I have a couple questions about things that are happening on my laptop. The first is in regards to temps. The CPU easily gets into the low to mid 90s when gaming which is quite high, I know. I haven't repasted, but it's something I've thought about. Would you guys recommend going forwards and re-pasting my CPU and GPU to hopefully lower temps?
The second question I have is in regards to the keyboard. Sometimes, when I type, it'll insert characters I didn't type. At first, I was wondering if I accidentally had hit those characters, but when I thought about it, the finger that typed the last key wasn't too near to the key that was pressed. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Would this be worth RMA-ing to fix the issue?

No clue about the keyboard issue.

Hey all-
I just purchased a new GS70 from XoticPC and I'm really excited for it to get here! I'd like to know exactly what to do once it gets here, and I've tried reading through this thread, but 100 pages of conversation is a bit daunting to find what I'm looking for, so maybe some of you can help me out.
One thing I've picked up on is that the drivers on this thing are pretty crucial to optimize functionality. I've also read that it may be helpful to get beta drivers for some things. Does anyone have a list of exactly what things I'll need to update drivers on, and potentially the locations of those drivers?
I also know MSI tends to throw in some bloatware (like most companies, no biggie). This isn't a big deal because I have Windows 8 Pro that I'll be installing as a clean boot, so the bloatware will be deleted. My question is, what programs should I keep? I plan on having a list of the pre-loaded utilities that are worth it so that I can install them after the OS boot, so which utilities should I keep? I'd really appreciate any advice on this.
Lastly--anything else I need to know about setting this bad boy up?
Thanks everyone! -

For gaming use drivers from nvidia directly. That's about it for most people.

Any issues with the Intel 7260 AC WiFi with this laptop on Windows 7? I hear mixed things about Win 7 & Intel's 7260 AC adapter. -
Hi!
I recently bought a barebone version of the gs70, do any of you happen to know if it is only restricted to blue leds as I cannot seem to change it through the KLM.
More importantly, when updating the BIOS, do I simply boot using the flash or do I have to pre-prep the system? -
There shouldn't be a difference between the 001, 229, and 002 on the lights. Mine's red on boot up and switches to blue at the sign in page.
Download the appropriate drivers ahead of time for 8.1; Update via Windows Update: Update to Windows 8.1; Now run the Bios, Fan Table, and drivers after that's been completed - some are specific to 8.1.
Question - anyone find the sensitivity/speed selection for the touchpad after updating the driver? I'd like to speed it up a hair but I don't see that as an option in the settings menu. =\
Relatively new user on the GS70 and I've been enjoying it. I haven't run any intense games yet, but Shadowrun and The Last Remnant have worked just fine (The Last Remnant is a chunky goat from the 360 to the PC & Laptop). I need to pick up another mouse for Metro. -

Hey Guys,
I got my GS70 yesterday and I have a question:
Can you push in the aluminium case on the right and left side of the touchpad too? It just bends a little bit. I was just wondering if it is normal or if my GS70 has some processing errors there. -
Has anyone reinstalled their GS70 with Win7 x64 instead?
Just wondering to see if any others have or not... -

Try it on battery mode. -
Does anyone have any idea how to fix the mDP properly? I'm using mDP to VGA, hooked into a KVM switch in my office, and if I have to put the laptop to sleep and wake it up every time I want to flip the KVM I may have to hurt someone...
Alternatively, DARCOM, which cheap mDP adapter did you get that was working without issue for you? -
its not loud, you have to put your ear close up to the power button to hear it most of the time. it doesnt bother me, i just would like to know if its safe or could it turn into something failing. -
Hello gentlemen. I just jumped on the newegg deal with tv. Which is the MSI GS70 2OD-229US RT. I did the break down guide to the x775 and received a lot of great feedback. I'm going through this thread and hopefully will be able to contribute in the future!!!

