Apparently there are GT780 systems lacking mainboard RAID support, but in your case, install the file I linked above (1761 308.zip) and you will be fine...... just follow THESE instructions carefully.

    Got it.

Many thanks for the very prompt replies, folks :)

Edit: Before flashing I connected an external HDD to verify that there would be a problem upon bootup, and interestingly, I had no problems at all on restart or a full boot. Laptop booted without a hitch with my new Hitachi USB 3.0 drive. Therefore, I'm holding back on the BIOS flash. Maybe if MSI decides to get rid of this star on my desktop in a future update, I'll reconsider, lol...

Ken I want to order a 099us model from you but I cannot pay by credit card here in the UK. Paypal and wire transfer incur charges so they are pointless. What options are there? Thanks

@ Gentech Hey, I don't know if this is a valid place to ask this, but I'm lazy. I'm planning on getting a DXR with you guys and I'm going to need a new bag. I would just get the bag on the accessories section. However, I would like to know what type of bag you ship. Is it a specific brand? Or does it vary by notebook?

Don't worry he knows, he originally ordered GT780R and decided to wait for the DXR and have some special request on the DXR, right F0uR1ER? :D

The bag depends on the size, we use the bag that fits the laptop size. I am at home now so I can't take some pictures for you, I'll see I can show you the bag on Monday.

I'll work on game videos first since DXR and GT780R looks exactly the same, the only difference is GPU and 180W AC adapter.

Keyboard is the same as GT780R, same backlight and no noticeable flex.

Like Striker said the encoding and uploading takes time, be patient. :)

    Hello,
I was wondering if we should take initative to make a list of recommended/optimal settings for most popular Game titles which is a balance between Frame rate and Game play settings or any special things that should be taken care of.
We can post our findings here and can also ask Stricker to put it in the first page.
    What do you think Guys?
    cheers

A few more quick setup questions for more those of you that already have their GT780R up and running:

    Drivers:
1- What's the best nvidia driver to use right now? Mine came with the 268.12, but the current is the 280.26.
2- My intel chipset driver is slightly outdated (9.2.0.1016 vs -.1030). Anyone have an issue after updating this driver?
3- Is it ok to have both the Intel Wireless LAN and Realtek LAN drivers installed? See here for details.
4- It doesn't look like I have a specific Bluetooth driver installed, as the laptop is using the general Intel CPU driver for this. I upgraded to the 6230 card, but never having Bluetooth before, is this the only driver that I need?
5- Touchpad. I am getting no horizontal or vertical scrolling on the touchpad. Have people had success in fixing this with the driver patch on the first page of this thread?

    Utilities:
1- SBar. I have version 20.011.04296. As far as I can tell, this isn't available on the GT780 site. However, there are two other versions available: -.04155, and -.05137, but MSI doesn't state the differences between them. Anyone know which to use, or if I should stick with my current version?
2-Most utilities MSI has listed on their site, including Lock Indicator, Intel TurboBoost, THX AP/EQ, Nvidia OC, Cinema Pro, iCharger, and Easy Face did not come installed. I'm planning on installing the Lock Indicator & THX -- are any of the others worth installing?

    Thanks!

    Thanks,

    I had two unrelated issues:

There was a little USB wart in one of the right side ports. It was keeping the USB stick from making a good connection. Once I tried another port, the F11 menu recognized it.

I created the USB stick at work and we don't have admin privileges there. I'm trying again at home. Update: that did it. All flashed and got the camera and wireless turned back on.

    Thanks again,
    Homer

Agreed, in the section to the left of the number pad it knda lights up a tad bit less than the rest of the keyboard... Really annoying imho.

Also Ken if you get some time could you show the keyboard a bit when you make the video. I'd really appreciate it if you did considering how one of the main problems with the 780r was the keyboard.

Ah, much thanks. I look forward to getting one of these on my desk! I was surprised to see a notebook with a GTX570M besides the custom built barebook brands such as Sager. Another plus is the matte screen, the glare from my current notebook can be annoying at times.

Not a bad idea. As far as pushing things to the limit goes, I'm actively looking for benchmarks to get an idea what to expect. A few good ones were already posted on this thread. But it would also be great to see what changes would have to be made in terms of graphics settings to get a solid 60FPS average. And also maybe around just playable 30fps as well; though from what I've seen of the less powerful GTX560M, there isn't really anything at the moment that's not playable at at least 30fps, so I have high hopes of the GTX570M.

