I did the same thing with my second ssd with Easeus todo backup. Just make sure you select "optimize for ssd" if that's an option. The cloned drive won't boot correctly without it.

Mismatched ram should be fine if the timings are remotely close. If the timings on the faster stick change to match the slower one, you can change the timings from the advanced bios menu. In fact, there's no reason not to try overclocking the ram while you're at it.

    Hey all,

I tried to flash the Asus 90w 2060 bios and it worked nicely. However, when I tried to run the afterbuner OC scanner with the new bios, the system always crashes and shows blue screen with "video TDR failure" error. Does anybody know what is the reason that causes this, and possibly the fix? Was it necessary to do the "limiting the wattage pulled" step also after flashing the new bios?

    Thanks!

You don't need to limit the wattage going from 80 to 90W. They are physically the same card. TDR failure is basically a GPU communication breakdown, so I'd first try gaming without Afterburner for a bit to see if you get the same error. If it runs fine without Afterburner, reinstall AB, then try just upping the core by 150 or so. Iirc, you're using the same vbios I did and while I didn't do OC scanner, my gs runs fine with a custom curve (+220 at the lowest frequency, reducing the oc by 1-3pts each control point onward until 2,000MHz, then flat from there.) and +1500 on the memory. You can tell which frequency/voltage combo causes failure by watching the RTSS overlay during a benchmark. Whatever it freezes on is the point you have to change in AB.

I personally prefer a fresh windows install and I just copy my important files. More often than not, I carry over issues when backing up/cloning, but that's just me.

In theory, you shouldn't experience much issues with RAM but in some cases you will have instability. But you should definitely test and check how the system behaves, run some games, some benches to check stability.

I've read that previous models of the stealth unofficially supported g-sync. Is this still the case with the 2019/RTX msi stealth laptops?

Not sure. Out of the box this doesn't support it because of optimus, but there is a possibility it could be enabled via software, but for this is all rumors for the time being.

    It would be great though.

    Hello guys,

I recently purchased an MSI GS65 8SE (RTX 2060) @hidevolution and I was wondering if the "power limit" that I'm seeing using MSI afterburner is normal.

and also, what fan speed curve settings do you recommend?

    Thank you!

    Yes that's normal

As far as fan, I game on cooler boost (+150%) and regular use I use AUTO (I use silent options.exe for fan control)

Is there any particular reason you don't use dragon center to control that?

This is odd, so after messing around with my RAM timings, I decided to test in FireStrike and as expected got better scores. So since I was testing this, i figured hey why not try increasing my MSI AB memory clock value as well.

Previously I had test 225 core, 250 memory and was stable, anything higher on memory would crash or exit the FS benchmark.

So I said, **** it and moved the memory slider to 500 and it didnt crash, 800 - all good, 1000 - all good, 1100, 1200, 1300 BOOM stable with increased results.

I don't know how I went from +250 memory being the highest/stable I could get to now reaching +1300 memory, the only thing that has changed GPU wise is drivers, so using the latest NVIDIA drivers.

Has anyone seen this before? Insane jump in memory OC, just following driver updates?

My graphics scores went from 17625 to 17837

This is Single Channel, I am planning non buying another 16 gb 2666 SODIMM stick.

    Error correction?
If your memory were actually +1000, your graphics score I would think would have gone up by far over 500 points, possibly about 1000 points.
Go back to 0 mhz on the memory, test, and record your graphics score.
then increase memory 50 mhz at a time, test and record.
keep doing this all the way up to 1,000, going 50 at a time. Yes it will take awhile, but at least that will tell you whats going on.

This happened to 3 of my keys after about 8 months. Funny thing is I actually don't use the RGB. So not quite sure when it died out. One day I just decided to try it and.... Suprise!

Try hibernation or shutdown completely instead of sleep? Or is that with the laptop OS "shutdown" completely?, you didn't say explicitly. Maybe check BIOS options for any quick on wake features (mouse, network, keyboard) turn off all options that could draw power while shutdown.

Just wanted to confirm for anyone who is looking to upgrade their MSI GS65 8SE (best buy version):

Cloning the stock kingston SSD to an inland premium 1tb nvme (3K sequential reads and writes, microcenter brand https://www.microcenter.com/product...80-pcie-nvme-30-x4-internal-solid-state-drive) went flawlessly with the free version of easeus todo backup and the latter is now my boot drive and the old kingston ssd will be used to store games/etc.

Also, adding the unmatched Crucial 16gb stick of ram ( https://www.microcenter.com/product/503200/16gb-ddr4-2666-mhz-sodimm-memory-module ) works just fine in dual channel with the stock 16gb stick of ram that came with the unit . . .

    Thanks for the help everyone,

    Hello everyone,
I just received my gs65 (2060, 9750h) and am very satisfied with it. I got the LM version from gentechpc and the thermals/performance are great (14k+ firestrike without going over 80C on the CPU and 70C on the GPU). That said, i have a minor issue: the LED next to the power button is almost always orange, indicating that the dGPU is in use. Sensor data confirms this (see picture below), since there is power applied to the dGPU, but task manager cannot identify any app using it.
    https://imgur.com/a/FEsFD5b

Anyone have any input on this by any chance? Would be much appreciated.

In the nvidia control panel, you can turn on "Display GPU activity icon in notification area" setting. There you can check which app is using the dGPU. I noticed that it is usually dragon center that is using the dGPU, or CPU-Z if you have that installed.

