I’ve had my GS75 for a couple weeks now and absolutely love it. One thing I’ve discovered is the AUTO fan profile, whilst quiet, is definitely not up to the job when loads increase.

I ordered my GS75 with a 2070 and a repast with LM. Everything is still set to stock values. Running P3Dv4 (cpu heavy flight simulator) with fans on auto, my cpu still hit 96°C!

With a custom fan profile that starts increasing speeds earlier, it now maxes out at 80°, even with a full load on the CPU and all six cores at 3.9 GHz. No need for cooler boost either.

I’ve kept auto fans as the default at startup, as it’s still nice and quiet for regular work, and just manually select my custom profile when running demanding software, although I have forgotten to change it a couple times. Because of that, I now run RealTemp at startup, with a CPU alarm set to 85° to remind me as a backup.

Well, first impressions are positive! quite smaller than my GT73, and so far feels smooth. Everything is very responsive, and I like the 144hz panel.

I understand the concerns with the rigidity of the system, though it was better than I expected. I don't think flexing will be a problem for me and I had no issues grabbing the laptop from one corner only.

I will play with it for a while, but I must order the extra 16GB of ram to have dual channel. I also gotta repaste, but I will do all that in a single go when the RAM arrives. Meanwhile I will play with it and start my review, then update it once I tweak it :)

I am liking it so far :)

Congrats! Looking forward to hearing your impressions. Loving mine. They've finally figured out how to build what I consider to be close to a perfect laptop.

Are you limited to buying from your country? Most resellers can ship internationally.

Well installing windows 10 from scratch was much easier than previous models. This laptop does a lot of great things, but I do believe the included SSD is too small for the price, even if it's a decent one. I bought an HP EX920 1TB for cheap (130dlrs after some deals) and it's great. Sure it's not top of the line but it's on the fast scale for nvme. If prices drop again around xmas, I might get a second drive.

Performance has been great. I am currently downloading games to test the beast... afterwards I will look into the whole 90w version of the bios and try it out.

It will be interesting to see how single channel RAM fares vs dual channel, onces the new DIMM arrives.

Returned my GS75 to Best Buy....then purchased it from HIDevolution for ~$700 less(2070 to 2060) on their promotional sale with repaste and extended warranty. Can't wait until it ships in. Warranty doubles to 4 years since I used my new AmEx + 60,000(~$1,300) mile sign up bonus on Delta for spending 2K....I'd say it's an all around good purchase.

So apparently the GS65 and GS75 are going to be refreshed with the 9th generation intel processors soon.

I've read that some people who tried to order the GS65 and GS75 were told that the 8th gen models are no longer available and they will have to wait for the 9th gen models.

    Interesting.
I read that the 9th gen is going for 8 cores in a 45w package. Honestly, I’m not even interested. Going from a 7700HQ to the 8750H was nice but the thermals were not. Cramming an additional 2 cores into a 45w package with a higher boost clock is gonna cause problems.
In this generation of laptops, we BARELY are able to sustain those high clock speeds. Our laptops do it better now than before but are still thermally constricted.

Depends if they go with a full 8 core processor without hyper-threading. That would definitely be something to consider then, since thermals will be just as maintainable as a 6 core with hyper-threading. Do you know the specs yet?

I agree with this. Even my older 6820HK quad core is still a powerful gaming CPU, these intel 6 core CPUs are more than enough and already run hot as is. I think the 9th gen (is the lineup revealed yet?) will be a refresh, and they will probably add the 8 core CPU variant as the i9 extreme for mobile.

With current 8th gen CPU performance, 9th gen is not as enticing. It's nice for new owners but not really an upgrade for current owners, imo.

    https://www.anandtech.com/show/13969/intel-details-new-9th-gen-cpus-for-notebooks-9980hk-9300h

Looks like some of the higher end stuff won’t have hyper threading but will have 8 cores. That will help with thermal management.

I still think the 6core /12 threads CPU will age better than 8 core 8 thread. But its a start. I do hope the new CPUs are not too hot for decent clocks. on desktops they are notably hot CPUs, to the point people actually prefer going with 8700K or full blown 8 core/16 threads with beefy coolers.

but 8 cores is not bad. The 9750H is going to be a great CPU for new users. I don't think the rest of the higher end lineup will be worth it unless you buy a proper monster with monster cooling haha.

