The only time it does that is when it's under heavy load, but it shouldn't do that when it's not. So it is a marginal thing even though it's not defective.
You should claim warranty since it is bothering you.

By marginal do you mean this has a high chance of worsening in the future?

Just for anyone who has a GS75 9SF, mine came with the wrong 80w vBios 885/1185. I raised a RMA with MSI and they immediately acknowledged that the 9SF (RTX2070 maxq) should have a faster vbios from factory.
They wouldn't share the vbios with me so I had to send the laptop in, but now my default clocks are 1080Mhz base / 1305Mhz boost, and my boost clocks in Time spy have jumped to over 1600Mhz with a modest +150Mhz OC.
I pulled the vbios with NVFlash and uploaded to my dropbox for people to use.

    Also uploaded it to TechPowerUp

    Greetings All,
Noob here from Australia who recently purchased a GS75 Stealth 8sf (2070 max Q). Just wondering if anyone know if the 90w vbios that Malus01 posted would work with mine?

    I'm Australian as well.

This vbios is closer to 95w, as it has higher clocks that a normal 90w version. Your 8 series CPU (which draws more power than my 9 series) may reduce any power limit headroom you may have but it should work fine, this vbios is also MSI GS75 supplied so it shouldn't have any adverse affects like loosing display port over USB-C like some other vbios do.

Look for a good nvflash walkthrough/gude and go for it, just make sure you backup your original bios first.

So I had some spare time.

U guys remember the advanced bios tweak where you change ac load line and dc loadline to 1 (default 180).

I compared that loadline 1 with max undervolt and loadline 180 with max undervolt.

Loadline 180 with max undervolt was the clear winner. Temps were a lot lower and as the operating voltage at 4ghz was lower as well. 1.14 vs 1.2v

So i managed to further tweak the cpu and gpu with a constant 1500mz @ .750v gpu when playing control/overwatch/apex legends. Temps do not go over 70 degrees. no artifacts or blue screen after hours of playing. Is this safe? from what i read 1305mz for a 2070 max q is recommended.

Seems like the GPU isn't getting sufficient juice. Perhaps an unlocked EC is needed for the 90W VBIOS to function fully, which is nowhere to be found?

A thing to consider is that loadline+undervolt is a lot less stable than loadline 1. The reason is that the dynamic voltage might reduce a bit too much at lower loads, resulting in unstable undervolt.

That being said, I use loadline 1 AND undervolt. My voltage is usually 1.15v. I know I can go further down, but I haven't done so.

Yes, that is my experience. At a loadline of 1 the voltage range was very limited so that limited the undervolt severely. At the stock 180 loadline the range was too big so a large undervolt would crash as soon as the prime 95 load is removed as the voltages would drop below what the cpu needs.

I eventually settled on 120 loadline and a -180mv undervolt. Runs prime 95 small fft at 1.07v. Temps settle at 84C under max fan. Pretty happy with it.

Gaming temps saw a much bigger difference since the cpu has more flexibility to run at a lower voltage when the load is light.

Thats is good info to know. I will try to see how low I can get with loadline of 1 haha. 1.07 is fantastic.

If anyone is interested in improved speaker sound quality on the GS75. I have an EQ profile you may like to try. I use Dolby home theatre v4 to apply the EQ.

32hz +0db (no effect, speaker cant reach this low)
64hz +0db (no effect, speaker cant reach this low)
    125hz +8db
    250hz +8db
    500hz +4db
    1khz -4db
    2khz -6db
    4khz -3db
    8khz -1db
    16khz +2db

Thank you very much, the sound improvement is spectacular with these settings on music playback. I had to download the Dolby from another site, on the website you put I had antivirus warnings. Thanks again.

Glad you like it :D ,it's the best I could do for this laptop.

The speakers on this don't go deep at all. The GS65/zephyrus speaker units (long rectangular 2w speakers, oem) have better low end reproduction. After eq tuning they sound a bit better than the ones on the GS75.

Yes, either the website, or tech support directly if the current release doesn't help with the issues then you can request a beta BIOS/EC/VBIOS from them directly.

    Good day everyone!

Is there any vbios for 90w rtx 2070 max q available? I have GS75 Stealth 8SF. I'm not sure if Marcus's vbios will work on mine.

If ever I flash his, will I still be able to use my laptop and reflash the original vbios after?

    Hey folks!

I’m super excited to join team GS as my brand new GS75 is set to land tomorrow!

It is the 9SF model packed with an i7 9750H, 32 gigs of ram and a 512 gigs of storage.

I’m not very interested in games or synthetic benchmarks but I’m definitely keen on throwing heavy 3D workloads and simulations (Houdini/Redshift/Blender) on it.

If you don’t mind I have a few questions about setting up the machine the right way.

    1.
For starters should I wipe the system clean and start with a fresh Windows install?

    2.
I want maximum control but as little bloatware as possible, and of course maximum stability. So what would you say are the absolutely necessary MSI apps?

