The 100MB partition is something from Windows 7. I recently took a new drive and installed Windows 7 Ultimate. There were two partitions by default: 100MB Active and [rest of disk]GB System.
I think the partitions are not unreasonable:
1) Recovery Partition: since there are no OS disks, this is like having it online all the time (as long as your HD is OK).
2) 100 MB Windows Partition: as mentioned, this is setup by Windows.
3) OS_Install and Data: I like having two partitions to segregate your OS/Apps from your user data. I go one step further and relocate all user data/profiles to the D: drive. That way, you really only have to backup the D: since you can always recreate the C: drive from your disks/images.

Where are all the reviews?
-
Is anyone working on one, yet? -
My laptop was supposed arrive last week, it didn't yet. Its been at the customs office for over a week now. When it arrives I will try to make a basic review asap.
-
-
-
Try to cover screen quality, heat, noise, keyboard atleast.
1 week in customs is a long time. When I have bought mine from US and shipped it to Norway it have sometimes got "stuck" in customs because the resellers forgot to include a reciept of how much it is worth so they couldn`t calculate tax. My last laptop Asus M60, was stuck in customs because some reseller sent it as a gift and customs tried to get a hold of me to ask me various questions about it. Maybe you should call them and ask what is going on? -
Should I just tell them the tracking no. and they will see the details? or do I need extra things? I'm living in Belgium and things go really slow here, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was just the normal procedure
-
Yeah the tracking number will be sufficient. If not then they will ask you on the phone. Atleast that is how it is done here in Norway
-
BTW guys. I just posted a screenshot on the Asus forum and it seems that the GTX560M on the GT780R is factory overclocked. So it is something MSI guarantee will work flawless
Asus G74 GPU:
GPU clock: 775MHz
Memory: 625MHz
Shader: 1550MHz
MSI GT780R:
GPU clock: 814MHz
Memory: 625MHz
Shader: 1627MHz -

The way I see it is that they have trouble installing the ribbon cables properly, and these cause certain things not to work. I hope that these are all the problems that we will see and people can repair them easily.
-
-
Do you guys think his keyboard ribbon cable was put in bad, or do you think they keyboard is that hard to type on, or is the keyboard just faulty, or what? xDD He seemed very distraught about they keyboard, but most other reviews place it as one of the best yet. Haha. My laptop will be here by Friday! Ken said he was shipping it today!
Right Ken!? xDD
-
P.S. my brother has a year or two old pair of noisecancelling dre beats and we both agree my V-moda's out perform those. -
Wow. That's not too bad at all. When I stop spending so much on vinyl, I might just have to get me a pair. Or try. Haha.
-
That zone in the middle without light is a hardware failure. So we shouldn`t pay too much attention too it. The W button which you have to press hard for the laptop to register it could be on all laptops though
I remember Asus had some problems with it registering all the keyboard punching with their G models long ago. I think a BIOS update or driver update took care of that so MSI will hopefully do the same. -
-
my gt780R-012US is comming, in the week of day 26 I will receive it.
I can not wait to put my hands on this monster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine'll be here by Friday!
I got an email confirming that it shipped today, and I did three day shipping. So.

