It will be very interesting to see how a 150W GTX 1080 stacks up against a ~120W GTX 1070. I'm guessing the 330W power adapter will be required for the 1080 model?

As long as the laptop can cool the 1070 effectively and as long as it's not power gimped, then this is a better gaming option than an i5-6600K desktop chip + 1060. This is also assuming that you won't be able to upgrade the GPU with future generations. GTX 1070 is a lot faster than GTX 1060 (see following links): 16704/11580*100 = 44% faster based on Firestrike Graphics Scores.
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-1070-Laptop.169549.0.html
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile...060-Laptop-Benchmarks-and-Specs.169547.0.html
This is a lot more important for better gaming performance than the CPU (as much as we hate BGA of course!). 6700HQ won't bottleneck GTX 1070 in most games if you're aiming for only 60fps on a 60Hz screen, I'm not sure I could name one (maybe BF1, but no personal experience in that one).

    Here's my F5 - http://www.passmark.com/baselines/V9/display.php?id=73149059272
That's with stock paste, 0.150 undervolt and a samsung evo 850 ssd, no overclocking, fans on auto. Interestingly the ssd is showing a max temperature of 53 celsius. I was thinking about thermal pads after reading the previous threads about high ssd temperatures but maybe I don't need to bother.... Max temp on the cpu on this test was 42 with a max core temp of 59 (I think I reached 68 on the XTU stress test).

Yeah it's quite a bit lower isn't it....

Also I think the cpu temperature was under-reported in passmark, when I checked in xtu it had reached a fair bit higher.

Has anyone else done passmark on a 1070?

I might be one of the first brave folks to buy the 7700K/1080 version of this notebook. My last wish is if it had the 120hz 5ms 1080p TN panel that is currently available for the Clevo 750DM2.

yes but to be fair, I also know what I'm doing, lol. j/k yeah his score is low. considering my intial score your seeing was on battery too, LOL..

I could get a much higher score, i filmed it when i was on my cell, to prove this was on battery and such, and made it show me getting a much higher score plugged in too.. but I got busy when uploading and waiting for ages to upload it to youtube.

Well I now know who I'm going up against when I pick my 7700K/1080 F5 up. ;)

Mind you, a certain OC'er, Mr. Fox, will be testing the machine with the same built. So the both of us are going to be going up against a mountain, hahaha.

Sounds like fun, though I'm not going to really try and be competitive, if I do I will do it with another persons name and account, and send them my hardware.

For a moment, imagine if I was advertising perform +50% better then average performance, then when people purchase they are disappointed. But if they purchased from me, they will contact me, and ask me a bazillion questions on how to, etc.
They will also expect I am supporting such crazy configurations, I would just be stuck spending all day doing tech support for charity. Trust me, this is what happens if we really start trying. If your new and people don't know you, it cool, your inbox doesn't flood with 50+ messages overnight.
As it is I get like 10+ a day which is great. double that or more, and I'd stopped logging in and start ripping my hair out. LOL

Between this machine and the P870DM3, I'm going to have my hands full. I might be new to this community but I have a vast amount of experience with computing and I have no problem with helping others. I do get your point about the popularity and having people fill your inbox with questions/comments. My XBL account is still flooded with friend invites/messages after almost a year and a half when a famous youtuber trolled my friend and I.

MSI builds the barebones model 16L13 that the Eurocom Tornado F5 is based on.

We would need to ask MSI to build the 17.3" version barebones model, a 17L13? :)

yeah it's true I don't know what I'm doing, it's the first time I've messed with any of this stuff! I'm actually really happy with the way the machine runs out of the box though, my main reason for running passmark was to have a look at the ssd temperatures under load and it looks like I don't have the problem others have described. Having said that I think I might have to get serious and see how far I can push this beast. I'd actually ordered the machine with the straight 6700 but eurocom upgraded me to a 6700K so it seems a shame not to take advantage of it :)

yeah I turned g-sync off. Running the dx12 test gives a 60% penalty for not having a 4k screen, not sure if that affects the overall score in any meaningful way? Anyway running the tests with the power settings set to full power gave a result in line with the global results for a 1070 ( which I guess include the desktop version ) so it doesn't look like there's anything particularly wrong.

Alright. So I sent the Goldmax guys an email, and they replied and told me they'd be very happy to assist me with a Tornado F5 purchase - I just had to send them screenshots of the specs I wanted from the Eurocom site and they'd give me a quote.

So I did that on November 23, and....never heard back. If they're this slow selling me a laptop, I can only imagine what a support/RMA situation would be like.

I guess I'll be waiting for Cyberpower UK to get the 1070 back in stock in January. Kaby Lake should be available at the start of the year as well, right?

I almost bought this deal as a back up/parts laptop. Hell I could have sold the 970m for $350-400 making it an very very good deal for a tinker bench.

Excellent deal you got, welcome to the club. In the mean time you should flash or get that vBIOS unlocked. Push the 970m to her limits since you have the cooling capability.

Where did you get a 1060 for so cheap?

Hey @Eurocom Support when will the bios update be released again? Also is the cooler boost button on the laptop the fastest the fan can go, or is there possibly higher rpms that it can spin at? I wouldn't mind the extra noise for extra cooling

Yeah. But the thing is, if it's snatched in customs, I'll have to pay +25% of the total amount in sales tax (plus some minor custom and handling fees) - and then it's suddenly not such a good deal anymore. That's why I'm looking to buy it from somewhere within the EU.

I'm playing catch up with the thread but wanted to get some updates out to you all in case any one else is has the same questions.

Since I am running Windows 7 I am probably in the minority but maybe someone else can benefit.

For Soundblaster Cinema 3 I was able to use the same method posted in the thread already (Install the Realtek drivers off the disk and immediately afterwards (without a restart!!) install the Soundblaster Cinema 3 drivers, also from the disk. (Thank you!)

However, if I run SBC3 then my GPU clocks jump to their load clocks (1443mhz core 2000mhz memory) and remain there without boosting under load or downclocking at idle. If I start my computer and don't run SBC3 but leave the icon alone in the taskbar then my clocks act normally (downclocking at idle and boosting under load). But I don't know if I am reaping the benefits of SBC3 since I have not actually launched the program, but the icon is still present in the taskbar.

Also, regarding M2's and their heat issues, I have not had a temp over 55C on Windows 7 even when moving large files (Doom 2016) from an external HDD onto the M2 drive. I have both M2 slots occuppied with Samsung EVO 500 Gigs but I have NOT installed NVME drivers. I think if you want cooler temps and can do without NVME then thats the way to go but again, this may just be my experience with Windows 7 as opposed to 10.

my dream laptop right now is 7700k + 1070 + 17 inch 1080p between 1600-1800 usd. make it happen please. hell I am willing to forgo the 7700k for a 7700 if I need to to stay in the price range. 200-300 premium for a size increase + bigger screen should be fair?
