You should have have the connector for that already. The attatched picture shows where it's suppose to go witht he 3 wires also hanging near it. I took this before I installed mine. My laptop didn't have those screws you speak of.

I am going to get this Laptop, but I am on a very strict budget. What would be the best, most campatible CPU for under $100 and where to get it?

Check the led indicators on the front, they will blink in formation, this will tell the error or the fault.

Isn't there a possibility, where we can put e.g the cpu that work for an update?

I have bought at ebay an cheap T3200 (art. 250363136557)
At least the bios recognizes this cpu as it is.

I bought it for 46.02 Euro and after I upadeted my 1722 I would be willing to sell this cpu at this price plus shipping cost (in total aprox 50 Euro) to others to update their 1722.

    CU, Carl

Humm... by LEDS are you talking about the backlit symbols? I get a green battery and a blue crescent moon lit as well as the power button... no blinking and no beeping. They come on when I press the power button and dont go off when I press the button again. I have to pull the battery and the power cord to turn it off. I am going to pull the memory and try to start it and see what happens , same with hard drive to see it I can get some problem codes to pop up.

A question about temperatures. I have MSI MS-1722 with P8600, 4GB RAM, GPU 9600 GT.
Bios 1.0H, Win XP PRo 32 bit.

Is it possible, that for some reason this configuration gets GPU temperatures max up to 78C? This was when doing 3D Mark 03 at peak. Temps were usually between 70-75 C, oscilating, I guess the fan was changing speeds. (edit: both reported by hwmonitor and speedfan).

It makes me wonder, if temp readings may be wrong on GPU. 78C seems a bit too high, I've seen 68 C max. Or maybe this is not having vista with its power management installed...?

edit: it looks like i'm not able to regulate fan speeds. Is it old bios?

does anyone know where I can download the drivers for the 1722?

I installed XP and the CD it came with seems to hang and does not install anything. I tried going to a few individual folders and it tells me that it is only for Vista.

Not sure, but check specs to make sure it is a 45nm chip. The others dont work or atleast not suppose to.
I am thinking my problem is memory.. I will wait till I get some new and different make sticks. I dont have any spares for a laptop... I do have 4 other sizes for the various other PC towers I have..... egads it can get crazy remembering what works on what.

Well...the overwhelming concensus...from what I have been told is...

Either your cpu is not seated correctly

    or

    You need a BIOS update.

I decided to buy some new ,unopened memory on amazon.. some OZC I believe. I will try that first. if I still have the blank screen, then I will look for a 8300 chip and try it. if it boots then... I will then update the bios and try the T9400.. if it still doesn't I figure someone is selling us bad chips.

Hawkaroo35--= I have the exact problem with mine on 2 MS-1722s' . I also have a T9400. What model chip do you have? is it " FF 80576 Q4HQ" ? What type of memory are you using?

Sounds like we have the same problem!

    Same Chip model.

    OCZ 2gb 200 pin DDR2(pc2 6400) x 2

Same everywhere else except 250 GB Scorpio Black HD.

I am trying to track down a cheap Centrino Chip to see if that helps to update BIOS. I'll let you know if it works.

Looking at another thread, the T9400 is one of the original releases for this board. These should be working. Coloradonative I think we have bad CPU's.

Anyone tell us I am wrong.

T9400 should work without updating the bios or firmware, yes.

Have you tried reseating the CPU?

The screw that you turn to seat the cpu should turn about 1/4 turn, it kind of snaps as it seats the cpu. A few people have had problems from not turning the screw far enough.

If you look closely at the socket there is a little lock you should turn the screw towards the closed lock, line it up with the little circle on the screw and it should be good to go?

According to my search and statements on extremeprocessors ebay page, it seems that others have Q4H4 (with possibly BGA->PGA added pins) and with stepping 4 as CPU-Z screenshot shows and he has stepping 6 (C0) and it seems to be reading temperatures and said to be retail-like.

Same guy in China. the more I look into this it sounds like BIOS!

I am locking with the little dot with the lock. I don't believe that is the problem.

I am actually going to redo again (3rd Time), we'll see. I'll let you know.

xiaobaiyang2 seems like a good seller. Hold on and let's see if Colorado and myself can get these things running.

Uh oh, I bought a t9400 es from the same seller. I hope it works. I should get it today or Monday. The auction itself didn't say anything about it being an es. I only determined that it was an es after purchase by looking closely at the picture of the chip and looking up the revision number.

If it doesn't work, I better be able to get my money back. Auction should say "engineering sample" bold at the top of page. He's trying to be deceptive to sell more cpu's.

your money is as good as refunded if u used paypal... look carefully at the listing and find "buyer protection" and click on it... u have 45 days to be satisfied that it is not "significantly different than described" in the listing... get with the seller 1st 2 c if they want 2 make things right... if u hit a wall with the seller start ur claim through buyer protection... it will take a while (abt a month) but u will get the buxx back...

Engineering samples are beta chips manufactured to help work out bugs with the cpu. A major problem with the t9400 es is that it cannot monitor its temperatures.

My brother just up graded his laptop he says he has the older chip. I will have to wait to see if it is an intel core duo. If so I will try that and if it works you will be welcome to borrow it. I am thinking Bios as well I have tried to seat this chip 6 times on 2 different barebones. If I turn this screw any more I think it will break.. So I dont think it is the seating.

Coloradonative you the man! I tried to do the same thing but my brothers laptop is older and not compatible. Does your Chip have the es on it?? If so I think we may have a beef. The ad on e-bay should have told us that they are engineering samples. Now I am beginning to see why they are cheap. But he does have a 100% feedback.

Let me know if you have any luck! Good Luck!
