    Yeah, please let us know!

I do have a problem with the .PDF flash instructions however..... unless I am missing something here.

After using ' Unetbootin' to create a FreeDOS bootable USB, and then extracting the flash .ZIP file to the USB, it says to reboot the system with this USB..... to wit, when booted you will be at the DOS Command prompt, A:\.

It then suggest changing the drive letter to C:\ to execute the flash batch file, "ECALL.BAT". Problem is in DOS if you change to drive letter C:\, this will bring you to the root directory of the primary HHD. In otherwords, you will need to actually change to the drive letter wherein the USB is assigned, rather than C:\.

Also, the EC Flash download link was posted about, and has been on the lead post (downloads section) for about three weeks now..... but at the time it was an older EC flash.

    :)

hmmm yeah strange, the thing is im not sure about that freedos would be able to read NTFS filesystem (C: ) , so the only Filesystem it supports is Fat/Fat32 ie the flash drive Filesystem :)

Prior to creation of the FreeDOS boot USB with Unetbootin, 'quick format' the USB with Windows default setting (FAT32, 4096k blocks), and you should have no problems.

I found one polish hardware store that have listed the GT780DXR version. Cost around $2000.

Both these two polish e-shops are not reliable at all. First of them is unknown, second isn't no-name, but I can't say that I trust their offer. Before they didn't sell any gaming's notebooks. Unfortunately it is fake.

This offer isn't fake, but they typed in 'product code' GT683DXR place of GT683R. Typo.

Sure. Typo is only in the third offer, because price is too similar to GT683R price and I think so they made a mistake in nomenclature. Don't belive in this three offers.

ETA on GT683DXR is the same what GT780DXR?

    Hello,

I am interested in having this laptop but I am a bit concerned about the keyboards issues. Is it a hardware issue or it is more like the mousepad issue that can be solved with a patch?
Do we have an idea of the % of RMA for the GT780R?

I wanted to buy it on newegg but the buyer's comments make me scared :D I will probably wait until the end of the month to see if the 'normal' problem of a new series can be easily solved.

Not 100% sure if it's the keyboard problem, the connector for the ribbon seem very easy to get loose especially during shipping.

Few customers has keyboard lag, missing keystrokes right after they received, I asked them to check the ribbon cable and after they reseat the ribbon everything work perfectly:

    "Works now thanks Alot! :D".

so anyone who has keyboard issues i strongly recommend check the ribbon first:

On my finding I think the problem is with the connector itself, the connector is too short for the ribbon to fit in deeper, that cause the ribbon to get loose very easy especially during shipping.

from now on we will tape and secured the ribbon before ship.

I've had no problems other than the BIOS boot priority that I failed to recognize the first day. So far, it's been completely smooth sailing and I've been playing SC2 at around 55-60 FPS on Extreme settings. I think my keyboard is in fact very crisp, and I am satisfied with it. Some of the placement of the keys (Home, End, etc.) are a bit wonky but I can adjust fairly quickly. I haven't noticed a certain need to strike the keys on the exact center for the computer to register it other than in the Backspace key, but it's large enough to be a forgiving mistake.

Honestly, I don't think a 570m was worth the wait for me because I needed this before I go down to college in about a month. Having a lower-powered GPU will (maybe) keep me from playing too much when I should be studying.

Anyways, I want to thank you again Ken for checking everything out before you shipped this unit out. I'm extremely satisfied and for all you prospective buyers out there, don't be discouraged by the reviews and ask your retailers to test out the unit for you. The three listed on the first post I would say are the most helpful and responsive dealers. With GenTech and Ken, I've had a great experience.

I hope those who have had problems can get them resolved in a timely manner, there should be nothing stopping you from enjoying such a wonderful machine! :)

I bought this from xoticpc.com and this is their reply.. Please contact MSI and we can't do nothing else for you since your unit has been shipped on 06/14/2011 and it's our policy that we only cover our stuff for only 10 days of its shipping date. Omg.. Is this some kind of joke? What was I doing all this time? I've contacted them about not being able to make recovery disc. Their answer, ask msi to send you one. Few days after, i contacted them about battery. Their answer - Contact msi for replacement. And I just wasted 3 weeks of my time try this and try that crap from msi that I already tried and didn't work. Now, contacted xoticpc about keyboard problem... their answer, contact msi for replacement.

