mv and maximum t going as high as 72C Celsius in Doom Eternal, Quake II RT - 68-70C. Will check in Cyberpunk2077 and Control soon.
CPU is usually high for everybody till 95-98 Prochot. OC 46x and slightly undervolted.

Mostly forgot Dynamic Boost switched OFF and still getting high FPS, so.

ps. interesting - people recommend to use FPS limiter ( or Whisper mode from Nvidia kinda) do not go higher then 60fps and save temps and energy for not rendering 100 fps and etc

Usually you limit it to your screen refresh rate or to a specified fps that you can hit consistently. Limiting to 60fps is cancer. 90hz acceptable for 3rd person or RTS games. 120hz is the sweet spot.

I'm finally finishing with the set up of my new GE76 Raider 11UG-468. I upgraded it to Windows 11 and updated most of the MSI components and all of the drivers. Everything appears to be working fine, but I'm having an issue upgrading the SteelSeries Engine 3 Utility from version 2.2.0.0 to version 3.19.2. The MSI Live Update reports that the 3.19.2 version is available online, but when I go to the SteelSeries site to download it using the link from this page... I'm prompted to download SteelSeries version 12.0.0 which I have re-installed, but it doesn't update the Utility to 3.19.2. Maybe I'm missing something obvious or the Live Update feature is not reporting the installed version correctly. Has anyone else run across this issue and found an explanation or fix?

NeXt3R... First of all thanks for your reply and pardon my ignorance as I'm new to MSI. I installed the 3.25.0 version from your link above and thought it was going to update the existing installation . Instead, I ended up with two instances the SS GG and the SS Engine 3 running simultaneously. What are the differences between SteelSeries GG and SteelSeries Engine 3? Which one is the best for my GE76 Raider? Should I uninstall one of them or keep both?

GG - is a more modern application "contains ENGINE" + some next apps for capture / stream .,.,etc
ENGINE "single app package" - only keyboard functions "now outdated"

,.and if you use only ENGINE - recommended block / disable updates "prevents upgrade on GG" ;)

    Hello guys,

I was considering switching to the GE76. I had the ge75 in the past and switched to the GT76 one year ago.
Is the sound good compare to the GE75, GT75 or GT76. Is there a subwoofer ? I'm not sure.
Is the 11980hk too hot ? Does the CPU throttle after a few times w/o liquid metal (TDP or Temp) ? What frequency do you get on a long benchmark

    Thank you

Mine will thermal throttle within a minute under full load. THere pretty good machines but a bit too expensive for what you get. I would look into the Lenovo if I had to do it over again.

I agree with the 3070 version, even when costco had it for 2K. But the 3060 at 1299 at Costco is really unbeatable, minus any deals going on for Xmas. Costco had the machine for a few days at 1199 on around black friday, but I didn't want to mess with seeing if I could get it matched. There was some pretty good deals for a Gigabyte OLED computer about a month or two ago that was enticing, but I heard that the WiFI was flaky on the machine so I didn't bite.

SMOKE_SKULL, Thanks for the heads up... Did your laptop get a notification of the BIOS update somehow or did you find it by going to the MSI Support page for your laptop? Have you installed the new BIOS yet... and if so, did you find anything new/improved? I'm about to download BIOS E17K3IMS.11C for my 11UG-468 and would like to know where to look for changes once I install it.

    EDIT:

Updated my laptop to this new E17K3IMS.11C BIOS. So far, I found nothing new to report. Release notes below:

Yes I installed and it seems to have fixed the problem they replaced my mobo for. It would cause spikes in the GPU power use wattage according to GPUz and HWinfo. There was something to do with Boost 2.0 and I think thats what fixed mine. When I would play CPU/GPU heavy games I would get crazy 200+ Watt power spikes but only momentarily. Otherwise the machine seems to run good. I amy try and overclock the CPU again and see how that goes.

PS No i dint get notification. I just always check to see if theres any important updates. Dell is far batter at notifying and Asus just automatically updates the Bios kinda without permission. I had a Asus that did a bios update and was pleasantly surprised by a huge performance increase in Timespy score. It was already decent but it put the 3060 in the range of 3070s

bad and shame that they doesn't have SAVE config for UEFI and after update each time bring all OC things back manually again.

Ya its a PITA I always go in and take pictures of all my settings so I can reset everything or dont make a mistake with ram timings. I cant believe they cant even get the memory top run at its rated speed without tweakingt in the hidden bios. I got my laptop back from mobo replacement with ram running at 800mhz and the antenna wire for the wifi card unhooked. I am kinda pissed I had to pay 80 bucks for shipping to replace the motherboard there was nothing wrong with.

My kit is 16gbx2 dual rank Samsung C-Die. Is yours the same?

You can check with Thaiphoon burner

I tuned mine for lowest latency as it appears to benefit games more than bandwidth does.
