I am going to get this Laptop, but I am on a very strict budget. What would be the best, most campatible CPU for under $100 and where to get it?
-
Check the led indicators on the front, they will blink in formation, this will tell the error or the fault.
-
Anybody, who needs 3 antennas
Thanks, Carl -
Isn't there a possibility, where we can put e.g the cpu that work for an update?
I have bought at ebay an cheap T3200 (art. 250363136557)
At least the bios recognizes this cpu as it is.
I bought it for 46.02 Euro and after I upadeted my 1722 I would be willing to sell this cpu at this price plus shipping cost (in total aprox 50 Euro) to others to update their 1722.
CU, Carl -
Humm... by LEDS are you talking about the backlit symbols? I get a green battery and a blue crescent moon lit as well as the power button... no blinking and no beeping. They come on when I press the power button and dont go off when I press the button again. I have to pull the battery and the power cord to turn it off. I am going to pull the memory and try to start it and see what happens , same with hard drive to see it I can get some problem codes to pop up.

A question about temperatures. I have MSI MS-1722 with P8600, 4GB RAM, GPU 9600 GT.
Bios 1.0H, Win XP PRo 32 bit.
Is it possible, that for some reason this configuration gets GPU temperatures max up to 78C? This was when doing 3D Mark 03 at peak. Temps were usually between 70-75 C, oscilating, I guess the fan was changing speeds. (edit: both reported by hwmonitor and speedfan).
It makes me wonder, if temp readings may be wrong on GPU. 78C seems a bit too high, I've seen 68 C max. Or maybe this is not having vista with its power management installed...?
edit: it looks like i'm not able to regulate fan speeds. Is it old bios? -
does anyone know where I can download the drivers for the 1722?
I installed XP and the CD it came with seems to hang and does not install anything. I tried going to a few individual folders and it tells me that it is only for Vista. -
For drivers check the page for GX720. http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1521

Will this work...?
T5450 1.66ghz SLA4F -
Not sure, but check specs to make sure it is a 45nm chip. The others dont work or atleast not suppose to.
I am thinking my problem is memory.. I will wait till I get some new and different make sticks. I dont have any spares for a laptop... I do have 4 other sizes for the various other PC towers I have..... egads it can get crazy remembering what works on what. -
Well...i bit the bullet and bought a P8400
besides i can alway look for a 1651 down the road and drop it in there after i do the bios flash..hehe -
So, what is the problem for the blank screen?? Memory or the cpu?? I have a t9400.
-
Well...the overwhelming concensus...from what I have been told is...
Either your cpu is not seated correctly
or
You need a BIOS update. -
I'll try reseating first!
-
Ok! Took everything a part reset the cpu and still nothing. So, do I need to find an older penrym to get the updated BIOS?
-
does the laptop power on?
does it post?
does it beep?
does the screen flash? -
Power on: Yes!
Post? (no)
Beep....no
no flash screen
blue power button on
battery green
moon lit -
I decided to buy some new ,unopened memory on amazon.. some OZC I believe. I will try that first. if I still have the blank screen, then I will look for a 8300 chip and try it. if it boots then... I will then update the bios and try the T9400.. if it still doesn't I figure someone is selling us bad chips.
-
sounds like bios then... that is where i am currently stalled in my troubleshooting.
I am waiting for my processor to arrive so i can update the bios. -
-
I rad that also! What are we doing wrong?? Or is it the processor??
-
I dont know but you should ask him.
I personally am not using that processor. -
Hawkaroo35--= I have the exact problem with mine on 2 MS-1722s' . I also have a T9400. What model chip do you have? is it " FF 80576 Q4HQ" ? What type of memory are you using?
-
Sounds like we have the same problem!
Same Chip model.
OCZ 2gb 200 pin DDR2(pc2 6400) x 2
Same everywhere else except 250 GB Scorpio Black HD.
I am trying to track down a cheap Centrino Chip to see if that helps to update BIOS. I'll let you know if it works. -
Where did you get your chip? From china via ebay by chance?
-
I got a T7500 $101..... i read some where that it was a good cpu to flash with -
Colorado! got it from China...good price...hope it is a bios deal.
-
Looking at another thread, the T9400 is one of the original releases for this board. These should be working. Coloradonative I think we have bad CPU's.
Anyone tell us I am wrong. -
Which seller did you get it from Colorado? I am looking to get the T9400 from extremeprocessors on eBay for a MS-1651.
-
yep good deal.. but only if we can get them to work. Igot mine from " xiaobaiyang2" . He seems to sell alot of cpus. What about you?
-
I was thinking about getting a processor from xiaobaiyang2 but a few people here said that extremeprocessors chips worked great so I think I will go with them.
-
Have you tried reseating the CPU?
The screw that you turn to seat the cpu should turn about 1/4 turn, it kind of snaps as it seats the cpu. A few people have had problems from not turning the screw far enough. -
If you look closely at the socket there is a little lock you should turn the screw towards the closed lock, line it up with the little circle on the screw and it should be good to go?
-
According to my search and statements on extremeprocessors ebay page, it seems that others have Q4H4 (with possibly BGA->PGA added pins) and with stepping 4 as CPU-Z screenshot shows and he has stepping 6 (C0) and it seems to be reading temperatures and said to be retail-like.
-
Same guy in China. the more I look into this it sounds like BIOS!
I am locking with the little dot with the lock. I don't believe that is the problem.
I am actually going to redo again (3rd Time), we'll see. I'll let you know.
xiaobaiyang2 seems like a good seller. Hold on and let's see if Colorado and myself can get these things running. -
Set up a third time.
Turns on, fan going, HD going, no sounds, no screen. I am lost!
Anyone have a chip that we can update our BIOS with?? (all I can think of) -
Uh oh, I bought a t9400 es from the same seller. I hope it works. I should get it today or Monday. The auction itself didn't say anything about it being an es. I only determined that it was an es after purchase by looking closely at the picture of the chip and looking up the revision number.
If it doesn't work, I better be able to get my money back. Auction should say "engineering sample" bold at the top of page. He's trying to be deceptive to sell more cpu's. -
I agree it doesn't say Engineering Sample. By the way, what is the difference??
I am going to try to work with the seller to try to solve this. -
-
-
My brother just up graded his laptop he says he has the older chip. I will have to wait to see if it is an intel core duo. If so I will try that and if it works you will be welcome to borrow it. I am thinking Bios as well I have tried to seat this chip 6 times on 2 different barebones. If I turn this screw any more I think it will break.. So I dont think it is the seating.
-
Coloradonative you the man! I tried to do the same thing but my brothers laptop is older and not compatible. Does your Chip have the es on it?? If so I think we may have a beef. The ad on e-bay should have told us that they are engineering samples. Now I am beginning to see why they are cheap. But he does have a 100% feedback.
Let me know if you have any luck! Good Luck! -
I wouldn't say the ES is cheap. The retail is being sold for about the same price. It looks like I will probably get the processor on Monday. I will update you guys.
-
Inexpensive. All I know is that a few of us are having problems with them.
-
Just an update IF anyone is buying a T9400 from China, as of Feb 21st in his ad he does say these do not work in MSI laptops. As of Feb 21st! I put my claim in today through paypal. The seller is not cooperating. Be careful!
Beware folks! -
Man, that sucks. The saga continues...
-
I will be buying mine from extremeprocessors and I know there are a few on the forums with one of his in their ms-1651/1722