...... WTH!! Is this some kind of joke? Everyone told me xoticpc was reputable vendor for years and all I get is contact the company? I received defected unit and wasted so much time and effort and now all they say is contact MSI? ok, so what if msi agree to send me replacement unit? I highly doubt it will have no dead pixel guarantee or ic diamond thermal compound upgrade on cpu/gpu.. heck I doubt they would even notice my optical drive has been upgraded to bluray even if I make a note.. Now I am really mad and regret I got this from xoticpc.com.. omg.. I most likely never buy anything from them in the future unless they give me either refund or proper replacement.

Five weeks is a long time, to finally seek replacement or refund. There does come a time when you can no longer look to the reseller for relief, or hold them responsible. Xotic does have their policies, clearly posted, and your warranty is with MSI. Perhaps it is time to exercise that warranty, and move on to the RMA process. MSI will either repair or replace your notebook.

Have you spoken with Justin personally about this? You can also PM him right here in the forum. Maybe he will aide you working with MSI in this process. I think most everyone here takes notice, how the resellers handle their customers needs.

Also, did you register your notebook with MSI? If not, I would do this right away.

I know this is frustrating, inconvenient, and can be costly...... but the sooner you get things rolling, the sooner you can reach some form of satisfaction or closure. I wish you well in this ordeal, and do please keep us informed in your journey..... ESPECIALLY if Justin/Xotic will assist your further, and the quality of service you receive with MSI!

    :)

nope.. no Justin yet.. This guy named Brett was sales person and then he transferred me to this guy named Joseph from service department ever since I encountered my very first problem(not being able to make recovery disc). Since then, all their reply was contact msi for assistant over and over. And what kind of help did I get from MSI? They did give me many things to try over the time but none really fixed any of problems I had.. I am just so mad at this point.. So what will msi do? even if they give me replacement, if I receive the unit with one dead pixel.. I will be darned and pissed off even more.. they will also most likely not reapply ic diamond thermal paste on gpu and cpu nor give a crap about bluray replacement. Let's say I rma it and receive a unit that has no battery or keyboard problem but with one dead pixel with dvd drive instead of bluray let alone no thermal compound upgrade. Who the heck can I talk to then? They will come out with their stupid dead pixel policy(6+ or 3 within 15mm diameter) and won't replace my unit again. Optical drive? They will most likely ask me to send it back again but tell me you pay the shipping.. something like that. I don't wanna go through all this most likely to happen scenario by sending it to msi. If you know what I mean..

Here ya go, give him a PM.........

    Justin@XoticPC

Reading your post, it seems no matter what options are available, you are determined it will turn out badly.

When seeking help from others in this matter, I would keep things 'to the point', with less negativity and frustration. Sometimes 'less', really is 'more'.

At least now, you know your position, so you might as well get on with it and see how things turn out.

As far as your Blu-Ray drive, be sure to make note of this on your RMA, and include a copy of your invoice from Xotic.

Again, good luck, and let us know how it all works out.

    :)

I just shoot pm to him and hopefully he can do something about my problems. :(

I am being negative coz I am forced to.. my previous msi gt680r was recalled model so when they released fixed model, msi did free advanced replacement for me and I was very happy.. But the new unit I received had bunch of dead pixels on.. fortunately it had 4 dead pixels in 15mm diameter so I could ask msi for replacement. However, I was forced to pay the shipping even though I received defected unit. So let's do the math here.. that's $25 wasted money + 8 days of wasted time on me. Also these days, so many laptops have 1 or 2 dead/stuck pixels.. It's almost likely 50/50 chance and I am the type who can't stand for dead pixel even if there's one. So for me, there's no way I can stay positive here right now. Why do you think I paid extra for dead pixel policy? Really.. even if everything works perfect, if it has even 1 dead pixel, that unit is failure to me. I want it to have perfect screen and absolutely no scratches on body and screen. I baby my laptop so bad, all my laptop looked like brand new even when I sell them an year after. I am so uneasy right now coz this RMA can potentially create new problem for me in 50/50 chance or maybe higher. :(

    Seriously man, calm down.