Hey guys, GS70 looks like an awesome laptop!
The dragon log is a bit off-putting though (I need a more business-look notebook)
Do you guys know if it can be removed or is it permanent?
Thanks -

Hi,
my Space Bar is squeaking, can I remove it on my own to fix it? Or do I have to send it in for repair? -

Hi guys,
I'm new here on these forums, but I am scouring the web right now for answers. I had a banding issue with my GS70 when I first bought it. I really didn't notice it at first, but it affects gradients with darker grays. I sent it in to MSI, and they shipped it back with a new LVDS cable, same issue. I sent it back again (this time they paid for the shipping) and they swapped out the LCD panel. I just got it back today and it is still having this issue....
So I created a little HTML file that has a gradient background of the affected colors. Here is what it looks like on my display:
You can't totally see the banding (It's hard to catch on camera) but those lines roll vertically across the screen for the first few seconds and then stop moving. There is also color variations along those lines (yellowish).
I'm trying to figure out if this is a common problem or if it's only me... they've swapped out the LVDS and the LCD panel... It doesn't show up if I plug into an external display.
I'm a little mad that I haven't had my laptop in about 2 months, and I get it back for the second time and it still has the issue. My $80 cheap desktop monitor doesn't even do this. I would expect more out of a display on a laptop that costs this much.
Anyways, if some of you guys want to try it out and let me know if your displays are doing this, it would be greatly appreciated. I uploaded the HTML file to

I 2nd what bubz said, cover it up with your company logo. I couldn't find our logo in sticker form, so I used an Intel i7 sticker instead. I was less worried about the dragon, but didn't want the 'Gaming Series' visible. -
With the new update of Blizzard's new Launcher, my Diablo 3 game no longer runs with NVIDIA, and somehow can't change it's default graphics processor, not even within NVIDIA settings.
does anyone now how to fix this?
other games set in NVIDIA didn't change thought, it's just Diablo 3 with its new launcher
thanks -

it works with forcing it to open with NVIDIA though, but it would be better if it'd be set in default -
Has anybody actually tried it on their display? I want to know if I'm the only one having the issue. -
Not sure if this helps but keep us informed. -

I think you are mistaking the type of material used. There is a difference between Glossy and Matte. It isn't so simple to have a screen that can avoid the effect of glare. One would never notice this unless they are looking for it really. Most people who use computers for graphic work use Glossy screens in a controlled environment to avoid said glare. This is a Gaming laptop and is intended for portable use in multiple unpredictable environments. Can't compare them as if they are the same thing. I reproduced the same effect you are seeing on 12 different laptops of various price ranges. Find an electronics store that has access to internet on their display models and give it a test yourself on the Matte models.
Like all technologies, there are advantages and disadvantages. One must weigh the benefit of one versus the other and decide from there. Glossy screens are also one other thing as well, they weigh more. It might have been one of the things they considered when they were trying to advertise this as a lightweight Gaming laptop. I honestly wouldn't notice it without actually being close and actively looking for it, as with most people. The previous laptop I had has a glossy screen and it didn't have the "issue" but it is a far worse screen by general appearance. It is also has at least twice as much weight as this one has.bubzers likes this. -
I think unless you play outside under bright sunny conditions, glossy with wider gamut support is the way to go. I got GS70 with Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Glossy Screen w/ 90% NTSC Color Gamut (AUO149D), I believe stock Matte is like 60% and, man, this is one of the nicest, if not the nicest screen I've ever used. Even better than gorgeous Vaio AW (RGB LED) and Dell U3014. Glare is not a big of a deal for me as I do not use it outside, color calibrated it with Spyder Pro and it's one eye candy. Banding, what banding?

