    Hi guys

I have been reading this forum for awhile checking out the pros and cons of the F5

I'm looking at the following specs which comes out as £1766.7 after student discount via Eurocom

    FHD
    1070
    i7-6700 (don't plan to OC)
8GB 2400 Kingston (plan to get other stick on Amazon)
    Win 10 Home
256GB Micron M600 SSD (for OS and frequent used apps)
    1TB HDD 7200
    Intel 8260
    2 years Warranty

Is that alright? I am an all rounder and like to game and use it daily.

Double check this, but I'm pretty sure laptops are exempt from import duty from the us. You'll need to pay the vat but you'd pay that anyway if you buy in the eu. Of course if it goes wrong sending it back will be expensive ( but that's probably true if you buy in europe as well)

    Hi all,

After masterdebating between the Tornado F5 and the Clevo P750DM2-G for a few days, I pulled the trigger on the F5 on Friday. It shipped today and I should get it by Monday. I'm pretty excited as this will be a great upgrade from my HP i7-720QM based laptop I bought back in 09. Here are the specs:

    1080 IPS
    i7-6700k
    GTX 1070
    Intel 8260
    330w AC Adapter

I've got 32gb of G Skill Ripjaws dd4 2400 and my samsung ssd to throw in it. I might grab an additional 32gb of ram and an m2 ssd later. I game occasionally, but will mostly use the machine for office work, development, video editing, and running VMs. I run Linux 99.9999999 percent of the time. I've read through the thread, but still have a few questions.

I plan to undervolt, but do you recommend reapplying the thermal paste? How many degrees lower than the IC Diamond 7 do you get? I won't be overclocking, but would like good temps.

Does anyone have a picture of the 230w slim ac adapter by the 330w adapter? I'm trying to decide if I want to pick one up for travel.

I plan to boot additional OS drives from the usb3 or 3.1c ports. Has anyone tried this?

Also, I want to thank everyone for putting such great info in this thread. Made my decision much easier.

Kyle got his original account deleted but he's back and this is the reupload.

And no, it wasn't planned and I actually only talked to him a couple times afterwards....after my account was blasted with fanatic invites and messages. Apparently, my laugh makes others laugh. I don't see it. Warning though: The video has mature language.

    http://www.hidevolution.com/evoc-clevo-p750dm2-g-custom-built-gaming-desktop-replacement-laptop.html

I don't know the exact model of the panel but it is available and I REALLY want it for the F5. That panel plus the 7700K/1080 would make the best 15 laptop in the world and would be an instant buy. You hear me Eurocom!!!

EDIT: Even if Eurocom doesn't offer it, I will likely see if I can get the panel from HIDevolution and mod it to work.

I spoke with Garry at Eurocom via email this week, and he said that is still being worked on and that by January we should know for sure it's going to be available and be able to get them to upgrade the screen for existing users. Let's hope it actually works out and we can get that screen in our existing F5 laptops because if we can't that would suck.

Well, either I wait for the F5 with that panel or see if HIDevolution is going to offer the P750DM2 with a 1080 GPU. Regardless I want my business laptop to have those components.

You need to replace all of those? Or are you just researching for kicks? IMO, I think the only "bad" screws that strip easily are the small heatsink screws. Those little bastards are made of silly putty...

When I linked my XTU/HWbot settings/scores etc.. there should be a link on that page that allows you to literally download the XTU settings and apply them. This was my reason why I shared them and why I use XTU, and why I linked it with basically safe overclocks that would work even on battery but yet give 10-15% higher performance. (They use the extra voltage the motherboard seems to be applying right up perfectly)

I want to see the proof this was being sold at those prices. I don;t believe everything I read. It would be easy to just link the item, from the items you purchased on ebay, even if no longer available or sold out, it still has a valid listing.

Especially since older outdated (3-5+ years older) comparable models , used, from this store that was linked are 150-200$ more + shipping....

Dear All, over last few weeks we had some reports coming from some of you related to "checksum memory errors"

We have found the reason for the RAM getting corrupted. It is done by HWInfo64 when accessing the RAMBUS at the same time as Thaiphoon Burner. It does not happen when using TB alone.

This is from Vitaliy (TB Author):

I do not recommend using any software that accesses SMBus devices on the background periodically.
This may cause a deadlock of the SMBus controller or data corruption while reading or writing SPD content by
Thaiphoon Burner. I have seen your two SPD dumps and I was pretty sure they do not have damaged SPD.
Such errors are very specific for SMBus Controller settings.

