-130mV is way too high of undervolt. Expect random crashes here and there. What's your clock speed anyway?

are you using external monitors? I believe the displayport and HDMI are directly connected to the GTX card so if there's a monitor connected, it will always be active
    ==============
So far so good with my GX63VR 1070, however, only issue I'm noticing is with the CPU temperature. When playing, usually spikes to 70 C (range is 60C to 70C). Not constantly at 70, but frequently spikes. If I turn on the coolerboost (max fan), CPU temp is near 60C and almost constant. Most of the time, the CPU is the one having higher temperature spikes than the GPU. Wondering if this is the expected/normal condition when playing (with regards to the CPU). Or if I can still improve it (fyi, I already undervolt the CPU).
    ==============
Also, just to share, I encounter BSODs when I forgot to set the power profile to Turbo or Sport when I play a game. If the profile is in Eco or Comfort, the games sometimes crash.

You haven't got a response because people don't just have a temperature gun laying around. I can't confirm if it's 45c or not. It's fine however. Never had a problem with it. Not much I can tell you besides it's really a none issue.

Only hot spots I've really got are towards the middle on the bottom, and just between the spacebar and touchpad. Everything else is pretty comfortable for the most part.

Honestly, my only complaint with this laptop is the fans. They put out good cooling, but they seem like they are just a bit too loud for what they do compared to my old laptop. (Though my old laptop also ran a lot hotter all over). Hopefully in a future coffeelake model, they also redesign the fans a bit to be a bit quieter.

Well of course I did not ask for exact temp results from a temperature gun... I just asked if the heat on WASD area annoys you, thanks for the reply though.

It's nice to hear that, thanks for the information.

I just ordered a GE63VR 212 with spec weight of 4.8 lbs. I just received the box and it weighs 11 lbs. What could possibly weigh so much in that box? Is it because I have a GTX 1070 in there?

    https://hothardware.com/news/intel-cpu-bug-kernel-memory-isolation-linux-windows-macos

FYI, seems like there's a serious Intel bug and fix will affect CPU performance. Not sure if this will have any significant effect on laptop performance once MS release their patch (also not sure if this will be mandatory on consumer PCs or just the servers),but if you notice any CPU performance issue after the patch in the coming days or week, then this will be the culprit.

Hi guys, I'm a new member and would appreciate your help. I need a new gaming laptop mainly for CS GO and also some AAA rated titles.

I have zeroed in two models (no other brands available in India). Both have exactly same price, so please help me decide.

The main issue in my region is hot weather (reaches upto 40~45C ambient) and though I'll be using it in an AC room, thermal performance is the main priority here. I don't want throttling during long gaming sessions.

    The two choices with specs:

    1. MSI GE73VR 7RF Raider
    17.3" 1080p 120Hz TN 5ms
    Intel i7 7700HQ
    GTX 1070 8G
    16 GB DDR4
    256GB SSD + 1 TB 7200rpm HDD

    2. Asus ROG GL503VS Scar edition
    15" 1080p 144Hz IPS 7ms with G-Sync
    Intel i7 7700HQ
    GTX 1070 8G
    16 GB DDR4
    512GB SSD (PCIe) + 1 TB SSHD

Kindly suggest between the two or I can wait one month max for coffee lake processor .

    Thank you!

The box will be heavier because it has the shipping materials and such, plus the powerbrick which will be a 230w adapter which is also a bit heavier.

I actually fixed it by closed MSI afterburner, when Afterburner running, notebook never switch to intel.

But i have another problem, when Iam playing CSGO i have just 90-130 fps, i think its really low for laptop like this, but i have active Turbo mode and max performance, and in nvidia control panel i have chosen Nvidia gpu as prefered graphics and still... cpu and gpu running on 30 percent. But if i connect my old 60 hz external monitor through hdmi, I get 200-250 fps, but i need this performance on my laptop 120 hz panel

I updated the BIOS and EC to the latest version available on the MSI website, but the fan behaviour is the same as before.

Is the fan defective? In a silent environment, the fan is really annoying, spinning up and down a little bit all the time...

What sort of applications are you running? Can you run AIDA64 to monitor the temperatures?

    Thanks for your fast answer!

When the fans are set to "automatic" they keep going up and down around 50rpm, no matter of the load condition. They do this in Idle too.
For example: In Idle they are moving around 2000rpm, so they jump between 2000 and 2050 all the time. Under load they are moving around 4000rpm and do the exact same 50rpm jumps. So the fan noise is changing all the time...

When I manually set the fans to a percentage, they jump up and down around that percentage too. Only exception is the CoolerBoost, in this mode the run at full power at the same speed all the time...