I just purchased the MSI GS70 from Newegg this past Wednesday and it's awesome!
However, I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 and prior to the update, my power switch did change from white to amber but now it stays amber. I know the color change tells you whether you are using the Intel or Nvidia graphics and I have tried going in to the Nvidia Control Panel and setting the integrated graphics as the preferred graphics processor but it is still amber. It only changes to white for a second when I first turn on the computer but then goes to amber and stays amber. I searched online and found that maybe updating the BIOS will fix this but I am unsure whether or not I should update my BIOS to the current Windows 8.1 version listed on the MSI website because I am not sure if I am still using a Windows 7 BIOS version. The computer came with Windows 8 installed so I am assuming it's a Windows 8 version but I don't want to risk bricking my computer. My BIOS shows that I'm currently running the E1771MS.509 BIOS version and the 1771EMS1 Ver5.05 EC version. I would like to upgrade to the w8_E1771IMS.70E BIOS version. Can someone tell me if I can proceed with the update or if I need to install a different version before??
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, guys! -
Well, the BIOS version is dependent on model. There is one for the GS70 model that comes with SSD Raid, and one for the model that doesn't. 70E would be the raid model, and 50E is for the non-raid model. You can check in the BIOS screen it will tell you if you are running a 70 revision or a 50 revision. So for us to be sure, help us out and provide the info on the GS70 model you bought. It will be something like GS70 2OD-xxxUS. Where xxx is replaced by the rest of the model number. You should have updated the BIOS before you did the Windows 8.1 update, but it will still be fine.
Also to note, the laptop will come shipped with a Windows 8 UEFI BIOS version by default. The one on their site is in case you wanted to install Windows 7. On a further note if playing games using the touchpad and keyboard together, with the Windows 8.1 update Microsoft added a delay for the touchpad in case you might be typing. I found it a nuisance and changed the setting to No Delay. -
Also, the BIOS versions listed on the MSI website are not only for Windows 7. There are Windows 8 and 8.1 versions listed ( MSI Global GS70 STEALTH). -
It has a selection to sort by OS version, but the Windows 8 and 8.1 are both the same. You will need to update to the 50E version as it is the one for your model. Be sure to follow their step-by-step guide.
-
Once you finish your bios update, you may need to reset your EC as well to get the amber/white nvidia led working properly again - to do this, power down the laptop, unplug it from the AC adapter, and then push a pin into the tiny hole by the right side usb ports and hold it for 15-20 seconds (this is basically disconnecting the internal battery temporarily - on a laptop with an external battery, you'd just remove the battery for a bit), plug the laptop back in, restart, and you should be good to go.

Both packages contain DOS/WIN flasher so you can update them in Windows with least hassle.
1. BIOS -> Run FLASHWIN.BAT, make sure UAC is disabled and run as Administrator.
2. EC -> Run AUTOFLASH or WINFLASH.
AC adapter must be connected prior to flashing. -
Hi guys,
Should receive my GS70 today, looking to swap the 2.5" drive for a bigger one, would a 15mm height one fit please ? (WD Green 2To for example)

So just to make sure I am understanding correctly, I can upgrade to the 50E version from 509 without any problems, right? And how can I tell if my current BIOS version is a Windows 7 or Windows 8 version?
Also, this morning I installed a driver update from NVIDIA and my power button is now changing colors as it should, however, my bluetooth is not working. I uninstalled the Killer software and reinstalled it but it is still not working. Any ideas? -
According to leaks from Clevo and other companies the Razer Blade Pro 2014 will be housing the GXT 870M. Does anybody have any information as to whether or not the 2014 GS70 Stealth or GS60 Ghosts will be using the 870M or the 860M? I initially figured the 2014 Stealths would stick with the 860M, but if they want to be competitive with the blade I would hope that they are using the 870M.

Hey everyone. I finally decided to purchase the GS70 stealth. I know the GS70 pro is coming out, but newegg had a deal for $1650 and couldn't help myself as I needed the laptop pretty fast due to my freelance development work and my laptop has gone up. I was wondering other than removing bloatware and updating drivers (especially when I upgrade to 8.1) if there is anything I need to do to make this laptop run at it's best with the least amount of heat (This is stock thermal compound).

Your BIOS is compatible with both Windows 7 and 8/8.1.
Try pressing Fn + F9 and see if BT comes back. -
MSI Global GS70 2PE Stealth Pro
Mentions having a GTX870m. First time I have seen it listed on there. It seems to be getting a wireless card upgrade as well as a higher wattage AC adapter, probably to make up for it. Doesn't seem like this model is available to buy as of yet. I couldn't do that Razer one, the screen is just too damn small.
As for the hard drive question, I noticed when I replaced mine with this one:
TOSHIBA MQ01ABD100 1TB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive - Newegg.com
It has a pretty snug fit. The old drive had a space padding as it was pretty thin. It is 9.5mm, I doubt anything thicker than 10mm would fit. Best way is to measure yourself though.
Mine has been running pretty quiet, but I use a nice laptop cooler to alleviate some of the stress and keep it cooler. I'm using this one:
Amazon.com: Cooler Master NotePal X3 Laptop Cooling Pad with 200mm Blue LED Fan (R9-NBC-NPX3-GP): Computers & Accessories
Has an extra USB port and adjustable speed for the fan. Also buttons to turn it off and on as well as the pretty lights. Due to the size of it, it lines up with the vents pretty well.
