Interesting, i can not get my power button off amber. Havent made any changes other than use external monitor, which i can understand but without xternal monitor, still same. Can not get it to be white.

Also lost my gestures after installing latest version of synaptics........... sigh.....

Are you sure you have the GS70 with RAID? Otherwise, maybe it's the update that is for AHCI Mode: w8_E1771IMS.507.zip
Please, be careful and make sure it is the correct BIOS. Hope it works out.

Well, crap. I had .505 on there before. Tried to point .707 (raid version) which is giving me the above error. I decided to go with 507, seemed logical since i was coming from 505, but now no raid ... so it won't boot. I don't know why the machine won't take 707. Anyone have any idea? I'm stuck at this point... bios sees all drives, but cna't boot.

When the light is white, the laptop is using the integrated graphics. When it's amber, it's using the dedicated Nvidia graphics. When using an external monitor, the dedicated Nvidia graphics must be used. So your laptop is running perfectly normal.

edit: read your post wrong the first time. It should be white if no monitor is connected. All I can say is possibly updating the drivers.

    *argh* :-(

I probably had version 705 to begin with, and so could update to 707.

You had version 505, and so it seems one should update to 507 in that case; and this you have done. Strange that booting is not working now, though. :(

My guess is that the BIOS you now have is set to AHCI mode. Maybe changing this to RAID mode will solve your boot problem. (Also, could be the other way around.)

Bingo! That did it. I switched to ACHI mode and set it back to legacy mode from UEFI mode and it's up. Question i have now is... why would this system not run in with 707 to begin with? Since that's supposed to be the raid setup? Something for the xoticpc and msi i imagine.
    THank you!

I uninstalled my Antivirus and firewall. Surprisingly, the client worked... for like 5 minutes and it went back to the ultimate not responding loop. I have no idea what is possibly causing the issue now. Just bought a humble bundle, but unfortunately I haven't got the chance yet.

I recommend the following video drivers:
For Intel - 15.31.17.64.3257(thanks to FlakRocket)
For Nvidia - GeForce 326.80 beta (can be installed via the Nvidia GeForce Experience application that should already be installed - enable Beta updates in Preferences).

Hello I am new to the forum :)
I have a question about the msi gs70.
I am interested in purchasing this laptop, I wanted to know if anyone tried installing SSD hard disk alone and if the Procedure is complicated?
Thank you very much for your help.

I was also searching for a new laptop adapter for my GS70. I wanted to leave one at the university and one at home. Other than the one posted earlier by Cooler Master, I found two others that I may be willing to give a shot. Has anyone had any experience with these? May lean towards the USNA 120 due to its smaller for factor, however it's hard to find a retailer for it Q__Q

the procedure is not complicate at all. you just need to first create recovery DVD or USB drive and then remove all screws at the bottom, remove mSATA SSD and swap the 2.5" drive and use your recovery DVD or USB to re-image the drive.

According to the reply I received from MSI Support, it doesn't. It only voids it if you damage it. But opening it up for maintenance or upgrades appears alright. And it's in writing, so if they say otherwise if you have to RMA it, there's something in writing to back up your argument.

Anyone have problem with Radio Switch having a ? under device manager? The driver page on msi's site has a broken link. The Radio Switch claims it hasn't been configured. I am not even sure what the radio switch is. Turn wireless/bluetooth on/off?

I am running the GS70 with two external monitors and the laptop monitor active. While I haven't tested it, it appears that the laptop will support 3 monitors. Either 3 external monitors or 2 external monitors and the built-in display (That's how my HP Envy worked). Interesting that the two external monitors are running on the Nvidia card and the built-in display appears to be running off the integrated graphics according to the nvidia control panel under Set up multiple displays.

Has anyone else have problem with spacebar? I've looked into thread and wasn't able to see anybody.
My space bar has some dead spots, it works only when I press directly on a center. Left and right side of spacebar just not responsive. It's kind of annoying, just wondering if it's only my machine.

P.S. I bought mine week ago through hidevolution.com

Then there is something wrong with your spacebar key. It should trigger no matter where you press - have verified this with mine.

'I had the same problem. Right side of my keyboard had to be pressed really hard for it to register. I bought mine from a different reseller though. I first called MSI about it and they told me to reformat?? After a "slight" dispute telling them that formatting would not help my case I asked them to check on a GS70 they had. After being on hold for about 15 minutes (I have a feeling they didn't have one to check on) they said it was a hardware problem and hung up on me. I ended up calling the reseller and decided to RMA it. All in all, you may have to RMA it as well, unless you can put up with it.

And if anybody care, I've fixed my problem with space bar:
Just using paper and tape on a back of space bar :) I know not the best solution, but have no desire to return/exchange this great laptop because of this small issue:

Interesting. Mine has a warranty stick over a screw hole saying void if tampered with etc ... and i recall reading somewhere, a vendor saying the same, but warranty is not affected if they did the upgrade e.g. ssd. But that might have been a sales pitch. Cant recall the details.

Ok finally figured out that it was the WHS 2011 app causing my nvidia GPU to be on. Without these apps registering in the gpu monitor, it is trial and error of closing apps from the notifications to determine which one turns the power buttton back to white. At least you can add them to the nvidia app to use the integrated gpu.
