Hello all. Last night I read all 55 pages of this and signed up. I built a couple computers in my time but never overclocked them even though the last one i buit was meant to be OC'D 1ghz pentium copper core with asus mobo, ibm memory 1gb (yep old).

I been researching new laptops for about a week, so much new info but luckily my OCD kept up with the variances and narrowed it down to the GE76 11UH-006 111980hk rtx 3080 and lenovo legion16" i9 111980hk rtx 3080. Alot of VS articles and videos had the alienware(now owned by dell) but I wont touch anything with dell associated with it. Most of the reviews and videos favored the GE76(some the lenovo or alienware) some reviews of the ge76 had different specs, so some were a waste of time.

It seems the Lenovo legion i6 had completely separate cooling of the cpu and gpu and the GE76 had one shared cooling pipe. so the lenovo stayed cooler and didnt really throttle wheras the GE76 did some times but for most part was still getting better results. I was glad it was doing better then the amd and ryzen gpu in certain areas which were for programs like blender adobe etc..

The chassis of the GE76 is thicker and allows more cooling then the alienware and lenovo. This only came to a realization after reading this thread about the lack of paste on hardware. I suspect when MSI send out its laptops for people to do reviews they MAY make sure the paste is applied liberally so it performs to the best it can.

Mostly though the GE76 was the best. with one HUGE drawback, screen resolution and color accuracy. I fought with this one immensly. Since im going to be using the laptop for video editing, blender, adobe cloud and other high cpu/gpu programs(just starting with them) I wanted a power house laptop to render what im creating with the ability to be portable per se. Obviously plugged in to a wall, but still portable. I read about deleting true color to up the nits and then manually adjust settings which im cool with. However the panel just doesnt have enough ppi. Like i said i fought over this in my mind and almost canceled my order. I layed it to rest by figuring I can just buy a color calibrated monitor to get past the color issues and if i ever am away from home i can do all my animation without the monitor and not play with the colors too much until i get home.

There may be a light for our so so screens though and it has to do with the 12th gen GE76!

I know I'm late to the party, I just ordred a
    GE76 Raider uh11-006 comes with:
    i9 11980hk,
    RTX3080 16G GDDR6 155w max,
    1TB + 512GB NVMe SSD,
    32GB (16G*2) DDR4 3200MHz,
    17.3" Thin Bezel FHD, IPS-Level 144Hz, 75% NTSC 1920x1080 (16:9)
    WIN10 PRO
    280w power adapter
    3 year on site warranty+ADP
    msi Stealth Trooper Backpack

You'll notice for my 11uh-006 and 11UE-046 the screen seems sighty different?

    my uh11-006 AND 11UE-046 says
    17.3" Thin Bezel FHD, IPS-Level 144Hz, 75% NTSC 1920x1080 (16:9)
    all the others say:
    17.3" FHD (1920x1080), 360Hz 3ms, IPS-Level

Edit spoke with msi directly: turns out the 11uh-053 is the highest end because of 360H screen but lacks the 2nd +512GB nvmeSSD 3year waranty +ADP and steath trooper backpack

I want to proactively be ready for it when it arrives, so I have a couple questions:

It seems the heat is an issue depending on who put paste on the internals, If I do open it up and apply paste will it void the waranty?

even if it does, Does anyone have a good how to on what I need to apply the paste on. I saw the pics in this thread from the guy that redid his pasting but some pics were flipped and it realy messed with my OCD. also i didnt understand why he electrical taped around the processor. electrical tape shrinks and gets real sticky when heated up or maybe that type of tape doesnt?.(no disresect to whoeever did all that it helped but the pics messed me up)

So if anyone has a great how to for our GE76 repaste hat would be great

I want to be abe to test it right out the box to make sure everything is running properly as I only have a month to return it.

What programs can I use to test the entire laptop performance. I dont have any games to test with so it would need to be some sort of test bench program that will act like its running games etc. I use to play flight simulator, quake and action half life years ago.

Heres a comparison of all the GE76 11th gens it shows mine(uh11-006) and all the other variants so you can see the difference of the screen and waranty
    https://us.msi.com/Laptop/GE76-Raider-11UX/Specification

I spoke with a MSI dealer, a man named Ken over at Gentech PC out of CA. He didnt have the spec ge76 I wanted but was very informative. Coincidentally Today is the first day to take orders on the NEW 12th gen GE76 Raider and they ship febuary first. for me though spending 1500 more for the new released 12th gen is a bit too much and I dont want to wait. Or should I? I have a month to cancel my 11th gen GE76

From what I read on msi site and from talking to Ken the new gen top of the line(as far as I know but ay not be the top of the line ut its first one released) has a 12th gen i9 12900hk a RTX3080TI with higher wattage, 32GB (16G*2) DDR5 4800MHz, the screen is UHD 3840x2160 (16:9)!!!!!! it also has complete separate cooling for gpu/cpu, power adapter is 330w, video port is 1x (8K @ 60Hz / 4K @ 120Hz) HDMI ; 1x Mini-DisplayPort

So it seems MSI has done some upgrades that takes care of the screen, better cooling which will further enhance the processing speed and of course faster cpu with 12 core and faster TI model 3080 gpu

Because of this thread and one user changed his screen for a slight upgrade(not sure if he responded back about it) What im wondering about the new gen is will we be able to change our FHD 1920x1080 screens to the new UHD 3840x2160 or QHD 2560x1440 screen? The dimensions of the 12th gen is slightly different 12th gen is 15.63"x 11.18"x 1.02" 1th and 10th gen is 15.63"x 10.57"x 1.08"

not sure how much the 12th gen screen would cost if it does in fact fit and has the same connector? can anyone find out?

Heres the comparison with the top of the line 12th, 11th and 10th Gen GE76 raider specs

How did youo make out with changing your panel? I got a bunch of info on different country panels for 11th gen GE76.

what specific model GE76 do you have?

did yours come with 144hz thin bezel? Edit: I checked the 140hz screen and UHD screen for width height and depth and they are the same so regardless if its thin bezel or not it should fit

the part I got from msi support was not the same as your part# you ordered (not sure what your trying to do)-less latency on screen I think?

IM looking to change mine to UHD for higher quality screen for graphic editing. so far this is what I have..
