Does anyone know how to program the P1 button on the 1722-id1 with Vista64? I have the SCM installed, but I only have the option of selecting either About or Exit when I right click on the tray icon, and double clicking does nothing. The MSI website only shows SCM as being 32bit compatible. Is this the problem, or am I missing something?
    Thanks!
BTW Good Luck on the 9400s getting them all working. I almost bought one for my second build, but ended up going with the T9600 from extremeprocessor. It is supposed to come today or tomorrow.

I just swapped out my wifi card to a 5300 and I cannot get it (the wifi card) to start. I used the HW button to turn it on, and the light on the button comes on, but it has a prob in device mgr. It shows that the driver is working fine, but it cannot start the device. Any suggestioins?

Hey guys, I received the 1722 ID2 barebone already. Don't have the parts yet to get the system up and running, but they're coming soon. But I can't help but be amazed on how thin this thing is! Maybe it might be just me being used to thick gaming notebooks, but apparently this is the same chassis as the MSI GT725, which is impressive if it can cool a GPU like the 4850 (although the Dell Precision M6400 is supposed to be as thin and also houses a FX3700M).

Also, the chassis is very solid. I tried pushing the keyboard area to see of any flex, but it wouldn't budge, which is good. The hinges are also very solid and doesn't distort the entire chassis when flexed or forced out of its position.

Anyways, I really like the design of this barebone with the red and black trim with the touch sensitive buttons, all the while being thin though strong and resilient. If there were a Con, it would be the mini-PCI e setup; would rather see at least two full-sized slots rather than one full and one half-height. Also, there is the potential placement of the heat dissipator for the CPU fan, but I wouldn't know if it really poses that much of a problem when using a mouse with this thing.

If you push the P1 button it should bring up a window for programming, even in in Vista64. If it does something then you have the wrong firmware and is swapped with one of the other buttons.

Ok....this really sucks! I installed a p8400 in my msi 1722 and I am still getting the black screen. Anyone else have any ideas?

Also, when the processor is seated correctly, which way should the screw face. It has to be that I seated the CPU oncorrectly or the system board is shot.

Now I have two processors and a notebook that won't use either one!

    Help!

I am sorry to hear that. I assume you tried classic solutions (running with minimal configuration) etc. As said P8400 should work with any BIOS.

Are both processors OEM or ES?

I found out there are a couple versions of the 5300. One is for Intel/HP only and one is for "other". The intel/hp one give a device cannot start error (code 10) in device manager. I swapped it out for the 5300 "other version" and it came right up.

I have one of the t9400 ES chips from ebay and it is giving me all kinds of fits. I wasnt able to complete a XP or vista install with it at all. It would blow up towards "setup is completing". So I borrowed a p8600 from a work laptop and the install went fine on first try. I swapped the procs back and was running OK for a few days. 2 days ago I installed the intel 5300. First power on it just cold booted after the login prompt. After 3 or 4 of those it stayed on. Ran for 3 hours of WoW, then started doing it again. It did the same thing with the wireless card powered off, so I removed the 5300 and it is still doing it. I broke down and ordered a t9400 from Newegg. Hopefully that will eliminate the issues.

    This barebone notebook is fantastic

Just using it yesterday and the build, keys, and frame are really solid. Plus it runs quiet.

Only problem I see is that the trackpad doesn't respond after I open the notebook out from standby. I have Vista 64. Any reasons for this?

That maybe it. my pny didn't work at all. Corsair can be twitchy on this computer. I switched to OCZ and "whoosh" my startup problems flushed away. I got the 2 GB sticks of 6400. What OS are you going to use?

    I'm getting worried...

    I bought a T9400 from xiaobaiyang2 and I have some G Skill ram.

I haven't had time to try anything out yet but I'm building this weekend. Has anyone not had any problems with a T9400 from xiaobaiyang2? Thanks.

Read up a few posts, you will see the same seller of them T9400's not working right with tye, i have seen several posts, if you plan to purchase an ES chip, your safe bet is get a C0 stepping as those would be close to the final release.
tye, should have check in the sales area, could have saved a few bucks and grabbed that retail p9500 i placed up there.

Finally got my MSI 1722 up and running. Had to buy an extra processor to flash the bios since my T7200 PGA wouldnt boot with it. After 6 cds of various Win Xp versions it i found one that would actually work.

    current spec:
    MSI 1722 17'" wuxga
    QX9300 processor
    Intel SSD X25-M 80GB
2x2 GB RAM 800mhz No Name
    Sony Optiarc DVD
    Intel WIFI 5300

I love this laptop. Its light for a 17 inch and has a classic look about it.
However Im a bit dissapointed in the keyboard. There are big gaps between the keyboard and the rest of the laptop aswell as the Enter and Shift key being extremly small. Also the fn button is on the far left side instead of being in between the ctrl and win key. Normally this would be a huge minus but I really like this laptop so Im just gonna pretend like its raining everytime I misclick until i get used to this keyboard.

Well, I got the book running on the T9400. But, the system keeps crashing. I even updated the BIOS to s version and things got worse. I went back to r but still having issues.

I am trying to go through paypal to get a refund on the cpu. I'll keep you posted.

