Saw this in the Nvidia forum. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1100503/can-t-access-the-control-panel/?offset=2

If you have the message "NVIDIA Control Panel is currently not available" / "Redeem a code", do this :

    - Download/Install Microsoft App Installer from MS Store (for allow Appx install) : https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9nblggh4nns1

    - Download DCH NVIDIA Control Panel 8.1.950.0 x64 (Latest / Appx) : https://mega.nz/#!wRFUBYZR!2H8Y5RsC1J776_gZr8JZMQOh0tLe4_I5448ZA-cPsac

    - Install it (double click on NVIDIACorp.NVIDIAControlPanel_8.1.950.0_x64__56jybvy8sckqj.Appx)

Thanks!!! I was messing around by letting windows install nvidia driver, after that I restarted and got a blue screen. Now it is stuck at the logo screen and will not boot. Any recommendations? @JRey @Atma I already tried the reset button on the button...

The same thing happened to me when I first got the laptop - blue screen, restart, PC stuck on MSI logo, tried reset, then the screen wouldn't even turn on. Sent it back to GentechPC, and they found out that one of my M.2 NVMe drives was faulty (Intel 600p SSD). Removed the drive, and viola - everything works fine.

That did the trick. I took out the HP EX900 500GB and it started back up right away. Thanks!!!
It was working for hours and it just stopped...

Yeah, same to me, the Intel 600p worked for about 6 hours, then stopped. I bought a 1TB Samsung EVO 970 M.2 NVMe and supposed to get it Saturday. I will open the flipped mobo and install it. My primary drive (where the OS is installed) is a 500GB Samsung EVO 970, so I didn't lose anything but empty storage when the Intel 600p failed.

It should already be enabled if the Ram supports XMP.

I just purchased the HyperX 32GB 2666MHz ram modules. The difference between the stock config and these is the CAS latency which is CL15 vs CL19.
Once they’re installed, I’ll report back of any performance increase I find.

The ram has XMP which is 2666 16-16-16-38 but the MSI only shows 2400. After a shutdown it doesn't want to get past the MSI logo.

system was upgraded to 32gb Ballistix DDR 4 2666 CL16 memory (only shows 2400)
    Samsung Evo+ 970 TB nvme
XPG SX 8200 Pro 1TB nvme
Updated to latest BIOS and EC
Computer was on then shut it down. A few hours later tried to turn it on and stuck on MSI logo. Did battery disconnect switch on the bottom of the laptop and plugged power back in and still stuck on the MSI boot logo. Any ideas?

Unfortunately computer stuck on MSI logo on boot and can't even go into BIOS. How do you do the bios unlock? Figure I could do that unlock once the BIOS is accessible

On the underside of the laptop, is a small hole on the left side, it’s a reset button. Have you tried pushing it with a paper clip?

The motherboard may not support the RAM. You can try to reset your bios to factory settings by holding the power button down for 60 seconds, then power on again. It will go through 4 boot loops to flush the settings, so that's normal.

Held onto it for 30 seconds and plugged it into the power adapter and still stuck on MSI logo. Won't go into BIOS either pressing the DEL or F2 key

Probably the memory wasn't programmed correctly or needs XMP enabled for it to reach the advertised speeds but not too worried about that at the moment. More concerned with it not getting past MSI logo.

    trying this now.

That's just to disconnect the battery power from the laptop since the battery isn't removable. Holding the power button for 60 seconds resets all bios settings.

According to MSI holding it down for 30 seconds battery disconnect button that is, resets the EC. So they suggested that first. Tried the 60 second on the power button and it restarted twice and on the 3rd start it's still stuck on MSI logo.

You can try F2 or F3 while it's starting up to go to the restore menu. I believe F12 is boot devices. When you reset the bios, did you try entering it on the first MSI screen, the third one? If so, try again but wait, the first time the logo shows it will reboot once more. You may have jumped the gun.

I tried on the 3rd reboot as the first one had no display the second reboot was too fast and third just hung there. I've powered it off since then and turned it on just now trying to get into BIOS again with no luck. F2, F3, F11 has no effect.

Its supposed to reboot 4 times. Try again and just let it do that. I wouldn't try getting into the bios right away, let it boot to windows first then restart. Make sure you're connected into a power source. Have you tried to just let it sit there for 10 minutes? Where did you get the RAM?

it booted twice and the 3rd time stayed on the msi logo. maybe i jumped the gun. The thing is it wont boot into windows so wont be able to do a restart from windows, lets see after the 60 second power thing for a 2nd time. the ram was from amazon, linked it a few pages ago: https://www.amazon.com/Ballistix-16...s=gateway&sprefix=ballistix+32,aps,116&sr=8-2

Left it on for more than 10 minutes and I just hear the fan throttling back and forth and stills tuck on the MSI logo. I'm thinking it could be an issue with the XPG nvme so will try to remove that and see what happens. If that doesn't work then i'll remove the ballistix memory and put in the factory memory to see. Will update later

Try installing the stock memory and see if that fixes the issue.
If it does, the Ram may be incompatible.

I took a look at the RAM, Its dual rank which is why the motherboard degraded it down to 2400hz. Dual rank is slower than Single rank RAM, and the motherboard will only support 2666hz as Single rank.
These are DR SO-DIMM, while compatible, using these is basically downgrading. Here's an example of what you need, https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Kings...CRKH57Z8Y68V&refRID=CWJYKW9NCRKH57Z8Y68V&th=1

Also, this should help you. https://www.msi.com/faq_new/answer/A1504848896901/Q1504848870956

I ordered those memories. Dual rank is supported on this laptop since I ordered these as well: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIADZJ7RA2370 and they read as 2666 just that instead of being cas 11 they were 19 so returned those. Either ways going to return the ballistix today and put the old factory memory in. Will see what happens once I get the HyperX from amazon.

