The 1080 is like 25% more expensive system over all, or more.

Is it me or the person who wrote this seem's to know **** about the fact that this is a MSI GT62VR barebone?

1080 is way too expensive, might as well wait for next gen GPU and see if we can upgrade or buy a eGpu.
While 7700k could be the best processor to fit a 1151 socket since we don't know if intel will change the socket for Cannonlake or if bios update will be provided for coffee lake.

One thing I know , 4.2 - 4.5 is plenty of performance for me, I'll probably undervolt the CPU as much as possible

Oh is it really a GT62VR ? I know next to "nothing"- myself - about MSI laptops.

however, this picture is the laptop your referring to, but it has BGA CPU, and some crappy CPU heatsink, but otherwise looks and seems the same.

now the question is, can we use the OEM software from MSI on these laptops ?? Maybe just edit the INF files to install things...

It was the same when I built my desktop recently, I chose the GTX 1070 because GTX 1080 was soooo much more expensive for just a modest bump in performance. The guy who wrote the notebookcheck.net article was probably misleading by suggesting that a Non-K CPU + GTX 1080 would be a similar price to K CPU + GTX 1070. I suppose there could be an argument to get a non-K CPU + GTX 1070 option if there's not much overclocking headroom in the 7700K on these systems, but I'm interested to see what kind of 24/7 overclocking you guys can achieve.

Hopefully that works. That was with playing Total War Warhammer. Something is seriously throttling the gpu...

I noticed after that happens, windows seems to be affected too. For example, typing anything in the search toolbar (cortana) usually does an automatic search suggestion right? Well it doesn't... also, I seem to lose some icons in the Start menu i.e. power, settings, file explorer... I have to restart the laptop to get those back.

How can you log the issues when you get a crash. I need to know what crashes my laptop.

I'll be home tomorrow evening so I will send many night hours figuring this stuff out. I really need to know what crashes this laptop.

people here posted that indeed we can use most software from MSI GT62VR page.
You can even register your Tornado F5 on MSI webpage for a 24 months warranty.

It appears this version of the GTX 1080 is the same as the one used in the MSI GT83VR SLI Which means 150W version and no additional power supply cable. The higher power MSI GTX1080 MXM is a 200W version and can be found in the MSI GT73VR Titan Pro. It has more power phases and overall higher performance due to the OC headroom. I'm curious to know how the Updated Eurocom Tornado will perform against the MSI GT73VR Titan Pro.

Also of note, Eurocom is charging a whopping sum for the gimped version of the GTX 1080.... it should be 25% less given that its 25% less powerful, no?

So, I just noticed HIDEvolution has a sub-menu for "EVOC MSI 15 Inch Laptops" with no matching products. Does this mean other re-sellers are adding this chassis to their inventories?

I think this is the third time I hear someone playing Total War Warhammer is affected. I think the recent last 3-4 NVidia drivers are not very good, and are the cause of it.

yeah, well I guess they want to make money somewhere, right.

John @Eurocom Support told me yesterday I was supposed to receive a tracking number today. I did not.

Communication seem's to be a bit of a problem with Eurocom so far. Hopefully they just forgot to send me the tracking and I still receive the laptop on time.

Unfortunately I don't think it's the drivers. Before I sent it in I tried every driver on Nvidia's website. When I got it back, it was using 375.95. I assumed that's the version they used to test it before sending it back but of course that didn't last very long. I tried every new driver after 375.95 and the older driver as instructed by @eurocomsupport to no avail.

Total War Warhammer and Attila makes the problem come out more often than my other games. In descending order of # of issues that appear - Gears of War 4, Fallout 4, Battlefield 1, Cities Skylines, and Far Cry 4.

I've had better luck just calling them. Waiting for an email response is too frustrating for me at this point.

I've known for a little while, however, it was not my place to say something until now. They will be offering almost the same configurations, plus their awesome delidding services. Had I known before I made my purchase at Eurocom, I would have gone with HIDevolution (simply due to their awesome customer service).

Now that's strange, would a GPU crash cause Windows to malfunction? Have you run Memtest86+ on your laptop since getting it back from Eurocom yet?

Agreed... unfortunately their timing is a few months too late for me. I needed a laptop back in September/November and Eurocom was the best choice back then.

I ran memtest a couple times before I sent it to them, I haven't ran it since I got it back.. I'm assuming that should be fine? I'll go ahead and run it later as it wouldn't hurt.

I got a pm from @eurocomsupport saying that someone will get in touch with me via email. Being that I'm 5 hours behind from them, if I don't hear from them in the morning I'll go ahead and give them a call. I seriously have to have this resolved.

if you have an order number, I will ask them to send you tracking for you, if your concerned.

I will send John Shore a message asking him to follow up with you anyways, he's a busy guy, and does some of the more important things for Eurocom at times.

I already emailed John about it.
I just had some situation where it took forever for them to answer me back and when I get told tracking will be sent tomorrow and you'il receive laptop by Thursday than I don't receive the Tracking number it makes me wonder if I will even receive the laptop this week ...

