Hmmmmm..... special SKU? Sounds a little slippery. Is it an official SKU, or not?
There ya go folks! Donald seems to infer the GT780DXR-099US is not an official MSI SKU.... or maybe it's just LESS official? Well what ever it is, it may not be official..... but it sure is SPECIAL, LOL!

says 6X Blu-Ray Writer/8X DVDRW combo drive
but there is only 4x writer in the customization page.
4X Blu-Ray Re-Writer/8X DVDRW Super Multi Combo Drive (Standard)
EDIT :: IT is corrected
cheers -
Is it a really significant change though, from
The 560m to the 570m? -

Looking at Notebook Check HERE, it is right below the 485M
It is a nice addition indeed!
-
Allright, from $2595 to $2460 for my setup with the newest SKU. Or $2022 for the same setup but with 2630QM instead of 2720QM. And one of the reasons why I think 2720QM is interesting is because it is faster IGP but since this laptop doesn`t have Optimus I cannot access the IGP anyways. Who knows, maybe I`ll skip it
@Ken Lee: What is it that is making your site so freaking slow? Is it the Komodo security stuff? Neither Xotic or Powernotebooks have this annoying delay when accessing their site. Fix it asap zulu please -

Us dealers will likely not see it.

Hello Ken,
Another question regarding the IC Diamond thermal compound.
I see only with the MSI GT780DXR-099US SKU the cost has increased more than twice. On all your customization link for other SKUs it is listed as USD 35
IC Diamond 24 Carat Thermal Compound on both CPU/GPU [+ $35.00]
and for US99 SKU.
IC Diamond 24 Carat Thermal Compound on both CPU/GPU [+ $75.00]
cheers -
(granted the 560m's clocks are higher)
This makes it an underclocked Desktop GTX 460 768 with twice the ram
(note that card is STILL on "best value" desktop GPU lists like the one at tomshardware.)
The result should be a GPU that performs just under a 6970m IMHO.
That makes it a fairly significant upgrade from the 560m.
Note, the real gem will be in how it OCs as its default clocks are low. -
After reading every post, comparing, re-comparing, comparing again.....should I order now?..... should I wait?.... enough time past that today I place my pre-order with GenTech for the MSI GT780DXR-099US GTX 570M.
The deed is done!Ken it is in yours hands now
Thank you to everyone for their post. We would be driving blind without it. -

If those scores are true, then its pretty much dead-on an 6970m, maybe a little slower or faster either way.
Are those stock scores? -

looks to be quite a large bump from gtx560m to gtx570m. nice!

570M will be a beast and good enough for years to come.
I wonder how the thermals are compared to 560M though. -
how do I hide the s-bar?
Cant find any option to hide/close it.
but the app needs to be running for eject and stuff to work, right? -

Notebook Check has the following info though I do not see thermals mentioned:

Do you have the latest S-Bar software installed, S-bar 2.0 (ver. 20.011.05137), 6-15-2011?
It can be downloaded here.

I am glad to be with Gentech. Finally updated my configuration with Ken´s help for US 099 SKU.
I ordered in the last week of June. The wait is over Nvidia GTX 570M seems very promising for a laptop. -
Yup. Only 80W TDP, which is 5W more than 560M but a world difference in performance
-
Ken Lee has been very supportive and for all you guys here until the laptop is there with GentechPc final cutomization is still possible.

