So... what do I do to get the Wireless driver installed? I went and got the Intel 6230 drivers, but it's not working...

Did the drivers install ok? Did you reboot after the installation?

Did you install System Control Manager (SCM) from the Utilities tab on the Drivers disk?

Have you turned it on with Fn+F8 or the WiFi touch sensitive button on the power strip?

Does it show up in the Device Manager?

I had pre-downloaded all the drivers from MSi yesterday.

The driver did install fine. Yes, I rebooted. The button is lit. It shows in Device Manager with a ! on it.

I did not install the SCM, and don't see it on the disk. I see S-Bar...

The S-Bar is what you need:

    MSI Global ? Notebook - GT780

Make sure you also install the microsoft framework first as directed in the S-Bar download

    User Failure...

I didn't see the drivers on the CD or the MSi site for the 6230, so I went to Intel. I had first DL the Bluetooth drivers like a dummy. Went back to their site, found the right ones and now it's working...

Same here, I script in LUA and write programs in C++, Used the Hom/End buttons frequently, It's really weird they placed it there but I think I'll have to get used to that.

I do various programming too and also use the Home/End key frequently. This weighed on my mind when comparing this machine to the new ASUS. I figured I could get used to it, but I do like as much consistancy as I can get between keyboards. For me, the GT780R still won out for other reasons.

    Thanks for posting about this.

It is stock , the only thing I upgraded was the wireless card to Intel 6230. Anyway the screen would not turn on this morning and I sent to be fixed at a local shop.

If it's a major problem, i'll have to sent it back to MSI/Gentech for repair under warranty. I really hope it's a minor problem as this is a great laptop.

Oh yeah... they also added NEXT to the spacebar another pipe "|" and back slash "\" key. No reason for this. It should have been a bigger spacebar.

That account was created when i was 15 and i have my first love XD , that time i'm still ignorant and immature like Rusty Bieber , the Nickname(kailoonthedog) sounds stupid so i always wanted to change it.I even beg the admin for helping me out but to no avail. That's why the old stupid name(kailoonthedog) still there.

Lol, first love sure brings the impact XD

But I still don't get it, what does your first love have to do with you being called 'the dog'?
Or were u too influenced by the rap culture, dawg? =p

Anyway, is there any way I could reduce the boot time or the least increase the start up time of my Windows?
I remember I saw my girl's ASUS N53 having the software FastBoot that actually deactivates or delays the startup of other bloatwares and softwares.

    Any ideas and suggestions? =)

I remembered watching a video about the keyboard prior to purchase that spoke of being able to remap the keyboard. It is unclear to me watching the video again that the comments are specific to the GT780R or some other future project.

Anyway, watch for yourself. The part of interest starts at about 1:16.

I use CCleaner. It's free and it gets rid of registry issues and it also features a disable-on-startup for a lot of the bloatware that may be installed initially.

Got mine delivered. GT780R is great machine overall. Did clean install, kept restore partition since i couldn't make recovery disk for some reason. The question is where can i find monitor driver - Ive noticed before Ive reinstalled W7 it had funny name, not just generic monitor like now.
Special Thanks to Ken Lee for smooth work he did for laptop to get delivered to London.

Why in the world would they decide to put an extra pipe and back slash key anywhere on the keyboard... much less next to a spacebar.

I completely agree they should have used that space for a longer spacebar!

Cool, that would be great cause I would really love the 'home' and 'end' keys to have their own keys instead of being secondary keys.. Who would even use the 'scroll lock' and 'pause' keys nowadays?

The video however, did not mention how to remap the keys =/

For some reason my CPU seems to be throttling down.
    GT780R-012US

I was running black ops on full settings and it was working great, and then i go to launch the game later and its running at about 15 fps with minimal settings.

Also my "Overclock button" likes to either work or not work. Meaning that it will work one second and the next it wont.

This is very confusing, if anybody has a solution id love to know.

Also, Ive had this computer for a whole 6 hours.

Glad you received the laptop. :)

The monitor does not need driver, windows detect the monitor by itself.

To make recovery partition you will need to have 2nd partition name "Data".

CPU throttling seem to be common issue on all Sandy Bridge platforms. I am currently working with Asus on their G53SW/G73SW/G74SX CPU throttling to 798MHz, their response to me is it's one of the safety feature on Sandy Bridge platform. I am not satisfy with their response since HP fixed it with BIOS update.

I'll report to MSI for the same issue, but can you test more games?

GT780R does not have overclock button unlike GT683R, on GT780R MSI installed nVidia overclocking tool running in the background so it's always overclocked.

So when we hit P1 and it says "Turbo ON", that's actually not doing anything? I think it's better to be permanently on anyway but just curious lol

Yes "P1" is the Turbo button to overclock the CPU & GPU and is functional.

The Nvidia overclock tool is installed on all models that support the turbo feature and works in combination with the "turbo button" when activated.

If you have not formatted your disks there is a recovery partition (F3 to recover). You should create your back-up disks also after start-up so you have a clean OEM back-up copy. There is a short cut on the desktop to create the recovery disks. (you will need 3 DVD's)

I don`t think it has to do with some "safety feature" on Sandy Bridge. 2630QM throttle down to 2.3-2.4GHz on Quad core mode and can stay there forever, whatever insane load you push it with. It is because it has to stay within a certain TDP and cannot go up to higher frequencies because it means more heat which means more TDP.
If it downclocks to 800 MHz there is some serious messed up BIOS, drivers, power supply not giving enough watt etc. Intel have done nothing wrong with the CPU or the chipset because Alienware, Sager , Sony etc all run 2630QM and higher without it clocking down to a ridicilous 800MHz.

The error must be on the OEM part, not Intel.

Btw, any new information about the DXR version? Or any date we should mark on the calender? :D

Not trying to defend MSI here, but just by doing "m18X throttling" and "m18x throttling 800", I was able to hit 280,000 plus hits. From quick glance, seems like HP and Dell put in power draw safety trip that throttles CPU and GPU and it can be over ridden with Bios. I did not go through 100+ pages of posts so I absolutely have no idea what I am talking about here though :D
Hopefully MSI releases a quick bio fix, though I have not encountered throttling issues while playing any games.

can someone post/link me to snaps for the underside of the laptop?? Just wanted to see if the air intakes are below or if it draws air through elsewhere.

I already have pulled the trigger on this, wanted to see if i need any other surface(like a cooler) or if I can just place it flat on a table.....

Well that is what I`m saying: The flaw comes from the OEMs, aka Dell, HP whatever. Or the user, that have some power management program that force the CPU at idle state frequency when they game etc, and that is around 800MHz.

All CPUs throttle, that is why you get so many hits with your googling. :)
But not down to 800MHz while gaming

    iCharger not working?
    No problem!
iCharger was not working on my GT780R with ipad2, so I downloaded Ai Charger from ASUS and installed it instead. It works beautifully now. I don't know how smart it is to use ASUS utility on a MSI machine, so I won't post any links here for the download. It is free to download and use it at your own risk.

On a side note, I wish I had waited 3 months and bought a Galaxy Tab 10.1 instead of iCrap2. My GF uses the Tab and the freedom it offers is mind blowing. You don't have to beg itunes to let me use my own movies and pictures on my own ipad2. Steve Jobs, you can keep your dirty ipad3 whenever it comes out, I will go with Galaxy Tab the next time I purchase a tab.

    Yeah,

I'm running CM7 from an SDcard on my Nook Color. It's overclocked to 1.3GHz and runs Flash. I love it!

I figured out the one thing I don't like about the laptop keyboard. There is no indication of when the CAPS LOCK KEY IS ON.
