    yes and yes, hehe j/k

nothing really. with fresh windows, everything worked fine so there's not particular order or urgency for the drivers. of course you want them all in.

    Oh yeah,

this is very important. Install S-Bar and Keyboard LED last, AFTER windows updates ALL its stuff. cause i think that was the part that messed me up. S-Bar and KeyLED both require .Net 4.0 or something like. don't go and install .net 4.0 right away. instead wait for windows update to get it for you. After installing all your drivers it'll pop up eventually on windows update.

I installed it manually from the microsoft web site and that's why i opted to just re-re-install windows. You might or might not have the same issue but i hope whatever i said helps.

[UPDATE] i remembered more stuff from my head-- i think i manually installed .net 4 before windows 7 updated itself to SP1 since my disk is pre-SP1. i think that's what caused the problem (nvidia freezing during installation and windows freezing 30sec after login.)

thanks for that. now my only prob. is finding a windows 7 disc. darn, i think i lost mine. And microsoft doesn't allow downloads from their site w/o buying. i already have my key though.

Been following this thread all the way from the Asus gaming forums where Striker (good job man) popped up and started this thread, and I'm amazed by Ken's helping.

Just wondering how any outside USA manage to order this beast? I'm living in Israel and so far only found 1 retailer called 'RM Electronic' and from what I understood you can only pay in hard cash and the price (after conversion) is 2,236.12 USD, which wouldn't be that bad actually if it was a known computer store selling it...

Very envious of people residing in the USA, I would have already ordered it if so!

    Does GenTech ship overseas?

Yeah, post #341...... but also consider creating your MSI recovery disc prior to doing a fresh WIN 7 install. This way you will always have the ability to bring the notebook back to it's factory state, should the need arise.

Ya never know when they can come in handy. A neat feature of those disc is, not only can you recover from disc, but they also provide an option to rebuild the recovery partition.

Welp, 10 days after getting the laptop, It blue screen'd while browsing a website and refuses to turn on now. The power button and keyboard light up for a second before shutting off again, and this repeats on an endless cycle. guess its RMA time :(

Before you RMA it, try taking the battery out, unplug it, and then hold the power button down for at least 30 seconds...1 minute would be better. Then plug it back in and see if it will boot.

i had issue with my keyboard, the number "1" misses sometimes. i had to press it really hard for it to get my input. i however fixed it by reseating it. i don't however recommend doing it because the plastic underneath looks like its gonna break easily.

Geez, it looks like someone is thinking a bit too much of himself and his opinions. :)

1600x900 is a better resolution in my opinion and suits much better to my needs and applications. On a 17inch laptop 1920x1080 is in my opinion way too much of resolution to use Windows comfortably, since you can't scale everything in the same manner. So LOL 1080p on a screen too small. I think it's mostly there because of marketing reasons and 1080p movies (and because of the demand the quality of those screens is better that 1600x900 screens, which is a real shame).

And the subwoofer... I didn't ask how it compares to a real subwoofer, and since I own a BK subwoofer that goes below 20Hz, cleanly, I know what I'm talking about. I asked about this notebooks sub, because I don't want a computer that's speakers can't produce low and tight bass in a manner that it could. There are many examples of this.

And it seems you don't understand this clearly, because what good does the sample video do for me, when there's no way to know what is being listened to and what is used to record it? :D I've seen that video, and its usefulness to me is about zero.

And for the record, there is a 1600x900 version coming out of this computer. I don't know if they're gonna sell is in the States, but I don't live there, so it doesn't matter to me.

    Ok

Look, it sounds like the GT780R is not for you. Why don't you get a 17" notebook with the resolution you want for half the price? And with the difference get a nice set of headphones and speakers for all the beautiful sound that you want. Because notebook sound always sucks even if this new MSI technology is much better than what is on the market today.

Yeah I agree, on my friend's 15 inch the 1080p does make things hard to see, but I have had no problems with the resolution on my 17 inch screen.

Hmmmmm...... looks like someone has a bone to pick, LOL! Let's take a look at what you posted, POST #395, which may offer better understanding to 'why' I replied as I did!

I questioned the resolution, because the GT780R is not natively 1600 X 900, but you can certainly set it to a resolution more preferable to your liking.

Regarding the subwoofer, admittedly I replied with sarcasm, amused with your expectations of a notebook's subwoofer.

Anyhow, I agree with MrSeaBass...... sounds like the GT780R is probably not right for you. Good luck with those notebook subwoofers!

    AGREED!

But admittedly I squint a bit with 1080P, even on a 17"...... BUT, I'm an O'l Fart, and I just put on my reading glasses! WHA-LA..... everything is so big & purdy then!

Everyone wants to find their perfect laptop, before I found the gt780 I was looking at the gt683 but decided against it because it did not have a backlit keyboard admitedly a not so important feature. If he wants a laptop with an amazing subwoofer thats his choice :D

BTW guys, those reading glasses (2.0 mag or greater) DO make everything so big & purdy, and puts those enemies 'in your face'! Give em' a try! I'm gonna buy another cheap pair, just for my GT780R party gear!

has anyone tried bringing their C: below 200gb? disk management tool won't allow me to do this.
is it recommended to wipe recovery partition of MSI (~9gb) and MS (100mb)? i'm asking because i want to make 2 extra partition aside from OS partition.

