So I'm new to the forum and am planning on picking up a gaming laptop and I am pretty sure I'm going to pick up the GT780DX when it comes out but through searching all over the internet I still have a couple questions that I hope you guys could answer:
    1. Is the only difference between the GT780R and the DX the GPU?
1.5 Has the GT780DX came out yet?
    2. Are they planning on releasing a 15in with the 570M?
    3. Does the Asus G74sx-a1 perform any better then the GT780, The only difference I could find between the two were that the MSI had less GDDR3? then the asus and I'm really not sure how much of a performance difference that would make. Thanks in advance for helping me in deciding what I should get.

Major difference is the GPU, a few models with different memory and HDD configurations.

    GT780DXR is due around 08/19

The GT683DXR will be the 15.6" with the 570M

    1. Correct. According to the MSI tech I spoke to few weeks ago, the 560M to 570M was the only difference. However, some other forum member spoke to support from MSI few days ago and they said that DXR will have a corrected Steelseries keyboard. What is corrected, we don`t know yet.

    2. Yes, the GT683R will also have a GT683DXR with 570M.

    3. The 560M is factory overclocked on the MSI laptop. So it performs better than G74SX like reviews have shown. We are talking about a few hundred point better score with Vantage.
More GDDR than 1.5GB (GT780) don`t really make a big impact. They have the same memory bandwith (192bit) and should perform equally when not paired with a 120Hz screen.

When you say 'they' of course you mean a 3gb vs 1.5gb 570m, not the 560m which can't really match the 570m in terms of performance.

There won't be a big difference in the 3GB DDR5 vs 1.5GB DDR5. The only way to see a difference is if a user was exporting onto a 30"+ screen and running the game. In 3D mode there will be a larger difference, theoretically up to a 10 frame difference. In 3D rendering there may also be a difference but for most geeks who are just playing games natively on the panel there will be minimal gain.

Hello, I'm new to these forums and decided to finally (been looking for 6 months) buy the MSI GT780DX! The fact that I'm getting a 17inch, 570m graphics card with a matte screen finish is just almost impossible to beat for a $1600 price range which fit almost perfectly into my budget. Anybody know when the laptop will officially be out and shipping?

The current ETA for arrival in the US is the week of the 15th, but it could be sooner...or later :)

MSI has been pretty accurate with their release dates though, so I expect them to start shipping to customers the week of the 15th.

I'm looking to upgrade my GT780R stock optical drive with at least a 6X Blu-ray reader. I'd assume I could fit the existing drive cover onto a new drive but I'm lost as to what drive to buy that would fit. Any ideas?

Hey Guys I kinda need your help. I finally received my GT780r from newegg two days ago. I wasnt able to play anything until tonight.Anyways, I noticed that I am seeing a lot grey lines in the darker areas of the screen, exactly like Meksla's photos. I have Cinema Pro turned off.Has anyone figured out a solution? Is this a GPU issue? I really hope this isnt the downfall of the beast machine....

The X8 model is not an official SKU, and has 4GB less system memory than the official 215US SKU. When comparing models, carefully compare specs and SHIPPING cost.

    :)

Yes, the GT780DXR-099US is an official SKU. All official MSI GT780DXR SKU's for the U.S. are listed HERE, with their specifications and pricing.

    :)

I have one such 6X BR reader listed in my SIG..... click the link below! When shopping for an optical BR reader, you may also want to insure it's WIN 7 certified, and that it does not have a history of read errors.

    :)

When you say official model, what specifically does that mean? Same goes with not official sku, and how is it even possible to have an unofficial sku?

An SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) is a model's designation, per build specification and pricing, as officially established by the manufacturer (MSI). An unofficial SKU would be any model's designation, build specification, and pricing, not officially sanctioned by the manufacturer. In most cases, an unoffficial SKU is simply an official model which has been scavenged or downgraded by the seller, to provide cheaper buying options...... but this practice can be in violation of agreements between the seller and manufacturer.

    :)

Well, I cannot speak to any violation of agreements with the manufacturer here, but I can say the X8 model is not an official MSI SKU. I would imagine it's simply a 215US model, with 4GB of ram scavenged. If you are comfortable with this, and don't need the system ram, why not? PowerNotebooks is a legitimate reseller. Another thought here..... If PowerNotebooks can do this with no violations with MSI, most likely all the other resellers can make the same downgrade offer too..... without the need of creating an unofficial model SKU. This is a little something that makes me go..... "Hmmmmm"?

    :)

Well they still offer the standard 3 year warranty, and power notebooks is a legitimate website, however I would still like an official msi sku because it is what majority will be buying and I would hate being a minority when it comes to such a high standard laptop. And if God forbidden anything goes wrong I would like to directly contact msi and have absolutely no problem communicating with them.

Well again, I suspect PowerNotebook's 'X8' designation, will be nothing more than a GT780DX-215US with 4GB DDR3 removed..... so I really doubt you would have any issues. Ultimately, the notebook's serial number will tell MSI all they need know.

Anyhow, good luck in what ever you decide.

Well, all was good for a little while. Yesterday my computer 'hung up' while playing a video and I had to manually restart it. Today I've had screen troubles as already listed in the forum and the power jack will stop charging when moved the wrong way ( up and to the right). I already emailed Ken about the power jack, but the screen issue occurred after my email and I forgot to mention the crash yesterday. This is sad because everything about this laptop was great until these last few days.
So I guess my questions are:
    1. Is anybody else having these issues?
    2. Is there any fixes for the screen yet?
    3. How is the RMA process? Do I have to pay return shipping?

