can we configure the touchpad controls? I lost my "two finger scroll control" when I updated the drivers and its the that function that i use most often (yep, more than clicking and moving the mouse).
i was wondering how i can reconfigure the touchpad so can do it again, and if i could, how?
I was hoping that i wouldn't have to resort to restoring the old driver, i kinda like the feel of the touchpad after the update. thanks for replies!![]()

Ok, so the trigger is pulled!! Arriving on Thursday for when I get back into town from working so I'm excited but I have a little trepidation. I've read every post in this thread and on some other sites too and I have a little list of things which I'm a bit worried about.
Fan noise
Squeaky shift button
Spacebar deadzone
Insane temperatures
Creaky lid
Other keys moving when some are pressed
I've read about some users having one or more of these problems and I guess what I want is for an owner to tell me that he ( Is that sexist? I doubt there's many chicks with this laptop) has no issues whatsoever so I can put all those down to quality control and hopefully my system will be ok. If there are things inherently wrong with it I'll be a sad bunny.
I read a lot about the fan noise, however that issue seems to have gone quiet recently (pardon the pun). Are you guys sick of posting about it or has a bios or something fixed this?
I have a kick self built desktop at present for home and an old M17 with dual hd3870's in it for when I'm at work. I love my games a little bit too much than a 31yr old should probably dare to admit and I know this isn't top of the range but it should keep me happy right, right.....RIGHT!!!!???? Christ I hope so. Now I'm not trying to show off but the old M17 cost me about £3100 (yes, British Pounds) around 3 maybe 4 yrs ago and I knew that was a lot then. This seems, well pretty cheap for a machine which should outgun it. Is that just the tech coming down in price or is there a fair difference in quality or some other factor which I'm missing? By the way I was seriously unimpressed with the M17, various issues but that's an old story not to be retold here.
Of the currently released games I aim to play mostly Skyrim, Rome 2, COD Ghosts ( maybe, DL'd but not tried yet) and a bit of Bioshock Infinite. How will these games fare?
Anyway like I said excited but nervous.
Wish me luck and thanks for any responses. -

Congrats on your purchase! Hope the system works out like you're hoping. I can answer a couple of your questions...obviously your mileage may vary, but we've had 2 GS70's...the first one had a stiff ESC key, but otherwise keyboard was good. The GS70 that I have inherited from my wife has no keyboard issues...no squeaky shift key or otherwise and fan noise is not bad at all (but that's a matter of taste also in regards to what some people consider loud)
Both of our GS70's ran hot when under graphic load (games or anything using the Nvidia card). No instability, but definitely hot on lap if that's how you use the machine.
As far as games, haven't messed around with Skyrim or COD Ghosts, but I can tell you that TW Rome 2 and Bioshock Infinite will run native res on high. It's a very solid gaming laptop except for the heat from the chassis on the bottom.
Again...hope you get a good machine. Take care!

I'm in the same boat as you - apart from the fact that I bought this laptop the day it came out.
Im 30 like games way too much than I should or my spare time allows.
I play Skyrim on it and its great, Not absolute max settings but not far from it and at native res.
I have had zero issues with my laptop.
I am extremely sensitive to noise and love my hi-fi - fan idle bugs me a teeny bit, but with all thats thrown in with this laptop and for the price - I would buy it all over again.
The only thing i will note is the screws on the bottom of my laptop got a little loose - im talking very slightly, but it made the laptop make a slight creaking noise when picking it up, so I tightened the screws and again it feels as solid as a block.
Hope this helps, for the record I have the 128gb version - thinking of upgrading to 256gb for as a games drive... but I really shouldnt..!

i have a squeaky shift key. its not squeaking right now thought which is weird.
and i did notice the gpu gets hotter than the CPU way hotter. like super hot. i couldn't keep my hand on it for more than 5 seconds.. but i also had a second display up. this is during bf4 Ultra, and D3. other games it doesn't heat up as bad.
there could be remedy's in previous posts but i haven't checked this thread since it was 15 pages big. -

GPU's always are hotter then the CPU. You'll especially notice it when you're doing all those GPU demanding programs like you mentioned. If you want to know if they are running at a safe level get a program like HWMonitor to see what the actual temps are.

Has anyone tried installing another mSATA SSD *not* in RAID mode?

We have installed many brands and in RAID or Independent mode, either way works.

