Great, thanks for the vid! I saw the one you posted for Crysis 2 as well... A bit lower in fps, but still very playable. I was impressed.
Hard to tell from the vid... was that with the DX11 patch in Crysis 2?

Ken, when you opened up the box for the laptop did you get any free game coupons or game trials from MSI or Nvidia?
-
Hey has anyone else pre-ordered from Xotic PC and/or know when they'll start to get the 780DXRs in stock?
-
The Crysis 2 was tested without the patch because I didn't know about the patch at the time.

Hi, I was wondering what is the difference between MSI GT780DX and MSI GT780DXR, besides the RAM and HDD? Is it the chipset?
-
Homer -
Sorry, but it is not the card GenTech PC - Customize System GenTech PC - Customize System , but maybe I don't see it.

(099's) The remaining models are expected in around the 1st week of September.
We have ample stock of the GT683DXR. -

What are the differences between the barebone and the 780DXR?
The barebone seems 200$ cheaper with the same hardware...
Moreover, realistically, how costly is it to ship to Canada (for vendors like Gentech, Xotic, etc.)? What are the applicable taxes, shipping charges and possible border/custom fees?
The only DXR I see available in Canada currently is the 099 at 1900$ CAD, but I'd gladly settle for a minimalist barebone and then go for a ram/SSD in 1-2 years, considering it seems to cost ~1400$ for the barebone + shipping. -

Yes, we ship to Canada. You would be responsible for any GST/HST/PST. To see a good chart showing the tax in your area please go to A & A Contract Customs Brokers - Online tax tables, Canadian PST, GST, HST tax tables online.
For further information just call or email me. -

Backlit keyboard is useless to me.
As for turbo/cooler boost, is it really that useful, and can't it be emulated through software/BIOS?
I care mostly about the dynaudio spreakers and steelseries keyboard, and those seem intact.
Thanks. -

I just bought a new GT780DXR and want to thank everyone for the great information in this thread. I have read all the posts and downloaded all the files, info needed.
I do have one question. There are a number of MSI utilities on their website for this notebook but I don't see anywhere that describes these and says what is good and what is a waste of time.
Can you point me to this or maybe there is no utilities that are worth installing.

OCZ forums are full of customers with Vertex 3 issues.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
We have hundreds of both Intel and OCZ Vertex 3 drives in the field. As long as they have current firmware we do not find one to be more reliable than the other.
-
I am sure there are thousands of satisfied Vertex 3 customers but appears those not happy are extremely vocal. Do you research and make your own decision as you are the one that needs to be happy with it.
Btw Thursday is my big day. Tracking data says that my GT780DXR will be delivered by end of day. Yea! -
-
Are you planning to review performance of few game titles? -
barebones have this turbo/cooler boost function or standard 780dxr????

I have an OCZ Vertex 3, all OK!!

Barebone notebooks are ones you finish building yourself.
They miss out the CPU/RAM/HDDs/Wireless.
Then again a quick google search would have told you that....... -
I've been thinking, the DX-X8 that is sold on powernotebooks is the same as every msi 780 right as in easy to uppgrade. Keeping in mind the import tax of 25% here in sweden, would it be an idea, well in terms of pricing to simply get the essentials and then when i get it myself look to uppgrade some of the other parts (mainly HDD and RAM). Processor would only be if i got the money to.
Considering that the only model sold in sweden costs 3.2k USD (19.990 swedish crowns). i would save alot of money, and the model in sweden comes with a 120 gig SSD and 16 gig ram which doesn't interest me alot.
Also, would 8 gig ddr3 compared to kingstons 8gig ddr3 setup make any major difference performancewise? -
did anyone try to install Ubuntu on this laptop?
-
It's a good thing I got the notebook when I was in the UAE, which only had a 5% import tax -

I plan to post my initial experience with the new unit. My main reason for getting the GT780 was to have a system that could easily handle Premier pro and Photoshop work while being somewhat portable (no laughter please). Once I get things setup I will see what I can do to provide data on games.
-
-
I would be interested in knowing about your experience with Photoshop too. I guess you will benifit with GPU acceleration (Am not sure). I too have always built my own Desktop. Normally I buy a laptop and upgrade it over a period of time. With Gt 780DXR it looks apart from Processor and GPU (maybe when you have 32nm fab GPUs with similar power consumption but higher performance) there is nothing left to be upgraded.
By the way if anybody can tell me if there is any spare PCIe slot available inside GT780 DXR. -
Anyone know when gt780 dx x8 will be available?

overclocking the gtx560m nets me a .1 increase in my windows experience ratings for the graphics and gaming categories, from 7.2 to 7.3. just curious, what are the stock and overclocked windows experience ratings for the gtx570m?