Also, does anybody have a problem with battery draining while sleeping? I noticed that the battery drained significantly during sleeping, for example, today I put the laptop to sleep in the morning and now when I turn in on after 10hrs the battery went from 100 to 80%.

I don't know whether this drive is "double-sided" or not, but yes it fit flawlessly without any modification into drive slot #2 of the GS65....

When did you purchase yours? I am in Australia and considering voiding the warranty to install my own RAM, 1TB NVMe and repaste/place pads.

But... Considering your RGB failed (my GS65 8RF suffered the same fate), I am hesitant now.

Maybe worth paying the $100.00 for the vendor to do the authorised upgrades.

I purchased mine the same week the RTX version launched in feb. I called up the service center folks and they said they replace it with a new keyboard assembly, or I could just wait until "more issues like overheating came up". Yes those were the exact words. Its like they are quite confident about thermal issues originating from it :|

Yes sadly for keyboard/LED issues the entire bottom of the laptop needs replacing. It's 2 parts I believe (chassis/keyboard) connected by rivets. I was quoted about $225ish, can't recall, this was for the whole bottom part of the laptop and DID NOT include labour (GS65-8RF).

Dang I figured they would have addressed the keyboard issues in this revision, maybe it's the same part used in last gen.

Well thanks for the info, and sorry about your laptop. I think I will just pay the $65ish AUD for the Authorised Retailer to upgrade my laptop in order to maintain warranty. Afraid this version will also have failing fans down the road. ::Fingers crossed::

My mini display port isn't working. At first I thought it was my 90W VBIOS on the RTX2060.
So I flashed back to my original vBIOS and still the mini display port is not working. Any idea of what's going on? Thanks!

I bought the GS65 RTX 2060 about two months ago. The battery is designed for 80,200 mWh but my full charge capacity (from windows power report) is only 55,000 mWh. I’ve done the battery calibration and generally do well to maintain the battery (don’t fully discharge, charge to 80%, unplug overnight, etc.).

I currently have an RMA with MSI for it but I also bought the. Best But protection in case something happened like a drop. With BB I get one battery swap.

    Two questions:
    1) has anyone else experienced such low battery full charge capacity? I’ve seen mention of it elsewhere but none in here
    2) anyone recommend I go thru Best Buy instead of MSI RMA?

I’ve decided to RMA it and sent it back today. I’d rather trust the MSI folks with my laptop instead of GeekSquad. That’s based on nothing, but still feel better about it. I’d rather have GeekSquad replace the entire laptop or nothing. Probably misplaced fear.

Hi, I have an GS65 with RTX2060 and 9750. I want to uninstall Dragon Center and use Silent Options, True Color and SMC Control. The problem is I cant find the link to download the SMC Control for the GS65 RTX, I cant find in the msi website or any external link.

For those who flashed to 90w VBIOS, do your miniDP work?

Mine doesn't output, and I think another user on Reddit with the 2060 has the same problem.

I just noticed cause I have never used miniDP, but have since bought a cable and found it to not work.

This is xPPK from Reddit. Trying to see if anyone got theirs to work.

Trying to aVoid flashing back but maybe necessary. Granted I don't NEED the dp wanted to stop having to switch the HDMI port behind my monitor all the time.

Maybe KVM switch will be the only option for me.

Hello all! I purchased the best buy version of 2060 laptop earlier this year and I was wondering if there was an easy way to determine whether or not certain sticks of ram fit in the laptop?
I've heard stories of certain brands with larger heatsinks (patriot viper) not fitting in slimmer laptops and if there were recommended brands to seek.

I'm definitely looking into buying another 16gb ram stick, micron ballistix ( https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16820164053) or corsair vengeance ( https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16820236372) or some timetec hynix on amazon? ( www.amazon.com/dp/B07H4XNNXK/) but don't know if the first two would actually fit...

Additionally, I was looking into buying one of those Sabrent 2TB NVME M2 but heard the issues with those can be resolved by finding the right cloning software or just fresh installing windows? What's the easiest way to fresh install windows on the laptop?

My miniDP is still not working after DDU and driver reinstall. Did you manage to get yours working? I guess now it is either 90w bios no miniDP, or old 80w bios but miniDP working :\

The laptop is very thin so it might be possible some sticks of ram don't fit as they should. If possible try to get one without a thick heatsink and it should fit just fine. My Lenovo P1 is even thinner and uses Kingston Hyper X with heatsink. That ballistics might be fine, perhaps just confirm its dimensions.

As for the SSD, the best way to clean install windows is to download a Media Creation Tool from microsoft's page and create a bootable USB. This way you can clean install the latest windows. Beforehand, you can download all the drivers/utilities you want and need from MSI's support page for your specific model (for example, my GS75 is 8SG). Once you clean install, update windows and then update the required drivers.

When I clean installed windows on my laptop I believe most drivers were already "there" and only needed to install stuff like Steel Series keyboard software, MSI True Color, etc.

    Hello all, a few questions:

    1. Im getting a power limit on my 2060 with MSI afterburner @ +220 core curve and +1200 mem OC, would flashing that 90w gpu bios I'm reading about help avoid it? (Seems logical)

    2. Besides the not functioning dp port are there any other troubles with the 90w gpu bios?

    3. Any links to this 90w gpu bios im mentioning? (And maybe some flashing instructions too)

    Thanks all!

In hit PL instantly on 90W, however it still a good upgrade.

You can search this thread for the guide. I uploaded a OneDrive Link to the guide and a link to Hackness' guide for flashing GPU.

No other troubles so far with 90W VBIOS. Temperature are fine, at least for me.
