I tried updating the fan table, So i downloaded the file from the MSI webpage and I ran Autoflash.exe
Afterward the computer completely shutoff and the battery LED was blinking red. I turned it on and it kept blinking, didnt actually know what it meant, so to check I unplugged from AC making the computer shutoff again (I then realized that meant the battery was not "connected"). I turned it on again and everything appeared normal but I am not sure if I wil have problems in the future. Is this normal? the computer shutting down after running autoflash.exe and the led blinking red? Was it a mistake pulling the plug on the laptop? I was freaking out!

Weird question, anyone know where I can get the GS70 024? (Buying for my boyfriend, so please don't be too harsh upon my lack of knowledge with computers, SSD's and other special components)
I see it on the MSI site, but I can't find it on even Xotic PC, it's like they don't offer it. It's the one with the 870M graphics card :x
Thanks! -
Thanks for the reply bubzers . I looked in the bios and didn't see anything for fan/voltage. Is there a way to handle this easily? Do i need to flash the bios which I don't have much experience doing without an ez flash utility.

Updating the fan tables requires a Firmware update. You can find it at the GS70 product page at MSI website.
Both are easy to do. There is a guide to undervolting somewhere on this forum. There are instructions on MSI website for updating the firmware.

Hi, new user chiming in!
I have just recently bought my GS70 and haven't played any games on it up until now. I know a laptop gets hot when gaming but my GS70 gets hot in the wrong places. I want to lean the lower side of my hand palm on the bottom left corner of the chassie so that I can use the WASD keys and when playing it almost gets so hot it's unbearable. When running games I always put something under the computer so that air can flow freely there but it doesn't help.
Do you have any suggestions on how to cool the computer further? Using an external keyboard would work but then you would lack out on the mobility of the laptop and I'm quite sure an external keyboard doesn't fit in my laptop bag. Please advice -
I suppose you could try a cooling pad. You could also try undervolting the CPU - not related to the hard drive heating up, but my help to lower overall temps inside the chassis.
The hard drive is rated to some crazy high operating temperature, though, so it shouldn't be much of an issue (other than comfort). I recently moved my Titanfall installation there, so I'll be curious to feel mine, too.

Your left hand will suffer second degree burns playing Titanfall, I have it here as well but I haven't installed it yet

Also, second degree burns is a bit dramatic. How many trips to the hospital you take so far? -

Just noticed there is 2 new(ish) utilities boot configure and dragon gaming centre on the msi site ( MSI Global GS70 STEALTH) the later one is quite interesting but is basicly a system monitor
-
Boot configure is weird, I've tried it but uninstall later, didn't get what it does anyway. -
So i haven't really done any gaming on it, but I have done some 5 minute stress test (processor was staying at 96-100% usage) and it was reaching 91C. I have seen people mention undervolting, but it appears that the thread about undervolting is more suited to dual core cpu's where this is a quad core. And per the throttlestop thread no way for the newer i7 quads to undervolt. Can anyone guide me as to how I can undervolt as I want to reduce the heat as much as possible. Thanks for the assistance.

Hello guys!
I've been following this thread for some months. One of the reasons I got my GS70 is this thread, haha.
Anyway, I've been having some problems with my laptop. For some reason whenever I download large files or start updating games, randomly I get a dpc_watchdog_violation BSOD on win 8.1. I'm pretty sure this has been discussed and it's a problem with the LAN Drivers, but I have already updated to the last drivers many times and I still have this issue. Is there something else I have to do or do you guys know what is the problem?
I'm on WiFi most of the time, never really tried to use it over LAN cable to check if the problem persists, but I'm really tired of not being able to get it to work.
Any tip will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! -
Hey guys,
I've had my GS70 for almost two months now and I'd love some advice about the only issue that is really bothering me --> My GS70 is almost always super quiet, by its normal noise level its almost impossible to tell that it is even on. But every so often the fan at the top right of the keyboard goes nuts! It starts up out of nowhere and just gets so loud it sounds like the laptop is about to explode. This event usually lasts 2-10 minutes, I don't game on this laptop yet and almost every time the fan has gone crazy - the laptop has been in a very relaxed state with barely anything running. Typically it is sitting on a glass surface connected to an external monitor with VLC player running a movie, or Google Chrome opened with just a couple tabs. Sometimes it goes wild when I'm not even using it, Is there something I am missing, does anybody know whats going on?
Also if it helps I know that when its plugged into my external monitor it is using the NVIDIA card 100% of the time. And it has not happened while running any demanding CAD/CAM programs.., which just confuses me more. Help!
Thanks in advance! -

Keep Task Manager open and have your list sorted by CPU usage. Maybe you'll get lucky and see whatever is causing it. I'd do this, but I never remember to do it before leaving it to idle.

I just tried installing the new bios 70E following the instructions twice, each time I get a message in bios that the new bios file is wrong size, I have been using an external usb hard drive, would that possibly be the problem?
tried twice, each time navigating through directories to the bios update file without problem until that wrong file size message.
i'm using GS70 2OD (Stealth) with updated windows 8.1, I downloaded windows 8.1 bios file as per instructions, has anyone else had this problem? -
Make sure you are using the correct bios file. Which one you need is depending on whether it is a 50 version or 70 version. Look in the bios and make sure you have the correct one.