Use HWinfo to find out your module part number, you can use that to find out exactly which brand you can upgrade to for full compatibility. For example in my computer, the brand is samsung 8GB. I have 2 sticks. Module part number for each one is the same: M471A1K43CB1-CTD

Now say i was going to upgrade. Since they make it vendor specific, i would need to order two of these to use https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA8H58M26448

Note the module part number on them: M471A2K43CB1-CTD

    8GB 1R8: M471A1K43CB1-CTD
    16GB 2R8: M471A2K43CB1-CTD

These are the only ones that will be able to operate at 2666hz with full dual rank.

    Hope that helps.

The CL is 19 without overclocking.

Well not sure how we got here. I wasn't looking for an downgrade to lower CAS ram but rather high performance ram. Like I said they were advertised as CAS 11 when actually they weren't. The ballistix looked like the cheapest option for 2666 so went with that but alas it doesn't work at 2666. I went and cought the hyperx impact as genetechPC uses them as well so they must be good for this specific model.

Honestly I wouldn't buy the one you linked as those are all advertised incorrectly for their CAS.

I was just making the point that it's vendor specific whether the dual rank operates at full speed or is down clocked to 2400hz

Divinated your remarks about the memory were not helpful as they were wrong. I think your suggestions were all incorrect. First you said that it's because it's dual rank memory that the motherboard degraded it to 2400. Another claim was that dual rank was slower than single rank.

I know you were trying to help but at least give accurate information.

The memory that came with the MSI GS65 is a dual rank SKHynix.
Dual rank is faster than single rank because of the ability of opening multiple pages PER rank. This is only limited by the memory controller on the board of in this case chip.

Anyways the problem of my laptop seems to be coming from the nvme by xpg. This will be returned as it doesn't seem to work properly. Guess saving 47 bucks compared to the evo was not worth the headache. Waiting ont he hyperx 32gb kit to come in and try those. I remember the 2400 kit was incompatible with my GS73VR previously so let's hope this set works as it seems to be the set used by companies that customize these laptops.

Sorry, what i meant is that if the manufacture isn't the same, then the dual ranked doesn't operate fully in dual channel. Mine came with samsung.

your attachment proved my point. 16GB x 2 in slot 1 and slot 2. Anymore than that it would degrade the memory speed.
Not sure how the second attachment pertained to my case as it was the nvme that was causing the issue and not the memory. The memory just weren't rated for 2400 and MSI does nto have a QVL for notebooks only desktops.

Question for JRey, or anyone else who's well versed in undervolting the CPU:
I read JRey's undervolting guide, and other misc tune ups for the GS65. My question is very basic - do I have to unlock the BIOS in order to undervolt my CPU with ThrottleStop?

Throttlestop doesn't require anything from the BIOS. I haven't used it on my GS65 yet, but Ive done it on my Razer blade and Alienware 15

You dont need to mess with BIOS settings to undervolt the CPU in ThrottleStop BUT you should make some BIOS tweaks to MAXIMIZE the 8750H. @hackness has an awesome guide showing what to do.

    Hello Everyone,

I just received my GS65. I had to fresh install Windows, but thanks to your information, I was able to get everything working (ie. Both Graphics drivers with their respective panel and Optimus working as expected !) and I finally followed Hackness Guide for ThrottleStop, everything seems fine except one thing :

I'm not able to set my "Non Turbo Ratio" higher than 8 in the FIVR, each time I'm trying, it is reverted automatically to 8. Is it expected ?

Result is that I'm always in Turbo mode.

    Thanks for your help!

So I've been trying to find info on what you said. There's this guide: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-and-discussions-lounge.815216/#post-10705417

Is this the only thing you really need to do to the BIOS to be able to bypass undervolting/throttlestop?

So I put the HP ex900 in my Razer Blade 14 and it works fine. I wonder why it was preventing the GS65 from booting :-O

Maybe in the bios, you somehow removed the drive from the boot menu?

It might not be the GS65. In my case, GentechPC took out the Intel 600p for me and swapped slots with the Samsung 970 EVO. Now the PC boots and everything seemed OK. But a couple of days later I have trouble accessing some folders in the Intel 600p. It would be random, since several reboots later I can access those folders. I'm attributing this to a failing Intel SSD, which is why I'm replacing it with a new Samsung 970 EVO+ later today.

I noticed the stock SSD has a thermal pad between contacting the motherboard. I'm going to install my 960Evo NVMe today with a thermal pad just in case

@rockelino How hard is it to take off those stickers? I left them on there before I didn't want to leave any sticky residues on the casing

The big rectangular sticker on the right was super easy. The little residue that it left was removed easily with a microfiber cloth and screen cleaner solution.
The small stickers on the left were a pain:
    1. I used a guitar pick (can also use old credit card, anything straight and plastic - NOT METAL) to scrape them off. All 3 stickers left a lot of residue.
    2. I used several drops of mineral oil on the residue. Make sure it doesn't spill onto the keyboard. Leave it there for several minutes. Then, scrape the residue with plastic straight-edge (i.e. guitar pick).
    3. Use a paper towel to soak up the oil. This should get rid of 90% of the residue.
    4. Complete the cleaning process by using that microfiber cloth and screen cleaner spray.

    Overall, took about 10 minutes.

Here's a helpful youtube video I found (except for the metal knife thing):

Also, I didn't do the blow dyer thing.