I have not updated the bios or firmware.. no real problems yet.. still loading drivers for XP. Now it isn't recognising my other memory stick..so that is a problem. I figure that is possibly a bios problem of my slot is jacked. I planned to update the bios but I was leary of the new firmware. so after I get the drivers loaded and work out thase bugs I will worry about the bios and the memory problem. I dont ever use xp so it is taking a bit to get use to. Sorry your having all those problems Hawkaroo. If this chip stays stable I will transfer it to my ms1722 and get a better chip to go in this one.. since it is my wifes. Is shes happy everyone is happy ;)

That's unfortunate. I'm sure PayPal will agree with you because it was not properly represented as an ES chip.

For those loading XP on their barebones.. can you list all the drivers you loaded... since the ones with the barebones are for vista. I have been downloading drivers for 2 days (dial up). After spending 3 hours downloading it sucks to find out you got the wrong one or one that does work  I am almost ready to just load Vista... but not quite ready(dont like Vista).

Thats what I thought at first  .. but it maybe a combo of the ES chip and memory. Where as a non ES chip would respond better to the bios and the system over all.... anyhow .. it seems to be working now. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

My question was phrased poorly. I've seen a few people with the ES T9400 that have problems, I am wondering is everyone having problems or have people bought from him and had their chips work well?

It seems that only people buying from him since he sells Q4H4 (B1 Stepping). As stated several times extremeprocessors is selling Q155 (C0 Stepping) and it seems to be retail-like and several people commented well about him.

I know that now; however, I bought the processor on February 1st, but I haven't been able to test it out yet. I am worried that it won't work and that it will be too late to request a refund. I was wondering if people who have bought a T9400 ES from xiaobaiyang2 like I have have gotten their chips to work without problems. I would not buy it from him if I was buying right now, but I bought the proc before the negative comments were made.

Seller has some odd descriptions in items.

eBay SP9400 listing it states at 21-Feb that SP9400 works but T9400 does not. Why there is an explanation for T9400 at a SP9400 listing?

eBay T9400 Listing #1 Answers a question at 24-Feb and saying that this T9400 is compatible with MSI 1722

If there is no way for a refund, you can at least request a change with SP9400 if it is working (he says so but I can't trust)

As there may be someone that can be interested I found some ES CPUs at eBay Taiwan (Ruten). I asked seller about stepping codes (although I don't know Chinese) but there is no return yet.

T9550 QZNZ seems to be NT 3500 which is about $100 excluding shipping.

SP9400 QZNM seems to be NT 2500 which is about $70 excluding shipping.

SL9600 Q3TZ seems to be NT 1600 which is about $45 excluding shipping.

For the last : Please don't blame me about anything (for future). I have no relation with seller and this is not an ad.

EagleEye- I and atleast one other on this forum have bought a T9400 ES from xiaobaiyang2 and got them to work. It hasn't wigged out yet. I am slowly loading drivers and debate on whether to update the bios from 1.0H to 1.0R or the newest 1.0S , but from what the few of us have learned with this chip is it is very peculier to memory and try to load one memory stick when trying to boot. So far I know OCZ memory works, Corsair.. maybe, Pny probably not.. so I think that answers your question. If I had to do over again I would have bought from another supplier knowing more about the stepping of the chip... since i have this one have got it to work.. you maybe able to as well. Since I have not updated my bios and the computer is working. Keep the fingers crossed ;)

Yes , I got it to work out of the box.. so to say. I did have to try 3 different makers of SOdimm memory and only load one stick in each time to test if it would boot but yes. So far nothing bad happening either .. after loading up most of the drivers for XP.

Zfactor- have you flashed your bios up to version 1.0p, 1.0r, or 1.0s ? Have you updated your firmware as well? Wanting to know if it made you system buggy at all.

i bought a retail boxed CPU from newegg. P8600 (SLB3S) chip so im counting on it working with whatever shipping version of bios my 1722 ID-1 has when it arrives monday. Also have Gskill ram, and from what i ve read of it, shouldnt be an issue as well.

Ok- one more time ,OCZ worked and allowed me to boot and install windows XP. Corsair - tested both sticks - with both sticks half the time black screen other half blue and booted up.. of the time it booted it locked up during windows install. It may work now that windows is installed but I havent test that yet. I am currently using OCZ and sticking with it . I am having the problem of the computer not reading more than 2GBs of memory.. but I am positive that problem has nothing to do with the memory sticks.

I should get my ram today so I can try everything out. I'm getting a refund if the t9400 ES from xiaobaiyang2 is unstable or won't let me use all 4gb ddr2 since he never said it was an ES.

EDIT: Never mind. Didn't get the ram today. Pretty pathetic considering I live less than 30 miles from Newegg. I ordered on Monday, thinking I would receive it Wednesday. Already Thursday and still not here.

I've used G.Skill almost exclusively in the 1722's for 4gb installs, and all of them have worked great (2x2 4GB kit). This one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231156

For 8GB, after issues with Crucial (can't blame them, they don't have the GX720/620 certified for their 8gb kit), I'll stick with Dell OEM Elpida sticks. Just rock solid memory that has worked in every test system so far.