You need the bios from your original os, not the os you are currently running. The os is not impkrtant, it's the type of bios they each ship with that is different.

so new question, in my work faster is better when editing video files, so I have the 50E version which came with only one msata ssd, just updated bios and either way it seems this bios supports RAID
so my question is, am I really limited to 256Gb with the sizes of the msata ssd's I can put in RAID configuration? I understand I would need to do a clean install, where are instructions for that? and I guess I would need to make a usb disk with the install?
also, I understand they talk about 900mb read speed from RAID, is that the configuration that basically uses two identical drives to write to and read from at the same time? is that raid 0? I don't want to lose files I'm working on, is the raid 0 safe? -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
You need to set up a disk array first in the RAID utility, then install it through DVD drive plus USB flash drive with RAID driver included (if Win7, use USB 2.0 ports only).
Otherwise, if you have the WinOS installer built in the flash drive, then just add the driver in there then you are good to go.quantumrider likes this. -
Hey Kevin, do you have any advice about my fan issue? (on page 108)
I do have the firmware with the new fantable update which is probably why its usually silent. Just can't figure out whats going on when I have no programs running and the fan goes wild :/ -
is there any way to preserve my extensive customizations to 8.1 or do I have to do da dance again?

Hello, i recently bought the XMG C703 which is a rebrand of this laptop and wrote a review here
-
Hello,
I hope that you could help me to resolve my problem and thank you in advance for your future support.
Since like 3 weeks, when I boot my computer which is installed Win8.1, and after I enter my account's password, it's like stuck with the logo which turns in circle non stop and the word Welcome.
So I can't go through it then I can't access to my desktop. I do need to shutdown my PC and reboot in order to hope to open my session.
I do appreciate any help, thank you very much.

Is there any way to modify cpu fan speed?
In idle I'm in a 48-52°C range, when I do simple tasks such as web browsing or watching movies I reach 60° and the fan starts spinning at 3200rpm,is it normal or I should get the notebook replaced?
PS: I already updated the latest firmware -
Hey guys. I just got the GS70 and I was wondering if anyone knows or has the best cooling pad? I'm not experienced enough to open up the notebook to change the cooling compound so thats out of the question for me. I play a lot of games and i have to cut it short or fan the . I'll take any suggestions but i would love a USB powered cooler. Thanks ....94-95°C in furmark test
-
Did someone try to edit the fan table in the firmware? It could be enought to raise the threshold from 60 to 65 degrees since I have this random spikes in this range of temperatures,or in alternative lower the speed of the fan from 3200rpm to 2000rpm. The temperatures on full load (after 15min of Prime95) are good (85°C)

Looks like the problem is fixed now. Installed the last beta drivers for killer lan that MSI put on GS70 page and also used KILLER CLEANER to leave nothing of the old drivers. Looks like its working as intended now.

Has anyone cracked this open and checked out how the video hardware is connected? Is it a standard MXM, or a BGA mounted directly on the main board? I love this laptop but I've found the gtx 765 to be somewhat lacking. The new version of this is coming out with a gtx 870, and I'm trying to determine if it would be possible to buy a card on E-bay and swap out my 765. The power requirements seem to be close enough to warrant an attempt. To me, paying 700 dollars for an mxm card would be preferable to buying a whole new GS70 and then going through the hassle of trying to sell my current one.
edit: Plus, I have a lot of stickers on the lid from shows I've gone to, and I'd like to keep them : <
Edit 2: looks like it's mounted right on the main board. Oh well. Nevermind. http://kleontev.ru/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/MSI-GS70-Stealth-disassembly-4.jpg -
I tried to lower the percentage but then the fan starts and stops every 10 seconds,so I assume 2200rpm is the lowest speed -
Thanks! -

If anyone is looking for the 765M version of the GS70 (not worried about the 860M or 870M), the prices have fallen by another £100 in some stores in the UK today.

How to configure the P1 (FN+F4) key? I don't find any option in the system control manager

Is anyone else experiencing issues with the USB ports, when a device is plugged in it continues to connect and disconnect non-stop?
I need some help figuring out where the problem actually is, here is my situation - I use the two USB 3.0 ports on the right side of the laptop almost 100% of the time, one has a USB dongle for my wireless mouse, the other has a USB dongle for my wireless keyboard. Both of these devices have never had any problems or stopped working while plugged in, which makes me want to believe that there is nothing wrong with those USB 3.0 ports. BUT whenever I plug in my externally powered USB 3.0 HDD into either of the ports, the device will connect and then quickly disconnect - over and over and over again until I unplug the device, this makes me believe there is a problem with the USB 3.0 cord. But when I plug the same HDD into either of the USB 3.0 ports on the left side of my laptop (with the same cord), the device works perfectly.
Is anyone else having issues like this? Does anyone have a suggestion or solution for this problem?
Any help is appreciated, thanks! -
I was killing myself trying to solve the problem for a week, google for "Windows 8 USB 3.0 issue", basically it's related to new smart power management and the fact that Windows 8 is using native, not Intel driver for USB 3.0. Out of everything I've tried the the only thing that worked reliably for me is just turning USB 3 off in BIOS. Then I just got myself new (latest and greatest with UASP support) HDD docking station, no problems since.

The one that didn't work was my old Thermaltakeusa » Storage » BlacX » BlacX Duet 5G : BlacX Duet 5G ST0022U
I believe it's just old USB receiver chip that does not recognize new power saving protocol. BTW, my HDD died in a process, could be a coincidence but I tend to believe it was because of the power cutting off at the wrong time. -
