    microcode usually deals with CPUs.

Maybe for the new sandy bridge models coming out. (2760 etc)

To take all those features away from the 17inch especially that keyboard would be a crime ...

Ah well guess you cant have your cake and eat it too when it comes to MSI barebones.

On the 15inch it does not feel like your missing as much but the 17 yeah...

So from what we've heard, the resellers won't get the GT780DXR models with the GTX 570m until the end of August correct? I need a laptop by Sept 4th, so it sounds like I wouldn't be able to get this by the deadline?

Striker just posted that GentechPC got some today but i imagine that they are all the pre orders etc.

You may want to contact some of the resellers on this board located in Strikers first post in this thread and see if anyone can get you one ASAP.

Thanks. My problem is that I have a very hard time making decisions and there are a lot of nice laptops out there. I'm looking at the 15" and 17" new MSIs with the GTX 570m as well as models from Sager/Clevo. If I can cross one off my list because I couldn't get it in time, it means less to choose from! :D

Honestly if both machines you are looking at are comparably priced then i would go for the MSI especially the GT780R :).

So many features and a MASSIVE standard 3 year warranty included really makes the choice a no brainer.

I have owned too many laptops to count but never an MSI so i cant speak for the quality of the product but this one seriously looks like a sure fire winner.

Striker outlines all the pros in his first post and those are some very legitimate reasons to purchase this one vs any others as of this moment.

The 570m can go head to head with the best of the mobile GPUs and will certainly breath alot of life into this machine as well, so its a solid long term investment.

Things are to tight for me right now to swing this one but if they were not then it would certainly be the one to buy .

Good luck in your decision though and i know it can be very difficult to make up your mind .

Just checked my order status and it is still pending. I will have to patiently wait while you "extra early" adopters have your DXR customized. Hope the rest of us are not too far behind.

From my readings I believe the performance of 570m is a tad lower than 6970m when physx is turned off (Nvidia cards give more performance when physx is off) and when both are at stock settings. But maybe 570m has more room for overclocking, but I'm not too sure on this part.

About image quality, here in Taiwan we think AMD/Ati graphic cards are better, but I've heard people say otherwise on international websites. So I guess you can say they're equal on that part.

Below are some web sites to checkout if you have not already:

    AMD Radeon HD 6970M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

The GPU is very important but it is just a part of what makes up the total system. When things are close on the GPU it is these other items that make up the total system can make the difference in having a system that has the fastest GPU and a system that you love to play on.

You are paying a lot for those extra features. The barebones configured comparably will be around $150 or so cheaper.

So I'm infering that the 2 graphics cards are very similar give or take a couple frames per second right? My 570m if I choose to get the it will always be overclocked when I'm gaming on it and the official 570m drivers should help also right?

The difference between the 2 cards should be negligible at best i would say.

Having come from a 6970m M17xR3 i would have had no problem trading up-sideways whatever to the 570m.

AMD and Nvidia both have pros/cons and can perform different from one title to the next so there never really will be a clear winner in everything.

Either way the 570 will serve you well for quite sometime and you can always overclock if need be to squeeze out some free performance if thats your thing :).

By the way is there any website which we can listen the desibels? For example, I wanna hear the continuous voice when there is 30, 35, 40,50 db etc.

I am playing with OC right now with mod drivers, so maybe I will make some videos tomorrow.

It's pretty quiet when it's idle and I can't notice any difference between GT780R and GT780DXR, you can only hear the air coming out but not the fan, I'll see if I can record some videos.

LOL, long time no see my friend. :)

yes shipment arrived today but only the GTX780DXR-099US.

Also here is the 280.26 mod driver OC'ed:

If we're going to overclock, what is the safe temperature range?

Per chance, do you have a copy of The Witcher 2? I'd be very interested to know if you're able to max it out on the dxr (ubersampling off)... and if so, was it necessary to OC?

This will be my first gaming notebook... I prefer the style, design, & features of the 780dxr, but I'm also considering a Sager to get the 580m. If I can max out The Witcher 2 on the 570m though (30 fps or more)... I'll save myself the extra grand and be satisfied.

New here to the forums. Figured I should join the community since this forum has helped me in making a decision on which GT780 model to get. I need to become more knowledgeable with computers anyways.

I happened to notice on Newegg they have the GT780DX-215US in stock (click for link) but it states having the 560M instead the 570M...isn't that a typo mistake on their part? I plan on getting that model with a few upgrades from GenTech PC, while still knowing it should have the 570M.

I'm trying to update the BIOS. In either setup or F11 Boot Menu, USB Flash Disk is not an option. I see options for the two hard drives, the BRrom and a network boot (?). Am I doing something wrong?

Sounds like the system is not seeing the USB flash, or it has not been properly rendered 'bootable' with UNetBootin. Is it plugged in prior to boot, and entering the F11 boot menu? Many times it will display the USB Flash device's name in the F11 boot menu, i.e. 'Kingston'..... whatever. Check the USB flash drive's assigned name, or reformat it, assigning it a new name you will recognize in the boot menu. I would start over following THESE instructions carefully, step-by-step.

    :)

stupid question, but did you prepare the usb drive correctly with unnetbootin? the instructions striker posted up are great.

after you get into a successful usb reboot with f11, i got a small blue square screen showing me the options (slightly different than what the insructions state). your usb drive should be labeled accordingly by the manufacturer of the usb drive. select that and then the rest of the directions are self-explanatory.

I just unboxed my machine and am getting ready to flash the new BIOS, but may have hit a snag. When I boot up, the BIOS tells me that my 2 HDDs are set as "nonraid", which is what I requested (this is in green text for those of you that have this system). However, when I go into the BIOS it tells me that the "SATA Mode Selection" is in "RAID", and my current BIOS version is E1761IMS. 301, rather than E1761IMS. 1XX.

It is my understanding that a non-RAID setup should have a "1xx" suffix, rather than a "3xx" suffix. Therefore, I don't know which BIOS to flash, or to even flash at all. Currently trying to get ahold of Xotic tech support.

    Anyone else encounter this?

    Much thanks.

No, your mainboard has a RAID controller and supports RAID, so you will want to use bios 308. The 1xx bios is for systems having mainboards without RAID controllers.

    Use this bios...... 1761 308.zip

    :)

Ooooh. Ok, I definitely have no idea how this RAID stuff works, lol. Just to clarify, I thought all the GT780Rs came with the RAID controller, making them all capable of RAID? Or is it only installed if there is more than 1 HDD present...or something?

You still use 3xx to flash the BIOS whether your HDDs is set to RAID or non-RAID.

the 3xx BIOS is for the model that has RAID controllers built-in on the mainboard.