Are you getting a MSI GT780DXR? If yes then you won't need to compromise a lot. I cannot give you the exact figures as of now. But as soon as I have my laptop I will try to post the max settings which are playable for titles that I have. For the titles I don't have I can try the demo releases. But that can take some time. That is why I was proposing as an alternative to the community that if each can try 2-3 titles exhaustively then we will have huge database of Games and recommended settings.

See the post above for my appeal to the community. As far as I can understand. Solid 60 FPS for all titles is dicey :( . Even 30 FPS for some of them like (Unoptimized title) Metro is not achievable (albeit with highest settings) even with single desktop level cards. You have to get SLI or ATI Crossfire multi GPU setup or even a single card like ATI 6990 or Nvidia 590 with dual GPU.

I'm considering actually waiting for the DXR to arrive in Europe, any idea of how long that might take, mid september? I could import but that would mean i'd have to pay toll, buy a new keyboard and a new adapter due to the US ones using different voltages.

I just looked at the MSi web site and it appears that in the last day they have raised the price on the DX models by about $100. I know direct purchase from the manufacturer generally is more expensive but I hope resellers still get a comfortable whole sale price that the increase isn’t to steep for us.

GenTech has a loadout of the MSI GT780DX-215US starting at $1,549.00. It really depends on where you get it and what you decide to put in it. Providing of course you go to a place that allows customization. {edit} I just noticed that you were talking about the wholesale price all along. Oh well the above info is pretty good to know anyway.

You can change the keyboard in windows to make it easy to type special characters, it is not ideal, but works fine and is easy. The power adapter is universal (100-240v), all you need to do is buy a cheap plug adapter or a new 3 prong laptop power cord for a few euros. This is the part that connects the power brick to the wall outlet.

the entire laptop looks exactly the same.

yes will post the video about new keyboard.

I think it was just the software think it's SATA1 and does not affect actual performance, try HDTune to test the transfer rate:

    HD Tune website

    Yes and already replied. :)

    Edit:
GT780DXR video uploaded. it looks exactly the same as GT780R so I didn't do a new review. the video only shows the keyboard (which also looks exactly the same as GT780R) and some benchmarks/game play with Bad Company 2 overclocked:

Idk why but for me it looks like the keyboard lightning is even worse than 780R from Kens video, lightning is not stable at all - few places brighter few less lightened and keyboard sounds like crashing on every click. Q_Q

    Bzzzt.

SSD is not FAR more useful and the majority would benefit from more memory than wasting money on an SSD.

Faster boot/windows times is not worth the huge disparity in cost between a traditional harddrive and an SSD. Until they are reasonably priced, SSDs are a luxury and not a necessity.

That’s basically how I feel too. Although I think you and I are in the minority though.

Until they are about the same size as a hard drive I will not seriously look at one again. I’ve been there/done that, and it was a pain to manage space (I had 2x128GB in RAID 0). I can understand them being more expensive, but to also be so small makes them almost useless for me to have so little of my stuff on there, plus having to work off an external drive. I don’t mind externals for rarely used stuff, but not my everyday items.

Boot time means nothing to me as I don’t sit at my desk and reboot for fun. I rarely need to do a cold boot with modern OS. Saving a second or two here and there when starting programs or loading a game does not make up for the fact of having to plug in an external every time I need it or even running things off slower external drives if they don’t fit on internals.

A guy at church is talking to me about building a new desktop. He wants to do it himself to save money but then he insists on getting an SSD. Because "that's the way things are going." -- I looked at him very funny and told him how he would be wasting money.

This isn't like getting a blu-ray or DVD because you won't be able to work with others. So "the way things are going" makes absolutely zero sense. It's a luxury, it's sexy, it's cool. And completely unnecessary for nearly every computer out there.

Thank you Ken for making the video, also being able to max out BC2 with silky 50fps while running Fraps is awesome!

The lighting looks the same as the gt780r, still that patch of light kinda dull between the number pad and the actual keyboard, but Ken said the laptop is exactly the same as the gt780r except for the graphics card and keyboard being fixed. Also very limited flex :)
