Hi guys, I bought a ge63vr rf recently and my fps on

Overwatch Ultra is under 80 sometimes 40.
Pubg on any settings 115 on lobby, 25 in waiting area and 30-60 in game.

GPU usage in Pubg lobby is 90+, in game under 50%. Is anyone having the same problems? My games are unplayable!

    GPU temps are low 70's
CPU temps are mid to high 70's

My BIOS and EC are both updated to the latest versions. The newest EC version is from january 2018, but fan behaviour (at least for the CPU) is the same.

I asked about the fan problem in the MSI forums (local+global) and some people have the same problem (constant up and down of the CPU fan, even with 0% load on CPU + GPU) as me and some don't. Can someone confirm this a little bit more official?

Before I claim RMA, it would be nice to know, if this is a fan failure or a questionable design choice of the manufacturer...

Have you tried cleaning up the fan and housing thoroughly? It's probably dirty, and perhaps needs repasting of thermal compound.

Thanks for the answer. The GE63VR is brand new and just a few weeks old, its super clean inside (just like new)...

The fan up and downs are not thermal related, it occurs at low and high temperatures (even with undervolt). There is only one way to get the speed of the CPU fan steady and thats activating the CoolerBoost. But this can't be the solution!

It's possible that the ambient temperature can cause this to happen because not all regions are equal. It's also possible that the fan itself is defective due to marginal issue associated with manufacturing.
I have to bring Svet up again since he was able to *fix* such issue with a revised version of EC firmware that may be more suitable for you to use rather than the stock version. Perhaps you can check with him directly over there at MSI forum. :)

My brand new GE73VR is doing the same thing. It can't even do the Rise of the Tomb Raider benchmark High steady at 60fps. It gets in the 40s in the middle scene (the temple).

Comparing this to my AW15R3, its so much slower in game. AW15 does have 7820HK, but for comparison purposes, I'm running it at stock and locked to 3.4ghz to match the 7700HQ.

    3dmark is very very comparable.

    3dmark FS:
    GE73VR
    13350 - 18416/9757/5318

    AW15
    13047 - 17287/10421/5301

However, when I load up Rise of the Tomb Raider, and even just load my last saved game, the AW15 can keep it right at 60fps. The MSI GE73VR drops to 40.

I could understand Optimus causing a little drop, but 20fps?

according to some people yes. I'm playing Pubg right now with a friend

His PC: 1 Stick of 8GB and 1060
My Laptop: 1 Stick of 16GB and 1070

His runs 40% faster. I have the faster Laptop.

Initial testing seems to confirm this! I took a stick out of the alienware and it dropped to the performance of GE73VR! Unbelievable.

I wonder why that is? could it be a 1070 thing? my friends 1060 with one stick of 8GB beats the crap out of mine.

Ive got the GE73VR open, and two sticks in it. But Denuvo locked me out of rise of the tomb raider for 24 hours so I can't report verification for a while yet :(

Also, you're mixing different ram sticks and brands right? Its still runs OK?

While you're installing, is what happens with mine.

    High settings

In the lobby, I get over 90% GPU usage - which is great. - Around 100 FPS
While in the 1 minute waiting area I get 30-45% GPU usage. - Around 25-30 FPS
In game Around 30-60% GPU usage
Plane drop scene I get around 25 FPS

Confirming on my tests. Dual Channel makes all the difference.

Oddly, I'm not seeing it in pubg, but definitely in Assassins Creed Syndicate. AW15 with 1 stick - 55fps, g73vr with two sticks 70fps.

I'm convinced beyond doubt it is the culprit.

My brand new GE73VR has a broken RGB in the left half of the space bar. Green does not work so any color involving green does not match the keyboard. This is a shame because otherwise, I really like this computer. I'm a perfectionist though, so this will cause it to go back to newegg. Ugh and I just figured out the 2 channel issue with the 1070....

And what ram should I buy to my GE73 VR? Can it be some 8 gb or it must be 16 gb for dual channel works? For me 16 gb is enough but I want more fps in CSGO than 110 average

Just peeled that huge disgusting front sticker next to the CPU sticker. Laptop looks much cleaner now!
    Next stop: The red stripes!

Just to chime in, I also get imperfect RGB switches. But does that matter for me? Nope, I've made a custom triangular wave with RGB colors moving horizontally and I can barely see the color inconsistencies.

How does one fix micro stutters on a unit? I already am on a clean install and have disabled most of windows annoying stuff with O&O.
It's incredibly frustrating when you're watching a movie in vlc and you see the microstutter while trying to enjoy the movie...

EDIT: I solved it myself by changing Nivida image setting in Nvidia Control Panel from all the way up to quality to all the way down to performance!

That will still not fix the issue.

Open Nvidia Control Panel, "Adjust image settings using preview", and keep that Nvidia logo open (minimize it).
This will keep the dGPU always on and you'll never see those stutters again.

I'm a new raider owner and the RPM of my cpu fan is pulsating up and down for around 100RPM all the time. I tried everything in the dragon center, updated the EC and BIOS and I'm still unable to get a stable fan speed, like I'm used to from other notebooks...

It seems like I'm not the only one with this "issue".

Do you have the same fan problem or is your notebook absolutely fine?

Can someone please check this for me?
Lift up your laptop while its ON from the front. And with the help of flashlight check the small vents of the speakers/ woofers. Can you see them vibrating/moving even when there is no background app/sound or music played?
    P.S. It stop moving/vibrating when its on mute/sleep/shutdown(obviously).. Model no - GE73

I increased my volume to max and did not play any audio. I believe I see them vibrating, and the vibration ceases when I mute. What prompted you to discover this? My speakers are not giving me any issues.

Hey guys quick question. Is it normal to get 92 degrees on some cores while stress testing your CPU in IETU?(GE63VR) (temps didn't get that high when I just bought the laptop)
Note: I have the laptop for two months now, but I use it literally 14 hours/day.
Could it be that there's already dust inside?

Please tell me how to proceed

Regarding this problem, would it be a bad idea to blow compressed air through all the air vents? (I really do not want to open a 2 month old laptop yet)
And if it isn't a bad idea, do I blow through the intakes first and then the exhales?

Use a needle or a paper clip into the bottom grills to hold the fan steady so it does not begin to spin.

Has anyone been able to lower their refresh rate to 60hz on the built-in monitor? I've tried using CRU and intel graphics utility and no success. The intel utility always gives the exceeded bandwidth capacity message and with CRU the created resolution never displays in the adapter properties. At this point I'm thinking the monitor is just incapable of it, which makes it annoying for those games that cant go fullscreen unless they're on 60hz monitors, like DS2.

    Thanks for your reply Papusan.

My max temp before the compressed air at boot:
    94 degrees
    Max temp after compressed air:
    67 degrees

That's a 27 degrees difference, simply by blowing some air through the air vents!

From now on I'll do this as soon as I hit 80 once, or at least every 2 months.

Welp guess I gotta return my second ge73vr since no one here seems to have battlefield 1 and can tell me if 40 fps on ultra is normal. I don't remember my first ge73vr having such low fps
