Is this BIOS backwards compatible with Skylake?

Well maybe if eurocom did their job and actually made a good bios with options requested my many users and customers, then svet and prema wouldn't have to do it for them. For example: overclocking, fan curves, and voltage options that should be available for a "desktop replacement."

If only... I don't know if it is because of perceived failures/RMAs, support for customers that incorrectly use BIOS settings that won't allow their machine to boot, or whatever. Seems a shame that resellers don't ship something that can unleash the beast within.

I would love to see a $50 option for an 'Advanced BIOS' on all of these types of machines. Where the BIOS is unlocked and allows users to tweak. Perhaps someday...

They probably have their hands full getting Kaby Lake, the new RAM modules, and new LCD screens supported in the current bios. I am also guessing that they are contracting out MSI to implement the new bios, so if it was anything like my rate was doing that work (~$115 / hour) then things get very expensive really fast. Even something as simple as a writing an EC endpoint to adjust screen brightness can be painful. Half the time it requires reading specification sheets for IC's written in Chinese, making educated guesses based on similar IC's, programming for devices that have very tight timing tolerances (signal has to fit a pattern that is usually counted in microseconds), reflashing firmware many times, hooking up a scope to verify signal and timing is what it should be, and hoping you have spare hardware or an EE on hand in case something gets fried in the process.

A crippled Ec will destroy the performance :D A decent Bios don't do you any good without a working Ec firmware

I dealt with CyberPowerPC US, so I don't know if I could compare them apples to apples.

As far as the negatives go:
    - Took about a month for my laptop to arrive (3 weeks to build, 1 week to deliver)
    - Grill on the CPU heatsink was slightly dented and hand to fix that.

As far as the positives go:
    - Received everything that was promised to me (which was about $200-300 worth of bonus gifts)
    - Support was decent in getting back to me when I had questions
    - They accidentally game me an additional 16GB of memory.
    - The logo on the back of the laptop lid is a sticker (and not a guady one at that).

    Other than that it's a MSI 16L13.

Thoughts on if it's worth the wait for the 120hz screen? I don't play a lot of fast paced FPS games. Also, 4K vs 1080p on a 15.6" screen. Is there a noticeable difference?

You answered your own question. If you don't play many games that will benefit from the higher frames, save yourself some cash. I will say, if you are buying this machine, you should go with the best available options and the 120hz, 5ms panel will be that.

Stay away from 4K unless you are getting the best GPU and even a GTX 1080 doesn't suffice. I haven't really played many games in 4K, so you may want to get the advice from someone that has a 4K monitor over mine.

I've dealt with CP for fangbook III (a mechrevo mxm something). Personally, I avoid them now..their poor QC after a mobo RMA left me with a malfunctioning keyboard and cracked case..they didnt care because they were "aesthetics". With that said, the MSI 16L13 should be a far better machine than I had, and all the free stuff still worksxD

I really like 4K for gaming - and I'm running with a 1070. The 1080 should be able to handle it just fine especially since the 4K screens can't go over 60Hz.

Just upgraded to the new Bios version 309.
Temps are about 3 celcius higher, boot time seem's faster for some reason.
They changed the Boot logo to a Tornado F5 image and that's about it, the 7700k is still fully locked, can't change voltage nor multiplier ...

New Kaby lake are 100% locked, can't change multiplier or voltage until they release a bios update. Im stuck with 4.5ghz stock speed they said it will take a few more week...

Yes write to Eurocom support on their website. Its brand new bios version 309 released last Friday.

So what's different (and whats better) other than the brand between MSI 16l13 and clevo 15" with desktop CPU if specced with 1070 ( I believe it's the 751?) Also is any different the tornado from eurocom and the fangbook from cyberpower if both specced with 1070?

    Thank you! I did ...
So you cannot change your multipliers using Intel Extreme Utility (XTU)? Weird ... there are already pictures in this thread of 7700k@5Ghz
Mine won't hold the multi more than 12 seconds ... it says it TDP throttles although i have set it to 96sec in XTU and turned on Throttle Stop ... but will work @4.7 for those 12 seconds :) Temps hit max 84 for that time.

No, the 5.0+ was from me on my version of the TF5. That was before I was able to get to a stable 5.1.

I'm going to unleash my 5.1 benchmarks in the MSI 16L13 Overclocker's Lounge shortly. I have been busy writing my review.

I am going to message them about the holdup with the BIOS/EC. I think it could be that they are waiting for the man himself to okay the unlocked multiplier BIOS, Mr. Fox. Plus the 309 BIOS/EC they have released, I do not think I can use, but let me make sure.

Why? Not working good? If you go to eurocom drivers page for the f5, download the hotkeys download for your operating system and inside there should be a folder for klm (different from dc).

KLM doesn't allow all colors. DC causes CPU usage.

I use KLM now after the DC discovery of higher than normal voltage and weird CPU changes. It was changing my settings that I had set in Intel XTU. I use a modded version of KLM that has some cool color flashing effects.

The MSI can have a 1080, although the Clevo most likely can also power the Clevo version of the 1080 if someone actually tried it.