Pretty nice desktop you have too fourier. What you need the GT780DXR for lol

GT780DXR is my mobility substitute and when you want nice little comfort of a laptop. Desktop is cumbersome while laptop is pretty carries lots of oomph.
Did you notice there is no SSD mentioned. I don´t trust them even after reading all Anandtech and blah blah.
@Cloudfire : GT780DXR is lovely gift from wife so it is more than any desktop. desktop vs laptop is like male vs female. I hope you understand. -
Man you should get a SSD. They are so awesome. It is probably the piece of hardware that you will notice most difference with. Loading games/programs etc goes real fast, unpacking and packing files too, booting up is extremely fast, shutting down takes 5 seconds, no clicking noise you hear from HDDs (total silence), they produce very little heat, use very little energy compared to HDDs, etc etc
I will never ever ever go back to HDDs. Period. -
Greetings to all, I just got my 780r-012us yesterday after returning a g74sx, had to bring it back cause of it's physical size and sucky screen. This is my first MSI coming from an Asus G72GX andI am liking this much better and have been reading through the forum and seen issues with keyboard, only thing with my keyboard is that it has a bit of a high spot in the middle, it doesn't flex or anything it just sticks up a bit, was wondering if anyone else had an issue like that. My other thing is i want to put an ssd in but have a nifty little sticker on the bottom that says warranty void if removed, can anybody tell me if MSI is gonna kill my warranty if i pull cover.

If there's anything that I'm unsure of, I'll PM u
Now I'm regretting that I bought it so early, should have waited for the GT780DXR, there's not much of a difference in terms of price and the GTX570m more powerful than the GT560m, arrghhh =( -
I think all of new DXRs have matte screen. why?
-
PredatoR_TR said: ↑I think all of new DXRs have matte screen. why?Click to expand...
Some of the resellers here have other options for the screen for the current model, I'm sure they will offer something similar for the DXR, if that's what you need.
I've been very happy with this matte screen. I used to have a ASUS-G73-A1 and it was like looking in a mirror. I fly a lot and have pulled the laptop out to actually do some work in the air and the screen is perfect; no horrible glares reflecting from overhead lights or open window shades or whatever everyone else is doing.
I've been traveling with this laptop for almost a month and a half and have not had any problems with the keyboard cables coming loose. I am not a great typist but the keyboard hasn't had any of the issues with "hard to hit" keys I've read about.
I do have the slightly darker area around the "O" and bright "AltGr" and "Ctrl" on the right. They don't bother me and I don't know if it's worth me trying the dbl-sided sticky tape fix. -
agree with Cloudfire, i wont ever go back to normal hdd again, ssd all the way for primary hdd.
matte screen is so better than glossy, that's second don't look back thing for me.
people spending money on upgrades from 560m to 570m i guess its their choice. i just wouldn't bother, since 560m is more than just enough for me.
the only down side is msi bar. i'm using stardock objectdock plus, so i had to disable msi bar. right click mouse eject does the job.
my two cents -

Cloudfire said: ↑So you wouldn`t say that the GT780R is too heavy for carrying it with you on travels?Click to expand...
I am currently using a pretty basic Targus laptop bag. I've been trying to consolidate other "junk" items I travel with and have been fairly successful. Because of my status flying I get upgraded frequently and first class is the easiest place to work without having the screen thrust into your face when the guy in front of you reclines.
I also mentioned in the past the GT780R fits in the TSA bins at the airport, my ASUS G73-A1 sat at funny angle because it was too big.
So overall the GT780R hasn't been trouble at all to travel with.
We could have an ongoing discussion about hotel internet speeds though... That can be a drag even at high end places if they haven't upgraded their infrastructure. -

a keyboard where the keys come up through the case like on a macbook or asus g73/74 should be immune to this type of problem. -
Is the configuration possible on GT780R / GT780DXR:
Bay 1 - SSD
Bay2 + CD Drive tray (hdd adaptor) = Raid 0

Question is: Do I *NEED* the GTX 570M or do I settle with the 560M? Argh!

560M version will be $250ish cheaper than DXR and that is a plus. I know that 560M play all games, almost all on highest settings, and frankly, I can live with lower settings in some selected games.
But I also have the golden opportunity to get a serious kick as* GPU now. I want to see a review where they show the temperature to see how much hotter the 570M run though -

The CD Tray SATA controller is SATA II not SATA III which has different speed.
Also here is the update from MSI Taiwan regarding the BIOS boot priority fixed laptop won't boot if USB bootable device is connected:
The new boot priority:

The Intel Turbo Boost monitor can be switched off on start-up by using CCleaner to disable it. It's what I used because I got tired of going to the Task Manager to end the process it was running off of. -
What is the difference between the GT780DX and the GT780DXR that makes it like $20 more or so?
