That would be great, but on the photos, could you 'link', 'resize', or 'attach' them, so they don't fill the entire screen? Folks viewing the forum at lower resolutions will be forced to scroll like crazy, and it may become bothersome. Should you decide to 'attach' your images, take note of the maximum file size allowable.

My suggestion on a review, would be to look over other good reviews. Find a format you like, then model yours accordingly, using your own content. As an example, this guy does great reviews. I am not suggesting you need be so in-depth, just an example of format. Also, the review would be a great place to display your various photos.

Good luck, and I look forward to your review!

    :)

I am 99% sold on this laptop, but am now waiting to learn more about the 570M possibilities. The keyboard illumination issue (or non-issue) had certainly grabbed my attention. It is something I feel VERY strongly about and is one of the primary reasons that initially steered me toward the GT780R. This whole decision process has been grueling for me as I want to take a little bit from each manufacturer to make the perfect laptop "for me". I can’t stand the thought of a GPU built onto my mother board as I recently had to bake my old ASUS laptop motherboard AGAIN to keep the graphics running a little while longer. With my 52 yr old eyes, I just can’t see myself ever going without an illuminated keyboard again which is why my passion for this keyboard rose when it was first introduced. I want full size keys on my keyboard. I want a keyboard that has a “near” standard numeric keyboard layout on the side. I strongly want a non-glare display. I want a decent CPU and GPU with lots of memory for remote video and graphics programming, control simulations, and a bit of gaming. I was seeking only dual fan systems as descent cooling is a must. The information on MSI (thanks Ken and all the others) has convinced me that it can hold its own with a single fan system. I want as long a battery life as possible given all of my other demands. And lastly I want a 120 Hz 3D screen.

Every mfg from the Clevo/Sager, Alienware, ASUS, MSI, and others seem to hit the majority of these but always something must be sacrificed. As I have 3D on my desktop system and on my televisions, I figured if I had to remove one of these features, this would be it. And that is what has led me to the GT780R. The ASUS 3D (built-in GPU) was so very, very, close, but then so was Sager 3D (keyboard layout and lack of its illumination), and so was Alienware 3D (Glossy screen).

If hard pressing on the side of the keyboard or some kind of tape under the keyboard that fix the lightning, then it`s indeed some kind of flaw with the design.

@Pcgeek: I too yearn for a "perfect" laptop. But I have come to the conclusion that it does not excist. If it is not the light of the keyboard, it is flex, or glossy screen, or noisy cooling, or bad cooling, or plastic fantastic, or it weighs too much etc etc. :)
GT780R is to me a laptop with a lot of pro`s and very little to complain about. The uneven light in the keyboard is very subjectival, because for some it doesn`t bother them while to other it is a deal breaker.

@lonelywolf90: Yes MOAR pics. This thread lacks it. The more the better :)

I got my laptop a few minutes ago. Just upon initial look-over, I have to complain a little about the casing. Above the keyboard, the case is not connected together very well. It has a LOT of give to it, like it needs to be snapped in place.
I definitely understand what people meant by keyboard flex now. It's very attractive, though, and I was happy to see when I booted it that Xotic had already set it up and I had a user profile and all that fun stuff.
When I get home from work I'll be able to better see the keyboard coloration and will be able to load a few games. At that point I'll try to go over whatever else I notice.
Too bad I got Lara Croft. Meh.
    Beautiful beautiful beast...

Save your Lara Croft, if I get Mafia II I'll trade you :)

I would be annoyed that Xotic already created your user profile for you. There are steps involved in that that ONLY the end user can do (accepting EULA, creating user name and password, etc...) I've never bought a laptop where I didn't handle these steps upon first boot.

Are you talking about the part between the touch buttons and the keyboard?
If so, mine is like that too, pushing it makes a snapping sound. Guess thats the design...

I agree, if they had too boot windows up to test any upgrades, at least they should've recovered the laptop to bring the set up again.

I see everybody talking about the keyboard and the dim lights in a certain areas of the keyboard...

When the keyboard is lit with all 3 different light colors, there are a little dim in certain keys...

But when I turn one solid color I see no problem with the light on the keyboard...

I sent mine back to MSI to be fix for different reason, frozen screen 2 to 3 times a day...

Now in my opinion this keyboard is one of the best keyboard I had on a laptop, no complaints from me...

Even though MSI GT780R is back on the shop for some tweaking, I love this Laptop...

    I miss my baby...

I'm going to let the spouse work his magic on it since that's his day job and he can play around with it at work. I was annoyed by the extra software installed, but that will get taken care of with a reformat.

I've got another gripe, is anybody else disappointed with how floppy the lid/screen is??? I'm a little concerned about it. I don't mean the hinges, I mean the actual lid is very flexible, kind of like the issue Dell was having with their 15Z/mac air clone. I almost want to find an acrylic lid clip to give it a little more structure.

Can't wait to install the new Alice game :) And ooooooo I cannot WAIT for Skyrim. Just four months til release! :D

I cannot imagine ever using different lights per zone. I probably will just use the white lights to be able to see in low light. I might have it change from color to color, but I think all of this will annoy my wife :)

If you use red, like pilots like to, you will find you can see the keys nicely but it won't emit disturbing white light.

It is not the "design" but it is possible it didn't get snapped in all the way at the factory. Just run your fingers all the way around that piece to make sure it is snapped all the way in as it should be.

I believe I have a corrupt stick of RAM on my laptop. It keeps BSOD'ing all the time. Went to have a bath and when i came back it was dead.

It is possible for me to fix it by myself, but will it matter if I remove one stick? I can't afford to ship it to the US just to have a RAM stick replaced.