A more recent leak of the i7-9750H (along with the mobile GTX 16 series) suggests that it's still a 6c/12t cpu, just with a higher boost clock of 4.5 on 1c and 4.3 on all cores.

Did a bit of testing with the 90W bios but it seems it got stock at base clocks no matter what I did, nor drivers. It always ran at 990 mhz core. I reverted to my stock vbios and it booster properly.

For the time being, I will keep the 80w bios. Now I did notice several scenarios with less than 100% GPU usage. I suppose I am hitting a hard limit, and my single channel memory is not helping. Will continue to check out.

Anyone got the original GS75 vbios? My SSD just died and my bios backup was there ha!

I want to revert to the original 80w vbios. The 90w just isn't working for me, I am stuck at base clocks of 990mhz

Today I repasted my GS75 with Conductonaut on CPU and Kyronaut on GPU:

Before, with CPU limit to 3.600 Mhz to avoid thermal throttling:

Now, no limits, 4.100 Mhz maximun two cores, 4.000 other two, and 3.900 the other, like the 8750H it is made:

    Huge improvement on temperatures

Those are excellent temps. I haven't repasted mine yet as I am waiting for the second RAM stick, but for the time being even factory paste surprised me - sure it runs hotter than it should but I haven't had meltdowns of over 90 celsius yet, despite near 100 F (36 C) ambient temps. CPU usually ran at high 80s when hammering it, and the GPU in the low 70s at max usage.

I can't wait to unleash the full potential of the machine. Even in games like Battlefield 5 with a single RAM stick and 70% utilization, I was still getting between 60 to 100 fps in the campaign.

No 90s yet?? I played PUBG at mostly medium-low settings and anti aliasing on ultra and my CPU spiked to 95C. That’s after a Kryonaut repaste and custom fan profile.

Been living with my GS75 for a little over a month now... really like it overall. Good screen, very quiet, extremely cool, light weight yet solid... nice keyboard (other than the delete and directional keys being a little oddly placed)... and works perfectly for my productivity use (no gaming). The only major gripes are the touchpad being in my way... would rather have the smaller pad since I use a mouse. When typing I notice it moving underneath my palm too much ... somewhat irritating. And of course the battery life is not anywhere near what is claimed... my Dell Latitude under the same use will last twice as long as my GS75... I'm lucky if I get 2-3 hours tops, while 6-7 on the Latitude is frequent. Battery life isn't a serious concern for me since I am generally in my recliner and connecting the battery cable is easy enough. On a scale of 1 to 10... I'd give it a good 8.5 or so. Overall the best 17" laptop I've ever owned, which is quite a few.

i was getting around 5.5 hours of 4k60p youtube video using Opera as my browser with the gs75 when i had it. around 4.5 hours doing some light CADing in NX. word and excel use with listening music in the background was in excess of 6 hours, but never actually got to test how long it lasted in that scenario. that kind of battery life is amazing for me, coming from a gs60 that has troubles lasting 2 hours doing nothing.

I think a triple fan setup would be better as the whole bottom part gets warm, not really a specific area.

Has anyone else had an issue with the webcam not working. It's only stopped working withing the last 2 weeks since the last time I used it.

Looked in device manager and it's saying:

"Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)

To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer."

    Under events tab it says

    "Device USB\VID_5986&PID_211C&MI_00\6&33b27fee&0&0000 requires further installation."

No new driver updates available, no option to roll back the driver update. Any ideas?

I am also very interested in this topic, but I have not found much information. I think it should be possible to activate Gsync but I do not see how. In fact I read rumors that MSI itself was going to activate it in some update.

It’s different thing, there’s “media“ between it, probably something with intel iGPU. I don’t think non adaptive sync (g sync/freesync) panel can be updated by software to have the feature. Some Zephyrus has already g sync panel that can be Switch with optimus like previous Sager Laptop.

Not so sure about that. I agree that most of the time it has to be certified by Nvidia but that's mainly due to licensing fees they collect to certify the panel and does not always reflect the panels ability to perform.

Exact. Gsync is how nvidia calls her dynamic media refresh rate. The question is how to activate it, it is strange that they launch it without further explanations. But it coincides with the rumors I had read that MSI was going to support it, yesterday I cited it.