Hello guys, I just bought this beauty but I have a major problem. Basically all I did was I got it, updated to 8.1, updated bios, and installed steam and codeblocks (C and C++ IDE). I downloaded "The Lord of the Rings: War in the North" from the latest Humble Bundle, and tried to run it. Everything is fine, runs very smooth (didn't check exactly but surely more than 60fps) but after a few minutes... boom. PC just shuts itself and reboots. No BSOD. No errors. Just plain reboot. I decided that it was either a problem with the game (I knew, deep inside, that it wasn't), or overheating protection kicking in. Then I downloaded Skyrim and ran that. Beautiful, running smoooth, and 5 minutes in just... boom. PC dies again. Now, I haven't checked temperatures, but I am 99% sure it's overheating, even though I was using it on my lap in a pretty cold room... any tips on how I should proceed? I bought it off an italian site (I am Italian), and it took quite a little time for them to even get it and then ship it to me, so if I can find a way to fix it on my own (I am computer savvy enough) I'd rather do it than RMA. Any ideas? Should I try to replace the thermal paste on my own with some overclocking paste? Halp!
EDIT: This is getting weird now: I tried running Skyrim again, same res, same settings, but windowed so that I could check the temps meanwhile. No problems whatsoever, GPU didn't get hotter than 70C, cpu didn't get hotter than 45C. Seemed pretty good, and it didn't even crash, and I tested it for a long time. But if I put it Full Screen it just reboots itself after some time. What could be causing this weird issue? -

Also, inspect the Hybrid Power utility to ensure that the system can draw additional power from your battery (in combination with AC). If it can't, it should just throttle, but maybe something quirky is going on. (I didn't install this though after a clean Windows 8 install and haven't had any issues with gaming off of the Nvidia GPU) -
Switching from Legacy to UEFI boot without reinstalling Windows?
Recently I bought a GS70 STEALTH
Since MSI Original was installed with, in my opinion, lots of unnecessary programs so formatted the hard drive and installed my own Windows 8.1 x64
In the bios, I can choose between UEFI, UEFI Shell and Legacy boot.
But I could not choose UEFI because did not find either the hard drive or
my external DVD so got to choose the Legacy boot.
Now I wonder how I can change back to UEFI mode without reinstalling Windows? -
Also remember that if you do open your laptop, it may be very difficult to return under warranty. -
Just purchased a MSI GS70 on Saturday, not really a fan of Windows 8. Could someone help us out on a step by step instructions on how to remove Windows 8 and install Windows 7 instead? Also would it void the warranty if I proceed to do this?
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
1. You will need to switch UEFI mode to CSM or LEGACY mode in the BIOS setup via DEL key.
2. You may need to purge the HDD using diskpart clean command to erase the existing GPT partition.
3. Install Win7 clean.
You can also refer to the guide below from eightforums.

In addition to the above, when I do buy the laptop, could I in theory remove the 2x mSata SSD's and the mechanical "storage" drive then just put in a full size SSD into the location where the mechanical drive was? (I have a spare 512GB Samsung 840 Pro that I would like to use for this) - This would also be a measure I'd like to take to reduce as much weight as possible. Or, alternatively, could I just remove the 1TB mechanical drive from it (because I have no intention of using the mechanical storage) or does it have to be there for any reason?
I appreciate any response with regards to these questions -

Regarding your 2nd question, it can be done as well. -
WARNING: Do not purchase this notebook (or anything from MSI).
MSI is refusing to repair my GS70 laptop after only 2 months of usage. The screen has blue artifacts when the screen is supposed to be white and red fringes when the screen is supposed to be black. This is not a dead-pixel problem as it only appears under certain conditions and is not static. Buyer beware. -

hi,
i bought this notebook and every thing is great.even the fen
there is one thing that annoying me.the keyboard led. its always turns on when booting and when waking up from sleep.
is there any way to turn it off or something.
thank you -
Hello, I have the GS70 and I really love it. I got it modded from Xoticpc with laser etching, an extra 512ssd, and a 7200 1TB hdd and it screams. I had problems with the screen when it arrived (cable wasn't attached properly) and the touchpad was super flakey. MSI replaced these and the entire motherboard. It took a while but runs beautifully now.
I run Linux Mint, Windows 8 for games, and I just installed MacOSX 10.9 on it. See my guide macosx guide here: How to Install MacOSX 10.9 Mavericks on a MSI GS70 Laptop - OSx86 10.9 (Mavericks) - InsanelyMac Forum
For the curious, boot times: Mint = 8 secs (SSD), Win 8 = 17 secs (SSD), MacOSX = 38 secs (HDD)psyauto and Kevin@GenTechPC like this. -
does the program start bluestacks do anything important? it auto-runs when i turn on my laptop and i think it takes about 4 GB partition for apps, would it be fine if it were to deleted? xD
not really sure about this, wanted to do a clean install but i'm no tech genius so that forces me to delete the bloatwares manually. -