Sucks that this has happened, and really hope it's just the RAM, otherwise I can't think of anything else.

    Help anyone?

Wait, let me get this strait...... you ordered the Pro-Star B3 model, and added a secondary HDD to your config, or did they forget to strip the secondary HDD from the GT780R? In other words, did you pay for the extra drive, or did you get an extra drive for FREE? If the later in the case, well I'd say that worked out nicely.

    :)

It is still cheaper to get the "derivative" version with two hard drives, but without the 16GB memory, than to get the standard SKU.

Correct Dgstone18? Is that what you did?

Yes. Taking June for example, for 17.3" laptops only, the MSI GT780R was 1st with the ASUS G74SX-A1 2nd and the Sager NP8170 3rd.

Congratz on your new notebook, and WELCOME To The Party!

Are you referring to the touch button control bar, above the keyboard? If so, yes, it may not be securely snapped into place. This control bar can be lifted, to gain access to your WiFi card, and to allow removal of the keyboard ( see here). Simply apply light pressure around the outer edges of this control bar, and it should snap securely into place.

    I hope this helps.........

    NICE, Thanks Donald!

I wonder if it would be possible to enlighten us on this keyboard issue. Based on your experience and overall sales data of the GT780R, could you offer an approximate percertage of complaints you are seeing...... and a percentage of RMA's as related to this issue? I assume these figures are low..... yes/no? Or is this something you are not able to discuss?

    Thanks!

Ok guys, My touchpad was working fine when suddenly the mouse started jumping yesterday, saw a post here before that links to the MSI forums, updated the driver and installed the patch.
Got fixed but now the mouse randomly stops, have to remove my finger and put back on so I can regain control. Any ideas?

I am one angry lady right now. When the spouse got home, he excitedly looked over my new laptop and quickly noticed the loose piece above the keyboard. Like me, he figured that's where they upgraded the wireless. He tapped on it in a few places all around the edges to pop it into place and the display went DEAD. He pulled the little bezel piece off and saw that the ribbon cable connecting power button to the motherboard was split and the wire was broken. He tweaked it a little bit and the display flickered on and off (the whole thing went dead initially and would not reboot until this tweaking). He pulled the piece of ribbon cable out and we inspected it - where the wiring is broken, it also looks singed/burned and discolored. The whole section of wire looked like it was bad, it was bulging out on the other half that was not physically broken in half yet. I have pictures. MSI and Xotic were both "after hours" when we called and haven't gotten any responses yet. Of COURSE this happens at the end of a work week!!!!

I'm trying to not be upset about it, but when you wait two weeks for a laptop that you pay $1700 for, you just expect things to be right. I don't get how that problem was not noticible when they upgraded the laptop to the BNK.

I was really loving this thing, too. Was just starting moving my files over and was about to install Alice. :(

He can repair it, thankfully, but I don't want to make any changes before hearing from MSI or Xotic. I honestly don't feel it's my/our responsibility to repair a laptop that isn't even a day out of the box or has an hour of usage. That's mostly what I'm upset about...especially since so many other people seem to love theirs! Here's hoping it's the ONLY potentially big issue.

WOW, sorry to hear of this. It's always a bummer to experience these things, expecially to have such a let-down when something is so highly anticipated.

Anyhow, normally Justin or one of his folks are in the forum. Try giving one of them a PM, and you may get some advice this evening. I am sure Xotic will do everything possible, to insure your satisfaction. I hope this issue is resolved for you very shortly. Please keep us up to date on your progress.

Thats correct Paladin. Haha I guess my post was pretty confusing, I was just joking about the fact that I technically didnt really get an "extra HDD" because it should come with both stock anyways. Also I have at least 10 emails between pro-star and I so far and all of them have been quick responses and very professional.

    Hello all,
Last week I brought you all the Pro-star model and this week we have a new model with an official sku. Newegg just posted the MSI GT780R-057US. It comes with blue ray and 2x750g. I am not advocating for newegg and I suggest anyone who buys this lappy buys it from one of our friendly ressellers who have been super helpfull. Here's the link:

    Nice find!

With all I am seeing in the configurations of official SKU's, I have a hunch the GT780DXR is gonna be the Cadillac of the fleet...... pricey, with little to no downgrade options. To have that GTX 570M, we gonna have to PAY to PLAY!

    :)

    Thanks,
I just read more on it and its a Blue ray burner. If you configure the 780-12 with the 2x750s and the bray burner it comes out $100 more than the Newegg price. So it looks like a nice package from MSI.

Ok... so I opened the box, set it up and played around a bit with it... registered, etc.

First impressions. Overall great quality. Larger than my current machine despite the reduce resolution. Keyboard is fine in terms of flex and typing, etc... except. I think it was a fail to move that windows key. I know they did it for gamers, but it moves the spacebar too far over. However, I think I will get used to it as I have with all the other quirky laptop keyboards I've used.

As a programmer I use HOME and END a lot and to find them relegated to secondary positions on the PgUP/PgDN keys is another odd choice. Especially when Scroll Lock and Pause/Break get their own keys (does anyone use these anymore???) Does any know of a keyboard remapper program? That would help a lot.

In the middle of installing Windows 7 Ultimate now. Win 7 is actually installed, I'm trying to get the base system up so I can begin installing my tools and games.

    More to come...

THIS!!! MSI!!! Y U GIVE PREFERENCE TO SCROLL KEY????

I kinda have seen almost all other brands have a dedicated home/end key. Makes no sense on MSI's part to have either the pause or scroll keys....

Since you're a programmer why don't you program it yourself XD