I ordered it on December 22 so it's already been 2 week, I know with the holiday it takes longer but I'd prefer them telling me next week if there not sure about the date.

Hopefully I get it today cause I took off to test it since they said I would get it today ....

If they said you would receive it tomorrow/later today, you probably will get it this week. They will deliver UPS even on saturday if they need too usually.
That's at least my experience from shipping fro them direct to the continental USA. Their warehouse in the states is in NY if I understand...

The Anniversary update for Windows 10 had some big issues when it came out last year. On my (non-MSI) laptop the OS would simply semi-hang 10-20-30 mins after boot. It was so bad that I had to roll the update back in order to be able to use my machine and I'm still on pre-Anniversary update right now.

I don't know what the status is with that update and bugs, and it's probably a long shot regarding your game issues. But I just got reminded of the Anniversary issues when you mentioned the missing icons since that was one of the symptoms.

Microcenter near me has a lot of them in stock. I am tempted to go buy one. Could delidd it and maybe getting a higher core clock for same temps.

I've got another question for the veteran socketed notebook users here. What are the major differences between the MSI (16L13) and Clevo chassis (775/750)?

The only major reason I'm after the 16L13 is because of the more professional appearance.

In terms of cooling, fit&finish, and the keyboards, which has the edge?
Do either of them have a major flaw?

More Kaby Lake options are available now at Eurocom. Somehow, the i5-7600K is WAY cheaper than any other CPU option, including the i5-6600K. Spec it right, and you could potentially get away with an i5-7600K/GTX 1070 system for $1491 shipped, or $1345 shipped with the student discount. How are these guys even making a profit?

I expected the 7700K to run much hotter in this DTR considering all of the reviews I've read on the 7700K. Try a small undervolt to see if you can get it under the 40's. A delid might make this CPU even better!

Congrats! I think you will enjoy your new desktop in a backpack aka DTR :D

I am also interested in this, I wonder how much the 7700K can be undervolted. Most 6700K's seem to be able to hit at least -150 mV at stock.

I don't have TS, but XTU is very simple to undervolt. Simply make the "Core Voltage Offset" more negative until the system is not stable anymore, then increase your last known stable voltage by 10 mV. I would use RealBench for stability testing, as it seems to find instability faster and more reliably than P95. I would probably run the stress test with max fans, as you have not repasted/delidded yet.

Yup my bad, anyway here -150MV undervolt after 5 minutes, it looks like i'm getting no temperature gain while undervolting.

Well, you are jumping around in a wide range of undervolting quickly, maybe not enough time to tell if you are stable at the higher (lower?) undervolt settings. I'd do some testing at the highest undervolt, was that -250Mv or -150mV?

It might be there is a limit to the benefits of undervolting with Kabylake as the CPU corrects voltage and increases it to tune CPU to what it wants to see - there was some mention of this for Kabylake CPU's by @Papusan a couple days ago.

Maybe there is a way to disable this feature?

A new XTU and TS version might need to provide an option for this if it's tuneable...

Highest i did right now is -150mv.
Can go as high as -1000mv with Thermalstop (lol)
I could probably try a -250mv and see if i get a crash after 5 minutes.

Edit : -250mv was instant crash when applying :p
Like you said, i guess if i do -025mv and wait 30 minutes my temps would probably go much higher than -150mv would. I'm still a little bit sad about 95C temps with Prime95. I know it's unrealistic work load on the CPU but it's quite high.
I was hoping for the 85C range, maybe the paste job is terrible, i don't know and unfortunately i'm not enthousiast enough to open the laptop and play with the CPU.

Prime95 is a AVX stress test.. Although represents the very top of your CPU temperature limits.. Try just running OCCT and see what your temps get up to. Prime95 AVX is good for theoretical upper limits under extreme situations.. In average use you'd probably never ever see your CPU getting to the 90s.. That being said, your CPU is still doing really well under Prime95.... I've seen many many BGA systems hit 100c under Prime95 and throttle with much LOWER clocks than your 7700k! Congrats on your machine, surprised you actually got it today!

I got a lovely package in the mail today. New tool kit, Gelid GC-Extreme*, artic cooler pads, stainless steel replacement screws, and a tripod mount for my iPhone so it doesn't look like I'm having a seizure** while i'm recording. Hopefully I can get an hour or two this weekend to do "Tear Down Part 2: The Revenge".

    * Giving Gelid a shot because people who had problems with Kyronaut seem to say this works better.
** No offense to people who have seizures, they suck. I could have said Parkisons instead, but somehow I think seizures in some weird way is less offensive.

-250mV might be too much, there are a lot of numbers between -150mV and -250mV :)

I've seen reports as high as -220mV working...

It's worth mentioning that over time you can try to slowly increase the value to undervolt more.

I had a laptop CPU that would only do -15mV out of the box, and slowly over 18 months I got it to -45mV :)

Probably not worth the effort for such a small gain, but it's nice you know that down the road you can try for more undervolt.

I'm surprised to see Kaby going that high as is.. Two samples of ULV Kaby Lake I had only did like -50 and the other -75mv. Likely because they are clocked a bit higher than Skylake therefore less room to undervolt.