Stop thinking so negative and imagine catastrophic scenarios. Just because you got the previous MSI with dead pixels doesn`t mean it has to happen again.
And hell no if the chance of getting one with dead pixels is 50/50. I have owned many laptops over the years and I have not had one with a dead pixel.

Yes I`m with you that it sucks not getting the IC diamond. But like mentioned earlier in this thread (got knows what page) the stock paste they use are MX paste and is extremely good. Almost as good as IC diamond ;)
Even if you want the repaste, you can easily do it yourself since it is just to remove the backpanel and screw out the heatsinks from GPU and CPU.

And you should recieve a replacement from MSI imo. They have given you a lot of steps to follow to try and fix it, and I think it is fair that they follow up when they don`t work.

I don`t know what you and XoticPC talked about but I think it is a little bad service if they are not willing to try and help and instead refer you to MSI customer service. Either they need to improve the customer service, or they had no other choice than refer you to MSI since they didn`t know how to help with your problems.

@shin777 I have replied to your PM. I am sorry to hear of these issues you are experiencing. We are always happy to help you sort out any technical issues with your laptop. We would be happy to set up the RMA for you with MSI and will advise them of the customizations on your laptop. We are a close partner with MSI and we will ensure you will get back a perfect machine and with the upgrades you purchased. We have never advised you we cannot do anything for you, we advised that we can not approve a refund on your laptop with it shipping 5+ weeks ago. That does not mean in any way we will not help you with any problems you are experiencing. Only some items can be repaired by MSI themselves, which in your case we are more then happy to help you with.

MSI has improved their warranty service and I am sorry to hear you had a bad experience in the past with them. We are here to work with you and MSI to ensure any RMA goes as smooth as possible. Please ensure you set this up through us, as we will let MSI know if your upgrades and do all the leg work on setting up the RMA.

Please don't hesitate to shoot me a reply to my PM if I can help with anything. :)

Check gpu-z or msi afterburner it should change your core clocks from 775 to 813.

A couple of problems in this though.

One... it's not been five weeks since he reported the problems. It seems to me that the assessment should be based on when he reported, not when he sought final remedy. He should not be penalized for attempting to work through the problems with the vendor. Otherwise they could simply stall until the magic window of time closes and brush him off.

Two... 10 days from ship date is RIDICULOUS. It should be at least 10 days from RECEIPT. Again, the end user is penalized for shipping time when he has no opportunity to test the unit, etc... Ground shipping could easily eat up 7 of those 10 days.

I do strongly agree with Guru. I am also getting my MSI GT780DXR from Gentech and it is being shipped to Europe therefore some extra grace days need to be given for testing and verification.

I understand and appreciate your feedback. We normally allow a few extra days grace period on top of this but up to 5 weeks unfortunately, as most sellers, will be unable to set up a refund. With this customer the only reported issue was the recovery disk. Approximately the 4th week this customer mentioned a concern with the battery.

I believe we are the only seller, that I am aware of, that doesn't charge a re-stocking fee for custom systems within the return period. From what I have seen most other sellers (if not all) charge a restocking fee (under there discretion) for any customized system that is returned even if it is within the "return period". We always try to work each customer to the best of our ability. I think we have this now taken care of with this customer and are assisting with setting up the RMA with MSI to get these issues reviewed/resolved.

Keep an eye open for this if you customize the system.

my gt780r didn't come with "msi afterburner." is this the same as the "turbo" p1 button on the power strip above the keyboard?

The p1 turbo button is a program that overclocks the gpu core to a preset 813mhz. Msi Afterburner is a application that allows you to oc your gpu (core and memory) to anything you want (within reason of course). For example I have mine oc'ed to 920/1840.