This review is for a different MSI laptop, but they describe exactly the same problem I have with the Raider under "Emissions" and "System Noise":
    https://www.notebookcheck.net/MSI-GL62M-7RD-077-Notebook-Review.196152.0.html

Thanks again for the help :)

The fan pulsations (50rpm) are most evident to me at idling speeds.
Mine has coil whine too coming from near the gpu area, although the fans drown the noise out while gaming. Also some screen bleed.
The biggest reason i chose to live with these issues is because i think i had a good luck with the silicon lottery. I get max 70C on both cpu and gpu while playing games after undervolting, with gelid gc as the thermal paste.

Maybe have Svet to customize a EC firmware for your NB to suit your requirement.

hey guys , can somebody help me, i have the msi raider ge63vr 075 raider laptop. one of my keyboard key(R) is stuck on a different color, i don't know if it was because i updated windows ( i normally keep the backlight turned off) but the things i've tried
    1) Reverted back windows
    2) uninstalled and reinstalled sse 3 multiple times
    3) switched to different color modes.

One thing i've noticed is that even if i uninstall the steel series engine , the keyboard lighting stays to whatever configuration it was on. is there a hard reset for the keyboard lighting? maybe that would fix the issue.

You need to have Nahimic installed then you'd get a popup once you plug in your external mic to choose what it is and use it

That's really strange. Though I did have an update to the steelseries software that was causing all my keys to behave like cooldown keys. To fix that I had to change all the keys from Steady over to one of the other modes. Then once I switched it back, it worked properly. You could also try creating just a brand new configuration and set up your key settings there.

i tried that , that key wont change to the right color, the only matching color it gets is red(which was my last color where everything was fine) , so when i put everything to all white , the pink purple happens to that key , if i put it to blue , it becomes dark blue-ish, when i put everything to yellow , the R still remains red.

i wonder if its a hardware problem or not. it was fine when i first got it, im thinking a good hard reset might fix the issue but idk how to do that. (what i mean is that even if you uninstall the steel series engine , your back lighting still works . so something else must be controlling it. if that could be reset. maybe.)

My only option right now seems like to do a factory reset of windows and see if that fixes it. Unfortunately i have exams going on so i need the laptop :p so ill do that in a few days. if anyone has any solutions do let me know though!

Is temps like 82-83 Celcius Max on CPU ( with -0.130 mV undervolt ) and 76-77 Celcius Max on GPU normal while gaming on demanding games ?

Also I have one more question , today when I opened one game I heard the left fan hitting the case , I instantly closed the game and opened again and it isn't happening now. Should I worry about that? Also I found the fans way too noisy while gaming . Is that a normal thing? I do hear them ( but not too much ) on the background while gaming with headphones .

    Edit : I have included the fan noise : https://soundcloud.com/littlepulco/whatsapp-audio-2018-01-10-at-005317 .
I think this is pretty high and can you hear that ''iiiiii'' sound coming . It is more hearable from 0:09 . Is that a normal sound? It kinda sounds annoying . Is that coil whine?

I think it gets pretty hot . Not hand burning hot but I feel the heat in there if I accidentally press the buttons between W and S or S and D.

So for an update , i reset my windows and the problem still persists , i contacted msi support and he told me
Firstly, please refer to below link to reset EC.
    https://www.msi.com/faq/notebook-2394
Please uninstall Intel SSE 3.10.5 via “Windows Control Panel”, and re-install SSE 3.11.2.
    http://download.msi.com/uti_exe/nb/SteelSeriesEngine3.11.2Setup_3.11.2_0xd4c163b1.zip

    Best Regards,
    MSI Notebook Technical Application Department
i will try that and let you guys know if it worked

Edit: so after trying that , it still doesn't work. what i have noticed is that the green light for the back light seems to be dead. if i put R 0 G 255 and B 0 , it's literally the same as disable illumination for the key. Seems like its a defect from the hardware. if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

I've run into this issue as well! I don't feel like this was true when I first got the laptop either. I do believe it was after one of the updates, but rolling back on the software side has not fixed this. The only difference is my issue resides on my 10key pad, the 3 key. Green shows up black, white shows up purple. Is there some sort of "master" reset for the keyboard?

    Super frustrated!

    Hi,

I'm a raider owner since a few weeks and now I have a similiar problem with the keyboard led's. After updating the SSE I played around with the color settings and now two keys do have a slightly different color than the other keys, even if all keys are set to the same color...

Red is still fine and equal to the other keys, but any other color is different and much more brighter on those two keys. It seems like the color calibration of the led's is messed up on my and many others notebooks.

Is there a way to fix and reset the EC for the lights completely?