Do not wipe the MSI recovery partition without making the backup dvd's first. Once you do that then you can remove it if you would like. As for the MS 100mb partitions, that is a part of windows, do not remove it.

Either way you probably need to do a clean install of windows to make the c drive smaller. It probably is not letting you do it because of having the drives set up in raid.

This does have the best sound in a notebook available on the market today. So either that will have to be good enough or you'll have to use headphones.

What? :D Natively it is 1600x900, if you buy it with a 1600x900 screen. You aren't making much sense, you know. :)

You're so arregant, that it's gonna bite you some day. :) Btw, you still don't understand what I expected from a notebooks sub and what I don't. I understand perfectly how a subwoofer works and what it's limitations are when considering the volume of the subwoofers body. So it's kind of amusing for you to give me 'advice' on this matter. :)

Hello, long time lurker first time poster. I have been looking at this laptop for a loooooong time and am gonna pull the trigger soon. I want to thank -=$tR|k3r=- for starting this thread and all the reps and owners for giving great information on this lappy. I will be going to grad school in the fall and this laptop will be everything from entertainment center to workstation. That being said, I have seen Ken do his "number" on the keyboard but would like to hear from owners how much the keyboard flexes under normal typing. I am not saying that flex will alter my decision but I would rather know if it bounces like a trampoline before finding out when I get it home.
Also if any owners have the Oakley kitchen sink pack, will this laptop fit in the bag's laptop sleeve? I know it will not fit from the side but would like to know if it would fit from the main compartment. I have heard that a G73 can be shoehorned in but it is extremely tight, I was thinking that maybe the GT780 could fit 'cause it isn't as wide. Thanks for all the info...Keep it comming!!!

What I wrote was pure facts. What arrogant about that? He's been reading my posts and shooting jokes, even though I've made clear that he's got it wrong. If I wanted to know that can the subwoofer do 100Hz, it should be clear to anyone (who knows even a little bit about subs), that this has nothing to do with real subwoofers. But he wants to joke around, which is ok for me, but when he started to insult me personally, I found that arrogant. Don't you?

I'm in the same boat as you heading to school in the fall as well.
Under normal typing on my laptop their is no flex that I notice, except down by the arrow keys, and even then its not that bad.

    FYP :p

On a serious note, DynAudio is probably the best you can get in a laptop. I don`t think that there exist any OEMs that focus on the subwoofer more than the speakers. Which again means that you won`t get any better subwoofer than what is in GT780R :)

    GEE WIZ!

Look, a fellow Owner here, already ran the sound test you ask for, with very positive results. ( Post# 394)

I am unaware that I have personally insulted you..... and I'll apologize for good measure here, but I read several cases wherein you attempt to insult me.

'Water Off A Duck's Back', my friend! What is the point in all this? Is it that you can't let it go, unless I am found in error? Ok, I'm in error! Better now? Are you satisfied with the results of the test you requested, or not? Are you buying a GT780R, or would you rather just stir up a hornets nest?

You're probably right. Although the audio part didn't get ten points in the Notebookcheck review, but they're often quite harsh in their reviews. But I'll try to get my hands on the machine when it arrives here in Europe this summer, and try it out. The reviews never tell the whole truth, and first hand knowledge is always the best knowledge on usability.

Sure, it helps when someone admits they are wrong. :) And I apologize too, even though I didn't start this silly nonsense...It's just weird when someone makes jokes of you, when they are wrong about what you have said. And keep going on, even when clearly corrected.

And the test result helped of course, I never said the didn't.

They updated it with a newer version at their hands, but they didn't edit the sound part of the review, so no knowledge if the pre production had any problems with sound that are now corrected. But doesn't matter too much, since it got pretty good reviews anyway.

Erm... hey guys. I'm so glad everything's peaceful over here.

So far I've been reinstalling all my games back on through steam.
Other than GTA IV which I mentioned. CitiesXL, TeamFortress 2, Bioshock, and Fallout 3 are running at 60+ fps so I am very happy. I know these titles aren't exactly "brand spankin' new" but it's all I got.

Right now bang/$ is more important for me and so far there are many more bangs for bucks.

I'll be trying Far Cry 2 in a few after it downloads and will let you guys know more in detail in regards to fps/performance.

Again, I only give fps for the maximum possible settings including AA and AF.

This is a gaming laptop, let's talk more games and about helping each resolve any issues that we might have with the beast in question.

It would be nice if you record some footage and put it on Youtube.
    I'd appreciate that. :D

MSI GT780R-012US has the best speakers and sub woofer in the market right now...Sound is very clear on movies, games and listening to music...

I did not connect the Bose speakers yet, because I have been enjoying the audio on the laptop without it...

Had a lot of laptops in the past, the sound on this monster is awesome...

Must agree with you reading with a 1080p screen is not easy...lol