    And this from HWInfo64 Author:

Access to SMBus (and SPD) requires synchronization, so if there are multiple clients trying to access SMBus at the same time, there might be a collision resulting in wrong readouts. I believe this is what happens on your system.
To prevent such situations, there are multiple mechanisms - all recent Intel chipsets feature a hardware mutex that when properly utilized avoids such collisions. Moreover, lots of software tools use a global software mutex to protect such access on an even higher level. But the requirement is that all tools make use of those mutexes and in the correct way. HWiNFO of course does use both methods, similar as other tools like AIDA64, CPU-Z/HWMonitor, SIV, etc. so you won't see such problems when running all these tools in parallel.

I was under the impression you can't upgrade to Pascal on these older gen. machines?
Im guessing the 1060 is a different scenario then? You want shed light on where you got it so cheap, ebay offerings range from 560-800$.

Great buy non the less :)

The tornado f5 16l13 is compatible with 970m, 980m, 1060, 1070, 1080, as well as a few quadro ones I think. Also here is the link that he got it from, although it is sold out, you can see the seller about different deals as well: http://m.ebay.com/itm/222102492708?varId=520958652822&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&_mwBanner=1

Edit: actually I didn't notice that was a 16l11, my mistake. Don't know if the 10 series are compatible with that

It should have a good chance of working. Although I think what the poster meant to say was it is costing him $190 to upgrade to the 1060. So sale of the 970M is in that price.

Need, no. Want, yes. The only screws that I feel that are good quality are the spring screws for the CPU heat sink.

And partly researching for kicks. Trying to find this info documented outside this thread is non-existent.

@Eurocom Support Where is the updated BIOS for existing F5 owners? If laptops are shipping with this updated BIOS, are you going to release it to existing owners soon? Is the BIOS unlocked with more options for overclocking CPUs and Memory instead of using Intel XTU or Throttlestop?

Yes but Christmas is around the corner ... + i will be 500km away for the holidays even if it comes...
Aliexpress has 95% delivery rate in my experience (i live in Bulgaria) ... and yes sometimes things come in just 2 weeks.

Now still in USA ... enjoying the prices of electronics here (the Tornado F5 in particular, Thank you Eurocom).
BTW I really don't get why people want their laptop with no brand, when they should be thankful to Eurocom for the outstanding price/performance they offer. Similar configurations start from 2k+$ from other companies.
I was just browsing out of curiosity around Black Friday and could not resist the deal. 1530$ including shipping - 8GB RAM, NO SSD/HDD, 330W PSU... (+40$ 8GB ram, +200$ for PM961 512GB, and i already have a 2TB HDD). In Europe for this price i would get 6700HQ + 1060M... nowhere this level of performance (some despicable BGA crap)

P.S. Have you tested it yet?

I just got mine from Eurocom today (essentially barebones, very nice) and set up Win 7 and all the relevant drivers (I think).

Am I going crazy, is this normal, or did I do something wrong somewhere along the way?

It looks like it detects my installed RAM (8GB) but is only showing around a tenth of that (869MB) as the total physical memory. I admit to being somewhat of a novice, but I couldn't find any simple explanation for this discrepancy. Does anyone know why this discrepancy is so large, what I'm missing, or what I should do to fix this issue?

If it matters, I did slot in an m.2 ssd in and installed my OS on it, but besides that I'm not running or configuring anything new. Soon I was planning to get more / different RAM, and I wanted to use the laptop for a little while prior to that ... but probably not likely to get much done with a fraction of a gig!

EDIT: Alright, I realized I mistakenly picked the 32bit iso of W7 instead of the 64bit, so that's probably a factor. I'm installing the correct OS now... hopefully that remedies any anomalies.

EDIT2: Yeah, that was it! Lesson learned, and hopefully I didn't cause any needless concern. The laptop is pretty much everything I was looking for, and a nice upgrade from my previous Sager.

When ever I play any type of game the game will crash but the weird thing about it is that I dont get any driver reset messages, I dont get any blue screen or any random computer restarts.

I know if I had back memory modules that it will cause blue screen or random crashes but I dont get those. The only thing I changed recently was going from a i7 6700 to i7 6700k.

I checked the temperatures and there are 70s at 4.2ghz with auto fans. I am about to run a memory test very soon but I dont think its that.

Any help or any other ideas that I might be missing.

    System specs are below.

    Windows 10 pro
    8gb of ram 2400mhz
500gb ssd Samsung 850 OS, and Samsung 2tb HD spinpoint HD mostly storage
    nvidia 1070

Checking windows event viewer might help to see what's going on. I had very similar issues but mine would show display driver msg errors. The crashes started off once in a while for me before getting more and more often, eventually computer would restart. I ended up having to RMA mine back to eurocom after the GPU replacement they sent me failed to fix it I'm still waiting to get mine back.