Maybe I will sell this notebook, because my fans also don't have a regular speed, even with custom settings. Speakers are very important for me, is the Lenovo Y720 in the same league as the raider? Many thanks, for every help!

hm so a few people seem to have the same issue. i wonder why . yea the green is literally like disable illumination. the msi rep replied back
    Hello TheWingflame .,

Please contact your local service center for servicing of your laptop.

    Best Regards,
    MSI Notebook Technical Application Department

i will do a msi factory reset today and see if that helps ( highly doubt it will ) . then i will send it to a service center and give you guys an update for it.

Seems like they keyboard they are making are either cheaply made cause the colors are not right. (pure white is purplish) . some key colors are a little off as other keys as how linuser mentioned, i have that as well or they software driving them has issues.

I will try a few more things to fix my keyboard light, but maybe the leds on those two keys are already dying (after a few weeks of usage)

What a shame from MSI, overall this laptop feels a little bit too cheap for its price and brand reputation... Some time ago there was an offer for the GT62VR with 6700HQ and 1070, which was also a little bit cheaper than the raider... This would have been a better deal!:/

Yep , just did a factory reset, nothing changed. For the "master" reset. idk if u tried the initial solution the msi rep gave me . which was resetting ec (if u see the backpanel , there is a small hole with a symbol) you can insert a paperclip and press the button to reset it(just make sure to connect the ac adapter after that to turn it on, it wont turn on with battery). He then said to install the latest steelseries driver, though that solution didnt fix it for me. i think thats about as close as you get to master resetting it.

Tomorrow i will send this laptop to the service center and see what the solution is. i'll update you guys once i know!

Hey, can anyone help me on this issue? A weird noise is coming, (like the fans are hitting something?) when I only open a game. How can I solve this? Is there a solution without sending this to warranty?
Here is a video I uploaded for it:

Fan noise, you can loosen the housing a little bit to see if it helps.

I have MSI GE73 and im from Bangalore.
I play CSGO too, almost everyday. Asus ROG seems pretty good with 144Hz and PCIe SSD for CSGO. But no idea how the temperature will be when you start playing AAA games because of the small and slim form factor and less ventilation( 4 ventilation on GE73) . i guarantee you, it will be high. BF1, BF4 and all triple AAA games temperature stays below 85C. Below 80C with max fans(undervolted CPU), No AC in room.
REMEMBER 7700HQ is not a good cpu for CSGO, Other AAA games perform very well. The game does not take full advantages of all cores. You wont get full constant 300fps.
So i advise you to wait for the next 8th Gen CPU for both brand.

Yea seems absurd for non CSGO players. But CSGO players expect a constant 300fps with few fps dips around 250 for gtx 1070 and i7.
Some people play with lower resolution to get more FPS. 200fps is all we need for buttery smooth movement. You can also see in-game default value in CSGO console for FPS is fps_max 300
So yea seems funny but its like that

It is on HDD. That could be the reason too, I am not sure.

Is it normal that my battery wear level is increasing every day? When I got the pc a month ago it was %3 percent. Yesterday it was %9 and today it is %13

Dumb question - I just ordered a GE73VR Raider-256 from NewEgg, but just realized MSI's specs for this particular model do not indicate it comes with MSI's True Color Tech. I saw this in a Best Buy model and really liked it. Can anyone confirm whether its really not included or if it is just an error on MSI's site?

Update: This model does indeed have the True Color Tech, in case anyone else is curious too :)

Hey guys , so for the keyboard back light update. it seems like it is a hardware issue. After sending it to the servicing center. The tech rep told me the keyboard will have to be replaced, so it seems to me like they have used some sub-par LED's (since mine died in 20 days). so hopefully this replacement keyboard unit stays good. So for whoever is having this problem, its best that you get it serviced from your local msi service center while its still under warranty.

I'm still having problems with the fans and keyboard light. How long did it take MSI to answer your service ticket? There is still no answer for me after three days now!:/

Thats a shame for MSI, the Raider is my first MSI notebook and I'm really dissapointed with the quality. Everywhere you read nearly only positive things about MSI, but after buying this notebook, my trust in this brand has vanished...

Which support center did you contact? It's quicker if you can call them directly.

Dang really ? For me they were pretty responsive. i contacted support through my msi account(which had the laptop registered). i got a reply the next day of my question. First he asked me to reset EC and reinstall (which didnt help) then he told me to contact the local service provider.

Give it sometime, check the state of your post, if it says processed, then u should get like a reply in a day or two. I remember when i posted , they had a notification saying they will be down for maintenance in a few days, maybe that's why yours is being slow.

But what i can suggest is, since you're having the same problem as me. Contact your local service provider directly as the online tech won't be much help. A phone call is always quicker to get in touch with.

By the way, for your issues, have you updated BIOS/EC to the latest version yet? Just curious.
