I haven't used G. skill memory before but I was going to go with them after OCZ. I have heard that they are good quality memory. After you saying you had problems with your 8GB Crucial , Electrosoft, I decided not to try the 4 GBs.
Anyhow I got my memory problem fixed. It was a hardware issue and the spring clamps that hold the memory in place were off set oh so slightly as to not allow the pins to contact well. after a light bending I am reading both slots and 4GBs..more or less.
Question- anyone figure out how to use the video cam? I am sure I am just missing something.
-
-
I think that the memory will be here tomorrow if it comes from Jersey. If it comes from Cali then probably monday or tuesday.
As always...I will keep you posted. -
my 1722 so far i have used 4gb ocz, 4gb kingston, 4gb crucial (micron chips), 4gb mushkin, 4gb gskill, 4gb corsair. all worked fine with no issues at all. all was 800 ddr2 2x 2gb sticks

Lets spice it up. Here is a 1722 with T9800. GPU is overclocked.

It's the bottom of the four buttons on the left side of the keyboard.
Well the only time that button doesn't work is if you used the wrong EC firmware update. Somewhere in this thread explains which one to use depending on which MS-1722 you have.
As long as it's on, you should be able to see it with any programs that can use a cam.
An easy way to know if it works is open windows explorer and you should see something like USB Video Device under My computer. I have the SCM installed so it monitors the buttons and such so I don't know if it's needed or not. -

I got it with 800p resolution. So it is not as good yet. This score is better than gateway 6860 or 6831 tough which has a 8800m gts.
With a Q9100 I got 9400 3dmark06. And I believe it can do even better. The GPU scores are around mid to high 3Ks. -

Any of you guys with memory trouble want to sell your extra 2X2GB kits?

I installed the t9400 es in my ms-1722 id1 and it seemed fine all day until now. I stress tested it with orthos for 30 minutes with no errors, but a couple hours ago I tried to download some new vga drivers from the MSI site and the computer bluescreened. I didn't get to see what was going on because the bsod went away after 8 seconds and the computer rebooted. I tried downloading the same driver a few more times and the computer bluescreened at different times during the download.
Then I turned the computer on, did not try to dl the drivers again, booted firefox and started browsing these forums, then I got another bsod. I don't know what's causing it. -
has anyone removed the palmrest/keyboard panel to skin it? Mine arrives tomrrow and id like to protect it right out of the box. Just wondering if there is anything special to removing it or not? Screws involved or it snaps apart? thx.

I bought one of these laptops and I am wondering if you can use a T9600 without flashing the bios?
-
Im happy to say im a proud owner of a 1722 now. Finally got it all together this evening. Booted on first try and humming right along. Flashed bios and updated firmware with no problems using zfactors guide(thanks z). Nice machine, lighter than I expected. And its quiet(atleast to me) and its very quick. Now to get it where i want it and dial everything in. Probably gonna look into getting some skins on it this week if i can as well. Cheers.

First tried Celeron 540 (SLA2F) and it didn't work. Installed a P8400 and works fine. Bios Build 1.0 H, EC Build 4.22

1.0H(shipping bios) works confirmed P8600 retail
1.0S(upgrade bios) works confirmed P8600 retail -

eBay has just about dried up for the 1722/1651's now.
I'm down to just my HDX......
.....and a spare QX9300 OEM waiting for a warm body down the road. I was seriously contemplating a W90vp, but the issues and the GDDR3 just broke my heart, heh.
GT725 @ $1349 is awfully hard to beat with that config for that price new. -

937-172219-002 WUXGA (black/red chassis) is discontinued, replacement model is 937-172226-039 (black chassis) , WUXGA non-glare. -
Newegg has the GX720-1W1US marked down to $999.
-
I wanted to get the 1722 ID2 WUXGA model but all i see are the WSXGA+ model on ebay. I like the black and red scheme. -
I just got wifi card Intel 5100 mini and it only has 2 antennas. What is the third one for? Does the third one affect anything?
-
the 4965 and 5300 bot use the third antenna.
-
so the third antenna wire just hang in my ms-1722 not being connected?

is there anyone bought 1722 from diver7c @ ebay?
-

-
I did and I just received mine in the mail yesterday. I haven't seen a problem with it yet but then again I don't have all of the components to put it together yet.

I just read his feedback (diver7c). He got his first negative, as someone got a dead 1722 (ID1) and checked with MSI for warranty/repair and it was reported stolen. Most likely all the units he sold were hot and he's based out of FL, so they are widespread location wise.
Ouch.
If anyone has purchased a unit from diver7c, you might want to check with MSI, or like many people who get a good deal, continue on with the, "back of the truck" special.
The one question I have is if the buyer followed the normal warranty process and was informed that way? That means at least MSI is informing buyers when they go to register now. -
Since I am not in US I have practically no warranty once it worked. But I don't understand why MSI doesn't bite his tongue and accept warranty for all of them, especially if MSI didn't announce stolen serial numbers and declared warranties null.

