I just ran 3dmark vantage on the performance preset. No OC = 15084. With OC = 18048. Heres a link to my score with OC NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700HQ,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-1771

So our graphics card essentially becomes a gtx 770m!

Just ordered my GS70. Newegg has their specific model with the 500GB hard drive and 12GB of ram for 1200 open box.I had to google to find it as it is only showing sold out if you follow links on their sites. Meaning it will post tomorrow and they go fast last time they lasted a day and I missed it... Not this time :)

Yes, I don't see why not. I'm using MSI Afterburner with all the sliders cranked up. As long as your temperatures stay below 85C it should be fine.

BTW looks like this is the highest valid result for a single 765m gtx score on the 3dmark ranking list. Just goes to show the potential of our beastly laptop!

I'm really tempted to try this but i'm scared that this will shorten my nVidia GTX 765m graphics card life.

I've updated my BIOS now although the BIOS dated is 03/12/2013(even though the site says 17/12/2013)? and the fan noise hasn't gone down at all in idle. And I downloaded the latest version...

    Anyone got any clues?

This is what it shows after flashing

How did you keep your temps so cool?

Have you repasted? What are your idle temps by the way (CPU)

I haven't repasted or done anything. I think one contributing factor is that the temperature in my house is 15C. Idles around 30-40C

Hello. Recently got the GS70 (earlier today). I was wondering if I can revert the firmware back for the fan floor? I went and updated everything in the Windows 8.1 update page. The fan does indeed work less, but I do not like how it stops and starts now. It appears I am hovering right around the new floor.

Also when I ran the firmware update the fans went on the fritz and after restart my battery light was flashing red. Pulled plug when it came back on since the light was still flashing, but it shut off immediately due to a power lsoss. Windows sees the battery but the light is now off.

I'm having a problem with the BurnRecovery, it doesn't seem to detect the flash drive I've inserted.
It required me with a 14.2 GB flash drive and i'm using a 14.9 GB (16GB), so i'm guessing its enough.
I've formatted the flash drive and all but the Program BurnRecovery doesn't detect it.
can someone help me with this?

I've posted this in another thread under Accessories, but just saw an official msi gs70 thread so just wanted to ask..

did any of you gs70 owners had a problem with a keyboard USB? specifically razer blackwidow tournament edition where it says "USB device not recognized" full description of my problem is in this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/accessories/741219-razer-blackwidow-te-usb-not-recognized.html

I've came to conclusion that the fault is in my laptop and not the keyboard, assuming driver fault.. but still cant go around it :S

PS: in response to janbolim about BurnRecovery, yea I also had the exact same problem with a usb 3.0 Sony 64gb flash disk

EDIT: most of the solved answers I found was to unplug my laptop and remove the battery for few mins, only problem with my laptop is I cant remove the battery as its built-in.

There's a reset switch on the right side toward the front which acts the same as removal of battery.

yea was wondering about that, but its only a reset doesn't actually unplug the battery, does it? so I can let the power discharge completely from the laptop

EDIT: tried it, didn't work :'(

It does reset the battery, because the EC version will change to the one you just updated to after reset.
Without doing the EC reset, the EC version stays the same.

Did you test the keyboard with every USB port?

what does EC version mean? and yes tried it on every port, all the same unfortunately. thinking maybe a corrupted driver when I first plugged it in?

EDIT: Solved! it appears that razer blackwidow tournament edition does "not" function with OS Windows 8 with intel usb 3.0, in which case our laptops is made this way (unless its win 7 or Microsoft can use their own drivers for the usb ports) or so that's what they explained to me. However, razer blackwidow ultimate 2013 works and the store kindly replaced my keyboard with another version. compatibility sure sucks

Just got one of these, trying to put windows 7 on it and get rid of windows 8 all together, I have windows 7 on a bootable USB drive and have changed the BIOS to UEFI with CSM, when I hit f11, I chose the jump drive and it will either boot the hard drive and boot to windows 8 or it will just go into the bios, if I have the windows 8 drive not as a boot option. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

where could I get all the old BIOS and Firmware versions for the GS70?
The updated fan table firmware results to boost the fan up and down. Normally only while playing games the fan is boosted in that way...

    thanks & regards,

What game are you playing to only get 65C on CPU and 57C GPU?