The fangbook and tornado f5 are both based off of the MSI 16L13.

yes and No. The pegs that are placed for the holding of the GPU are in different places and there seems to be an additional to hold the 1080... but seems they are same on the surface. I do not have one in my hands yet.

AFAIK, those are not options SVET was able to find an unlock. Sorry man. Maybe Division has something different, but from what I know from my own unlcking was it was just a bunch of menu's repeating themselves, and nothing exactly useful, no EC options.

Hi I am very much interested in the MS16L3 machine. Unfortunately I have read many complaints about Eurocom and CyberPowerPC US/UK and with the latter I'm not even under warranty (UK mainland customers only).

How hard would it be to build my own from a barebone do you think? I've built desktop PCs and changed a graphics card in a GT60 Machine before. Would the barebone function with the integrated GPU Intel HD Graphics from an i5/i7 before I order a laptop GTX 1060/1070? Is there any difference between a 1060/1070 heatsink?

I speculate with some handiwork you will be able to make this compatible with other generations too. Missing the grommets for the screw and bolts, you can find alternative ways to do the same thing, and just like glue them where you need them or such.

there is no IGPU on these, I mean, the 170 chipsets are supposed to be able to support iGPU but this motherboard simply does not have that option, there will be no picture. No beeping either, no signs theres an issue aside from no picture.

I offer a third party service if you want to examine and see the laptop working before it's shipped out of the country, if any issues are encountered, we get them fixed. It really just saves you time and headaches going through RMA's and usually a friendlier more responsive service. I am relatively sure other people, and other companies would do this for you too. There are many trust worthy people around.

I figured I would report today that I was able to get a Zbook Thunderbolt 3 dock working fine with the Tornado F5. The Tornado's Thunderbolt 3 firmware is version 16.1.07.00, in case anyone is curious. It also says external GPUs are not supported. I loaded the Thunderbolt 3 software for the Kaby Lake GT73VR, 16.2.52.250, because the version posted on Eurocom's driver page was quite outdated and the Thunderbolt 3 chip in the GT83VR is the same as the 16L13 (DSL6540).

The dock is great, it has dual displayport video outputs (max 4k@60hz), a broadcom gigabit ethernet port, a conexant usb audio card, multiple usb3.0 ports, and another Thunderbolt 3 port (which can run another 4k@60hz display), all over a single cable. In the next couple of months a few other Thunderbolt 3 docks will be released which will hopefully work as well. This is probably the first gaming laptop (well, laptop with a GTX graphics card) that I have used with some kind of docking solution, so its very pleasant to finally have something like this available.

This ↑↑↑ applies to all the of laptops with LGA socket. Not only the MSI barbones. Who want iGPU at all? Maybe usable for mini laptop's with weak performance but not for a pure desktop replacement.

Well I do :) ... last time got me about 3 hours of movies and internet at the airport + i carry my business laptop which is 4 more.
After all this is a laptop that is meant to be carried around and it is just 3 kg :) and has a "huge" 79Wh battery :)
Would be nice if it could use the integrated video. Why the iGPU is included in desktop processors then 6700k, 7700k, etc. ???
I am really not familiar, but does it work in a desktop PC if Nvidia/AMD card is present?
Also no one has given me a sane explanation why the iGPU is disabled... (I am guessing /suspecting G-sync, but please excuse me i am lame)

It is really not a big thing, but yet it bothers me for the above stated arguments.

I dont why you always think that everyone wants the fastest thing when most people just want a normal laptop.

I am one of those people who wouldnt mind the igpu available in this laptop. Having it available equals less power draw when the 1070 or 1080 is not used and better battery life. Most of use are not going after useless benchmark scores, we just want a laptop that plays games then after that go bang the wife or gf.

Oh does it ? I didn't know that. comes in pretty handy being able to use the iGPU whenever you need, like what if we stuck an i5 in there and didn't have a GPU temporarily, it could be a viable cheap solution(Portable). Oh well.

hey guys, Im trying to reproduce a bug or crash, using drivers 376.60 directly from NVidia. One of us is having crashes with games like BF1 and Crysis(original) and such, if such a thing is possible, it might be a memory controller issue or something... has anyone else had issues ?

iGPU steal headrom for max overclock and will lower max processor tasks. Unwanted!! Let the GPU do the job just as the processor. There is a reason why High End Desktop processors don't have iGPU. Just a shame that we can not have those in laptops :(

I have a FedEx tracking number from @Eurocom Support for the 780W AC adapter and a Tornado F5 Extreme Edition (7700K and 1080 and 64GB DDR4-3200). Delivery is set for Monday.

I will post reviews for both products.

I will also do a teardown, delid and repaste video on the Tornado F5. And, then, as usual, will flash modded firmware and overclock the living crap out of it.

Thank you very much for your answers. That's too bad It would have been awesome to have that laptop with a real LGA CPU for a while and get a GPU later. Regarding your third party services could you perhaps tell me how it works in details if you don't mind? I really have not made any decision yet and am turned off by the system integrators horror stories (not the awesome laptops). Or maybe I should choose a Clevo P751DM2-G like PCspecialist Octane3 but I read somewhere that the keyboard is very cheaply made and I really don't like the RJ45 port placement on the side (otherwise looks good).