I purchased a 1722 (937-1772219-004) from an ebay seller with limited feedback on Monday.
Hadn't heard from the guy so I sent him an email last night to get a ship date.
He replies back that Paypal is holding him up. They are requesting Invoices and Serial numbers for the part he's selling.
He assures me he has the invoice for the parts (and that they aren't stolen) and expects to ship on Friday.
He thinks the Paypal issue is because he's a fairly new seller that started doing a high volume of sales.
I figured I was just being scammed. After reading through this forum though maybe ebay/paypal
are looking into the "stolen goods" issue?
In any case I don't want to rip the guy yet until some type of resolution comes out of this.
I will say I don't have a good feeling though. -
At least if Paypal/eBay is holding things up.
I bet they may have also seized any funds in the sellers account if
the seller did not move them right away.
If they did, then you have a good chance that paypal/ebay will just void the transaction and refund you if the seller has stolen goods via SN#.
This way you could possibly avoid the claim process saving time. -
i have a freind (he is a police officer from out town) who bought a system from diver7c they brought it into me the other day because it would not turn on after they put it together. turned out they didnt seat the cpu right. while they were there i showed them these threads and they right there called msi and it was in fact a stolen serial number. they paid him off ebay via paypal becaue he gave them a better price i have no idea what they paid i didnt ask but i told them to contact ebay and they said they cant because they bought it off ebay. and now diver does not respond to any of the messages. paypal i pretty much saying they are sol because they bought it this way and they used funds in their paypal account instead of a credit card.
morel of the story as other have said always pay with a credit card even if its through paypal!!! now this guy and his wife (he is a police officer lol) are trying to find diver because he shipped it from florida and guess who will be getting a visit lol.. -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Even if I have funds available, I move them out and pay completely with a credit card for purchases.
What type did your buddy have? 1722? ID1? ID2? 1651?
And keep us updated on the, "visit."
Even with his new found negative, someone still bought an ID2 diver7c had listed and he has another one still listed. Some people don't care about the source, only the price....Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
it was a id2 version. and yeah he has already contacted the local police dept and given them the shihpping info and the ebay contact info on the guy... he said he will making a "formal" visit soon.. ill keep you all posted if i hear anything about it
-
I think everyone comes into agreement, pay with a credit card.
Yet, don't get some sort of false sense of security in doing so.
If the seller stated ALL SALES FINAL or something to that matter or a return window, even if stolen.
You can file for a charge-back with your credit card.
This will delay the need to pay the charge, for a short while.
But, once you have taken delivery of said product, and paypal/eBay provide sale details, the credit card is NOT going to pay for stupidity.
Since the charge-back will be filed against Paypal, paypal has it in their best interest to provide them complete sales terms & details.
Credit card companies look very closely at them terms of purchase.
If in doubt, call one of the larger banks such as BOA "Bank Of America
"and also read-up on the fair credit & lending act laws.
As a buyer, you also have a responsibility of commonsense.
The key with paypal and eBay is, Take advantage of the buyer protection.
Pay the little extra in eBay fees and keep the transaction within eBay...
This alone gives you a better fighting chance... -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
And I always say, "it never hurts to try."
If you feel you're in the right, use every means necessary.
And it is *very* easy to simply say the product delivered varied significantly from the description and/or was broken and that trumps, "All Sales Are Final," (personal experience with this one particularly and it does work).
Amex is *especially* consumer friendly, even compared to real Visas and MC's.
Some people just roll over and take it.............that's not my style. -
he spoke with paypal and paypal is now at least aware this guy was selling the stolen ones

I have MSI 1722 ID2 w/touchpad that I got from eBay . Using 2x2GB Gskill memory ,Intel P8600 2.4GHZ Processor (Not ES) , New 500GB WD Scorpio HD .
PROBLEM is ......While installing Windows XP+SP3 from CD I get BSOD after XP CD has booted and is done with the driver loading part . BSOD comes when it says Getting ready to start Windows Setup . So I fixed up a USB Flash Drive to install Windows+SP3 from and all goes well .....No BSOD ...........BUT it will not recognize my Hard drive . I plugged the Hard Drive up to my desktop through SATA cables and my desktop recognizes it fine !
I am wondering if I need to install some storage controller driver or something .
Anyone have any ideas ? -
Ok ..... Somehow I got it to work ......I had to disable some sort of hard drive thing in the BIOS and it does not ask for any 3rd party drivers anymore ....windows is installing from USB stick as I write ! Still not sure why My XP-CD locks up ....hopefully I don't have a bad DVD drive !
-
If you are installing XP, you need to disable AHCI in the BIOS. After that you should be able to install just fine from a CD if you have the CD booting up before your HDD
-
does the 1722 ID2 come with a backlit keyboard? If not, any way to mod it to have?
EDIT: oops...i meant ID2 -
-
no it is not backlit and no you can not make it that way without extensive work im sure

I do think eBay/PayPal is starting to flesh things out and actually require proof of purchase in this case because the charge backs they could potentially be hit with is going to be HUGE (imagine Donald Trump saying it).
With the dropping prices and need to clear inventory, I do think some sellers are selling legitimate low priced bare bones (in the words of a friend, "Remember, your cost is not always my cost...."). Even the complete configs via MSI are now $999 new. It is just a headache sifting through them now if it is a major concern (IE, stuff falls of trucks daily worldwide).
So far, all we know is Diver7c has sold at least one hot unit.
If people have been stung, it makes sense to say who supplied them so at least others can be aware theirs may potentially be at risk and if they want to (to each his own I say), they can follow up on their particular units.
But in NYG's case, if Paypal is asking for invoices and serial #'s and the buyer is providing them to validate his source (and it all pans out), that means some of the inexpensive barebones are legit.....
in other words.....ugh....
Now all we need is MSI to start selling the GT725 in a barebones format. I don't really see much of a difference between the 1722/720 (ID2) and the 725 besides a new GPU module and an extended battery pack so far. -
I've seen some references in here of at least one person that was going to buy a T9400 processor from extremeprocessor on ebay. How has it worked out?
Has anyone purchased a T9600 from him?
I have a T8300 that I plan on using, but I'm thinking of selling it and going with a T9400 or T9600.