    3.
What happens if I undervolt too much? Will it just hang or BSOD? Does a reboot resolves that?

I think that’s it for now. I should go to bed now. Tomorrow is going to be a big day! :D

    Cheers guys!

Hi folks, do the m.2 nvme drives overheat in this laptop? Do I need to get one with a built in heatsink? Is there enough space to put an aftermarket heatsink on? Thanks!

They don't overheat when running by themselves but when the cpu and gpu are under load as well they do get pretty hot.

No, there is no need to get an ssd with a heatsink nor will it fit. Just get 2.5mm thermal pads to transfer heat from the ssds to the bottom panel of the laptop. It makes them run significantly cooler.

Correction: They don't normally overheat but the heatsink needs to be removed and then replace with thermal pads. Which SSD did you have in mind?

    1. Not necessary, I've ran benchmarks comparing before and after a clean install. No difference. What WILL make a difference however is reducing windows tracking , telemetry, etc.
    https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10

    2. If you want battery charge level control there is only dragon center. If you don't need that, uninstall everything msi, then download msi silent option (skylake) for fan control.

    3. If you undervolt using throttlestop, undervolting too much will just cause the whole laptop to freeze. When that happens, just hold down the power button and Reboot the laptop. Be sure to create an autostart for throttlestop in task scheduler, it doesn't start on its own.

    Addition to #2:

You can install dragon center for the battery limiter, then after you set it up, you can disable dragon center from the task scheduler if you are planning to undervolt/overclock your gpu/cpu so it won't interfere with throttlestop and msi afterburner.

SilentFan is a good software also for controlling your fan speed depending on the load.

I bought several ssds over the past few days to potentially put into this chassis.

    I picked up:
    adata sx8200
    intel 660p
wd blue m.2 sata (for the one sata port)
    pioneer m.2 nvme
gammix s11 pro(i think this is the only one that comes with a heatsink?)

deciding which ones to keep for the laptop

Thanks a lot Seanwee for the useful info!
I got delivery yesterday and had a couple of hours getting to know this laptop. It is an amazing machine indeed, there's a lot to love in it.
I have a bit of backlight bleed which bothered me for like half an hour and then I didn't even notice it anymore.

I actually ended up not wiping the system. I just merged the C and D partitions and then cleaned up most of the junk. Dragon center seems to be decent enough so I decided to keep it. For now I'm fine with the Killer wifi as well. Everything seems to be in order.

Temps were worrysome from the moment I started up CoreTemp, reaching 95C with moderate tasks so I quickly downloaded Intel XTU and started testing and monitoring the CPU. Running the very first stress test in Sport Mode with Auto fan was a constant throttle fest but after a healthy -0.150 underwolt it went away completely which is super nice to see. Now under heavy CPU loads I have constant 4GHz boost and 81C average temps with tolerable fan noise.

I'm happy for now, but I have a lot of question marks floating above my head:

    - It would be nice to get the occasional 4.6Ghz boost, at least on single cores, but I don't know how. Even turbo mode seems to pin the max boost to 4GHz.

    - How to OC the RAM? Is it a good idea anyway? Will that give me a boost in performance?

    - I love the idea of ECO mode. It pins the clock to max 1.2GHz which results in 50C max temp without fans so it gives me a dead silent machine which is still enough for basic browsing, text editing, etc. BUT! how about letting it go a tiny bit higher in clock speed and temps and just a little bit of fan speed? I guess what I want is more granular control than Dragon Center profiles offer. What I need is precise fan and clock control with profiles. Is there such tool available for us?

    Cheers!

You can check ThrottleStop software for setting your Core 1 to 4.6ghz and the rest to 4ghz.

It offers profile saving also. Which is pretty handy if you have multiple settings.

For Fan control I suggest `SilentOption`

Cool! Thanks dude! I'll try those tonight.

Ideally I'd like to have three profiles:
    1. Silent - Just like the current "ECO" profile but maybe a bit better clock speed (the highest that can be reached with minimal or no fan speed).
    2. Work - High-ish performance (kinda like "Sport") with tolerable fan noise.
    3. Render - A.k.a: High performance mode, a.k.a.: F*ck the fan noise I need my renders quick! :D

    Thanks!

Does anyone know what 2. is all about? Is this something set in BIOS or in an application? I use Dragon Center, so I'd like to avoid installing Silent Option if the same settings exist in Dragon Center.

Hey guys, i want to put another 16gb ram stick in. CPUZ shows M471A2K43(C)B1-CTD. I can get a M471A2K43(D)B1-CTD on a black friday sale. Would they work fine together? Tried getting info on samsungs webpage but both specs are the same.

Adding copper shims does nothing and you won't even have the clearance for it. It is no substitute for liquid metal.

    You're adding another medium.

Heatsink -> TIM -> Copper Shim -> TIM -> CPU

    vs.

    Heatsink -> TIM -> CPU

There are cases where it does help when the heatsink doesn't provide good pressure and you have enough room for a shim. It may or may not cause issues with the GPU side as well since as a whole unit they're connected.

But it doesn't hurt to try! lol so let us know :D