There are a few resellers that have a BTO contract with MSI so that we can make modifications. PowerNotebooks.com, Xoticpc and GenTech are among these resellers.

There is absolutely no advantage to buying an "official" SKU as long as you are buying from an authorized MSI BTO reseller. As a matter of fact, most people recognize that dealing with such a reseller is a better way to go because of the ability to customize, and the extra support offered.

The 099 SKU is exclusive to Newegg, so even if others are offering it, they are only building a Channel GT780 SKU to match those specs.

Just bought my gt780r about a week now and everything seems ok for now except my track pad seems to be overly sensitive as I barely have to graze the pad for it to register a click. As a result, if I am typing I have to disable the pad so that the cursor jumps to the begining, middle or end of my document.

I purchased 2 x Vertex 3 Max IOPS (120GB) and running in RAID 0. I felt the need for speed but I got dirt in my face instead. When running in RAID 0, I get random hangs when I am installing Windows 7 and can therefore never complete the install. I set the SATA config to "RAID" in the Bios. I tried and tried and finally have given up. $600 for 2 SSD to behave like this is a sad investment. I stuck my trusty Intel 320 120gb back in and running with the AHCI setting in the BIOS. It installs without a hitch. Similarily the VERTEX 3 Max IOPS could install windows but NOT in RAID Mode, only with AHCI set in the BIOS. It really bites! Does anyone else have these drives running on their notebooks in RAID 0? I really want to get it working, but looks like they are going back to the store. Too bad :(

As I am typing...I have disabled the trackpad and I am having problems typing as the cursor is randomly jumping around causing words I typed to get written over or inserted in random areas of this post...Strange. Any fix for this?

    Thanks..

Hi guys! I have some questions, and i want to make a new thread, but i will post my questions here first. I just bought an Toshiba Qsimio x775 Q7272 2 weeks ago, and i just know MSI is going to release new laptops with GTX570m. So should i return toshiba laptop to get MSI instead? The Toshiba laptop costs me $1350 with a free xbox, i can sell that xbox to make this laptop's cost down to ~$1200. So is it worth to spend $400 more to get new MSI laptop? And i have a question about temperature for gt780r owners, what temps of CPU/GPU are you guys getting when gaming without turbo fan? Thanks!

my msi gt780r came with out a recovery cd, or windows reinstaller disk, so i had to make one of my own, and even then i need to put drivers, on to the oem reinstaller disk, before i could install on to raid 0,

i made a reinstalled windows oem home perimum 64bit cd, with this guide : http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...-7-download-links-just-like-vista-before.html

but when i installed windows, it gave me and error, when it was completing the installation,

i found out that i need the newest drivers, for the raid. and incorperate in to windows 7 oem home perimum 64bit disk, so i made and iso, from my new windows 7 oem install disk"made from the : http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...-7-download-links-just-like-vista-before.html ", and then i needed to take out the install.wim, and the boot.wim and incorparate the drivers for the raid, and then put the install.wim and boot.wim back on to the .iso, and then burn out the cd, and when i installed with the new drivers, it worked perfecktly!

here are the drivers for the raid : http://www.msi.com/service/download/nbdriver-14905.html

and here is the tools you need :

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd349343(WS.10).aspx

And here is how to put the drivers on to the windows installation : http://superuser.com/questions/63773/how-to-add-drivers-to-windows-7-installation-dvd <--- it takes some time to do this, it took me around 8 -14mins pr driver, i neede to put in,

    Edit,
    easy methode

    2. thing you can do, is :

put in the normale drives that came with the computer, run windows,
then Use msi burner program, and make the recovery Cds, in my case it made 4 Dvds,<-- it contens the recovery drive, that is found on you harddrive " the F3 recovery partition". and you can also just reinstall windows 7 with it

then put in your ssd's, and then use the recovery cds, to reinstall your computer, done, you will then have a not Clean windows installation,

Yup that is what Vertex 3 owners are struggling with. Random freezes, BSODs and failures. Maybe you can RMA the SSDs? Buy Crucial or Intel instead if you get the RMA granted because they are much more reliable

Here is a fix for your touchpad problems:
    GT780 (1761) & GT680/GT683 (16F2) Sentelic Touchpad registry patch (beta)
About the touchpad sensibility: Have you tried go to settings in windows and reduce the sensibility of the touchpad?

I have a 120GB Vertex 3 in my system and I get the random freeze ups as well, but I didnt think of it as much of a problem. I bought my lappy from Ken, so would I have to send the SSD to him, or to OCZ here in Europe. If this is an official issue, I would like to get rid of it.

This is a common problem with the OCZ SSD drives, this was brought up in this thread or a similar in the MSI forum. 1 out of 10 OCZ drives will work perfectly, the other 9 will have BSOD, drive not detected, or lag problems. If you look in the OCZ forums you will see most end-users with the same problems. They have released firmware after firmware and these issues still exist. The Intel drives are 100% compatible in raid or independent.

I am running a OCZ vertex2 and it has strange behavior also, second one BTW, the first died after a week. Bios only sees it when in IDE, if I change it to AHCI, it is not recognized in the bios. It works, but will be the last OCZ ssd I buy.

Try contacting OCZ to see if they can offer a solution.