When I game (DOTA 2) my temps for my CPU can go up to 80C and GPU 70 - 80C also, granted I am gaming on my lap/duvet which probably doesn't help

I have the single SSD version of the GS70 - just bought a Samsung 128GB msata SSD to add as the second.

Before I change it into RAID-0 I wanted to make sure the SSD was okay (is a refurbished one). I just installed the SSD, booted up (no changes to BIOS or anything) and I can't see the new drive in Win 8. Is this to be expected? Do I have to make a BIOS or driver change for the drive to be recognised?

Just a tip - if you are wanting a quieter laptop and less heat you can disable your cpu from going into turbo mode by limiting the CPU maximum state to anything but 100 in the advanced power options... (e.g. 99) - fan spins up much less and I cannot notice a difference in performance in games..

I saw someone post that having an SSD instead of HDD saves ~30min of battery power, is that true? That would bolster the use of this laptop even more =)!

If so I'm thinking of replacing the 750gb HDD to a ~240gb SSD. Not sure which one is the best, too many options from xoticpc.
My other option is keeping the HDD and getting a second mSATA SSD on slot 2, but I would like to get some opinion on what's the best options considering battery power and speed (I have an extra $500 to toss in so storage capacity isn't a problem for me.)

I just got my GS70 (dual SSD) a few days ago. On battery, I updated drivers and installed various software for about an hour, then played Binding of Isaac (lightweight game) for two hours straight, and still had about 25% or so left. BatteryBar reported another hour left, too. Battery life seems pretty good, as is. I have been thinking about swapping out the HDD for SSD. If I do, it won't be for power savings on battery.

Yes, SSD does consume more power than HDD but you won't have concern about vibrations that may potentially causing bad sectors to your data.

Aw, the only reason I was considering SSD over HDD was for less heat, and I thought SSD used less power too. Guess I'll just be sticking a second msata SSD while keeping my HDD. Or maybe swap HDD with a 128gb SSD too...ugh I hate my indecisions.

P.S. Those who tried it how's the speed going on using super raid vs single SSD on the stealth? (Their custom x2 mSATA SSD)

    Hi,

Is anyone else having trouble getting the build-in microphone to work?

The computer recognizes the microphone but I can't seem to get it to record any voice.

Am I missing a driver or is it just faulty?

    Anyone help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Hello everypony, has anyone tried using the recovery partition on their notebook yet? I haven't needed to use mine but i cannot find the windows key sticker that you usually find on the machine so am unsure whether i need it or not. Is there supposed to be a sticker on the device or is it filled in automatically when you recover? I want to dual boot Sabayon/Manjaro linux and windows but given the raid and everything want to be able to recover my windows partition easily if it all goes wrong.

Also am I totally missing the obvious disc drive or is it just incredibly short sighted that they put a driver cd in the box?

There are 2 types of recovery methods available to reset your PC.
    OS Recovery
    F3 Recovery via BIOS

Additionally, you should create the Recovery DVD media using MSI BurnRecovery utility.
Press Start key, and then search for MSI BurnRecovery utility, then you can execute it and follow on-screen instructions.

So they don't give you the key with the system?

This seems problematic if one loses their recovery partition for whatever reason.

Oh well, I guess ill get a portable hdd tomorrow and just image my os drives.

They no longer provide the key per Microsoft's new guidelines, since Win8 will pick up the key automatically from the BIOS therefore you won't even need to write it down and enter it manually at all.
Once the correct OS is restored onto the HDD then it will become activated once the system connects to the internet.

With the 001US version I bought the 128GB Plextor PX-M5M SSD on 2nd slot. I hope I made the right choice. I heard horrible stories about the 128GB Samsung PM841 model, and on xoticpc the other 128GB model is just called 128GB Solid State, not really sure what model that is.

I'll also switch out the 750gb HDD for another 128gb SSD in the future to save some battery power & more speed. Ahh, can't wait for it to come!

All manufacturers provide driver disc even when the machines don't have an optical drive. This is not to give customers a dead end without other options.
You would need the disc for convenience reasons if you were going to reload the OS in places without (fast) internet connection, however you could copy the files onto USB HDD from the DVD on other computer, or acquire the external USB ODD.
