The nVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M 256bit w/2.0GB GDDR5 and AMD HD 6990 may be supported in the future, but the decision has yet to be made.

We also don't know what if any case, motherboard or AC Adapter modifications might be necessary.

You might enjoy the video "Shootout between MSI GT780R and ASUS G74SX-A1" at ‪PowerNotebooks's Channel‬‏ - YouTube

OMG, You Didn't! I don't believe you featured a GT780R video, with those DARN BRIGHT KEYS, LOL! Shame, shame! Expect the nit-pick keyboard police soon! They will be stopping by to apply some tape shortly!

:D :D :D

NICE video Donald!

:)

EDIT: Hold the phone, hold the phone! A GTX 580M or AMD HD 6990 may be supported in the future? Perhaps some unknown future MSI model. Surely you are not suggesting in the GT780? I'll bet that decision doesn't go far. Sounds like someone is fantasizing, wishful thinking, or blowing smoke.
Where did this come from? I guess the moon might turn purple too, but the universe hasn't decided yet.

:)

Just got the GTX570M 3DMark 11 benchmarks, the first screenshot is overclocked and second screenshot without overclock. MSI still using old driver so the results will be much better with manual overclock and 275.50 driver:

They only told me it was older driver and working with nVidia with newer driver, they said the result will be much better when the got the new driver.

ETA is still end of July and they've decided to use 180W adapter instead.

Actually, the ETA has now moved to mid-August. It may yet move again...but this is typical in this industry. Original target dates are rarely hit.

Don`t know if this video have been posted before, but paladin and Co. have made a comparison video between Asus G74SX and GT780R.

Looks like the lightning on the MSI is superior and is more even than the Asus laptop. That pretty much settles it for me I think. Was debating between them and the G74 is also a bit bigger.

Hello Fellows,
I have been following this thread since last one month and I ordered my GT780R from Gentech via Ken Lee on 26th of June but I decided to wait till GTX 570M is officially in this laptop. Thanks to Ken that he agreed to update my order.
I was expecting that with 570M MSi might beef up their power brick as -=$tR|k3r=- has pointed out. By the way with Furmark the GPU temperature as reported by Paladin seems to be too high 90 degrees Celsius on MSI as compared to Asus G74 SX. I understand Furmark is not realistic but still maybe GTX 570M might have trouble cooling. What do you experts say about this?
Cheers

Of course you realize that as soon as the GTX 570M is officially in, the rumors of the GTX 580M will start with a ship date of just a few more weeks away.

Bottom line, there is ALWAYS something better coming. Your machine will ALWAYS be "not the newest" before you receive it. You will have spent too much time waiting for a system than enjoying it.

Just order and be happy :)

Confirmed with MSI they will not use 580M or 6970, for 580M there will be thermal issues and the chassis needs to be redesign and so is the mainboard, and 6970 will be discontinue by AMD.

I am not waiting for GTX 580M. I wll be rather Happy with GTX 570M. The best from Nvidia costs double the second best and performance is not that different. Besides there is no other laptop like GT 780R. I have already ordered but I want to get the GT780DXR.

I am happy with curren configuration offered by DXR.

There is more than enough thermal room for an extra 5W heat from the 570M. I made a comparison chart from notebookcheck and it shows that the cooling system is top notch in this system.

Internal temperatures would be a bit higher but you shouldn`t really pay too much attention to the burn in test they used with Furmark. No scenario would be anything like this anyways. G74 is on top in this pic :)
Notebookcheck found a different result than what powernotebooks did though. GT780R is cooler than the G74 from what they found out. Atleast on the outside.

No 6990M either, again, according to MSI engineer from HQ in Taiwan, GT780R wasn't designed to handle GPU like 580M or 6990M, if it does in the future then it won't be GT780R or won't even be 580M or 6990M. it could be completely different model and 580M and 6990M might already been discontinued.

GTX 570M and 180W adapter.

Interesting, because Ken just posted the following:

Who are you going to believe, huh? Perhaps the folks in Sweden will not see the GT780DXR till September, but maybe folks in the U.S. may be seeing these by the end of the month. Who knows? But I am betting Ken's information is good, so I'll anticipate my GT780DXR very soon.

:)

EDIT: LOL! Sorry Ken, we posted at the same time! GOOD EVENING! You have the floor now!

In the USA it will be neither. Proper expectations should focus on mid to late August. They will not be here sooner...it is possible it will be later...so let's hope that mid to late August turns out to be real.

september is a long time to wait... agreed, just get something and enjoy it now if you need it.

i am kind of saddened by the fact that the gtx580 won't be working with the msi gt780r... especially since some notebooks will be available with dual gtx580 in sli. either way, i'm happy with the gt780r. it's a very nice notebook.

September is not US release date.

Because the chassis and mainboard not designed to work with 580M or 6990M, it might runs too hot and create problems.

They decided to use 180W adapter because their test result says it needs 180W, 150W might shorten the adapter life.

Laptop is on the MSI repair shop to be fixed...ETA with shipping almost end of July...

How much the Nvidia GTX570m, for an upgrade? $$$...The power adapter 180w, will be included with the upgrade GPU, price??? How compatible will be the upgrades that I made with my laptop???

Ken perhaps, my laptop can make a pit stop at GenTech for the upgrade and a test drive before coming back to me???

Please, let us know a.s.a.p. Time is the essence... :)

The only thing I did not like in the first place about this laptop is the Nvidia GTX 560m, and I have know doubt in my mind that it was the culprit that sent the laptop to the repair shop...

We have been making the same request to them. ;) In our conversations they think the 6990M is more doable with the increased TDP's of the high end NVIDIA GPU's. Hopefully it will come some day. :)

If a new version arrives with a better GPU, 570M is a much better choice than 580M or 6990M in my opinion. 570M only have 80W TDP and is almost as good as 6970M. Putting a 100W TDP GPU will only increase fan activity and produce a lot more heat. 570M is good enough to play all games on highest settings too. I see no use for the 6990M/580M other than benchmarking

This is of course my own personal opinion

A faster card than the 570M is to let the system breathe for a longer time to come, not benchmarks now.

anybody having battery draining problem here while gt780r is completely shut off and unplugged? Mine draining around 15% a day while it's completely off.. I tried everything and it still does that.. I am so mad that I might have to rma the battery.

also, how many of you are happy with steelseries keyboard? Honestly, this so called steelseries keyboard feels pretty much same as regular keyboard you see from other laptop. :(