This is the Clover bootloader screen, needed to boot MacOSX (yes two bootloaders to get to MacOS, too lazy to fix it...). Sorry poor quality, it says "Boot Mac OS X from MacOSX Partition"

Has anyone figured out how to adjust the LED status blink rate or brightness when it is asleep? Like someone else in this thread noted, the thing is a strobe light!
Unrelated, the mSATA SSD drive used on my MSI GS70 is a Toshiba THINSNF128GMCS ( https://storage.toshiba.eu/cms/en/hdd/industrial/product_detail.jsp?productid=467) -
But wouldn't adjusting this be a bios setting/modding or something? It doesn't seem like it would be software controlled. -
Can anyone assist me?
Thanks,
Jack. -

You can also right click on "Computer" pick "manage" then "disk mangement" find the 1TB disc and assign it a letter/path, typically E: or something along those lines. Windows just doesnt have a letter assigned to it since you've reformatted. -

I don't think I'll need the 16gb ram when 12gb looks more than enough, 500gb good enough I have (1TB and 2TB external i can use via usb3.0), but the point is will 128gb ssd do justice for games and if its user-upgradable ? -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
I typically install games on the HDD as they only benefit from the mSATA/SSD during the game start and map load times. In game play the faster drives don't really help.
You can add the second mSATA driver later yourself.LycanNyc likes this. -
Hi all,
Have had my GS70 for a few months now and have been really impressed with it. Development, gaming, graphics work, has handled it all like a champ. However I've never really left my desk with it because I haven't had the need. I try to run it on battery every so often so the battery gets a workout but I swear my battery life is pretty shocking, as in maybe 2 hrs of just web browsing. Reading on here it seems others are getting 4 hrs.
Is there anything I need to do to get the most out of my battery? Battery configuration? Some setting somewhere? Will it help if I update battery or bios? I haven't done any updates other than what comes through the live update so no BIOS or firmware updates.
Any help would be great because I'd like to hit the couch or the cafe with the laptop but at the moment the battery isn't lasting long enough for me to make it worthwhile. I'm not expecting too much, just what others are getting (around 4hrs of light use).
Any pointers??
Edit: I'm on Win8 and using the single SSD non-RAID0 version of the GS70 (although I'm thinking of whacking another SSD in there soon, one thing at a time). -
Now everything is smooth sailing, so far these past 2 weeks with this laptop has been up and down.. Firstly, I live in Western Australia, the only retailer shop that stocks up with the GS70 had one in store, PLE. I bought it, got home and unboxed it, everything was good except for the space bar, it has a tad squeakiness and stiffness to it when pressed down. Same as the other blokes shift key video, but mines with the space bar
.
I also have noticed the fan noise is noticeable when doing normal usage, e.g Facebook, or anything light. During in game you should be focused enough not to notice the fan noise.
It does get a bit wild with the temperature side, to the point it's habit that I put my hand on top of the keyboard grills left and right side to check if it's hot.
Other than that the laptop is a solid beast, chops my old Asus Lamborghini VX7-SX performance wise, i haven't tried the battery life yet but pretty sure it'll hold up for 3-4 hours judging by the feedback on this thread.
Overall 7/10 MSI, I'm impressed. -
Hello .. Is it ok to charge MSI GS70 stealth while using it?
and it is ok to continue charging even it is full while using it ?
tnx to reply . -
Hello to all,
I am a new owner of a MSI GS70 Stealth for few days ... absolutely love this laptop except the fact that my display is not showing me the correct colors while on desktop ... green and yellow are completely crazy ... in games i don't notice anything weird, but when i use it for picture editing i don't even know what colors i am using ...
Can anybody please help me with the correct color settings for this display? I never had to calibrate my display before and have no idea what to change. I also don't own any calibration devide so skip this suggestion.
Would prefer a color scheme to just load... if it's not much trouble for somebody who calibrated his display and want to export it and email)
Anybody else noticed wrong colors in desktop / web?
I am using default Win 8 instalation. -
hi everyone
I am considering buying msi gs70 w/750gb HDD & 128gb SSD, what I am wondering is does the OS Win8 come installed on the ssd or the regular hdd? -

Recovery partition is on the HDD (Standard 2.5" SATA).
Once you get the unit, then be sure to generate Recovery DVDs using MSI BurnRecovery shortcut on the desktop before you play with OS modifications.
All drives are upgradeable.LycanNyc likes this.
