Honestly, not really. I have had more problems with the 8.1 update. Driver reinstalls and laptop still won't go to sleep right now. Most things are stable finally except bluetooth rarely comes back after hibernation.

This is such a great laptop, but msi needs to fix scm and push killer to deal with bluetooth issues.

I noticed the other day that when I'm playing Diablo 3, everything is on besides AA and shadows, my screen starts to get SUPER choppy like the GPU is failing almost... very odd, but it mainly only happens when I open my inventory or map... kind of odd.

I think it has something to do with the temp being 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

Also, when i go to turn the LED keyboard brightness up, it fades the blue into an ugly light cyan-ish color. Anyone else have a terribly dim-lit keyboard?

If you wanna prove you're not full of it, post a screenshot. Until you do, I don't think we can believe you. I've never had mine go above 95C for the CPU (which is still REALLY hot) and ~80C on the GPU (which is hot but not as bad). No history of throttling though.

Not doubting your throttling issues (and I realize that's not funny when it happens to you)...it's the 300 degrees Fahrenheit part. If you google that, the first result is joyofbaking.com.

Like I said. haha I think my GPU may be messed up from this one time occurrence. Ever since then, it never gets hotter than 90ish C

And the fan never kicks on. lol

Lemme run shadows at max and see what happens.

I believe your software isn't reading your temps right...no way your hardware would survive 300 degrees. Not saying you're not being truthful...saying that there is obviously a measurement not being reported correctly.

Thinking of buying this rig for running engineering software with the ability to do some gaming away from the desktop.

Anyone actually use this laptop on battery? What kind of battery life do you get with typical non gaming activity (browsing, excel, word etc)?

Thanks for the quick reply. Newegg has a 128gb SSD, 500 GB hdd, 12gb ram I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on. Seems like a good deal at that price point.

I had researched HWMonitor, and it is one of the better and more accurate programs out there...

It was weird anyways when it was reading those temps, because the fans were working SO hard... for what seemed like no reason.

This weekend, I will do a good several hour game session and have both HWMonitor and Real temp running... hell I may even try and borrow a Fluke temp gun from work.. though it will only read what the exterior is reading..but worth a shot.

hi, i'm new here. just got my GS 70 like a week ago.

i'm having latency spikes from time to time in games like Dota2 and Diablo3 so I downloaded the Killer Network Suites and when I tried to install it, it prompted me to uninstall Qualcomm Atheros Killer Network first.

Not sure what either one does but I was hoping to get feedback from you guys on which would be best to do? thanks~

What kind of router do you have?

Also, I know in Diablo 3 has been having some latency issues lately. It's a known thing lately.

Download and save the driver to your desktop first.
Remove existing driver, reboot, install the new driver, reboot and verify.
You can try to ping google IP address for like 1000 times, or try another online game to verify.

a PROLiNK router, it came with the internet provider.

would "remove existing driver" mean I should delete Qualcomm or just the drivers?

Thanks for the fast replies guys! :)

Hi, new owner here. I am also have issues with ping during League of Legends, and other games. I have uninstalled and fresh install the latest driver on the ''Killer'' page. Still having issues. Any help? Is there a certain driver anyone else uses that works for them? I just got my GS70 yesterday and need to figure this out! Any help is much appreciated!

Try exiting the killer network manager in the task-bar, or looking into what priority that game has on the application.

I have tried exiting the Killer network manager, no help. And the game is set to high priority. I believe this unit has issues. I think I will return it.

It also works perfectly fine on a wired connection. I only get erratic pings on wireless.

Not yet, but I will tonight.

Okay, so update, I downloaded every driver I could find, and tried every single one of them out. The one that works for me is ver. 1.0.35.1027. I am getting very nice pings through both wireless and wired connections. I will chalk this one up to driver immaturity. Aside from this issue, my GS70 is awesome! Temps are so low! Able to play league at highest settings with no issues now!

Just got my GS70 about a week ago...loving it so far....except for one issue. As soon as I got it, I went ahead and did the upgrade to Windows 8.1. I didn't have a chance to test the Bluetooth before the 8.1 upgrade so I just assumed it worked. However, my Bluetooth seems to be a bit buggy. Specifically, when I tried to connect to my Jawbone speaker, it would connect and then disconnect. I would never get a successful connection. Finally, I went out and reinstalled the Killer drivers and now it works.

However...if I go into SCM and try and toggle the Bluetooth off and on, I get a .NET framework error. I have reboot the laptop and/or reinstall the Bluetooth drivers to get Bluetooth again. Anybody had issues with their Bluetooth and any suggestions? Just doesn't seem like I have it setup right just yet.

I disabled SCM in task manager. You can turn bluetooth on/off from windows PC settings. I have not been able to get SCM to work consistently in windows 8.1. Bluetooth has been more reliable without it. Although i haven't had .net errors. Are you running the latest SCM(13.013.09262) from msi website. Even the new killer drivers from their website are not working great. Bluetooth rarely works after sleep/hibernation.

Under pc settings from the right hand slide out menu there is a pc and devices menu option that allows you to turn on and off bluetooth. I just leave mine on personally as the bluetooth 4.0 has a low energy (LE) capability.

    Just want to post
    2 month owner
    Use it for travel
    Work
    Games
    Movie watching

Basically I am very happy. Have stated with 8.0 and the newest drivers. I get about 4 hours doing work/VPN office on battery.

    Battlefield 4 is fantastic.

    Overall I am
Impressed. I guess the quality control varies alot.

So that means if I put Lite On Plextor M5M 128GB mSATA Solid State Drive (PX-128M5M) in the empty slot, I can make my own super raid0 after changing some bios settings?

The charger should stop at 100% and start charging again when dropped to about 95% so no greater effect if connected or not.

There is no magnet, I think the hinge is just particularly stiffer (kinda slams shut on my unit) but I have the same issue if I hold the laptop at the hinge it wont stay perfectly closed.

There is a magnet to detect when the screen is closed but it's not designed to actually force the screen shut, there will be a slight gap.

On the subject of closing the laptop, dose anyone know a way to configure the touch pad to switch off when the lid is shut? Often it starts touching its self even when I am not moving the unit.

I have the best laptop ever, IMHO. I use mine for work and games so big gaming rigs are out.

But... Anyone any idea if we can turn down the brightness on the front LEDs.

I think we all know that the laptop is on / charging / hard disk working.
At night they are a real pain. Especially watching movies or emailing in bed.