Hopefully mine will reach by next week, wee!!
Can't wait to join you all =)
Btw, is the touchpad actually good?
Are there multi-gestures? Vertical scrolling and horizontal scrolling, I heard these were not very convenient as the Synaptics touchpads, right? -
Looks like my neighbor isn't the only person having an issue the keyboard. In my neighbor's case, it isn't just the 'W' key. He is having issues with W, 2, Q, E, TAB and space bar. It doesn't register. I actually had to type the key '2' 7 times to get it to register. I've tried realigning the ribbon cable per Ken's instructions, but no dice. I don't think this is ribbon cable issue. I believe the keyboard is defective for many. Is anyone else having this issue?
Also, someone mentioned 'bios' fix for this? How is this possible?
It turns out, he bought his laptop from NewEgg. It is has been shipped back RMA today.
This laptop comes with repair / replace only policy, so no refund... He is PISSED! I would be too,if basic input on a laptop is hindered on a $1700.00 laptop. If this problem is wide spread, MSI should send replacement keyboard to those affected, and not make their customers go through the RMA process (losing access to laptop for couple of weeks).
My 2 cents.
Ken: Have you noticed any keyboard issues on any of the machines you've configured and sold? Do you know if MSI is working on this issue? -
Well you can't except something that's never been done before to be perfect the first go around. This is the first SteelSeries keyboard on a laptop, right? Or something like that? I know it's the first MSI's had. So obviously there are going to be some bugs and glitches in it. I don't think the keyboard it's self is defective. It's probably the fact that the driver they're having to use is brand new since it's the only SteelSeries keyboard. There could be unknown conflicts with drivers. The ribbon cable has been a simple fix on many I've seen and heard about around here. One way or another, I'm sure the problem will get fixed. As for part of the keyboard lighting up, again, it could be a driver or ribbon cable issue, or the backlights could have gotten messed up in shipping or production. This could also be said for the key registry issue. All this is simply speculation, as I'm not very educated in the inner workings of laptops.
-
If it is a manufacturing error, hopefully it is just on the Newegg batch.
-
Amen to that. Hopefully Ken inspected my GT780R closely.
-
Some of them asked their staff to contact Bison for drivers and some of them said it doesn't need drivers since it uses MS drivers.
Haven't got a chance to talk to MSI today since I was having issues on Asus side.
I'll keep you guys update.
Sorry to hear about your neighbor's issue.
To answer your question no I don't see issues like that on the GT780R keyboard I've tested, so far none.
If it wasn't the loose cable then it probably just a bad keyboard, it happen sometimes, I don't have to press hard (except the KENshiro Keyboard test) for keys to register.
If you want to you can PM me and I'll see if MSI can send your neighbor a new keyboard to test, if it turn out it's the bad keyboard you can just return the defective one to MSI.

Anyone playing Dragon Age II? I updated to the 275.xx drivers only to find out there is an issue with them and DAII! I see the game lock after a few minutes with either 275.33 or 275.50 (beta). Someone in that thread mentions "I moved to 275.36 Quadro (modded .inf)", any idea how to do this or should I just wait for the 280.xx drivers?

I do travel a lot and plan to take it with me so hopefully it's not something that comes loose down the road. -

Bottonline: Most reports from users have been very positive of the Steelseries keyboard!
Sorry to hear of your "neighbor's" frustrations, but that is NewEgg policy, and that is where they chose to purchase their notebook. With RMA's it's always good to begin the process immediately, to lessen the pain.

The official MSI policy regarding the camera software is that they only provide the Simple Camera software on the drivers disk, under the Utilities tab. They do not install it as part of the factory load.
The software that Ken showed is what they used to provide but do not anymore because they no longer have licensing for it.
Therefore their position is that they provide the camera and the Simple Camera software, and if users want better software it is up to them to provide it. Here are some that you may want to try - http://www.nchsoftware.com/software/webcam_b.html?gclid=CIjCzOmFyqkCFQN5gwodo0RUMg, http://download.cnet.com/ManyCam-Virtual-Webcam/3000-2348_4-10593500.html, http://download.cnet.com/WebcamMax/3000-2150_4-11325020.html

' Stu' at the MSI Notebooks forum , is trying to be helpful. I have a sense the BisonCam NB Pro, is somewhat a mystery to them as well.
He did confirm that this webcam uses WIN 7 native driver only, so no driver downloads are necessary, and future updates will appear in 'Windows Update'!
EDIT: GEEZ! It turns out the MSI Forum was an absolute waste of time! -

They don't have a 1600x900 screen for this model. Not that I've seen anyways. And I've seen some people talking about it and say that there wasn't a 1600x900 version of this out there. Maybe you could order a screen and do it yourself? I dunno.
As for the subwoofer test, you can bet that as soon as I get mine, it's gonna be put to the test. First I'll turn the bass all the way up, then I'll throw on some dubstep and make the subwoofer cry. Then I'll try it with some of my more bass heavy hardcore music. But the dubstep test will be more good for the type of music a lot of people listen to. I think you'll get a good result with any type of music. Except country. I'm not sure how you get insane bass with country.

And, you asked about a subwoofer.... on a NOTEBOOK for goodness sakes! NO, the subwoofer doesn't hold a candle to my Klipsch Theater Surround system! Sorry, but you make me laugh.
Many have praised the speakers on this notebook, above most...... and there is even a sound test video..... right here in this thread!
(Geez, I think I am having a grumpy day!)

Not shady at all. Most laptop manufacturers do not provide software for the webcam.
